Profile

A mysterious young woman who wears a mask at all times, Duet Fortuna was a participant in the war that killed the Emperor of the Windward Empire in Terra Majora. Apparently impulsive, somewhat mercenary, but grudgingly believing in the betterment of mankind, she is a fast-moving sword and gun user of mild supernatural stamina and speed by most appearances. Her true identity is the traitor Elliana Fairchild, after faking her death and fleeing the Confederacy. Having betrayed the Union to place a dark being within her soul in a bid for ultimate power, she has control over nightmares and dreams, along with incredible elemental attacks and other mystical powers such as flight, or the ability to twist life to her own desires. Yet her time in the Confederacy forced her to reevaluate her life, and she now hides out in an attempt to start anew, with deep regrets for what she has done.

Child of Divinity: Duet's passenger is no longer considered evil by nature, but it is still in opposition to the lifegiving nature of its world. Thus, Elliana is vulnerable to some anti-divinity attacks, especially if they are aligned against nightmares, chaos, or destruction.

Mortal Shell: Even if she is mostly a divine being now, Duet has trapped that divinity within a body of flesh and blood. Usually this is fine, but when overextending her powers, she can damage the body and weaken the seal temporarily, forcing her to collapse or at the very least retreat to gather her concentration.

Opposing Blood: The Divine Blood was never meant to mingle with the power of a Shajem. Though the actual side effects vary from time to time depending on how much she's been using her powers, abuse of her abilities will cause temporary - or even permanent - alterations to her body in an inhuman manner, usually scales, claws, and other inhuman accents.

Imperfect Seal: Due to the heavy injuries and massive interference she sustained during the soul fusion with the Lord of Nightmares, Duet has difficulty fully restraining the power of the Shajem within her. This does not cause her direct problems, but the nature of the being's power means that those who spend time around her are likely to experience nightmares for some time after they leave her presence. She is not immune to this effect, herself, and it makes it difficult to stay in one place incognito. She can repress it with effort, but this means that when tired or distracted she may fall victim to it. (Consent-based for Elites)

Power Leakage: Related to the Imperfect Seal, when Duet is stressing her powers she may, at times, cause unpredictable changes in the environment around her. This usually causes plants to change their nature, turns plants into simple animals, or alters animals in some way. Sapient creatures and Elites are outright immune to this effect. This can make it very easy to track her, and can sometimes have unintended consequences for diplomacy, since she does not control the changes.

Imperfect Control: The creatures that Duet creates are supposedly under her control, but it is more like a persuasive influence. The more power she grants a creature, or the more complex its mind, the more likely it is to rebel in some way. For unintelligent creatures this simply means they will not follow orders, but the practical upshot of this flaw is that, even if she were to manage to warp a sapient creature, a strong-willed or Elite creature could resist her commands. Her caution means she limits her creations to fairly simple beings, like worms and insects most of the time.

Wrathborn: The Lord of Nightmares inside Duet's Seal is normally a nonsapient being, but bonding with her has given it Duet's intelligence. Choosing the name Wrathborn, it is an entity that speaks with and 'advises' her at times, but has its own agenda. Often this is in line with her own, but if they disagree Wrathborn has a limited ability to hold Duet's power in check. She is only at full power if both Wrathborn and herself agree.

Secret Identity: Though known to a few trusted souls, Duet's true identity as Elliana Fairchild is, at least, something she wishes to keep secret from her world. She also attempts to keep it from becoming known as much as possible when out and acting on her own. This means that she is /severely/ limited in what powers she can display, and most of her stronger abilities are unable to be safely accessed in public. This restricts both her versatility and her raw power, unless she can arrange to fight in such a way that she does not give away her identity. Also, the mask she wears disguises her features and voice, but it is vulnerable to attack, and damaging it may force her to retreat rather than risk exposure.

