Summer Sellouts
Date of Scene: 15 June 2015
Location: Tomoeda-865
Synopsis: On a balmy summer day, Tomoyo has in several Elites to commission new outfits.
Cast of Characters: Sarracenia, Tomoyo Daidouji, 747, 774

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
It's a balmy summer day in Tomoeda! The air is filled with the drone of cicada song and anyone who is selling cold treats is enjoying a roaring trade. Tomoyo's Boutique doesn't sell such things, but it does have signs in the window advertising advanced fabrics that shift in thickness and breathability in response to the conditions.

The girl herself is inside, quietly pleased at having sprung the extra money for air conditioning. The muggy heat is being beaten back easily by the quiet machine, causing a marked difference in temperature once someone enters. She is currently working while waiting for customers, sewing up a torn shirt.

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
It's pretty rare that Scarlet finds the time to actually visit somewhere like this in person. Usually the tailor has to fly out to meet her, not the other way around, or in the rare instance that they actually make as much money as she does, they'll conduct business over AR link. Tomoyo being an actively registered Unionite is a heavy part of the decision to go to such a relatively small city, but most of it comes down to the high regard she holds as being a truly multiversal tailor, catering to more than just one world's fashion trends, which is something she has yet to deal with.

The magus arrives still in her school uniform, having decided to stop in before going home rather than getting changed only to go out to one store. It looks like it should be far too hot for Japan's less temperate climate, especially with all that black, but she soldiers on with it anyways. She may or may not have actually wasted the effort with a climate control ward in the last stretch of the journey, but if she did, she'll never tell. Despite that, she makes a little noise of approval as she feels the AC blasting over the doorway, taking a moment to shift the strap of her messenger bag and hit the service bell. One familiar remains outside, while the other squeezes through the door, but since both are currently immaterial, nobody will notice.

Sarracenia has posed:
Princess Sarracenia -could- have tailors brought in, but she rather likes shopping in this manner. The princess arrives wearing her usual dress. So, she greatly appreciates the climate controlled shop, which means she can put away the little parasol she was carrying to keep the sun off her neck and help keep her cool. She slips it into her purse, which doesn't seem like is should be able to hold such a long item.

The princess takes a look around the shop, to see what sorts of things she might find here. She has an item in mind for commission, but she does like to browse the local wears.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo looks up from her sewing as Scarlet enters. Her eyes take in that school uniform, not recognizing it from any nearby schools. Someone from another universe then? She puts her sewing under the counter and bows with her upper body, a pleasant smile on her face when she rises back up.

"Welcome to Tomoyo's Boutique~ How can I be of assistance?" She repeats the same greeting to Sarracenia when she arrives, quietly marvelling at the fabulous princess dress she's wearing. Unfortunately, Tomoyo doesn't have the time or resources to make a lot of premade clothes. While some mannequins are set up bearing examples of her work, most of the store floor is taken up by shelves bearing the materials they have to make clothes from. Rolls of fabric, jars of dyes and liquids and hunks of metals, wood, teeth and bone line the shelves, each with a little sign explaining their properties.

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
Summertime heat is summertime hot! Better than it being cold, of course -- he absolutely /hates/ the cold. But still, any break in the heat is welcome. Dorian, like many others, seeks some respite from Tomoeda's summer heat, and the Boutique presents just that! Besides, it gives him the opportunity to see what fashions are 'in', in this world.

A modern world means a modern outfit. So as the dark-haired mage with the immaculately-groomed facial hair enters the Boutique, he's dressed in a white dress shirt that's been rolled up to his elbows, a pair of light khaki pants, and white dress loafers. Though the serpent-headed staff slung on his back might mark him as being a little out of place.

He notices the others here and offers a polite smile. "Quite a popular spot," he observes in a cordial and pleasant tone. Though he keeps back for the time being, as he's just looking, and the girl who just spoke up is likely the one who's helping customers at the moment. No sense bothering her if he's just looking.

Sarracenia has posed:
Sarracenia walks past the others, not really taking much notice of them, and up to Tomoyo. She smiles sweetly to the boutique owner. "Greetings. I am Princess Sarracenia Sundew, Crowned Princess of the Sundew Kingdom. And, I require a dress made, fashioned after the dress in this picture."

