Wash often tells those that care (and those that don't) how he was raised on a planet that was so polluted he never saw the stars. Only black he saw came belching out of a smokestack. He says he turned space pilot for one reason and that was to breathe clean air. Given that space is a vacuum... Well, Wash thinks it's funny. He came to the captain of 'Serenity' with the reputation of being one of the best damn pilots in the 'Verse and he has more than lived up to that high claim. Which is why the good captain overlooks such things as Wash's taste in apparel, which tends to run to the garish and bright-colored, and his toys-namely dinosaurs-that have frequent rows on top of the control panel. Wash can fly anything that's spaceworthy and more than a few things that aren't. He can land the 'Serenity' on a pocket handkerchief, and make her give him more than she'll give anyone else. He's a man the crew can count on when they're out on a job, even if staying behind isn't easy for him. But he'll be there when captain and crew need him to be there, and that's not nothin'. His carefree nature and extreme loyalty to the rest of Serenity's crew can get him into trouble as often as not, but his attitude can win him more friends than enemies most days.
Lightweight: Saying Wash has a weak constitution is like saying Jayne is only a little interested in guns. Alcoholic beverages of even minimal potency are surprisingly quick to bring Wash to a state of drunken stupor in moderate quantities. Furthermore, just about any intoxicant, narcotic or otherwise detrimental to one's state of consciousness substance one can imbibe or inhale is extremely effective. This could be something as minor as a tranquilizer dart or an errant breath of chloroform, or as potent as a cloud of paralyzing gas.
Loyalty: To his wife, captain, and crew he serves, Wash is reliable to a fault. No matter the protests, arguments, or outward disdain for a situation or course of action, Wash will be there for captain and crew. This could include putting himself in the line of fire quite literally to make planetfall, or endure multiple rounds of torture to rescue his captain.
Carefree: Wash is not an intense individual. He often comes off as aloof, absent minded or even cowardly. He's easily distracted by trivial things, and can be found, for example, playing with toy dinosaurs on the ship's control console and nearly missing an alarm light blinking. His carefree attitude can also easily earn the ire of those without the stomach for it, the pilot's brand of jokes or humor drawing aggro from those who would otherwise ignore the oft-unarmed man. The large, bushy moustache he sports sometimes creates friction with the rest of the crew (and oftentimes just about anyone who sees it.)Jealousy: Wash's fierce loyalty can be a detriment at times. Namely when his wife, Zoe, is involved. He can become ill-tempered and unreasonable when circumstances put others between them, even if it's the captain, which can cause complications.
|I Only Wanted A Bite!||August 21st, 2014||Eric's Hunting goes completely FUBAR when he mistakes Wash as the vampire equivalent of a cherry pie. Malcolm takes exception to someone trying to eat his pilot. Hijinks ensue!|
