Flighty Faerie vs. Dashing Dominic!
Date of Scene: 23 December 2014
Location: Njorun Station - Ring of Philosophy
Synopsis: Dominic Masoch and Na`Sabal-Une Fang meet for a spar in the Ring of Philosophy.
Cast of Characters: 367, 655

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Welcome to the Ring of Philosophy! Where training for Union members frequently took place, both elite and non-elites made use of this place. And there was an elite waiting in it right now, or at least, at the entrance to it. Nasa was sitting on a small bench outside of the building, absently swinging her legs with her elbows on her knees, and chin resting in her hands.

She had totally not been waiting there all day, really! And ... sitting on her lap was a pair of kukri, some sort of liquid dampening the sheathes that they were in, thoguh it would be hard to tell exactly what it was. If Dominic had glanced at Nasa's file, though, he could probably assume it was some sort of venom or poison. She really DID plan on going all out!

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
Dominic is here. Between the classes this morning and the club meeting he left, he's here and carrying a book bag over one shoulder. At his hip is the long, slender blade of his rapier. He's briskly walking towards the area.

Na`Sabal is not that hard to spot, what with her being waited right where she said she wouldbe. He raises a gloved hand to her, "Hail! And apologies for the delays. My classes for the morning ran into my club activities and I had to give a presentation on an Extraversal world. I am here now, though."

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Dominic's arrival gets an almost immediate hop up from Nasa, she was pretty easy to spot anyway, what with the whole 'wings and black skin' thing. The twin sheathes were almost reflexively popped back into place where they belonged, and Nasa flashed a wide grin towards Dominic, flashing a mouthful of sharp teeth that ...somehow weren't shown in a threatening manner. "Vendui! Is okay~. Understands, has to hunt a lot and that does to keep Nasa busy often too." Nasa says, giving a quick little bob of her head.

Nasa lifts her hand towards Dominic's, moving to give him a hi-five. She wasn't quite used to that 'waving' thing yet. "This should to being fun, from your weapon, we are both to being speed types!" She says with a happy little giggle, turning to make her way into the building somewhat unceremoniously. "Does have any rules wants to impose?" Nasa asks curiously.

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
"Yes. Please refrain from biting me," Dominic says pretty seriously. It seems her comment yesterday about using biting to get through armor is one that stuck with him, "Otherwise, I am unclear as to the nature of this duel. Since you were the one to issue the challenge, you may set up any other stipulations you wish." He notes.

When their hands collide in a high-five, he merely gives her a confused look. It was not the greeting he was expecting, but he does not particularly feel a need to correct it either, "Otherwise, I request that you don't use whatever ability you said might cause actual damage despite the dampening nature of this land. These are my only requests which I wish to personally impose."

Being a Fencer, Dominic's requests are basic and mostly centered around safety and restriction erring towards caution. Well, and not wanting to be bitten by an Extraversal. Galianda's White Mages and Alchemists had yet to study the new diseases.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
"No biting? ... That's no fun! Though does understand why would say that. Luckily is damage dampeners, siyo~." Nasa says, carefully stepping into one of the arena prep areas. "Mmm... does want for you to not hold back, really, is only thing. System will to keep Nasa safe, so to not worry about her~." She says, humming cheerfully.

"A-ah, yeah. Does naut intend to drain your life energy, would to being bad if somehow got around it. Is unlikely could, but ... is better safe then sorry, yes." Nasa says with a small nod and smile. The look of confusion had been noted, but Nasa just figured it was a surfacer thing, really. Like those hi-five things... why he wanted one then, she just had no idea, but she wasn't going to be all mean and leave him hanging!

"So, nau biting, nau Hand of Transference to deal damage. Understands!" Once Nasa was inside of the training zone, Nasa hums a moment, before selecting a simple battleground, small forest with cover. She unsheathes her twin Kukri afterwards, giving them a twirl to test their balance didn't need to be adjusted, before letting her arms hang at her side loosely, her Kukri held in a relatively relaxed position. "Will to let you have the first strike, since did challenge you to the fight. Is ready when you are~."

