Miko Fujimoto is the civilian identity of Princess Paladin, a Magical Girl wielding a holy scepter. Miko's life as a normal person has been rough in the past, but has gotten better after joining the Confederacy. As Princess Paladin she can go forth and smite her enemies and those of her allies with magical powers. What qualifies as an enemy is up to her determine, and her powers remain at her disposal regardless of whether her acts are actually good or not. Holiness is based upon what one reveres. As long as she believes in her current quest and reveres her role as the bearer of the Sacred Scepter, she can do great evil without so much as a twitch from her mystical benefactor. However, now that her identity has been revealed, and her evil has begun to seep into the Sacred Scepter, a new identity has arisen - Midnight Shrine Maiden. She does not care about who or what Miko cares about, and she may spell trouble for Miko's attempts to become a more whole and healthy person.

BAD PERSON: Miko loses herself in the role of Princess Paladin because her life sucks. However, that life has become better recently, at least as it pertains to her sense of self worth, friendship, and her more balanced emotional and mental state. Anger and hate do not play as much of a role in her life, and thus do not serve as "fuel" for her actions as Princess Paladin. When she becomes Paladin now, it's because she wants to help and protect those important to her. She's still completely willing to attack and even kill her enemies, but innocent bystanders are not usually going to be targeted, and Paladin is simply more in control of herself and more "heroic" than she once was.

FALSE MATURITY: Though Princess Paladin appears to be older, wiser, and more confident in herself than Miko, she does not actually magically gain maturity or wisdom. The psychological warfare advantage of seeming to always be in control and to know better is off-set by the fact that she does not actually know better, may act out of ignorance or assumption instead of true foreknowledge, and that her doubts about herself as a person are still there under the surface.

MIDNIGHT SHRINE MAIDEN: In complete counter to the False Maturity flaw of Princess Paladin, Midnight Shrine Maiden possesses actual maturity and wisdom as a result of her form. But she is practically an entirely different person, far more ruthless than Princess Paladin despite her more even-tempered demeanor, and does not have the same values as Miko. While Midnight Shrine Maiden might work with allies, she might just as easily choose to pursue her own ends. This form and personality is a corruption of Princess Paladin, and she only has one "Quest" she must fulfill at any given time: To do what SHE wants. And what Midnight Miko wants isn't necessarily what Miko Fujimoto, or the Confederacy, want. She is a dangerous alternate personality who can not be controlled, and might not even go back to being Miko if she doesn't choose to.

QUESTS: Princess Paladin requires a quest or crusade of some kind to carry out in order to make use of her powers. Without a specific, focused task, and a sincere belief in that task, her magic does not work. She might be able to transform and remain that way temporarily. But if she attempts to use her powers for anything that lacks conviction on the level of religious belief and a clear goal to be achieved, she will revert to her normal civilian form.

TRUE NATURE: The Sacred Scepter is a tool of holiness and quests, but it is also an entity itself. It currently sleeps, influencing the world and its bearer through its dreams while it is dormant. Ultimately, it feeds upon emotional energy, and what kind of emotional energy it absorbs the most of will determine what form it takes when it finally awakens. The Sacred Scepter has metamorphosed into its next stage as a result of Miko's actions and emotions while wielding her magic. It has been tempered somewhat by her more healthy emotional sate, but she continues to commit acts of evil. The ratio of dark to light within the Sacred Scepter has shifted, and if it advances further towards darkness as a result of Miko's actions and emotions, the Sacred Scepter will enter its Pre-Awakening form. That will steal control of Miko's transformations and magic away from her and put them in the hands of the Midnight Shrine Maiden personality.

UNTRANSFORMED FORM: Miko Fujimoto has no appreciable combat ability. If she is caught in a dangerous situation when she hasn't had the chance to transform, she is incredibly vulnerable to all kinds of harm. (PL 16)
