"We always thought alien life would come from the stars... but it came from deep beneath the sea."
The year is 2023, and the Earth is being ravaged by monsters.
Deep beneath the sea, at the floor of the Pacific Ocean, a rift between worlds has opened. And from that rift has emerged gargantuan monsters, veritable harbingers of the apocalypse. The first of these creatures, designated Trespasser, caught the world unprepared and caused unprecedented amounts of death, destruction and devastation before it was brought down - six days after it first emerged from the ocean. Tens of thousands died in the process. Three cities were destroyed.
But Trespasser was only the first in what would become a long line of nightmarish creatures. These monsters came to be known as the Kaiju, and they kept coming. Hong Kong, Manila, Sydney, Lima... the great cities of the Pacific were being attacked, leaving them destroyed by Kaiju or devastated and uninhabitable from nuclear retaliation.
However, in the face of extinction, humanity embraced its best nature - to cooperate, to adapt, to overcome. To combat this new apocalyptic threat, humanity pooled its resources and created the Jaeger Program: massive humanoid weapons of steel and metal, bristling with powerful weapons, designed for the sole purpose of fighting the Kaiju on their own terms - and winning. Two pilots mind-melding through memories with the body of a machine. The Jaegers are the force that holds the monsters at bay, fighting against the apocalypse with the fate - and hope - of humanity on their shoulders.
(OOC: This theme is set approximately 2 years before the main plot of the film (2025). Please consult with the cast on robot design for OCs and try to keep from apping overly-futuristic things like beam sabers and mecha that don't fit the setting.)
