Properly Dressing a Paranormal Detective
Date of Scene: 29 January 2015
Location: Tomoeda-865
Synopsis: Psyber swings by Tomoyo's Boutique to commission an outfit.
Cast of Characters: 253, Tomoyo Daidouji

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
It snowed overnight in Tomoeda, and what remains in the daylight is gradually melting into slush. While this makes things slippery and cold (the latter not helped by the sunless, overcast sky), it does bear evidence of something.

Outside Tomoyo's Boutique, the footpath is grimier, with multiple sets of footprints going in and out of the store. It seems that business really has picked up of late. A 'Welcome' matt has been set just in front of the door, which bears a sign asking to please wipe your feet.

Inside, it is thankfully warm, and the shelves are looking a little more bare than usual, materials that once stood on them being take off to go into outfits. Yamazaki is behind the counter today, scribbling away at a notebook.

Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber had made an appointment to get fitted for some new clothes, but his and Tomoyo's schedule had been conflicting, so it took him the better part of a week to finally get in and see the seamstress. But here he was.

As he steps into the shop and looks around, he adjusts the heavy coat he's wearing and pulls a scarf off from around his neck, "Huh. Your weather is not too different from Boston over here, I guess," He comments idly to Yamazaki, peering at the sights.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
The young man looks up from his notes and gives a genteel smile. "Ah, welcome to Tomoyo's Boutique sir!" He digs out a clipboard from underneath the counter and consults it. "You must be... Psyber, yes? Hold on, I'll fetch Tomoyo."

He starts up the stairs behind the counter, and soon, two pairs of feet start descending. Tomoyo arrives, looking a little bedraggled, but smiling brightly. "Hello! Psyber, yes~? It's good to meet you in person!" She comes over to the counter and offers her hand to shake.

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Excellent to finally meet you, Miss Daidouji," Psyber says, extending his hand towards the girl. He feels like a giant compared to her, but he feels that way compared to most people due to his size. After gripping her hand for a few moments, he releases it and then lets his hands fall into his pockets.

"I saw your products on television and wished to see what you could do for my wardrobe. Sadly I am no fashion afficionado. I mostly stick to jeans, coats and t-shirts." He indicates his own clothing, which is exactly that.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Despite the obvious disparity in height, Tomoyo does her best in the handshake, squeezing as hard as she can to make it a firm one. Listening closely, she runs a critical eye over Psyber and his wardrobe. "Hmm... not to worry~! I've had a lot of customers who are the same way. A good tailor should be able to make anyone look good with minimal input from them."

She takes a sketchbook from under the counter and flips to a fresh page, drawing a very tall male figure on it. Extracting a pencil from her apron, she taps the tip against the paper, mulling over the situation. "You're a detective right? I've always been an aficionado for traditional detective noir outfits~ How about you?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Oh, I do love that era. It was one of my favorites to live through," Psyber says cheerily, nodding his head to Tomoyo, "I don't get to wear suits much, but I do enjoy the style and fashion from that era."

"I'd need durability, concealing weapons, and freedom of movement. I take a lot of abuse and move around a lot in fights," Psyber adds, trying to give Tomoyo whatever minor feedback he can. He doesn't know much about fashion, but he does know the kind of abuse he puts his clothes through, and she deserves fair warning.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Oh wow, you were there? That's so amazing..." Tomoyo murmurs, lost in thought for a moment. But, when Psyber starts offering what he needs in an outfit, she nods! "Ah yes, that kind of thing does help! Hmm, let's see..."

She begins drawing something onto the figure... a trenchcoat? "Now, I know these kinds of things aren't exactly suited for acrobatic feats of derring-do, but bear with me~" Around the hips, she starts making annotations, talking about Velcro or snap fasteners. "Here's what I'm thinking~ The lower half of the coat, everything that would hang around the legs, is removable in a way that can be done in the middle of combat, so it won't get in the way~"

Next, she does a quick sketch of what the inside of the coat would look like. A myriad of straps, pouches and pockets that would not be obvious from the outside, both in the top and bottom half. The bottom half could be treated as a separate, detachable field kit. But when attached, it's straps line up with the straps in the top half, allowing for potential concealment of an assembled rifle if need be.

