Profile

A ruthless and remorseless masked mercenary, REAPER had been active on the battlefield for decades - long before Overwatch was formed. His resurgence with the fall of that organization is curiously timed, leaving dessicated bodies in his wake as he moves from fight to fight like an unearthly shade. Armed with a seemingly endless supply of twin 'hellfire' semi-auto shotguns and bizarre abilities, Reaper's focus is on hard, mobile strikes utilizing his expertise in asymmetrical warfare to inflict maximum damage. Reaper claims to be a high-functioning psychopath, and at first brush seems like a shallow soul - conceited, cynical and sadistic. Yet beneath the grumpy exterior lays a man who knows when to be professional, with a hard and unshakable focus on his mission , whether for the Legion or for himself. Rumor holds that Reaper may actually be Gabriel Reyes - one-half of the North America's Soldier Enhancement Program, and a founding member of Overwatch before his death. If so, then what was once a headstrong and pragmatic friend has become something dark and twisted, despite the occasional grim joke.

Advantages

Defining

THE GRAVE CANNOT HOLD ME - Reaper is immortal in the classic sense, in that he no longer needs to fear being dead. This stems from his ability to dissolve into a cloying black smoke and reform, the basis of most of his 'supernatural' abilities. While dissolved, he can crudely direct the pace and direction of his ghostly mass, using the ability to both avoid injury and to infiltrate places without air-tight seals. Even full incineration does not appear to be a permanent solution, for he will eventually regenerate should even a portion of his dissolved form escape. This doesn't make him invulnerable; Killing him is only as difficult as killing any 'enhanced' soldier. Making him stay dead is an entirely different matter, although it takes time for him to recover from the cost of each death. If he were prevented from 'reaping' other living creatures, or otherwise entraped and drained, then even he would succumb to a final rest.

THE RECKONING DRAWS NEAR - <CONSENT> When presented with the recently deceased, Reaper seems capable of absorbing the unfortunate to heal himself - leaving a dessicated body, or a corroded chassis in the case of sentient machines. The mechanism operating this cruel power does not seem to differentiate, so long as the thing was once 'alive'. So long as he is able to consume the living, he is able to utilize his abilities - including returning from death time after time.

Significant

READY FOR COMBAT OPERATIONS - Reaper's proficiency for combat and asymmetrical warfare has been finely honed. While he prefers to utilize the heavy 'hellfire' shotguns, he's more than capable of silent murder or even classic hand-to-hand. His skill set appears to be oriented more in black-ops technique, flanking and attacking from unique angles, but when push comes to shove he can wade in with the best of them. Combining his aptitude for violence with his acquired 'powers' presents a truly unique opponent, such as when he rapidly dissolves and reforms in different poses in order to fire in all directions at once - a technique dubbed 'Death Blossom'.

NEVERMORE - Reaper appears to have experience in strategical and tactical planning. His playbook emphasizes critical success over any other aspect of a mission - no matter the cost. He also has experience working with small, tightly knit crews using an instinctive grasp of a situation. While outwardly vindictive and his leadership style best considered 'cold', Reaper's focus is strictly on the bigger picture and the over-all objective against all other considerations. There are few things that can shake him out of that do-or-die mentality.

Minor

ENHANCED SOLDIER PROGRAM - Reaper has apparently gone through the Enhanced Soldier Program, displaying strength, endurance, and agility on par with that of a world class Olympian. However, these abilities aren't supernatural but are what would exist for a human at the peak of their training.

HELLFIRE SHOTGUNS - The twin semi-auto shotguns hold four rounds apiece, designed to up close encounters of the worse kind. They are Reaper's preferred weapon for their brutal efficiency. The most interesting part of them, however, is that they appear to be tangled in Reaper somehow - he never has to reload them. Simply throw down the empties and draw two more from his hips. The empty ones will eventually dissolve away, trailing the same cloying smoke that Reaper emits.

FIRST YOU LISTEN, THEN I KILL - Reaper has a fair hand with the Spanish guitar. No one's quite sure why, as it's rare enough to see him even consider hobbies - much less become proficient in something as humanizing as a musical instrument.

Disadvantages

I'M BACK IN BLACK - Having stepped forth from the grip of death again and again, Reaper has become over confident and arrogant; One might even call it 'hammy' or 'edgy'. If he's got the upper hand, he won't ever quite close the deal - he'll take time to stalk, to monologue, even to kick a puppy if that's what it takes to show just how much control he has. This can lead him to acting rashly if his pride has been poked, walking boldly into traps or acting on the basest of his violent instincts. While in this state of mind it become easy enough for him to miss the obvious, something that has ended up with him once more dead. This extends to his mode of dress as well - barely more than minimal armor, depending on his mobility and his vicious powers to see him through any situation. Not to mention he dresses in creepy costumes and masks, something that simply screams 'classic bad guy'. Or Hot Topic.

THIS IS MY CURSE - Reaper's body is in a constant state of flux, and it is agonizing. This has darkened both his perspective, personality and his goals. He doesn't empathize, he has a hard time relenting, and the whole multiverse has been brought down to two critical factors: With him or against him. He'll gladly use the latter as expendable resources. There are no barriers to a dead man, no hesitation in hurting people to get what he wants - whether physically or otherwise. Even when he's not in his 'bad guy' head space, Reaper seems a cold and malicious sociopath who abandoned morality and ethics long ago.

STICK TO THE MISSION - Reaper's entire existence seems to revolve around one mission or another; Whether an arc-goal or something more immediate and direct, he breaks every situation into its components and assigns them priorities. If a given circumstance is too complex, the obvious answer is to pare it down to its base components. While useful in maintaining focus, it also means that Reaper is not very good at improvisation. There is the plan, there are contingencies, and there are contact reactions. But it's always the unexpected developments that catch him, especially when he's in his 'bad guy' head space and can't be bothered caring about the little things.

MORE! - Reaper is forever hungry, though no food nor water can sate him. Brought about by the unique changes to his body, Reaper's form requires something else - life itself. Whether its a cloud of nanites tearing off raw material to stabilize him or some demonic force pulling the essence of existence is unknown; What is known is that going even a few days without 'reaping' can simultaneously weaken and madden him, sending him into a enraged frenzy as he hunts.

WHAT'RE YOU LOOKING AT? - If his attitude, voice, and manner of dress weren't enough to keep Reaper from being a true socialite, there's also the fact he tends to smoke when he's stressed - or very hungry. As in, literally smoke coming off his form, as if he were slowly evaporating. If he's going to slip into an area, he won't be able to do it with a simple disguise. He can't fade into a crowd, and he tends to draw the attention of security when seen. When you're Reaper, going anywhere is an exercise in infiltration - unless they're expecting you. Or the situation has moved beyond 'stealth'.