She then pulls out...a Yu-Gi-Oh card! Namely, the Dark Magician Girl. She sets the card on the counter. "How long will it take you to make such a dress?" she asks, then after a moment adds. "As a princess, money is of little consequence, but I do still expect it to be reasonable."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo bows to Dorian as he enters too! "Welcome sir, to Tomoyo's Boutique~" she says with a smile. She giggles at his comment. "Well, I try~" She looks as Sarracenia approaches and adds, "I'll be with both of you in a moment!"

When the princess introduces herself as such, Tomoyo's heart skips a beat. Dress-making for royalty?! That would be a huge boost in publicity! However, she doesn't want to be showing favouritism, so she does her best to maintain that smile. Though the corners might lift a little more.

She looks down as the card is placed on the counter. "Oh goodness~ It's been a while since I've had a customer come in with such a clear vision in mind!" She takes out a sketchpad from under the counter and quickly draws a figure in pencil, copying the outfit from the card onto it. "Hmm... do you want to go for maximum authenticity, or comfort? Authenticity would require a lot of stiff fabrics which might make it a little uncomfortable. Comfort would mean copying the general style, but without the stiffness."

Sarracenia has posed:
Sarracenia considers a moment. "I would like much of the authenticity retained, but the skirt is a bit too short for my tastes. If you could extend it to just above the knees, and ensure it closes or is otherwise covered in the front, that would be ideal." the princess explains, smiling. "However, this is a dress merely for casual wear, so comfort overrides authenticity when necessary. I am mainly concerned with the top, the boots, and the gloves."

She then glances over at a bin labled teeth. "...You truly use such things in your creations?"

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
Scarlet's uniform is both distinctly non-Japanese in style, and visibly more expensive than pretty much anything able to found in the phone book within Tomoeda. Tomoyo should be pretty easily able to recognize it as foreign simply from that, even if not for the excessively finely detailed Circle comprising the school crest on the breast. The girl herself however is letting it do all the work in stateming about the kind of cash she has to throw around, taking on a completely inoffensive, non-demanding tone before even opening her mouth. The reason? Tomoyo looks like she still has a ways to go before she's even old enough to graduate from high school. If someone like that is running a successful business with Elite clientele, their family is an extremely big deal, or they themselves are a rare prodigy, i.e. kind of person where one gets better results from cozying up to them rather than bullying around.

"And you must be Tomoyo, correct? I think I've heard your voice before, though I didn't expect to find you here alone! Do you really run and finance this place all on your own? I'd assumed it was more of a brand than an actual store. Can I surmise this is a hobby of yours? You don't seem like the kind of girl who doesn't go to school~" She politely hides the expression she wants to make at seeing Sarracenia's choice in apparel after introducing herself as a princess. The word "kingdom" is already quaint to her, but handing out a game card and requestion cosplay is just a little too much! "Scarlet Everille. A pleasure to meet you. I do volunteer work with Heaven or Hell, in addition to contracting them from time to time." There's the only real name drop she thinks she needs. A single reputation bomb fired with tastefully surgical precision.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo listens close to Sarracenia, erasing the skirt and redrawing it to be longer and more modest! She also makes some notes, suggesting some kind of silk lining to maybe keep the wearer comfortable. "Goodness, you plan to just wear this around?" Tomoyo doesn't sound like she's judging at all! She actually sounds a little enamoured by the idea.

"Oh! Yes, I do." She nods at the bin (which is labelled 'Misc. incisors') and adds, "That for people who want kind of a primal look~ You know, clothes adorned with trophies from prey! That kind of thing."

Tomoyo does indeed note the fine make of Scarlet's outfit! She doesn't seem the slightest bit intimidated though. "Well, I had to take a loan to get it up and running~ But I'm already starting to pay it back!" Although, when Scarlet suggests it might be a hobby, she blinks. "No, of course not. I'm always serious when it comes to fashion." And that look in her eyes, a quiet passion... she really means it.

"Nice to meet you~" Tomoyo doesn't look terribly impressed by the name drop, but she does say, "Oh! I made a suit for the head of Heaven or Hell a while back~ It was very classy. But, what can I do for you today?"

Sarracenia has posed:
"Indeed." Sarracenia replies to Tomoyo's question. "It is cute, and aside from the ridiculous hat, I believe it would compliment me quite well." she says, smiling. She then looks around again. "It is quite an accomplishment to gain your own fashion shop. Perhaps, if you make my dress to my liking, you may find me coming here quite often."

Sarracenia then looks to Scarlet. "What sort of outfit is that?" she asks, looking her over. "It is a bit...drab, is it not? Grey is hardly a flattering color."

