Time to Talk
Date of Scene: 02 September 2019
Location: Fairyland Hall
Synopsis: Rean and Mikoto explain themselves.
Cast of Characters: Rean Schwarzer, 7002

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
Rean sighs, looking up at Fairyland Hall. In the end, he couldn't figure out a place out in the main world to talk to Mikoto that was private enough given the subject. So he figured the inn proper would work. 'Just be honest with her.' He thinks, sitting on a nearby bench outside. At least it was nice out, right? Perfect weather to fix a friendship...or screw it up further.

Mikoto Shimizu (7002) has posed:
Mikoto was not exactly thrilled to have this conversation.  Whatever it was, she expected the worst.  It was easier to expect the worst in all things, because when they didn't turn out pear-shaped, then you could be surprised.  Of course, she does admit this would sometimes lead into her making what she feared happen come to pass, but...well, hope and despair.

The hotel was somewhere she got to crash in the meantime.  She did somethings for people, you know because she wasn't one to mooch.  She earned her keep, and of course, had fun doing different things she wasn't used to.  Also the Wyverns.

The Wyverns were /awesome/.

In a dress, green of course, Mikoto sits down at the bench but doesn't say anything.  Not right now.  She doesn't really know how to start this off.  'Oh, thanks for being friends with the woman trying to use my normal life against me because she's a giant bitch.'  That or 'thanks for stopping me from murdering my uncle.'

There just wasn't a card for this kinda thing.

"So..?"

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
He's not really sure how to start this off either. He knows that his actions hurt her, even if they were the right thing to do in his mind. And as he told Sara the night before, he still kind of did.

But it's not like he /hated/ her for trying to kill her uncle. Hating people was saved for those who harmed others purely for their own benefit, and not out of desperation like Mikoto.

Eventually, finally, Rean says, "...I'm sorry."

He gives Mikoto a quick glance, before continuing. "If I'd known that's what happened all those years ago, I'd have done a better job of helping you move past that. I don't think I'll ever be outright 'ok' with you trying to kill your uncle. But I also don't think you deserve to go to jail or get blackmailed for just /wanting/ revenge. Wanting and actually acting on it are totally different things. The fact that you had several people going 'Do it, I dare you' didn't help. My attempts at talking you down probably sounded like I was condemning you with everyone else, which wasn't my intention."

"I just want to see you be truly happy despite the whole contract thing, and I don't think hurting your uncle will do that.  But maybe I'm still not getting it. Maybe despite also being an abandoned child, I had the fortune to end up with a good family, and that prevents me from truly understanding what it's like. But I /do/ want to understand. I can't do what I wanted to do when Majima and I came over that one time if I don't."

Mikoto Shimizu (7002) has posed:
"Oh!" Mikoto says, actually surprised.  "I thought this was the 'I am going to give you a chance to come over peacefully' kinda deal, not the 'I'm sorry, but I'm not wrong.'" Mikoto says, not mockingly, just actually surprised.

"I know you feel that way.  Maybe in your words, you were right.  I just can't bring myself to forgive him.  I can't forget either.  That life is still apart of me as the new one made by that wish."  There is a pause, and a sigh escapes her lips.  It's easier to be calm and rational when you're not in the moment.

Of course, he still makes the offer to help her, because...?  She still does not understand.  Right now, if Lilian were here, she'd nail him to a wall for saying those things.

"Alright.  You don't get it.  Then the whole story.  I was born to the brother of that man, a different lifetime ago.  It will make sense as I explain.  That man, my father...left me with him often, because he worked.  My mother died in childbirth, giving her life so that I could come into the world."

"My uncle said as much, not in a mocking tone.  Matter of factly at the time, and at that time I really did not understand it.  It was why my father never was around, presumably.  He threw himself into his work to support me, but really it was because I reminded him of her...of what he had lost."

"Then he too died.  My Uncle, I guess, was not prepared for the responsibility?  Maybe it was he who I reminded him of someone he had lost?  I don't know...he just said one day that we were going to go to Tokyo.  I thought maybe it was to try and cheer me up.  I didn't leave Tokyo with him."

