Profile

Yumi Musumi was nothing more than a simple student and gamer who dabbled in a bit of everything. After a near fatal car accident, Yumi's Planeswalker's Spark ignited. This spark was a previously-unknown inborn talent that granted her phenomenal cosmic power, and, unfortunately, very little information on how to use it, and use it well. As a Planeswalker and latent mage, Yumi found that one of her favorite card games from her home Earth functions with her power, allowing her to conjure anything from armies to master warriors to lay waste to her enemies, but only if she plays by the rules. Unfortunately, her reliance on the game and its rules and requirements, combined with her own lack of combat skill, will make survival an interesting ride. When she's not dealing with that, Yumi enjoys being around others and exploring; however, her tendency to just plunge headlong into things is sure to get her into trouble, or a claustrophobic situation she can't escape.

RULEBOUND: Yumi's ritualized method of casting spells through trading cards requires her to observe all the rules she would normally have to to play the game. In addition to requiring a legal deck, Yumi has to go through all the motions of playing a normal game for anything to work, even in the midst of combat. If she wants to cast a spell she's drawn from her deck, she has to cast it during the right part of her turn and have the mana to use it. Similarly, she has to have garnered an appropriate reaction from an opponent to take another turn, effectively making it all but impossible to use her abilities from a position of surprise or to use them unhindered. Should she render a foe unable to act through any means available to her by means of her deck short of actually defeating them, she may continue to act as normal; similarly, if someone deliberately allows her time to build up, a reaction is unnecessary to continue.

SPECIALIZED FOCI: While Yumi does possess the capacity to learn magic normally and to become a powerful mage to boot, her total reliance on her deck means that without it, she is effectively helpless. Removing it from her before she can begin using it is a perfectly reasonable method of stopping her before she becomes a problem. Until she learns a more traditional method of casting all the spells theoretically available to her via her decks, her reliance on them as a crutch will surely continue.

MANA DEPENDENCY: Yumi's spellcasting ability relies heavily on the use of mana to function. Spells are grouped according to the color of associated mana needed to cast them, with each color having a particular environment its found in. If Yumi finds herself casting spells of the wrong type in the wrong environment -- say, fighting someone in a forest while attempting to draw blue mana, normally found around islands -- she can be at a significant disadvantage. Certain objects (artifacts) can generate a small amount of mana outside the appropriate environments or alter the color to suit her needs, though they're almost never enough to wholly negate a bad choice of battlefield.

COMBAT PROFICIENCY: Or lack thereof. While Yumi is very good at running away, without her deck, Yumi is nothing more than a human with no combat training whatsoever.

CLAUSTROPHOBIC: Due to the incident that ignited Yumi's Planeswalker's Spark, she has become claustrophobic, having a fear of not being able to escape being enclosed in small spaces or rooms. As such, Yumi will always avoid fighting in locations that can cause this anxiety to flare up, and were she ever caught in an inescapable room without the mana to Planeswalk out of it, she would panic.
