Synopsis: Gaius knows something is up between Sanary and Yari and their possible future. He decides to use a spar as means to satisfy his concerns and perhaps drive home some wisdom.
Cast of Characters: 522, Sanary Rondel

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius has been meaning to spar Sanary, as she has requested to face off with the Garlean Commander. While Yari has been spending much time with the blind healer, the Legatus has yet to know much about the woman, beyond the fact she was under employment and wielded an axe.

The Legatus was standing on the platform to the training holographic area, for the moment it was offline and he was fully in his armor. The dark armor seeming to just absorb the light, with the deep red crimson leather-like cloth covered locations where the armor did not. In his hand was already the Heirsbane with the tip of the blade pointed to the ground.

While he could face her without the armor to make this a more even match, he wanted to see Sanary's true strength and see just what training has been given to her, including if anything he could perhaps correct on. Weather she realized it our not, she was about to be judged.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
When was the last time Sanary actually sparred with anyone? There was her training with Yari, but facing the same person multiple times meant becoming more used to their own tells. If Sanary wants to improve her fighting ability, what she really needs to do is find new opponents.

And so, she's coming to the Legatus today with her usual tomahawk in tow. She doesn't look all that confident as she arrives at the platforms, although she certainly seems to be as ready as she'll ever be. She's fed, she's got energy, she's awake, and she's even reaching the training area without walking into a single person.

"Gaius? Are you here?" She hums quietly as she debates putting some energy into the eye, but... Well, there's no sense using that for training. Not unless it's actually needed for improvement..

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
"Greetings Sanary." The Legatus speaks out to her, she may tell he is easily in his armor by the reverb of his voice. "I am glad you could come." The Legatus then steps back and a bit away. "Please step onto the training pad fully so we may begin the spar."

"I will warn you however, that I have no plans on going lightly, given that neither of us can kill one another. I would suggest you put everything you have into this match." He says calmly as he slowly turns to face her once more.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Grinning at the response, Sanary brings her hand up in a relaxed salute as she follows him onto the training pad. She detaches the tomahawk from her rope belt and touches a finger to the edge briefly, satisfied at the weapon's sharpness despite its age. "Glad you got time for this. I've been meaning to see how your stuff works directly instead."

The dramatically reduced risk of dying is certainly reassuring as he speaks, the grin on the girl's face widening slowly over time. "Never planned on taking you lightly. I didn't get here because I hold back or anything like that." She moves her axe-holding arm (the right) in a wide arc before hunching over slightly in a fighting stance. "Ready when you are!"

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
There was a flicker in the room as Gaius activates something with a motion of his hand, as Sanary moves herself into a ready stance for a combat. "Very well." The area outside of the training pad seems to vanish, leaving them in a rather large open space that becomes an open field.

With a slight lowering of his head, he judges the young woman, before he dashes toward her moving at near inhuman speeds. There is a quick side step as he nearly comes up on her, moving himself around her. Then with a twist of his metal boot against the grass, he moves himself around with that speed and slashes his blade in an upward arch for her.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
It's time to put Yari's training to good use! Bracing her feet against the ground in preparation to intercept Gaius' attack with one of her own, Sanary rears her arm back and waits for the just the right moment to strike back.

Oh right. Defending herself is significantly harder without using her eye. Taking the swing with her forward arm, the healer grits her teeth at the sharp pain in that arm at the clean slice. Biting back a string of muttered curses, she uses that to fuel her own downward chop at the Legatus, trying to use the closed distance between them to her advantage.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
As Sanary brings down her axe, the Legatus moves himself with ease with a quick step back, turn and then parry of the Tomahawk's blade. It impacts the Heirsbane, but the blade does not budge. "Mistake one." The Legatus steps in and shoves he weapon to the side with his own strength and size. "You left yourself open and off balance."

Once he shoves the weapon aside, his free hand extends in with the palm actually strikes for her chest, to clearly knock her back and perhaps even knock the very wind out of her. "Always keep your center of balance so it is hard for your enemy to exploit you."

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Recoiling from having her swing so easily, Sanary barely has enough time to get her own response out before coughing painfully at getting hit square in the chest. She staggers back a few feet before righting herself, taking a moment to steady her breathing even as the adrenaline starts to course through her.

"R-right. Nn... Can't fight here like I did back home. Everyone's so freaking fast here...!" Although she sounds somewhat frustrated about that, there's still a wide grin on the axe healer's face as she shakes off the injured arm. It's... Well, it's still injured from the earlier cut, but she's not paying it too much mind. She can go all out, after all!

Her strategy does change somewhat with her next swing, at least, aiming for a more careful swing while advancing towards Gaius instead of just trying to put her weight into it again.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
The Legatus quickly moves himself around, this time he extends out his open hand to actually /catch/ the blade. It slams against the armored part of the gauntlet, cutting the metal, before he moves his hand around to grasp the weapon. The cut is easy to see against the top surface of the metal, but his strength is even slightly inhuman as he holds on.

"Better." He says gently, before with a grunt, he then shoves the axe's butt at her to try and throw her off balance once more. If she was quick she could easily brace herself for it, however it is what comes next she has to be even faster.