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
Scarlet looks a little more caught off guard at Tomoyo's response than she had been at her question, though she disguises it very well. "Apologies, I misspoke. What I meant was that I expect you do this because you enjoy it rather than out of a pressing need to. I think it's admirable that you decided to finance this all on your own, but you don't seem like someone who did it because they needed the income." It's a fancy way of saying "Fifteen year olds don't get loans unless they're already well connected." which is good, because well connected is what she looks for in a business provider.

She smiles at the mention of Psyber however. "Right! That's how I came into your name. It was quite impressive after all, especially now that I've come here and seen its source for myself." The strangely unspoken implication doesn't appear to be a jab at Tomoyo's age or working conditions, but that this kind of cozy hole-in-the-wall startup business is the fashionable thing somewhere else. Specifically, a place where brand clothes are so commonly worn that wearing quality from somewhere nobody has ever heard of is a statement worth a fortune. "I actually need something similar. Something a little less formal perhaps, but businesswear all the same. Something I can wear to represent myself in an official capacity, in lieu of an actual uniform."

She looks to Sarracenia with a note of politely suspended disbelief, ostensibly inoffensive, but silently implying a much greater depth of bemusement. "It's the uniform of a private academy. Students wear them to indicate they are attending that school during hours. Do you not have those where you come from?"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo rubs her chin when Sarracenia calls the hat 'ridiculous.' "Well, I could alter it a bit! Keep it close to the spirit of the original while making sure it meets your tastes~" The idea of making a princess a repeat customer IS very appealing, so Tomoyo is eager to please!

Looking to Scarlet, she smiles, that intense look fading away. "Oh, I see~ No need to apologize. You would be correct, but I want to do what I love, even if I have a multitude of easier alternatives." Well, she must be connected if she has so many!

She tilts her head and stares hard at Scarlet for a long moment. She's heard her mother talking to other businesspeople using a similar way of speaking, and they always mean more than what they say. But, it does seem that Scarlet is being nice, so she'll take it as it sounds~ "Well, thank you."

She goes to a new page on her sketchbook and begins to consider Scarlet's request. "Something businesslike, hm?" She takes another look at the school uniform, trying to pin down the decade it could come from. It looks... modernish? But at the same time... hm. So she decides to draw from her gut!

Quickly drawing a figure, she starts to sketch an outfit on it! Starting with a single-breasted crimson business jacket with black notched lapels and black buttons on the cuff. Next, she adds a sensible business skirt in the same colour, down to knee length with a small slit on each side to allow easier movement. The tights she adds next are black, with low wedge heels on the feet, crimson with black soles and heels. The next part is most surprising though. Rather than a tie, Tomoyo draws a cravat around the neck! Multiple layers of ruffles go down to be tucked into the suit jacket, each one alternating between red and black. In addition, embroidery of a rose bush has been added into it, red on the black and black on the red, flowing together into a single scene.

All while Tomoyo draws this, she quietly hopes that a fight doesn't break out between the two women. It was a risk she was expecting, dealing with Elites and all, but she would like to go as long as she can without one! Eventually, she shows Scarlet her design. "I know a cravat is a weird choice, but... I kind of feel it would really suit you~ I can change it if you disagree though."

Sarracenia has posed:
While Sarracenia does have a temper, in this case it is not triggered. "Ah. My sympathies. Being required to wear such clothing by your place of learning must be hard. I did not attend a formal school. My parents paid for tutors to teach me personally at the castle." the princess says to Scarlet. She tilts her head in curiousity after that. "You are fond of this style of clothing?" she asks as Scarlet orders a similar outfit for business occasions. "I suppose it does lend itself to such a setting. Formal, but not attention-grabbing."

As Tomoyo mentions altering the hat, Sarracenia waves her hand dismissively before flicking her hair. "No no. Do away with the hat. Perhaps a lovely tiara modeled after the first level of the hat, but I do not wish to have a cone atop my head. The tiara will require appropriately lovely and large gems, of course." she says in a voice that suggests she is quite used to explaining her tastes.

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
Homeschooled too. Cute~ To someone like Scarlet, Sarracenia radiates country bumpkin vibes like activated uranium, not helped in the least by the entire concept of monarchy being something best considered "quaint" back home. Oh the number of things she could say to her right now must be in the triple digits at the very least. It's all she can do to lift her hand to her lips as if considering the sketch-in-progress deeply in thought, just in time to hide the condescending smirk that takes place there, dispelled by the time Tomoyo finishes.