Wrathborn's LOSAF Adventure February 2nd, 2015 Dear Warden,

I write to you from outside this Book of Heaven to beg for your mercy. We have never met, but fate has caused us to meet with one another in this way because of our natures and the natures of those within.

I speak of my friends, but primarily of Arthur Lowell, for my friends have come to you in order to seek him out. I admit, I do not know you. I do not know of your nature. Do you seek to give people their heaven out of love or hate? A wish for hope, or perhaps a perverse twist, I cannot tell, for I cannot view your pages.

I wish to believe the better of you, that you wish to truly provide happiness. But as people touch the lives of others, we create connections that cannot be easily forsaken. You are undoubtedly experiencing that now, and have experienced this before. The multiverse needs Arthur. Not just Afterus, but many other lands, including the world you reside in, depend on his knowledge, courage, and bravado in order to preserve themselves and find some semblance of peace. This is why he had come to your world in the first place. I do not know if you are cognizant of this, or if you care, but for someone to create a heaven, they have to be capable of some level of empathy, can they not?

We have come to find a release for Arthur. This is a fact that cannot be denied. The terms and nature of this release are up to you. I am fully capable of doing such if needed, however, if you push me and my friends to the limits. But there is no need for a confrontation, nor doe we have to come to dire ends. Anything is possible in this multiverse. If you care to name your price, perhaps we can find a way to come to agreeable terms. There has to be something we can do to solve your own problems, should they exist.

You may wonder why I seek to establish contact. Why I am working so hard when others are already working. I admit to a more... personal interest. I find Arthur to be a fascinating person. He is fun and exciting, and we share many interests. He shows surprising intelligence and maturity under the bravado, he is intelligent and handsome in his own coolkid way. I know there's a lot more under the shell he projects.

But I can tell hs is also in a lot of pain. He needs assistance, something that I do not believe he can receive in this world of heaven that you create. We cannot live in a Heaven forever. We will never grow, and become the kind of person we need to be in order to contribute to the world around us and make it a better place. I want to help him. I want to find a way to heal those scars and give him a way to face the infinite worlds, if not without regret, at least without pain.

I pray that you consider my words and that you will find it in your heart to relent. I am prepared to give a great deal to win his release from your land. This... Heaven.

I await your answer.

History

No one can claim that Elliana had an easy childhood. The details are vague to everyone but her, but by this point it has become well-known that she lost her parents at a young age, and that she spent many of her formative years on the streets, scrounging for survival. It took years to escape the squalor, and by then she had seen and done some terrible things just in the process of surviving.

Elliana came to the Union considerably different from this, her past her own and her demeanor much more pleasant. As a priestess, she aided in the healing of injured Elites and advised others in how to handle situations without combat. While sometimes distant, she maintained a polite and respectful tone at all times. Her abilities in battle, compared to many Elites, were almost useless, leading her to take more of an advisory role. This sparked what appeared to be a friendship with Nathan Hall, another low-powered Elite, and he was the first one she recruited for finding and sealing the Lord of Nightmares, a dark god on her own world.

Over the following months, Elliana and the friends she gathered worked steadily to seal the Lord of Nightmares. She made certain to always speak the truth to her allies, though often let them believe a mistaken interpretation. This allowed her to more easily slip into a position of trust, gathering her new friends about her to complete the Sealing at the precisely correct time to give herself an incredible boost in mystical power.

Upon the time of the Sealing, Elliana revealed her true plan: to fuse with the Lord of Nightmares and use the life force of her powerful new friends to call down the power of her patron goddess, Chalaine, and fuse with that as well. This would cause a chain reaction drawing in all the remaining powers of her world, ascending her to true godhood above all the others, allowing her to wipe clean the world and remake it in a less flawed image.

She succeeded in the first task: the Lord of Nightmares was Sealed within her own soul. The second did not go so well, and in a vicious battle within the temple, Elliana was horribly wounded and forced to flee into the arms of the Confederacy, a price on her head from the Union for the defection and an angry god within her mind.

