Profile

Nero Tol Scaeva is a Tribunus Laticalvius of the Garlean Empire's XIVth Legion, commander of the Frumentarium (the intelligence division) and one of its leading Magitek engineers and researchers. A prodigy in his field, he grew more and more obsessed with making a name for himself when it seemed that the Empire had eyes for no other engineer than Cid, something he felt was more because of his blood ties than because of his talent. A dedicated student of the ancient Allagan civilization through its texts, he has based much of his current, modern Magitek technology on it. Driven and dedicated, Nero seeks the same as all others in the Garlean Empire, to defeat the Primals and save Eorzea by bringing absolute order to it. Though loyal to Gaius Van Baelsar, his jealousy towards Cid is a bigger driving force than his superiors, and he will go the extra mile to prove himself just as worthy if not more, as long as his survival is not compromised; after all, dead men can build no legends. Between his suit of Magitek-enhanced armor and his gunhammer Mjolnir, Nero can be almost as fearsome as the Black Wolf himself, but shines brighter as an engineer.

Disadvantages

DISADVANTAGES, CLICK TO EXPAND
  • Magitek Dependent: As with all other natives of Garlemald, Nero cannot utilize magic naturally nor is he superhuman. Though his armor and weaponry more than close the gap, should he be deprived of them his strength would dramatically decrease, going as far as to make him unable to contend with most Elites in direct combat. (Significant PL drop if unarmored/unarmed.)
  • Victory At Any Cost: Nero does not tolerate failure, and does not have particular care for the fate of his men. He is unlikely to order a retreat on the simple basis of "your men will die" if an objective can still be accomplished. Oddly, this principle does not apply to him. Despite his (arguable) loyalty to the Empire, he does not wish to die, and puts his own survival above his mission's success, and above his men's lives.
  • In Cid's Shadow: The greatest engineer of Eorzea is Cid, and Nero is deathly aware of this fact. He is insanely jealous, both of his renown, and of his position as Gaius' favorite, even if his disappearance has all but rendered that moot. He constantly strives to prove himself equal to or better than Cid, to the Empire, and to his commanders, while being extremely quick to anger when his proficiency is put in doubt. For the sake of proving himself he can be pushed to make very grave mistakes, or to seek power that men are not meant to wield.
  • Faltering Loyalty: Nero seems quick to trust organizations outside the Empire, and seems to pursue an agenda of his own. Though this doesn't mean he is actively plotting to betray the Empire (on the contrary, his own agendas are used to bolster it where possible) it does mean that he occasionally wanders away from his objective to do something else or look at something he finds more interesting than his current assignment.
  • Affair?: Some people believe that Nero and Livia are having an affair of some sort, or that they act like a bickering couple. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, but there is a spark between the two, one that could be used against either of them if it were studied long enough.