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
"I will not be holding back to any substantial level," Dominic assures her, setting down his book bag when the battleground begins to form. It's a mostly true statement, since while he almost never dips into Sword Saint abilities (Because he's totally not one), he is almost singularly specialized in the Fencing area of his abilities for now. So him not using the Sword saint abilities that he totally does not have is irrelevant to the fight.

With a smooth and practiced motion, the young man draws the long, slender, mithril blade of his rapier from its sheath. He takes a slow breath and then adjusts his stance, his left arm folding behind his back. His feet slide to show himself profile as he holds the rapier up in a classical stance, "Very well, I shall accept first strike."

The blonde man takes a few moments to figure out how he wants to approach this. Eventually settling on a course of attack, he steps in rapidly and thrusts his rapier in a rapid series of jabs and thrusts.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Good, he wasn't going to hold back~. That meant that Nasa didn't have to either. She shifts slightly in place as he draws his blade, noting the ... mythril! Nasa's eyes flicked over it admiringly as she began to grin widely. "Oooh, Mythril! Is excellent weapon, can already tell~." And she'd have to be very careful. She figured he'd be fast, but from her assumption that mythril on his world worked like mythril on her world, she believed that he'd be faster than most other rapier wielders.

So, as he figured out how to approach, Nasa shifted up to a defensive stance, rather than the relaxed one. Her face lost most emotion and her lips grew to a flat line, as glowing red eyes refused to break contact with Dominic's. The Drowess was watching his every move. Her wings carefully flattened, pressing against each other behind her to create a thin line.

As Dominic thrusted, Nasa moved with as little movement as she could to dodge the jabs and thrusts, her blades moving only once to deflect a strike that she couldn't dodge. Still, her small movements had yielded results for Dominic, thin cuts here and there where her movements hadn't been quite enough, and her mage armor hadn't been enough to stop a strike to her side, leaving a nice little puncture wound.

"Ah, is definitely fast~." Nasa grins as she moved in towards Dominic quickly, attempting to slip past his rapier and quickly bring the blade in her right arm to his side. Immediately following this, Nasa brought her other blade up to strike his blade hand with the hilt. She opened her mouth briefly, as if about to attempt to finish it with a bite... but she pauses, remembering the rules she'd agreed to, her mouth closing quickly after that... and likely giving Dominic a nice opening!

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
His probing strikes, while not doing more than the faintest scratches of damage, do manage to teach him about her defensive capabilities. She possesses a Super-Hume level of speed or reflexes, he can determine, from the swift movements and subtle motions of her parries and dodges.

His demeanor and posture are different now that the fight has started. The teenage boy has faded away and been replaced by a much more serious and professional duelist. It's not hard to tell why Kyra, Landon or Soan give him praise for his skill, nor why Alexander Academy heralds him as one of their best Fencers and constantly has him at tournaments.

But this is not a tournament fencing match. And Na`sabal is able to slide in past the slender strikes of his rapier. He whips his body in a dodging motion, only to find that her blade scrapes across his side painfully. It slices through cloak, vest, and tunic to draw a gash right across his side and stain his vest and shirt with blood.

He winces from the slicing motion and can spot when she tries to strike his hand. He twists the wrist and, when she pauses to stop herself from biting, attempts to use the handguard on his rapier like a set of brass knuckles as he clocks her cleanly across the jaw before stepping back to give himself some room.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
CLONK! Yup, that definitely got her. Right in the face. And oh goodness it was uncomfortable! She took a step back as she looks up at Dominic, her face returning to that neutral gaze rather quickly, though she did lift her hand to rub at her jaw a few moments. She had a strong jaw, but that didn't stop it from smarting. "Ah, is definitely a human, does not think could manage hit like that without enhancements, siyo~." Nasa says with a quick nod.

Speaking of enhancements, Nasa shifted her blades slightly, pressing a small button on both of her blades. Slowly, leaking out of several small holes in the blade, some sort of liquid begins to slide out of it. For the sparr, it wasn't real poison, just a concoction of salt and lemon juice which would likely make it sting... but it would still be unpleasant. "Fast, and strong. Mmhmm, does like you."

Nasa spread her wings in a heavy flap that took her up into the air briefly, though she stayed low to the ground, her wings bringing her quickly towards Dominic once more, and then... her wings flattened suddenly, the Drowess going into a spin that brought her blades towards Dominic in a total of five strikes, aimed roughly for his midsection, but due to the 'tornado spin' that she had entered, they were somewhat wild... even if likely hard to defend against. On top of that, there was suddenly lemon juice and salt flying all over the place, and that was likely unpleasant if it got in anything.

