What A Sister Must Know ft Eleanor and Inga
Date of Scene: 02 February 2015
Location: Estate Lamb
Synopsis: Eleanor and Inga start the Little Sister's plasmid training with a lesson on ethics in magic use
Cast of Characters: 40, Inga

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
It wis a crisp cool day in the outer branches of Njorun, and there are a set of attentive, or mostly attentive young ladies standing outside in the back yard of the Lamb Estate. All six of the Sisters are out here, waiting for the start of their lessons in Being a Witch with the Best Witch Ever Ever.

Eleanor is sitting on the bench to the picnic table, sipping on a hot tea from the massive carafe she's got waiting for the girls.
Hank is sorta just sitting and watching.

Inga has posed:
Inga is prepared to teach--at least she hopes she is. She's never really taught children her arts before, and while she expected someday she would, she did not think she would teach six at once, of varying age. This would certainly be a challenge.

Inga is dressed in her viking age clothing today, taking comfort from the familiar. She's fully outfitted, various talismans hanging from her belt or worn around her neck or wrists. There's the iron mjolnir pendant, a group of finger bones, the skulls of ravens, a strand of amber beads, a pouch containing her runes...

Inga turns to the girls, holding a cup of steaming tea herself. "Where would you like me to begin, Eleanor. Shall I start with lore? Shall we learn the runes or the method of proper sacrifice? The manner of how to speak with the spirits of the dead?" she asks. For such a range of ages, she's unsure where to begin.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor taps her lips a little bit, and looks over at the girls, who look back with varying levels of exictment and expectation. "I would say... let's start off simple and talk about the nature of magic and how and why we should be using our powers. Ethics, from a person who isn't Big Sister would likely be a good lesson."

The excitment from the girls on this topic is universally neutral or lower. Cassie in particular, the oldest, whines. "I thought she was going to teach us 'bout thowin' fireballs."
Eleanor sighs. "I'm sure we can have Riva teach that."

Inga has posed:
Inga laughs softly as their excitement deflates. "No, I think we should save fireballs for another lesson--I am likely not even the best person to teach you that, as it is still new to me. But I can teach you many things that will serve you well. More subtle arts perhaps, but powerful and clever," she replies.

A deep breath in. Ethics? Is Eleanor sure of this? "The ethics of using magic. A tricky subject. I was taught to use my magic to serve the gods and the community in which I lived. Even if you do not intend to serve the gods, magic should be used to help the community...for within the community is frith. We are all connected to each other, yes? Our fates are intertwined. The actions of others influence our own actions, and our deeds influence the choices others will make. So, when you use magic, you must consider the wider implications of what you choose to influence. We cannot know every outcome, even if you are a Seer as I am, but we must always think before we act," she begins.

Are they snoring yet?

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Nope, not snoring. Most of the girls have heard this sort of thing before, but again, from the people in their heads or Eleanor. The girls, respectfully at least, all shuffle down into a seated positions around inga, and settle in to listen.
Alice is the first to hold up her little arm and be called on. "What about if we want to do something? I know Ellie wants us to be good All The Time but sometimes plasmids make things easier like when I want to think really hard about something I listen to the people in my head, is that okay?"

Inga has posed:
Inga looks to Alice, blinks, then looks to Eleanor with a raised brow. "I'm afraid you will have to refresh me on this 'plasmids'," she says. Inga truly doesn't know how to answer this. She knows the girls have other...consciousnesses inside them, but the particulars of this escape her.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor hmmmms. "Spirits of the... past, the elders. People who were part of the collective back on Rapture." She looks over at Alice. no judging in her eyes right now. This was sharing time.
Billie and Helen are whispering with each other, maybe planning a question.

Inga has posed:
Inga nods. "The spirits of the past...even spirits may have their own agenda. You must use your best judgement. As I said, think of the reprecussions of your actions. Will it harm anyone? If so, that makes everything more complicated," she adds.

