Profile

To the unaware, Hisoka is a magician, capable of inhuman feats which the ignorant call magic. In truth he's a fighter, able to manipulate his aura to enhance his formidable physical abilities and to deceive. Little is known of Hisoka's past, in part because he isn't interested in it, and in part because he makes little secret about being a whimsical liar. In fact his name, Hisoka, is a corruption of the words 'It's a secret'. What isn't a secret, however, is his desire to meet strong people. To fight them, and in some cases to kill them. He is creative, cunning, patient, and completely amoral. Strangely however, he can be trusted. So long as it suits his long-term goals, he's been known to be helpful to those he likes, which are typically those he isn't yet ready to kill. He's clever and patient enough not to compromise a long-term goal with a short-term betrayal.

Untrustworthy: Hisoka makes no secret that he lies often and without reason. It helps him misdirect others when he has deliberate deception in mind, but it also means others tend to study his words more intently, looking for reasons not to believe him. It doesn't help his cause that most of the time, he appears not to care if he's believed or not.

Self-Sacrifice: At any cost victory. He's prone to trading wounds, disregarding his own injuries, and even taking wounds he could have avoided just to psychologically dominate his opponent or as 'souvenirs'.

Bloodlust: Hisoka is intent on killing strong enemies, or those who think too highly of themselves but don't measure up. This is a compulsion which grows stronger when it's frustrated, and he can drive himself into a state of distraction if he spares people he'd normally want to kill. As a result his Nen Vow is actually quite serious, weakening his concentration and therefore his power when he's fighting someone he's unable to kill. It also means when he does decide to kill, he can become too intent and end up blindsided by something unexpected. It may not normally be easy to surprise him, but it becomes easier when he's driven by an earlier repressed compulsion to kill.

Nen Vow: "Never kill someone with the potential to become strong enough to fight on even footing". If someone has that potential, Hisoka can never use his full strength against them - even if outnumbered in a fight, even if it would save his own life. He can only cut loose entirely once they actualize that potential or they become permanently limited to a lesser level. He literally can't break this vow, having sworn it on his life.