In time, Elliana recovered her strength and began to work more toward the Confederacy's goals. She reasoned she could take the long view and eventually try again… but the Shajem inside her had other plans. The Lord of Nightmares, previously non-sapient, could tap into her own intelligence and become self-aware. He trapped her within a dream of a more pleasant life and took command of her body, masquerading as her while working toward unleashing the other Shajem of Elliana's world. Only a combined Union/Confederacy effort within the dream realm of Elliana's sleeping mind rebound the Lord of Nightmares, now calling himself Wrathborn, and returned Elliana's body and power to herself.

In working to free her world of the dangers of the Shajem, Elliana realized that her means of doing so was, in a way, more damaging than the sickness itself. The continued worsening of her relationship with the bulk of her allies in the Confederacy, and the deterioration of Nathan Hall's psyche as a result of her actions, eventually lead Psyber's attempts to reform her into something like a success. In a grand plan to destroy the Emperor that had ordered the death of her parents, Elliana faked her death and assumed the identity of the woman named Duet Fortuna.

Relationships

Unyielding Rampart (Not currently played): The Solar was one of Elliana's more enthusiastic friends, in the Union, and very insistent upon trying to find out what Elliana's motivations were for her betrayal. She thinks him slightly naive, but warily respects that he is smarter than he acts, and regrets that she used him as she did. His power as a Solar Exalt also commands her respect as well.

Himei: Like many of her relationships with Union members, Duet's relationship with Himei is complex. The Sailor understands the horrors of the world, the dark side of humanity and the depths to which it can sink. Yet somehow, despite it all, she still fights for them with a grim determination that Duet finds both fascinating and more than a little intimidating. Himei's zealous hope in the face of overwhelming bitterness was a small reason Duet changed her mind about the Confederacy. She feels they could be friends, that they were friends, yet some part of her can never understand what drives the Magical Girl. Himei does not know Duet is Elliana, but as Himei is suspicious of Duet, work to befriend her is difficult.

Amalthea: Duet does not quite know what to make of Amalthea. As a representative of purity and holiness, Duet believes that Amalthea should be less… bitter. The knight's vendetta against her has only reinforced her confusion, but some small part of her is sympathetic to the construct for the history she knows. Now that Amalthea has calmed somewhat, she has considered finding out more. Amalthea is unaware of Duet's true identity.

Psyber: Of all the Unionites she maintains relations with, Psyber is the one that Duet feels understands her best as she is now. The half-angel has formidable power and the understanding of 'doing what is necessary' even if it isn't what feels right. He also understands her differing philosophy on how far one should be willing to go. She is aware that he has some interest in moving things beyond simple attempts at redemption, but sees him as a valuable friend, a worthy adversary, and a sometime ally all at the same time. Now that she has assumed a new identity, she has started to explore a more open friendship with him. He is aware of her true identity.

Nathan Hall: Although the feeling is far from mutual, Duet holds a great admiration for Nathan Hall. He is a simple man who has, through sheer guile and curiosity and skill with words, advanced both his station and his own abilities to formidable levels. Many mistook Elliana's fascination with the man as romantic interest, but at her core Elliana saw the General of the Union as her most dangerous adversary and, if she could coax him to her side, her most valuable ally. Nathan's hatred was part of why Duet eventually chose to flee the Confederacy, and he was instrumental in setting up the plan to do so. He is aware of her true identity.

Sakura Haruno: 'Frustration' can best sum up Duet's feelings toward the pink-haired healer. Frustration and pity. Sakura is not seen as a serious threat by the Lady of Nightmares at all, and Sakura's continued hatred and vendetta toward her is a source of sorrow, even as she can understand it. She greatly admires Sakura's skill as a healer, however, and voluntarily placed herself at the woman's mercy by allowing her to transfer the new Command Spells for Mordred. This means that Sakura is aware of Duet's true identity, and acts as a form of insurance that Duet will not use this as a means to do more evil.