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
"I am a Hume, yes. Ramuhan." Dominic says simply in regards to her remark about his race. He is unfamiliar with the race of the girl in front of him, though she had said it several times on radio: Drow, Pit Faerie, Faetouched. These were terms Galianda simply did not have, and so he simply was trying to compensate where he could and learn as he went.

"You are an admirable opponent and of notable prowess," He comments simply. The addition of a strange substance to her blades does not go unnoticed. He has to keep caution and defense where he can, and it's nearly impossible to parry a spinning opponent with a rapier, meaning that her advance puts him into a steady retreat, two of her five strikes connecting cleanly. One rakes across his left arm, which was meant to block his torso. The other draws a clean line across his midsection, horizontally, in the spot right between his ribs and his stomach. The salt and the lemon juice cause him to wince in pain as it stings and burns his open wounds, staggering him a little.

>Fencing
    >Spellblade
        >Maim Blade

But his counterattack is swift, and he has tricks of his own. She may have two blades and a poison, but he has his Fencer maneuvers. He steps in towards her swiftly, his blade darting out. The yellow that runs through his blue eyes glows a bit and his blade seems to trail a red magical energy as he strikes several times. He's aiming at her shoulder and elbow on her left arm, trying to puncture it several times and inject condensed mana particles into her system to hinder the use of that armor. It's attempting to inflict the Disable status effect.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
"Hume? Is a different way to put it from usual. Ramuhan..." Nasa didn't really know what a 'Ramuhan' is, she'd not really read his file, just gone off of what others said. That he was strong and very capable. She'd visited the academy though. A place where strong people gathered. She liked it, though at the same time it scared her a little -- not that she'd admit it. That much power in one place made someone who once thought the world belong to her, feel slightly insignificant.

"Flattery will to getting you everywhere~." Nasa says playfully in response to him, though her face seemed to return to that neutral state between words. Still, she had struck him several times now, so she felt particularly good about herself, fighting more or less on the same level as one of the best people from Alexander Academy!

As Dominic began to use his ability though, Nasa became suddenly keenly aware of the incoming magic. "...Ah... is doing that..." Nasa murmurs, her left hand sparking with a sickly black-red energy that spread along her arm as the blade came stabbing in. The strikes to her shoulder hit armor, in fact one of the thicker parts of the drowess' armor. However, her elbow was not well armored, her armor having a complete gap there on the left arm to allow her freedom of movement. The strikes struck -- but the mana would rapidly be sapped away by the Hand of Transference, whatever was left was rejected by Nasa's magical resistance. "Thank you for the snack~." Nasa says cheerfully, the Hand of Transference's glow fading quickly as Nasa shifted stances.

Her right blade glowed with the energy just 'given' to her, and the Drowess rapidly brought her blade in a thrusting motion towards Dominic's center. Just before it connected, a burst of magical energy would be unleashed, a simple non-elemental slash sent out from the tip of the Kukri's blade. As Nasa finished this stance, she shifted to protect her now-injured left arm with her right arm, buckler held up at the ready along with her blade. "Does naut mind sharing, hopes did like~."

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
"It is what it is called on my planet," Dominic says in a simple tone. He steps back and away in the aftermath of his attack. She has a strange cadence to her speech, but is understandable enough, "Not flattery, simple fact."

Of course, his own magical ability gets turned on him like that. He landed a hit, at least, from his blade. But the magical effect of it was removed by her own ability and then converted into raw Magical Energy, which she was then using to output damage onto him offensively.

Fencer
    >Manastrike

Since Fencers, particularly ones who go into law enforcement or bounty hunting, often find themselves going up against mages and other heavy-casting opponents. To counter this, Manastriking was invented. It's a simple maneuver: You invert your personal magical particles to serve as a Rasp effect and then channel it into your blade. It damages the cohesiveness of magical abilities and can destabilize the magical pools of those it hits.

So when she comes in towards him with that Kukri, he's already moving his MP around and activating it. As the powerful blast comes in, he thrusts his sword right through it, the anti-magic serving to diminish the magical blast.