For once the Legatus goes to push her back, he then goes to yank her suddenly forward, as he steps in with The gunblade at ready and then jabs the blade forward for her shoulder area, making an impaling strike with the blade, before twisting it slightly if it lands.

It is a very good thing that this was a simulation, even if everything felt ever so real.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary grunts in satisfaction at actually making contact with that swing, although it's short-lived as the axe is promptly shoved back at her. Her reflexes aren't all that great, but her own strength is still enough to keep that shove from knocking her over outright.

Then again, getting knocked over could very well be preferable to what happens next. Her instinct is to hold onto the axe instead of letting it go, of course, setting up for the pull afterwards. She exhales sharply through her teeth at the pain from the blade jammed into her shoulder, even crying out at that twist at the end.

"Frghn... D-dick!" The confident grin fading into a more focused and significantly angrier glare, Sanary rears her non-stabbed arm back before thrusting her fist out in a straight punch towards his... Armored face. Great idea.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Sanary cries in pain and the Legatus only lowers his head gently. He quickly with draws his blade from her arm, which allows her to move in for another attack. Though he tsks softly at her display of anger. "Emotions," He says as she swings her punch. "Should not blind your thoughts."

Her punch comes in close, but Gaius grabs it with his own hand, stopping it dead in its tracks. There was at least a satisfying impact into the leather of the glove, but it was probably not where Sanary wanted her hand. "Should not cloud your perception of battle."

Unless Sanary acts fast, his own hand will start to squeeze down on hers, those metal finger tips digging into her skin. "While Emotions can make someone stronger, they should not be what leads you into battle... or you make mistakes like this." His hand will then attempt to fully clamp down, before shoving her back.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Alright. So maybe trying to rely entirely on blind-fighting isn't such a great idea. Sanary's landed maybe... Two actual hits on the Legatus so far? Definitely far fewer than she was hoping for at the start. Still gritting her teeth as he speaks, she does manage a slow nod after a few agonizing moments of having her hand crushed.

Staggering back as she shoves her, she doesn't come in for another attack this time around as she takes the moment to calm her breathing and let the pain in her everything subside. "Right... Y-yeah. Okay. Gonna try something, but.. I get you." There's a pained laugh mixed in all of that at the rather obvious wound in her shoulder, although she does seem to be handling it fairly well.

The adrenaline definitely helps. Taking another long breath as she starts channelling a steady stream of energy into her eye, there's a faint glint in that eye before she returns to that hunched over stance from earlier. Gaius might even be able to notice the slight sheen to the eye in closer quarters!

"Alright. I'm good. Let's keep going."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
The Legatus lets Sanary collect herself and notes the sheen, but he doesn't move in closer. Instead he shifts his weight before he actually leaps back and flips in mid air. Then his left arm is aimed directly at her. There was a flicker of blue in his Gauntlet before three blue plasma bursts irrupt out from the Gauntlet.

As they stream in for Sanary, they will explode on contact with her or the ground around her, blasting out blue flames of plasma all around her and the grassy floor. He lands down with a bit of a slide backwards. It is also an opening for her, if she can exploit it fast enough.

Perhaps he intentionally gave her one? Or was it a setup?

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Even with the aid of the eye, Sanary still isn't quite fast enough to avoid the Legatus' volley. Seh makes an attempt to avoid the bursts at first before just bringing her already-injured arm up to take the brunt of the explosions instead, pained shouts escaping her as the damage continues to build up.

"Mm... Y-yeah, definitely need more practice. But don't count me out yet!" The opening does not go ignored as the girl ducks down slightly, channeling even more energy into her eye. Instead of trying to heal herself with all that energy, she instead stares straight at Gaius before firing a laser from that eye. Whether it makes contact with him or something far behind him, there's definitely going to be some sort of explosion somewhere.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
As his feet slide back and he glances up he catches the glint from the eye, "...Magitek eye?" Is all he simply asks, before he attempts to raise up a shield to protect himself from the laser. However perhaps being caught a bit off guard and by the fact not enough time, Sanary lands her mark at last!

The beam impacts the heavy armor and cuts into the leather-like material, while resistant, it does get to the skin, burning it slightly and taking a bite out of his armor. The explosive force is enough to flip the Legatus back, though as he impacts the ground, he swiftly rolls back up to his feet in a three prong stance.

Gaius glances up and then with no hesitation moves, his feet shoving off the ground as he then levels then gunblade at her. There would be spark of blue from the barrel of the Gunblade before several bullets launch right for her, though he does not simply fire, instead as the bullets come in, he shifts his weight and runs toward her to follow up the shots with a swing of his gunblade, before turning himself around and doing a close quarter shot of the weapon.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
A slight smirk returns to the axe-fighters face as Sanary confirms the hit, brushing a stray hair out of her eye as she gets back up and readies herself for the next assault. "Maybe. But it works! /And/ I've still got all of my organs."

