A legendary sorcerer and spirit master, Abe no Seimei is a man who has done great things in his life. He has saved villages, exorcised hundreds of spirits, and even separated the worlds of Spirit and Earth. However, before he could savor victory, his rival trapped and cursed him in the Spirit World--leaving Seimei to wander and eventually find the Nothingness between. His accursed state forces him to conserve his chi carefully to avoid becoming a withered corpse of a man. But, after his narrow escape from eternal prison, he is guided by a second chance and new wisdom gained from Nothingness. For now, Seimei continues to be the curious, charming, and easygoing man he has always been. He takes everyday in stride in the Multiverse despite coming from a very ancient era, although some resent him for being a tad TOO lackadaisical about life. Past the smiles and laughter, though, Seimei struggles to answer a question: How will he end all suffering that is life?
CURSE OF CHI: A powerful curse placed on Seimei by his rival has severely altered his spiritual energy. It has ultimately taken away the man's once eternal youth and also made his spiritual energy unstable. This results in Seimei having to gather chi constantly to preserve his youth and maintain his ability to battle effectively. He has to be careful of how much magic he uses on a day-to-day basis, or else he reverts back to being a sickly old man of some hundred odd years old. (Sometimes played as turn "losses" in battle, requiring absorption to gain energy back quickly to last 1-2 more turns. He may also have to step out of a battle altogether, depending on how much he is exerting himself or how much damage is being done to him)
CURSE OF PESTILENCE: Another effect of the curse, Seimei begins suffering illness when his chi is low. Minor symptoms begin after moderate use (e.g., coughing, migraines, fatigue, etc.), and if he continues, symptoms worsen significantly (e.g., nausea, coughing blood, etc). These symptoms plague him until he is able to rejuvenate the proper amount of energy. (An example: If Seimei himself is fighting, moderate symptoms will almost always begin to emerge by the fourth or fifth turns)
BONDS OF SPIRIT: All damage done to Seimei's shikigami is directly felt by him via the empathetic link of chi enacted by their contract. "Death" of his shikigami, which is impossible without killing Seimei himself before the contract is broken, is felt as severe, debilitating pain. Shikigami are also only as healthy as their summoner's chi reserves, so he cannot summon them after cursed symptoms emerge. It is very unwise for Seimei to fight alongside his shikigami directly unless he has a good reason to--shikigami will not last long (maybe 1 more turn, codewise) once moderate symptoms begin.
A MAN WHO LOVES HIS LUXURIES: Seimei has a happy-go-lucky, carefree attitude about... pretty much everything in life. But more noticeably, Seimei tries to get out of doing any dirty work unless he absolutely has to. In the choice between slacking off and getting something done, he will weigh in favor of slacking off, especially if it involves extra time to smoke his pipe and enjoy a good drink. He is weak-willed to the joys of free time. At times, this may even result in him pouting and sulking--and even becoming quite irritable--if he has to end up doing something he doesn't particularly like.
STUBBORNLY SUPERSTITIOUS: Trained in divination and all sorts of arts related to fortunetelling, Seimei will consult portents before going into battle or making most important decisions. He will often refuse to take action on a day or time that is considered unlucky, and he is quick to tell you precisely when something might go very wrong (or, alternatively, very well). He is unshakeable when it comes to these things, preferring to err on the side of the most harmonious path possible for himself or others.CONFLICTED NIHILISM: Seimei's whole world has been shaken up by a recent philosophy he has taken up: to erase ALL suffering. How he intends to do that is unknown at this point, but he knows that it could one day require the destruction of all beings. Their lives, their memories, and all that they stand for. But Seimei questions these beliefs. This philosophy has arisen from staring into the Nothingness between the Spirit and Human worlds. He is unsure of where it might take him in the future... TL;DR this is represented by a lack of conviction, at times, when it comes to subjects like: killing or severely injuring another person (particularly an innocent), honor and integrity, and helping others.