"You're right. It is a little bit of an odd choice." Scarlet says indecisively, leaning over slightly to stare critically at the page. The way her face reflects absolutely nothing of what she's thinking is a little unnerving, considering how long she wears that impenetrable expression. Typically someone only does something like that to something they're prepared to hate. For her however, it's just reflex for whenever she's seriously considering something. It seems a little bold, but considering the places she's been to, that might actually not be a bad thing. Though initially ambivalent, the design starts to grow on her after a minute or so of examination, to the point where she feels fairly satisfied that Tomoyo has a firm enough grasp of what she's doing that she can trust in something not ordered from her world. "I'd like to see two of them, the second in reversed colours. I'll pay you for both of course." But... she hasn't even asked how much it would cost yet. "I may have special request of the embroidery. Can I see some examples?"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Ah! That is a good idea~" Tomoyo erases the hat from the cosplay sketch and replaces it with a tiara modelled on the tiers of the original. She incorporates some pink lace poking out from under it, the same shade as the skirt and draws in some embedded gems, favouring those in colours that match the rest of the outfit, such as lapis lazuli, sapphires, amethyst and spinels.

Scarlet's long, quiet examination of the sketch actually gets Tomoyo squirming a little. Though she doesn't look afraid, more... eager. Anyone willing to examine something for so long is probably thinking hard on it, which means honest opinions! She beams when Scarlet says she approves, and asks for a version with inverted colours. "Of course, of course~" She makes a note to do just that.

"Examples of our embroidery? Certainly!" Reaching under the counter, she takes out a clear plastic folder and opens it up! Within each page is a sheet of fabric with some fine embroidery on it. From subtle, such as a white village on white lace, to the more bold such as red silk with embroidery in multiple shades of red, black and yellow to look like a volcanic cloud.

Sarracenia has posed:
Sarracenia watches the sketching Tomoyo is doing for her dress. She considers the lace. Will it look good on her? And then she realizes...it is pink! "Oh, no no no. I do not wear pink." she says, a bit of a dark look on her face. "Forgive me. It is a detail that slipped my mind in my excitement about obtaining such an outfit. It is quite lovely, but the pink is a color I do not allow on my body. Please find a red that compliments the outfit as effectively as the pink."

It is perhaps a good thing that Sarracenia cares more about herself than she does about Scarlet, and thus misses those expressions she is giving. She does, however, spare a glance at Tomoyo's sketch for Scarlet. "The style is fine, but why not choose some more flattering colors? Rather than grey, a crisp black would make you stand out more without being intrusive."

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
Scarlet picks up the folder herself, flipping it open and fixing each sheet with a stare even more intensely analytical than she had the sketch. This time she isn't surveying for artistic merit so much as technical expertise. It can't look machine-made, but the level of pure finesse she's checking for is exceptionally high, perhaps even unreasonably demanding. The implications are probably less obvious to someone from a world other than hers, but then sourcing it from here makes it a better cover.

She holds the binder open at one page, turning it around to show Tomoyo and tapping on the most complex item she can find with one fingernail. "I'll be needing something of this level, but half the size. I hate to cramp your artistic freedom, but I'll need it according to a very specific design, with very specific materials. I'll provide the template and the components confidentially. You'll get double the hourly rate if you can pull it off, so how's that sound~?" How predictable that a magus would hide emergency Circles inside their own clothing.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo blinks. That's quite a sour look on Sarracina's face! She doesn't understand why she would make such a request, but the customer is always right~ "Very well." She erases the notes on making those parts pink, and writes in their place 'a complimentary shade of red.'

As for Scarlet, she taps at a design on a black piece of fabric. Tomoyo was inspired when she was bismuth for the first time, and tried to capture that multicoloured fractal design in embroidery. She succeeded, but she recalled her fingers aching for weeks. However, she doesn't seem afraid of the challenge Scarlet is offering. Instead, she gets that look in her eyes again, that quiet passion. "I can do it!"

Looking at the two women, she them proceeds to list a price for each of them. Sarracenia's dress has the dubious honour of being one of the most expensive Tomoyo has ever made, given the real gems and all. But, it is still reasonable and well-within a princess's budget. Scarlet's two outfits come up to a lot also, given the level of complexity she's asking. But, it is likely still much less than what the big-name tailors would charge from her world. "But, you don't need to pay me right now~ I only ask for payment when my customers are totally satisfied!"