Inga takes a sip of her tea, then looks to Billie and Helen. "Do you have something to say, girls?" she asks.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Alice nods a little bit and falls silent, sitting down with a cup of tea and thinking hard about that.
Billie is the one to speak out of the pair. "How do we know what we're doin' is good? I mean, Ellie says being good is a sub-juct-ive thing but how do we know?"

Inga has posed:
Inga takes another sit of tea, thinking on her answer. "I will not lie to you. That is very complicated. We cannot always know that what we are doing is good. We cannot know every effect of our actions. Sometimes, what we think is the right thing at the time turns out to not be the right thing. Sometimes, what we think was wrong turns out to have been the best outcome for a given situation. When you are about to perform magic, or any action really that involves other people try to ask yourself. If I do this, will people be harmed? You must weigh your options...if you do nothing, will more harm come to people? Are those people good, innocent, or less powerful than you are? Less able to defend themselves? Then, generally, I will act to protect. I will give information or use my magic. Sometimes however...I may judge my intervention would make matters worse. If someone asks me for a vision for instance...what if what I have to tell them will influence what they must do? Should I keep silent?" she asks.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Okay that one lost Mary a bit at the end, but she's 5 so she's forgiven. The youngest one wanders back over to Eleanor and sits in the big Sister's lap for hugging.
Billie's lip sticks out a bit. "Well that's really hard, and... and dumb. What if we don't know, are we gonna get yelled at? I mean, wh-what's the point if we're gonna get in trouble for doin' stuff?"

Inga has posed:
Inga shakes her head. "If you use your best judgement...the people who love you will judge you fairly. There may be people in life who yell at you for the decisions you make. You cannot please everyone. You can only do your best and when you make mistakes, try to learn from them," Inga instructs. "That is the way of life. Wisdom is hard earned and power can corrupt--ah," she pauses, seeing little Mary is lost. Best to simplify. "Sometimes, when you have powers other people don't it can be easy to hurt other people. You start to think you are more important, more special. That's wrong. You have a responsibility to do your best for the people who do not have the ability to fight back. Abuse of power...only shows your own weakness."

Inga takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "I suppose we should also talk about self-defense. Remembering what I have said, if someone is trying to hurt you--to kill you--you have the right to defend yourself with whatever means are at your disposal. Do not think your life just more important than others...but never assume that it is LESS either. You have the right to live. If using magic is all you can do to keep yourself from someone harming you, use it. Try to be careful not to cause more harm than is really needed...but protect yourselves," she continues. "Indeed, protection is a specialty of mine and I can show you many ways in which it protect yourself from harm. I think perhaps that should be where we begin with practical lessons," she says, glancing to Eleanor for confirmation.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor smiles at all of that. "Excellently put." There's some nodding from the older girls as well.

Most of them do perk up at 'practical training'. but Eleanor holds up her hand as well. "Girls what's rule one about self-defense?"
All of the girls, even Mary, recite the rule. "Run away as fast as you can and call for help."
    "Rule two?"
"If that doesn't work, think as hard as you can about stopping the baddie."

    "...and what's rule three?"
    "Never ever talk to Kyubees."
"Alright. Inga, I think that's a good point to start. On your feet everyone, we're going to show Aunt Inga what you can all do, alright?"

Inga has posed:
Inga nods. "Indeed, if you can run and get help? Do so first," she agrees.

Inga sips her tea again and stands back, ready to see what the girls can do.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
    Right!

All of the girls get into a line, youngest to oldest, and Eleanor smiles as she steps behind each of the girls. A hand plants on Mary's head and Eleanor smiles. "So, as the girls get older, more of the powers they gleaned from the collective of the Family will start to manifest, so we'll start with Mary first."

The littlest Sister nod nod nods, and her curly red locks start to prickle and fizzle and stand on end as-
Litthe bolts of lightning start to prickle between her fingers, static shocks that get Elle's hands to flich and twitch. She's still making contact though. Eleanor smiles. "She's also good at sneaking though she's not supposed to be using those powers in the house. Invisible girls are not good for the house right now."

