Cast of Characters: 112, 281

Rider (281) has posed:
It's the weekend, which means the possibility of free time. And Rider's Master -did- owe her a few 'adventures' from that guessing game they played some time ago. Oddly enough, though, the Servant requested that Mikase wear her school uniform. 'To blend in,' was the reason given, without much more explanation. And yet, Rider is in her normal clothes, not even casual civilian wear.

As they approach the transfer gates, Rider glances back up at her Master. "By the way... it's mostly safe in there, Mikase, but you should make sure to just call me Rider. At least unless we're sure there's nobody around to hear." She pauses for a moment in thought. "I'll make sure to explain all this once we're there."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
It's true that Mikase did promise 'adventures' all that time ago. Perhaps part of her had been hoping Rider would forget about such a silly thing, though she knew ultimately that a pirate never forgets what's owed to them. Besides, it's the weekend, and learning a little more about the war she'd involved herself in could be invaluable, right?

Thus we find Mikase Yamato in her school uniform, as requested, hands folded behind her back. "I still don't see how you could call this camouflage," the tall Japanese remarks. She lets out a little sigh, lifting her eyes to the gate, "I remember, Rider. Because your real identity might be used against you somehow."

"This isn't going to be one of those 'not meant for mortal minds' things, is it?"

Rider (281) has posed:
It's possible that Rider has not actually kept track of how many adventures are owed her and she just keeps using it as an excuse to drag Mikase out to have fun, and may continue to do so until called on it.

"You'll see when we get there. Wish I had -that- uniform, but..." She doesn't explain herself, though she does pause as she reaches for the gate. "Well, yes. Especially there." She gives her Master an enigmatic grin, one hand falling to her hip. "Probably is, but I'm told that the brain automatically compensates. I was a bit worried about bringing you there, but if people can go inside places like those online videogames, then this should be no different. C'mon." Unless she's immediately followed, Rider will reach back to grab Mikase's hand to tug her through...

...and into what looks like a perfectly normal Japanese high school. There are a few people here and there without uniforms, and they really stand out, but most are wearing the same thing. "I'm gonna disappear so we don't get stared at. I'm supposed to be dead, after all." As her corporeal form fades away, Rider's voice is still audible, "Head inside and to the second floor. It should still be there."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
"Uniforms are generic enough--" Mikase starts, though the line of conversation shifts to possibly brain breaking territory. The girl recoils slightly, "Wait, 'probably' doesn't inspire much confidence..! Are you sure this is alright?" It takes grabbing her hand and yanking her to get her to pass the gate, with a shriek of objection and too much surprise to resist the Servant.

When she finds herself in a school courtyard, mid-objection, Mikase freezes in a braced pose meant to keep herself from falling over. Slowly, she scans from side to side with just her eyes. It takes a moment for the girl to straighten herself and cough into her hand, as if nothing happened.

"Don't freak me out like that," she hisses under her breath to the disembodied voice of her Servant. With a noise of surrender, the tall Japanese crosses the yard with her hands folded behind her back, standing out in her own way by wearing a different uniform. And also being kind of crazy tall by most world standards.

Pushing the doors open, she instinctively moves to a locker, then pauses. Realizing she doesn't have indoor shoes here, the girl simply proceeds on, "Upstairs, right?"

Rider (281) has posed:
"I was -mostly- certain it was safe. Almost completely." The sound of amused laughter comes from Mikase's side, "Sorry, sorry. But you have to admit, you did make a really cute noise when I dragged you through!"

One thing to note as they walk is that several of the 'students' here seem to be talking to the air, and others have their focus on something that's not there. "They're all Masters. Just like you can hear me, they're the only ones who can hear their Servants like this." A soft hum sounds from the Servant. "Don't worry, though. Fighting in the halls is forbidden, so we're perfectly safe." She pauses. "Unless someone breaks the rules, but then they'll be punished."