Sarracenia has posed:
Princess Sarracenia is of course unphased by the price quote. She actually seems happy about it. "Oh! At this rate, my royal tailors will have to be replaced!" she says happily. Whatever that dark shadow was, it seems to have passed now. After looking at the sketch again, Sarracenia smiles. "I do hope the dress comes out as lovely as your sketch."

She actually giggles when Tomoyo says not to pay her now. "Oh, my dear Tomoyo. That goes without saying." she says cheerfully. "I never make payment before I am satisfied with the product." She actually reaches to give Tomoyo a cute little pat on the head. "Well then, I suppose I should return to my castle. It was nice to meet both of you. Take care." She curtseys politely, then heads for the door.

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
That's exactly the kind of look Scarlet was hoping to see. The kind of expression only someone dedicated to getting something right because they want to prove they can do it can make, rather than one prompted by sheer opportunism or the allure of just enough cash slapped on the table. "Good to hear~ If it really does look too complicated after I send the designs over, you can feel free to skip that part and just charge me for the outfit itself, but, well, I have a good feeling about you~" This could be the part where she pays half up-front anyways, but Tomoyo seems far less self-interested than most business owners. Possibly less than she really should be. "Do you have an estimate on how long it'll take? I'm in no real hurry, but it'd be nice to schedule time to come and see it in person."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo waves goodbye to Sarracenia as she leaves. She doesn't seem /too/ offended by the pat on the head, but she's not entirely sure how she feels about it either. She can't shake the feeling that she was just spoken down to. It's been a long time since she has, and her memories of it happening aren't exactly fond ones...

Ah, but Scarlet is asking a question! "Oh! Well, to be honest, I've finished most of the outfits I still have. I guess the downside of marketing to Elites is their busy schedules~ It takes them a while to come pick them up!" She giggles, before rubbing her chin. "Hmm... with embroidery like that, I would say... maybe 3-4 weeks?"

Scarlet Everille (747) has posed:
Well, that's perhaps a little longer than she'd like, but at a price like that, there's a very strong incentive not to complain. It had actually taken all of Scarlet's willpower not to look taken aback when Tomoyo had finally forwarded the figure, but she seems to be a little more in control of it now. "I'll come back in 3 and a half then to check on how it's going~" Reaching into her pocket, she produces what is unmistakably a business card, though it's hard to say what business it could actually be attributed to, other than something catering to the high class. "Feel free to drop me a message any time. I check them four times a day." She curtsies briefly as a simple token of appreciation for Tomoyo's time, hefting her back again and turning around with a swirl of jet black hair, waving coyly over her shoulder. "Ta taa~"

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
Dorian's politely remained out of the way, for once not worried about being the center of attention. He's more interested in the clothes. Mostly this is a profesisonal interest; the last time he'd gone to a tailor and asked for a sample of modern clothes, it had been a suit. Admittedly a very smart white suit! But rather more formal than he was looking for.

So what better to do than go look at things himself? Hence when the Boutique presented itself, other than a place to get out of the heat, it presented itself also as a place where he could see some examples. So while Tomoyo's been helping other customers, Dorian has been examining the clothes!

At the moment Dorian's got the material of a shirt between his thumb and forefinger, as if testing the feel of the material. Very likely he's never seen the material before. Particularly if there's any clothes made of manmade cloth materials. He's not judging, mind. Just being curious.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo waves goodbye to Scarlet as she leaves, before turning her attention to the quiet man looking over one of her outfits. The material is silk, spider silk specifically. It has a slightly different feel than normal silk, and seems far more durable.

"Sir? I'm free now, how can I help you?"

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
Dorian hears Tomoyo speak, and looks in her direction as if surprised. He releases the edge of the garment with a smile, and turns in her direction. "Oh, yes. Do forgive me, I've never seen spider silk worked into a garment. I'd have thought it would be too sticky to serve as an effective material."

Tomoyo's question gets a chuckle. "While I know you no doubt hate it, I'm not actually sure how to answer that question," he replies. "You see, I come from a world you might think of as 'medieval'. It's quite difficult to blend in when you're dressed like you're from a thousand years in someone's past. Ad I don't like the idea of being thought of as 'backwards' or 'archaic'. you could call this a 'scouting trip', I suppose."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo giggles. "Usually, yes~ But the farm I buy it from uses giant spiders, bred with magic so their silk isn't sticky. Spider silk is far stronger than regular silk, enough to make puncture-proof clothes from it!"

Listening to Dorian's concern, she nods along with him. "I've had Elites from worlds like that before~ If you're looking for more modern attire, I can help with that!"