Inga has posed:
Inga looks to little Mary, a warm smile appearing. She's just so adorable. Maternal insticts going into overdrive.

She watches, eyes widening slightly. She's five? With such power? Inga was already seeing the wyrd by five...but not throwing electricity or becoming invisible certainly. "That's very amazing Mary! Indeed, you should not use your invisibility to play pranks or hide from your family though. No matter how tempting," she says with a wink.

Inga looks to the next eldest girl. "So, as they age their powers become stronger? Is there a point at which they reach full potential or is there no limit?" she asks. Scary thought. And pertinent.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor and the girls all tense at that last question, even as the Big Sister moves over to Alice and plants her hands on the blonde girl's sholders. "Ah... the Sisters... if they are not freed from the programming put in place on them by the time they reach puberty... the hormonal changes send them... more than slightly feral. Capable of being trained and instructed and pointed at a target or set a task, but they will never function socially again."

Inga has posed:
Inga straightens, alarmed. "What? What do you mean, freed from the programming placed on them? How can that be done?" she asks. She didn't know all this.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor bites her lip, and then with.. someting unspoken, all the girls sit down again, climbing over towards Inga a bit to sit closer. They're... well they might be expecting a reaction.

"Ah. Back home, we were used as a method of collecting and producing the genetic material that powered the abilities and transformative effects you see here. We are all a symbiotic creature, with a sea slug like organism implanted inside of us, alongside our stomach. It produces a goop that has amazing restorative powers at its core, and can be crafted to induce abilities in other people."
A sigh. "Owing to where we lived, of course, this wa turned into a business, and we were used as living factories. What's worse, once the War started and peolpe started being killed, it was decided that the... material in the deceased should not go to waste. So we were all... programmed to go out and collect it from the dead, in tandem with our Big Daddies as Protectors."
Hank wobbles and lets out a reassuring whale moan.

Inga has posed:
Inga sits too, pulling one of the little ones into her lap if they'd like, while she listens to Eleanor's explaination.

The expression on her face grows dark, a deep anger sparking to hear how these girls have been treated.

"I see...well, it is difficult to comprehend but I am trying. So...you must override this...need to seek out this material?" she asks.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor hugs at Alice while Mary clambers into Inga's lap. The other girls sort of nod quietly as Eleanor straightens up. "That is my goal, my mission in life. My... Father, not by blood but by choice... spent his last breath saving the Sisters, and I shall do the same. He lives here... with me now." She holds her chest, and... knowing Eleanor he might actually be a part of her blood.
The woman straightens up. "And f we do not reach them in time,... we do what we can for them. Two have been killed in the process, athird... hasn't come out of the hospital."

Inga has posed:
Inga nods, her lips set in a frown as she wraps her arms lightly around little Mary. How terrible. Is there no end to the horrible things? She supposes the worlds must be as full of terror as they are wonder...but more often than not, terror seems to tip the scale.

"I see. Is there anyway that I can help you? Any way I can help the girls?" she asks.

Eleanor Lamb (40) has posed:
Eleanor smiles, smiles, and smiles at Inga's question. "You're already doing that. I... You're not that much older than me... i mean, actual age, not... ah, temporal age. And that's why I rely and you and Riva and Nasa and everyone to help. These girls... mean the world to me, but they mean a lot to the rest of the World too."

Inga has posed:
Inga nods. She is /not/ a thousand years old! She's just...removed from the time when she was born. Far, far removed.

Inga nods to Eleanor, respect in her eyes. "You are doing so well. Frigg watch over you and your girls. I will help however I can. If that means teaching them I am more than happy...if it means cursing anyone who tries to hurt them? Also happy," she says, voice darkenig near the end. She wouldn't let any harm come to these girls if she had a say in it.