Despite not being physically there, there's an almost tangible presence nearby, as if Rider is sticking near to her Master. "Upstairs to the second floor. Go left, then the second room. It looks like a classroom but it's not." The feeling of Rider's presence sticks close to Mikase, seeming to close the distance even more when other students walk by. It isn't until the indicated door is opened that Rider materializes again, stepping into the room. "Ahh... just like I left it."

The room seems decorated like a captain's cabin, though everything seems to be made by pushing together desks and chairs. It's definitely a classroom that's been repurposed, but somehow it... works. "Have a seat. Bed should be soft, and there are a few cushioned chairs around." The so-called bed seems to be a bunch of desks pushed together with a thin mattress on top.

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
"So basically," Mikase's eyes wander as she travels through the school, "I'm surrounded by enemies on all sides, held at bay only by a supposed peace agreement." Her eyes narrow, "I'll have to be very careful, here..."

Inwardly she reaches out. When the spirit of the Yamato responds, the girl relaxes just a little. If she can still transform, than anyone who breaks the rules is in for a forty-six centimeter surprise, and that puts Mikase's mind at ease.

    Upstairs. Left. Second room.

In the door, Mikase pauses, glancing about the odd decoration choices. Once Rider reappears, she steps in further and shuts the door, "When you said you had a room in the Moon Cell, I was expecting a futuristic apartment or something. Not a ... classroom crash pad." Turning back towards the Servant, she asks, "Is this where you go when I can't feel you? Or do you just go out and carouse?"

Rider (281) has posed:
"That about sums it up. The penalty for breaking the rules is pretty harsh, though. Not many are willing to risk losing their lives that way." The way Rider says it is so nonchalant, too.

"Heh. It's all we had, really. Gotta make the most of it." She drops down on a seat made of two chairs pushed together and kicks up her feet to rest on another one. "Mmm... usually I'm out carousing, honestly. I haven't been back here since... a while." Rider gestures vaguely at the bed and the chairs nearby for her Master to have a seat herself. "I thought I should finally be honest with you about... well, everything. I've been feeling kinda bad for hiding things from you, and I figured you knowing my past would help explain it better."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
"I'm not surprised," Mikase mutters flatly in response to Rider's recreational habits. "Come to think of it, you seemed nostalgic, so I should've picked up that you hadn't been here in a while." She also files that other bit of information away. So breaking the rules is basically a death sentence. That's both reassuring...and not.

When one is tall, the chance to dangle legs does not happen often. And so Mikase's final choice of seating is the desk-bed, where she can let her legs hang for entirely selfish and childish reasons she won't get into. Hands resting on either side of her hips, she shrugs lightly, "I'd assumed you'd tell me when you were ready. I didn't think you were /hiding/ things from me."

Giving her legs a kick, Mikase adds, "Least of all your past. I've gotten the impression that this is a pretty depressing business and you don't seem the sort to dwell on that sort of thing."

Rider (281) has posed:
There's something about the way such a tall girl sits so her legs dangle that Rider finds endearing. She doesn't bring it up, but she does give Mikase a smile as she sees the choice of perch.

"Well... not hiding to hide things. Just never thought they were important." Rider gestures vaguely, then lowers her gaze a bit. "But, well... I like you, Mikase. I don't want something to happen to you because you didn't know something important." She gives a soft laugh. "I -hate- dwelling on the past, but... things happen, you know?" She takes a breath. "Since you're actually you, and not someone connected through the Moon Cell, I don't know if the same rules apply to you. It's why I held off telling you. But you should know how this works."

Rider's lips press together, and she's silent for a moment, looking out into nowhere in thought. Finally, she opens her mouth, "If a Servant of the Moon Cell dies, their Master also dies."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
Mikase listens intently to what is very clearly important. She knows Rider well enough to know the pirate wouldn't be this serious over something trivial. Even many serious things get played around with and teased rather than just outright stated, when this redhead is involved.