No. 9: While Duet does not view Nine as being very intelligent(with rare exceptions), she recognizes him as being a very complex man. His vicious and murderous nature actually unsettles her, at times, yet his concern for her well-being despite their rocky start has touched her. Nine is one of the few in the Confederacy that Duet will not just help out of obligation, but put herself at great risk and go out of her way to aid should she feel he needs it. Fortunately, this is rare. He is unaware of her true identity.

Charity Whiteheart (Dropped): Saved on a whim, Duet still views Charity much as one would a child, despite Charity's half-decade of age on Duet. The thief has proven adept and useful, especially after her empowerment, and Duet also believes her to be reasonably loyal. She has taken a guarded stance of distant respect, hidden behind an air of indifference, with a curiosity to see just how strong Charity will grow. Charity is aware of Duet's true identity.

Winnowill: Dangerous. Winnowill's powers are similar in some ways to Duet's, and have lead to some very fruitful collaboration. Yet in working with her, the former priestess has recognized that Winnowill is one of the few people who may be able to match her scheme for scheme, and unlike Duet the elf has no moral limitations. Winnowill is unaware of Duet's true identity.

Medusa Gorgon: Sly and manipulative, Medusa has earned Duet's amusement and some respect at the same time. She finds the woman's demeanor and curiosity, paired with that quirky morality, somewhat endearing… just not trustworthy, and very dangerous. Medusa is unaware of Duet's true identity.

Mordred: Duet had no intention of gaining a Servant, and was mildly put out when she regained control of her body to find that a Servant had been linked to her. Still, it was Mordred who found her true self first within Duet's mind, and since then the Servant had proven surprisingly versatile despite what is, on the surface, a direct and simplistic personality. She has come to realize that Mordred's blunt nature is actually a complement to her own, and has become pleased with the Saber's presence. Mordred is trusted surprisingly well for her nature, and is aware of Duet's true identity.

Kimiko Shinobu: While she barely knows the Puella Magi, Kimiko's obsession with honor and justice has had a surprising impact upon Elliana. Kimiko's distaste for her methods and insult to her honor has given Duet some pause in whether or not she should care about the younger teen's opinion, but it may have been a factor in abandoning the Confederacy. Kimiko is unaware of Duet's identity.

Lance Benson: Duet is not sure what to think of Lance, given the man's possession of an alien creature inside him. Part of her can empathize with that, while the rest is simply wary. As a person, however, she holds him in modest respect and has better relations than most with him, and she has a bit of a soft spot ever since he took the effort to try to find out what was wrong with her when she was controlled by Wrathborn. Lance is unaware of Duet's identity.

Lezard Valeth: A dangerous and boastful man, Duet respects Lezard's skill and intelligence, but finds his bluster to be offputting and believes him to be largely insane. This unpredictability irks her somewhat, but she has little to do with him if she can help it, especially after her 'death.' Lezard is unaware of Duet's identity.

Nox: As ruthless as he is dependable, Duet admires Nox for his skill and dedication, though she does not agree with his goals. She keeps a cautious distance only due to his raw power, but does not consider him a threat to her plans due to their widely different methods and approaches. Nox is unaware of Duet's identity.

Adelyn Lysen: An efficient and straightforward mage, Duet recognizes that Adelyn is somewhat amoral, but in a sense 'likes' her all the same. They work together extremely well, and she was one of the few Confederates that she considered herself to have a generally positive relationship with. Adelyn is unaware of Duet's true identity, but is aware that Elliana is not dead.

Madeline Vance: Though leery of the conqueror's attempts to expand her territory, Duet does recognize that Madeline is at least a reasonable ruler. She respects the woman for the trials she went through, but avoids her beyond professional encounters. She has a mildly positive bias and may come to help if asked. Madeline is unaware of Duet's identity.