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
"Puncture-proof, eh?" Dorian crosses his arms over his middle, raising a hand to his chin in thought. "I can see how that could be useful, yes. Though I question the wisdom of raising giant spiders." He pauses a moment, looking around. "You don't raise them here, do you?" He seems to be worried about this, just a little.

But her question gets a nod. "That's exactly it, yes," he replies. "I despise the thought of people looking at me, seeing my attire, and then turning their noses up and huffing something rude under their breaths pertaining to my parentage."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo giggles and shakes her head. "I would love to have some of them myself, to keep down costs. But I don't have the resources yet. So no, no giant spiders around here, don't worry~"

She rubs her chin as she stares at Dorian, noting his modern ware. "Well, it looks like you have some already! But those are terribly formal. Am I correct in assuming you would like something a little more casual?" She flips her sketchbook to a new page and draws a male figure on it.

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
"Customers not being eaten by giant spiders keeps costs down too," Dorian points out. He might even be kidding! It's hard to tell with his tone, though he does have a smile on his face, so he's not meaning to be rude, that's for sure.

He nods to Tomoyo's observation. "And it's not exactly the best for walking around in this heat either," he adds. "Not to mention the utter ruin sure to befall it should I get into a scuffle. That does tend to happen with an alarming frequency."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Well, I wouldn't keep them around here! I would buy some farmland or something, obviously~" Tomoyo says with a smile. It seems that she is not put off at all by the idea of giant spiders. Either that says more about her bravery, or Dorian's.

"So, something sturdy that you can move around in a fight in..." Tomoyo nods to herself, and begins to sketch an outfit on the figure. Starting with a plain t-shirt, her eyes flick up to take in the entwined serpents that make up the head of Dorian's staff. She grins, and on top of the shirt, she draws a snakeskin jacket. "Now, I have a lot of different kinds of snakeskin, if you would like a specific colour or pattern~" Next she draws a pair of jeans on the figure, along with a belt to hold it up and a pair of boots. She seems to linger on those two things, before eventually just drawing a cowbot hat atop the head.

"You have a nice, neutral look, so all sorts of colours would suit you! I uh... kind of got carried away after the jacket. I kept thinking 'cowboy' so... if you don't like it, please say so!"

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
Either for her bravery or that Dorian's had previous experience with giant spiders, one. But he nods. "That would indeed be better for customers, I think," he chuckles. The mention of snakeskin gets a smirk. "That seems to be an image people associate with me quite a bit. I wonder why~?" His words seem to indicate that he knows exactly why, and is very likely teasing.

He quiets, though, and watches as the sketch takes shape. He tilts his head at the hat, though. "Hmm... I'm not so sure about the hat," he says, a hand at his chin in thought. "I admit, I'm not familiar with the concept of 'cowboy'. Though I can guess it has something to do with cattle." He smirks. "I'm definitely no farmer. I'm a mage, if that helps. Oh yes. I do quite a bit with fire and lightning, so something that won't catch fire would be wonderful."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo rubs her chin, eventually nodding. "Mmm, I understand. To be honest, I'm having second thoughts about the jacket. They're not really 'casual' outside of certain places. You'll still get a lot of looks wearing something like that."

Tomoyo erases the hat and jacket and starts again! This time, she draws a blue denim vest over a dark green top with scale patterns in black. She also annotates the boots, indicating they will be black. As a final touch, she draws a pair of sunglasses on the face.

"There we go! The glasses will help protect your eyes from the flashes and light from fire and lightning~ In addition, I'll incorporate a weave of M5 fibre into them. It's stronger than Kevlar, so they'll protect you, and it doesn't burn easily!"

Dorian Pavus (774) has posed:
"That's a difficulty I'll have quite a few places, I'll wager," Dorian replies. "With the sheer amount of variance of the worlds in the Multiverse, what one world calls 'casual' another calls something completely different. And likely quite unpleasant. Which reminds me ... out of curiosity, has that ever been a problem for you before? That a world's fashion customs have made it difficult to design an outfit?"

This second outfit that Tomoyo draws gets a smile. He listens as she explains the outfit and its 'fibers'. "Ah, very useful," he comments. "You can probably imagine how difficult that is with a cape. It's rather hoisting onself by one's own petards, as you can imagine."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo taps the tip of her pencil against her chin as she muses over the question. "Hmm... I've not accidentally offered an outfit that was taboo or against someone's customs, no. But I actually invented a show for a race of ratpeople that didn't exist in his world! I'm planning on opening a factory there once I can afford it~"