She sounds just a little too proud about that last part. Still, being able to see through the Magitek eye doesn't do much for her ability to actually avoid what's coming next. She's practically getting bounced around and knocked back further with each successive hit, the bullets digging into the same injured arm that she's favoring for defense instead of her good arm. The gunblade swing puts a sizable gash in her chest, meanwhile, and the next shot...

Well, she's still breathing somehow. And standing! Barely, but still. Her legs are still functioning along with her non-obliterated arm, and she's practically running on fumes as she starts moving towards the Legatus again. She lunges towards him with surprising (for her) speed, but stops abruptly as she points behind him instead.

"Uh... The hell is that?" Time for her secret technique! She waits a moment to try and actually get the Legatus to drop his guard before lunging forward again and just swinging wildly from side to side, then downwards with the last of her strength.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Sadly while Sanary shows deception, it doesn't actually work with the Legatus, either because he knows this trick or because his HUD says so. Either way, when she does come in for the attack, the Garlean Commander moves effortlessly to parry, step and avoid most of the attacks.

It is only when her last swing comes does it collide into his armor, the blade biting into the armor of his arm, he then goes to push back, allowing it to bite in deeper, before he attempts to actually use it's bite against her, by then yanking his arm hard.

This will either remove her axe from her grasp or the blade will cut simply free. She better hope for the latter.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Okay. So maaaybe that didn't work out so well this time around. That technique never really seems to work on Elites in general, on second thought. Were people back home just that much dumber? First that thing with the mobsters, now this...

Not that Sanary can really do much about that at this point. Her instinct to hold onto the axe kicks in again as she's shoved back, pulled forward, and falls straight at the Legatus. Thankfully, the axe head snaps right off at just the right time for her to narrowly avoid smashing her face into his chest plate.

Unluckily for her, though, her face is instead on a direct collision course for the ground. Still, better than armor.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius side steps as Sanary goes flat on her face and just, looks down at her, before tilting his head faintly and then pulling out the axe blade before tossing it aside. That helm of his head hides any thought he may be having, but at least he isn't taking advantage of her. Instead he simply steps away, flourishing the Heirsbane as he walks.

"Your weapon is simply that, a weapon. It can be repaired and it can be made anew. Your life however..." He turns to face Sanary. "As it is right now, you and Yari, you are a weaker than she is and unless you can become stronger, tactically aware, are a threat to her survival and focus."

The Legatus then points the tip of his blade at Sanary. "Use your head with your instinct, but judge swiftly the proper action. If I was not here to teach and judge, I would simply have placed a bullet in your head, for that is the second time you should have released your weapon."

Sanary Rondel has posed:
There's an odd noise coming from Sanary as she stays on the ground for the time being, mixed frustration and anger apparent just from the low rumbling noise. She pushes herself up slowly with her mostly-good fist, falling back on her ass once she's up enough to not fall back on her face again.

"Dammit.. Dammit! Still not good enough to..." Gritting her teeth as she forces down the pain, she leans over slightly to try and push herself up with the other arm before falling over from the lack of strength and immense pain in what's left of that arm. She cries out painfully with yet more frustration at that, eventually just settling with staying on her back whiel staring at the blade.

"Yeah... Yeah, I know. I gotta... I need to get stronger and better than this. This is just pathetic." She still sound quite angry even as she brings her good arm up to rub her temples, that sheen from earlier gone from the eye as the flow of energy stops. "Can't let Yari or anyone get hurt just because of this. Freaking... Shit."

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius exhales gently before he waves out his arm, shortly after the room starts to go back to normal, the Tomahawk back together again and the damage on Sanary vanishes, though it will take a bit for the feeling of the impacts to vanish.

The Legatus walks over to her, holstering the gunblade to his backside, before extending down his hand to her. "You are still a rough stone that needs polishing out. One day, with the proper training, you could become an excellent warrior."

"Though as you and Yari stand, that is for the two of you to work out. You are still very rough and she has to learn how to place her duties before all else. You both have much time to learn and you are both still full of life." Gaius says calmly and once she is up on her feet, he goes to step away.

"If you ever need to speak with someone Sanary, for advice in private. My door is open to you. I may as well put this knowledge I have gained over my years of a long career to use, so that others younger then I do not make the same mistakes I did." The Legatus then starts to make his way out.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary doesn't get up immediately as she readjusts to the feeling of her body not being a complete mess, although she take the Legatus' hand before too long. "I've been told... Gonna need a lot of polishing if this is any sign." She laughs somewhat bitterly at that, barely even managing to keep her gaze level with his neck at this point.

"Focusing, then? Mm... Yeah. Definitely need to work on all of that. Without the eye, if I can, but...Ergh." She's definitely troubled by all of this as she casts her gaze downwards next, not moving from her spot even as Gaius starts to move.

The healer doesn't respond immediately even as he starts to leave, although her face does break into a slight grin once she finally looks back up. "Thanks, Gaius. I'll have to take you up on that some time." She even breaks into a grateful smile a few moments later despite not knowing if he's even facing her at that point any more.

Gaius Van Baelsar (522) has posed:
Gaius pauses in his steps and looks over his shoulder to her. His voice was softly warm as he speaks, "You're Welcome Sanary..." He then looks away and fully heads out the door.