In addition, she makes some notes around the sleeves for a spring-loaded holster. "I always loved when guns were concealed in sleeves and were drawn with a flick of the wrist~ I'll see if I can incorporate a holster that can let you do that!"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"I like the duster," Psyber says with a definite tone of approval, "I already wear one frequently anyway, so getting another is not out of the question," He looks over at her and nods his head a few times, inspecting the sketching, "I like those interior holding designs."

He watches her sketch out the work, noting the straps and pouches, "And the sleeve holsters work well too, definitely. Though if it were on a spring, wouldn't that risk being damaged if I got hit in the arm?" He wonders.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Hmm..." Tomoyo rubs her chin as she considers the issue Psyber raised. "That is a good point... I can try to modify the holsters so that they can be manually pulled out, in case the mechanism breaks~" She makes a note of that, before going to the next page and drawing more figures.

"Here's what I had for what you'll wear under it~" She begins drawing a long-sleeved button shirt with folded collar and buttoned cuffs. On top, she adds a buttoned waistcoat. For the pants, she draws some rather plain formal trousers, held up by a belt. They seem to be a little looser than typical, for more freedom of movement. "Now, for this waistcoat, I can do one of two things~ I can add more straps and holsters for concealed weapons, or I can make it protective. Either some very thin ceramics, or if you want to go a little pricier, overlapping circles of mythril~ What do you think?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Not bad thinking," Psyber says as he watches her make notes and draw more figures. He doesn't have much complaint with a manual release if the spring gets broken, plus it's well-designed backup on her part.

He looks at the button-up shirt with a folded collar, "Business casual, I like the feel of it. Professional, but relaxed." There's a faint 'hmmm' as he thinks over the options she gave him, "I'm willing to pay more for the circles of mythril for added protection. I will take that over more spots for guns, I think."

"Can I get the belt in full leather instead of leather-wrapped fabric?" He asks curiously.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Of course!" Tomoyo makes the note to make the belt out of full leather. As a last touch, she draws some shoes onto the figure. Black leather, but with high-performance soles so they're good for running. Also, a clip-on tie. "Completes the look without being a liability in a fight~" she explains.

"Okay! Now, colors. White for the shirt, black for the coat, red for the tie and gray for the pants. But I was thinking, for the coat, pinstripes that match your hair~ Would you rather have red with black pinstripes, or black with red pinstripes~?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
Tomoyo is just so ahead of the curve that she's making Psyber's suggestions seem easy. And in some cases, she's pre-empting whatever other requests he might have. As she asks him about colors, she nails his fashion sense almost perfectly, picking up on his love of reds and blacks, "Yes. Red and black work perfectly. I would prefer black with red pinstripes, personally. You are quite intuitive in your craft."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Black with red it is~ Thank you for the compliment, by the way. A good tailor has to have a good eye for what someone looks good in, as well as an understanding of what they would like!" Tomoyo says as she adds the last few notes.

"Okay! Now that we have that sorted, we need to get you measured. Yamazaki here will be the one doing it..." She looks up at Psyber and giggles. "Though, he might need something to stand on."

Yamazaki does, in fact, produce a small stool from under the counter and starts leading Psyber to the dressing rooms, when Tomoyo says something. "Oh! One more thing. Do you want a fedora too~? I hear that they have kind of a bad reputation these days, so I understand if the answer is no."

Psyber (253) has posed:
"I'll pass on a Fedora," Psyber says as he is lead to the dressing rooms. He doesn't seem to object too much to being led off for measurements, and even gives a faint laugh at the comment about needing a stool to stand on, "This has been relatively quick and painless. After getting measured, how long will it take you? I'll understand if you are backlogged."

"Oh, and I brought my checkbook with me today, but I can pay in cash if you need as well."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
"Oh, no need to pay now~ I'll only accept payment if the customer is satisfied when they receive the outfit!" Tomoyo declares as Yamazaki closes the dressing room curtain, extracting a tape measure from his apron pocket. Standing up on the stool, he gets to work!