"You see, Orphanages in Japan do not work the same as they do in other places.  You don't go there to get adopted.  You go there to be thrown away.  The law makes it nearly impossible to be adopted.  I was the youngest, so I was abused.  Told I wasn't wanted and told that nobody cared."

"Only in strays did I find any happiness.  I could understand them.  I guess they knew I, too, was abandoned.  And then a strange rabbit came across my path.  He could talk, he asked me that I could have any wish I wanted...if I made a pact with him.  I was desperate, young, afraid...tired of the life I was living."

"So I made the deal.  Nine years I grew up like that, and then...there was a light, and I woke up in a bed.  I had new memories...I had a father, a mother...siblings."

"Until that too, was taken by the witches instead.  I wasn't just abandoned to a good family, Rean.  I wasn't just given to someone who wanted to care for me.  I lost the only family I had, and the other part of it tossed me into the gutter."

"I'm not sorry for what I did."

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
"What...? Oh, no. This has absolutely nothing to do with the Paladins or anything like that." Rean says, waving his hands in front of him. "It's just me." Lilian would totally nail him to the wall for being a naive derp. A lot of people would. But that's just how he rolls.

He listens intently as Mikoto tells her story. "That's...wow." Rean says, looking away. He figured her wish was something like that, and her thing with her uncle made it clearer. But just hearing the whole story made a lot of things make sense.

Rean sighs. "I figured as much. I wasn't expecting you to forgive him immediately, not after that. Maybe not try to kill him again, but I get the feeling that's not gonna happen either."

Mikoto Shimizu (7002) has posed:
Mikoto becomes quiet, the conversation didn't go the way she expected, but at the same time, she is not surprised by the result either.  The resolution wasn't going to be as clean-cut as Rean might have wanted.  Because she refuses to promise anything, especially when it comes to her uncle.

With a sigh from her, she just turns her head slightly away.  Finally, she speaks, though a bit colder.  "Was that all you wanted to say to me, Rean?  A radio conversation could have relayed that to me."

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
Rean sighs. No response. Figures. Better than 'No I'm definitely going to go kill him again,' at least. He just had to hope they wouldn't need to clash over this particular issue. Both of them were stubborn like that.

He laughs when Mikoto points out they could've just done this over the radio. "Yeah...I just thought it'd be better if we spoke face to face. Just know that if you need someone to vent to, I'm still here. I won't spill your secrets all over the radio, or anything like that. Like I said, I want to see you find happiness and if that means being a verbal punching bag, to help you get there, then by all means."

Mikoto Shimizu (7002) has posed:
There was another sigh...it was like communicating with a wall.  A very dense wall.  Of stupid.

"You shouldn't get hurt because of me.  People who care about each other shouldn't do that to each other.  I can find my own happiness, I can fight against this on my own.  I don't need to hurt others who have nothing to do with it.."

"And let's be fair, we both know if you keep trying to do this, you'll get hurt.  Either I'll do it, or Lillian or some other crazy Paladin will.  Besides, we both know you care for someone else MORE.  It's not a secret..."

"Just...go be happy."

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
Unfortunately for Mikoto, Rean IS that stupid.  She's trying to get him to leave for his own safety, which doesn't matter at the moment.

"...Didn't you try that line on me a while ago? And it ended in Touta, Arthur and I 'bullying you?' Like it or not, I'm already involved."

Someone he cared about more? "...Who, Elise? I mean...that's true, I guess. But that shouldn't stop me from trying to help you. I'll be fine. I can't stand by and watch someone I care about at all suffer. If I have to do that to be happy, then I don't deserve it. "

Mikoto Shimizu (7002) has posed:
"Oh.  Right." Mikoto says, maybe a little dejected, but at least that was out of the way.  There is a sigh, and then she seems to slump just slightly, maybe in defeat.

"Alright, sure.  As friends.  Just... don't go killing yourself or those you care about over me, ok?  No one needs to suffer on my behalf."

Rean Schwarzer has posed:
Rean nods. "Yeah. As friends." He says, smiling. "And don't worry, I'll try not to do that." No actual guarantee on the former, but on the latter, definitely.
