Profile

A war orphan from the border village of Kyaro, Nanami was adopted by the former hero Genkaku, along with her brother Riou. Raised by Genkaku there, she and Riou became close friends with a local noble boy, Jowy, and grew up happily until Genkaku's death. Following that, Nanami worked hard at keeping the dojo they had grown up in open. However, she failed to attract enough students, leading Riou to join the military. Following a betrayal by Highland against the unit Riou and Jowy were in, Nanami and Riou fled into Highland's neighbor and enemy, the Jowston City-States, and joined a resistance against Highland. Nanami is very torn up about the conflict, especially as Jowy has ended up on the other side of it, and is extremely opposed to the notion that Jowy and Riou are destined to fight as the bearers of the Black Sword and Bright Shield runes. While kind-hearted, she can be rash and is quick to anger, as well as quick to forgive. In combat, Nanami is a well-trained martial artist, particularly skilled with the odd three-sectioned staff she uses most of the time, and while weaker than either Riou or Jowy in both magic and physical strength she's exceptionally quick. Nanami represents the Tenjyu star, the Star of Longevity, among the 108 Stars of Destiny.

Pacifist At Heart: While she's not opposed to violence, exactly, she's more a fan of the sort of violence that ends with the loser apologizing to her for whatever they'd said, not the village-burning, people-slaying, friends-fighting sort that's in style in the City-States and Highland currently. In particular, the thought of opposing Jowy, or Riou and Jowy fighting one another, is almost cripplingly painful for her.

Big Sister: Nanami made a promise to protect Riou to Genkaku shortly before his death, and she intends to keep it in spite of whatever she might have to go through. She's got a similar protectiveness, though less so, towards Jowy and Pilika.

Ill-tempered: Casual insults tend to make Nanami try to hit the person until they apologize. Riou (or any ally) can usually hold her back, and she's just as quick to forgive as she is get angry in the first place, but enemies who know her can easily provoke her. As, for that matter, can enemies who don't know her but happen upon the wrong line.

Bad Liar: And how! Nanami tends to try to oversell any lie she's asked to present to the point that almost nobody could fall for it.

Lethal Chef: Nanami's cooking has knocked grown warriors unconscious before. It's a matter of extremely odd (and particularly spicy) taste more than ineptitude, so she doesn't really see anything wrong with it, and Riou's grown mostly immune through long exposure.
