Profile

ARK LINE is the product of a world pushed beyond the brink. One of the many creations of a dying humanity, Ark is an Ether Liner: a near-human who possesses the ability to process the poisonous "Grain" that is slowly driving the humans who made him to extinction. Armed with a rare and powerful weapon made from his own Grain-infused bones, Ark has fought a seemingly never-ending battle against the mutants who would see the last vestiges of humankind destroyed on a long-dead Earth... until a chance encounter drew him into a war for the Holy Grail he ever knew he wanted. A self-styled hero of his own world, Ark is a cunning and ruthless young man who will do anything in his power to see the Land of Steel live and the humans on it saved, regardless of who must suffer for it to happen. He is followed by a Heroic Spirit, Caster, whose arrogance and brilliance have led him to believe in the end goal of Ark's cause, though their opinions on the methods used frequently clash.

PREJUDICE: As one of his world's few Ether Liners with a Knight Arm capable of being used as a weapon against the universally-stronger A-rays, Ark has developed a prejudice against the animalistic mutants and any creatures similar to them. While this only rarely manifests in openly derogatory comments (typically in the heat of the moment), it is instead reflected in his actions, leading him to assume the worst of anyone who is sufficiently inhuman in this manner. Individuals may overcome this prejudice once Ark gets to know them, but it's an uphill battle to be sure.

FIGHT TO WIN: Due to his militant upbringing and the world in which he was raised, Ark functionally has no concept of honor or making a fight fair. If he is engaged in a contest which he wishes to win, he will do anything in his power to win it, including taking actions others would see as excessive or ruthless to achieve victory. This tendency in particular puts him at odds with anyone attempting to oversee and enforce a Grail War's various rules and etiquette, and while it means he approaches problems from unexpected angles, it could easily rally the honorable against him when he would need them on his side.

GRAIN DEPENDENCY: As a Liner, Ark has been engineered to process Grain for energy like a superfood. As a result, this gives him a dependency on the poisonous substance that permeates his world, needing it like anyone else would need to eat to survive. While Ark is capable of eating many times the amount a human would need to sustain himself, or could gain pure, concentrated magical energy from another source, it is terribly inefficient compared to the real thing. Additionally, Ark expends stored Grain in his body to utilize his Knight Arm and to power Caster's Noble Phantasm, further increasing the demand for the high-energy substance. While Ark typically carries enough Grain-laced food to survive several weeks outside his home, this does not take into account the use of either of these things, which would strain his portable resources considerably.

POISONOUS PRESENCE: Due to the massive quantity of poisonous Grain in his body, Ark is a walking hazard to the natural world. While not immediate, his continued presence in an area will cause plants to wither and die, animals to sicken and the ground to change to the dead, steel-grey sand of his home. The damage isn't notable until hours have passed, and doesn't seriously threaten his surroundings unless he spends days in the vicinity, but it makes it very difficult for him and other Liners to live outside the Land of Steel for long without bringing similar ruin to another world.

INDEPENDENT SERVANT: Ark's Servant, Caster, only technically requires his presence to activate his Noble Phantasm. Additionally, one of his skills makes him functionally immune to the use of Ark's Command Seals. This means he effectively has no control over his own Servant, necessitating he win his loyalty and cooperation through other, more mundane means. Like being a decent person. (It's much harder than it sounds.)
