Profile

Many people think that the children of the rich and powerful have everything they could ever want provided for them. When it comes to Sayuri Yaguchi, this couldn't be further from the truth. As the only daughter of the influential Yaguchi family, enormous pressure was placed on Sayuri's shoulders to embody the great power and respect her parents represented. A very groomed girl with an extremely high intellect, Sayuri is often hostile and confrontational towards others and seems to hate her parents. She might be percieved as driving others away, though actually is a very lonely person who longs for friends. She may have the confidence now, but she still doesn't quite know how to talk to people and as such only tends to associate with those who take the time to understand her aggressive personality. Powered by a wish to be more confident in social situations, Sayuri's magic manifests in an ability to evaluate the general abilities of others, combining this with her genius mind to formulate effective battle plans. She's no armchair general, though; Sayuri fights using revolvers in a frenzied yet elegant style inspired by gangster movies out of Hong Kong.

DISADVANTAGES, CLICK TO EXPAND
  • Soul Gem: If her Soul Gem is more than one hundred meters away from her body, Sayuri will--for all purposes--die until the Soul Gem is returned to her. Furthermore, the gem will turn darker as she exhibits strong negative emotions or uses magic, essentially forcing her to look for ways to keep it pure--Strong purifying magic or the 'chips' from hunting Demons native to her world. Should the gem turn completely black, it is likely the magical girl would disappear. Finally, if the Soul Gem is destroyed, Sayuri dies. After all, it contains her soul.
  • Arrogance: Sayuri's the sort who is proud of her achievements. This can easily be taken as arrogance. In the same vein, she's not at all shy about exercising her mental might--feeding the arrogant stereotype--and talks down to those who she perceives as less intelligent than herself and especially those who try to act smart when they really aren't. To a lesser extent, Sayuri has a habit of over thinking things that are simpler than they appear, and thinking too much about things that really don't need to be pondered at length.
  • Being Strategist is Suffering: As a genius and a tactician, Sayuri prides herself in the effectiveness of the plans she creates. But a lot of Puella Magi are solo operators, accustomed to working alone. And when they get together, most of the time, they do their own thing. Attempting to get even small teams of her fellow magical girls to work together is an endless source of frustration for Sayuri. And in the off chance that she can create a cohesive unit, if something goes wrong and a plan falls apart, it's even more irritating.
  • I Hate Stupid People: Sayuri hates stupid people. Not precisely 'those of low intelligence', but those who do blatantly stupid things for equally blatantly stupid reasons. For someone who weighs her options carefully before making a move, folks who just charge in headfirst without thinking tend to be very frustrating.
  • Darkness Within: As Sayuri's Soul Gem darkens, her abilities begin to corrupt as well and she may start using unusual magics which feel 'wrong'. Her mind also backfires, and her behavior gradually becomes more manic and unpredictable. When her Gem is nearly completely black, there's a risk that she may go berserk and start attacking everyone around her. Once knocked out of this state, she'll pass out until her Gem is returned to its former luster. If it can't be restored within a few days, she'll disappear peacefully.
