Silence reigns after the radio plays the voicemail one more time. Surely her ears were wrong for once. Even if Toph knows her ears never are.

Slowly her hand begins to tighten around the radio, her face expressionless even as she tries to process the forced words she just heard. For now they are broken, hard to piece together and even more difficult to not focus on rather than the busy street. People pass by even as the young girl finds her hand slowly losing against gravity, and she realises she's holding her breath.

Vaguely she is aware of the sensation of metal giving in as her fingers tighten their grip more around the radio so it doesn't fall and hit the ground, and for a moment she hesitates. The next second she feels the radio being crushed, the metal screeching in protest before the broken pieces clatter to the sidewalk. Somebody near her is talking, but she finds herself unable to make out the words. There are other sentences that are whirling about in her head right now.

What she is aware of is somebody stepping closer, pointing at her and then pointing to the broken radio. Before they can reach out and grab her by the shoulder however, the earthbending master reacts by instinct, her eyes going wide as she throws her left hand up. The concrete of the sidewalk obeys, shaped into a dull pillar that she feels connect with the man's chin, sending him stumbling back.

The sounds and people around her all seem to melt together in one static noise and sluggish movements as she steps forward, her legs carrying her better than she thought they would. Most of the time she prefers not to think too much.

Right now she'd rather not think at all.