It still hits him, connecting cleanly with him and seeming to do a good, solid hit. His coat and shirt are scorched and he has some burn marks on his face from where it landed. But he has enough force to keep pushing, trying to pierce the center of her chest with a mix of sword and anti-magic.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Mostly, Nasa was just horrible with grammar and grasping certain concepts with the surfacer language. Not out of lack of intelligence, but there was something about english that didn't click with her mind. It was totally from Fae fucking with her, really. "Your world is to being interesting~." Nasa says with a flashed grin.

And then... Dominic's energy that was turned against him was summarily turned against her in an anti-magic and returned-energy strike. This was definitely a strange state to be in, and the anti-magic blade-tip had the upside of penetrating the mage armor that surrounded Nasa easily, though striking the center of her chest was not necessarily the easiest thing in the world, as there was armor there. Still, the strike hit -- and even penetrated the armor, leaving a nice hole in it, and the tip stabbed into her chest, though luckily stopped at the bone. Nasa lifts her hand to take hold of the blade after that, taking hold of it as she gives a rather wide grin, her eyes flashing a bright, glowing red. She pulled out the blade quickly, and then... faerie dust suddenly burst from her body, Nasa seeming to disappear briefly -- until there was a flicker. Ten of her seemed to flicker back into existence around Dominic. Illusions, save for one. There were small shows that they were illusions, some of the sounds were slightly off on the illusions, and only the real one actually had physical substance.

Not that he would have that much of a chance to examine that, as there was a sudden 'barrage'. Strike after strike, but only a tenth of them were real, and they were doing it in small groups. A total of four strikes, two to each of Dominic's arms, before finally the illusions faded. Nasa was left standing behind Dominic, her right arm towards him to keep her buckler up at the ready.

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
Soan had warned Dominic of illusions as a possibility. Dominic had never fought one before, illusions being the purview of Mages and Mimics. Two things he almost never fought.

But his senses are sharp and his skill is keen. He moves carefully, stepping out of the way of as many sword strikes as he can during the onslaught from the illusions. Being right-handed, he weaves his body and attempts to take as many strikes to the left arm as he can. They're painful and some of them cut to the bone, but he comes out of it with three strikes to his left arm, having shredded through his cloak and shirt to stain the arm and cloak red, and one cut across his right sword arm.

His retaliation is swift and immediate. He doesn't pause to accept the pain, pushing through it as he immediately whips around and counters with an attack in full force.

Piercing Blow, the Fencer maneuver, has two functions. It's meant to strike foes hiding behind bigger pieces of cover by going through solid objects (OOC: In-game, it hits both the space in front of you, and the space behind that). This meant it was also great for going through shields.

Dominic thrusts towards the buckler with a deft move. And as soon as the tip of the rapier touches the buckler, a powerful projection of mana attempts to blast through and behind it, wanting to catch Na`Sabal off guard with the maneuver.

He pants slightly in the aftermath, though.

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Dominic's response was... good. Nasa was impressed, though she would probably refuse to say it if asked. Swift, immediate response, even after she had moved multiple times to try and make sure he would be confused as to where she was. He had good senses. For a human, at any rate.

Regardless, there was a rapier being thrust towards her. Nasa shifts her shield up quickly, moving to block the blow and taking the bait. She trusted her armor and shield to protect her, especially when strikes aimed for where her armor was. The blade strikes into her shield, which does about what it's supposed to do. That burst of magic, though... that hurt. It hit a largely armored part of her person, and the mage armor helped reduce the damage, but it still was something she hadn't quite been ready for, so her magical resistance wasn't ~quite~ focused in time to resist it.

Nasa shifted quickly, tilting her blade down as she focused her energies. However, a beeping caused pause. "...Ah." She looks up at the 'health bar' that was tracking how much she would have endured in a normal fight. She wasn't 'unconscious', but her indicator was flashing red. "...Does look like is time to end the fight." Nasa says with a little wrinkle of her nose. Aw, she wanted to fight more. Siiiigh. "Does look like maybe you did win~."

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
As Na`Sabal draws the fight to a close, Dominic nods his head and smiles at her. He flicks his blade a few times and then sheaths it in a practiced fashion. Probably how Fencers in his world were trained to end their fights. A show of disarming, after all.

