They failed.

Marrik sat in his shop looking at the fitful flickers of the dead that decided to use his shop as a meeting place. Most of the living didn't know they were there and for a day after returning from the flying island Marrik couldn't either. He put on a public face of smiles and 'attaboy we did what we could,' because someone had to. It was a trend he noticed of people beating themselves up over things they couldn't stop.

Yes he realized the hypocrisy.

His customers saw him doing the shop's tasks by hand; no showman-like flair, no things carried on barely visible hands. Not even 'summoning' the dead to amuse the wee ones. That last one actually annoyed the resident ghosts since it let them show off, but none of them said anything after Marrik had explained what happened to them. Never mind at the time he couldn't see who was there, he took it on faith a few were listening.

He did not know where Toroko was or if she was anywhere at all. Unlike Igor he had no way of catching her after she fell, but she had been there at the and trying to reach through. It wasn't her spirit or his magic that had failed. Rather it was her body that couldn't take the strain, and he simply didn't have enough left to both funnel the corruption and keep her body going. Maybe if Ainsley hadn't been busy, but even with the potion he gave her King had been so close to gone it had taken everything the woman had.

He would have to find some way to properly thank her. If he was the only mage there they wouldn't even have that slim victory.

Yet they still failed. This 'Doctor' had gotten away with enough seeds to turn all of the mimiga into what Toroko had been; feral bestial soldiers that knew only rage and bloodlust. He would need to grow and learn if he would have any chance at saving them. Maybe they could find where the flowers would be grown, since if it was him he would not randomly throw seeds to the winds and hope.

Hopefully Jinka would be able to provide answers. He was tired of going blind and stumbling ahead. What he needed was knowledge, and that woman was far more than she seemed. If nothing else it would give him some insight into the bone constructs that had completely baffled him. They were likely to find more of those things, or things much like them, and if he could break through without wasting so much magic he had nothing for those that needed saving.