"You were an excellent opponent. Had you inflicted much more injury upon me, I would have succumbed to them almost certainly," He says, looking at his arm as the simulated wounds begin to vanish with their fight at a conclusion, "I apologize for asking you not to bite, it seemed to cause you some hinderance in your style which gave me an unfair advantage," He admits to her, frowning faintly.

"Regardless, I would rank you among the most invigorating opponents I have faced. You are quite skilled, Lady Fang."

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
Nasa carefully took a small cloth and wiped off her blades, followed by sliding the kukri into their sheathes and buttoning the little buttons that kept the Kukri in place. "Is good to know~. Oh, uhm. To naut worry about the 'poison'. Was just mixture of lemon juice and salt, did not to want to risk actually poisoning you. Thinks this place would stop that, but is still not something does want to risk." Nasa says, giving a quirky little smile towards Dominic. She takes a slow exhale as the wounds and damage to her armor faded. "Was surprised when you did to turn magical power that did to turn on you right back on Nasa, and... was that to being anti-magic? Did pierce right through the Mage Armor that is to being part of Nasa's armor's enchantment." Nasa says, tilting her head curiously.

"Ah! Is okay~. Does usually only bite when does to start enjoying battles little too much, was trying not to go all feral and crazy on you. Does to not make good impression, yes." Nasa says, flashing a wide grin towards Dominic. The compliment gets a bobbing bow of Nasa's head, her eyes half-closing comfortably as she did. "Siyo~. Was very fun fight~. You are definitely to deserving the reputation that you do to have at your school."

Nasa seems to pause, musing on things for a few moments. Eventually she spoke up, "Please to call Nasa, Nasa... or Lady Nasa if must, Lady Fang does to make Nasa think of her mother." And from the look on her face, memories of her mother weren't particularly pleasant one. And not in the 'I lost my mother' kind of way, so much as a subtle hatred that showed briefly on her face.

Dominic Masoch (655) has posed:
"Yes. Fencers tend to work towards Law Enforcement and Bounty Hunting. Because of the magical nature of our world, an anti-magic technique is essential when facing opponents that use such abilities." He explains to her the origin of his own ability, "You used a very interesting ability yourself when you countered my disabling effect. You should have lost use of that arm, but you did not."

"Lady Nasa, then." He says, nodding his head to her. He can understand not wishing to be associated with the acts of parents. Carefully, he asks, "What does siyo mean? You've said it several times, but it is a not a word of my world. I hope it is not offensive to ask its meaning."

Na`Sabal-Une Fang (367) has posed:
The 'siyo' bits were totally habits on the player's part, but they translate roughly to 'yes' with multiversal translation. Not that Nasa minded explaining that in actuality. "Ah! Siyo does to mean 'yes' in the Drow tongue." Nasa says with a quick little nod. She pauses at the comment of her counter to the disabling effect. "Ah, actually cheated a little. Did use Hand of Transference to absorb the mana out of your ability and to power Nasa's next ability, yes. Also does to have magical resistance. Is why did to stop that effect, but did to not stop the strike." Nasa says, rubbing at her elbow a bit. "You are fast, for hume." Nasa says with a nod.

"Should to calling you Lord Dominic? Also... ooh. Yes, can to understand need for that. Nasa supposes does kind of have similar effect with her Hand of Transference to being able to absorb spells... rarely does to absorb all of one, but usually does to weaken it a lot." The pit faerie says, fluttering her wings as she thought on things. "That last ability was to being neat. Did use magical energy to get past shield. Was easy one to examine. Simple concept, but to being very good one. Did to not realize fast enough to stop with magic resistance... is glad for armor or would to have probably been knocked out~." Nasa says, tapping her chest where the magic struck. "Wonders if could mimic that... mmmh... maybe with fire magic..." She murmurs, seeming to fall into deep though. "A-ah! Apologizes. Appreciates you for sparring match! Was very fun! Imagines you do to have more classes to get to." Nasa says, giving a quick bow, giving off a slightly socially awkward feel, to be honest. Sure, she chattered away all day but she had NO idea how to actually act socially. Hence the hi-five earlier. "To having fun paths~."