When the bomb drops, there's a very visible reaction in Mikase's posture even though she doesn't make any sort of sound. She goes still, looking down towards her knees in thought. So that's how it is... But then, is it really such a surprise?

"I don't care about that," Mikase states after a moment, "In any situation where you would be killed, I'd already be dead anyway. Remember that I swore a promise of protection, Rider." Glancing over towards the pirate ghost, she adds, "That includes you."

Rider (281) has posed:
Rider opens her mouth and looks at Mikase. Her mouth closes, and she considers for a moment. Again, her mouth opens, and she lifts her index finger as if to make a point... then closes her mouth again.

And then Rider breaks out laughing, slapping a hand against her thigh. "I knew I liked you, Mikase. That's... you really got me. Thanks." A genuine smile comes to her lips, and she hops to her feet, closing the distance to her Master. "C'mere." Leaning forward, she thros her arms around Mikase and squeezes the girl close in a crushing hug. "An answer like that makes me glad I picked you, y'know?"

After a few moments, Rider finally releases the girl, then hops up onto the bed next to Mikase. "Thanks, I..." She glances down toward their feet. "My first Master here didn't believe that, you know. Thought it was just a game, since it's just in a computer. Heh, we were so sure we'd win, too."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
The stunned silence just intensifies Mikase's resolve, which shows in her determined expression. The laughing catches her off guard, though, "E-ehh? Was is really that funny..?" Though it's explained soon enough and the girl's cheeks pinken, then redden through the hug. She feels like she just said something really embarassing, somehow.

"..Yeah," the tall Japanese murmurs, "We are the company we keep. Maybe I'm picking up some of your sillier traits, or that impulsiveness of yours." With Rider sitting beside her now, Mikase elbows the shorter woman, "Maybe you'll pick up on my responsibility and good habits, but somehow I doubt it."

Things shift to a master before Mikase, and she presumes before the person she 'stole' Rider from. "Was this the one before the Confederate?" There's a sigh, "Thinking you're invincible... Even I know that's a big mistake. Knowing what my powers are and what they come from is both empowering and sobering all at once."

After all, the Yamato was the mightiest battleship of all time--and she sank. Spectacularly.

Rider (281) has posed:
"I'm laughing because I should've known you'd say something like that. And the way you said it, all serious..." She grins up at the girl, then shifts somewhat as her side is nudged. "I'm plenty responsible. I just often choose to ignore the advice my mind gives me sometimes."

A brief nod. "Not the Confederate, right. He... he was probably one of the best Spirit Hackers here in the competition. Most of the others were afraid of him, you know. It wasn't even me. They all said the two of us would come out on top. He made a good villain, to be honest, but despite being smart, he managed to be pretty stupid." She reaches up to rub the back of her head. "...he was just eight. Nobody really knew that except me and the one who beat us, and maybe the overseers."

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
Mikase folds her arms with a little 'hnf' noise, "You don't have to tease me about it. I know I can be predictable." A sidelong glance is given to Rider, "You should probably listen to yourself a little more often, then."

Some more sobering truth. Mikase blinks, then shifts her gaze down towards her knees, "Just eight, huh... So he thought it was a game and got in over his head. And paid for it with his life." Lifting her eyes, she hums to herself, "It's a little sad for such a smart kid, that kind of ending. But I suppose if it wasn't him it'd have been someone else and we wouldn't be having this conversation."

Rider (281) has posed:
"Predictable but still cute," counters Rider, poking her Master's side with a finger. "I'd prefer to think you're my conscience now, Mikase. It's easier that way."

A slow nod. "Yeah. I don't think he really should have ever been involved. Never even grasped the entire situation of the competition. But that's why I wanted to make sure you knew." She offers her Master a soft smile, then covers that with her hands and rubs her face for a moment. "Can't say I completely regret it, not when it leads to the two of us being like this. Still..." The regret in her voice is almost tangible.

Mikase Yamato (112) has posed:
"Don't carry it with you," Mikase says quietly, "You shouldn't feel guilty for someone else's mistakes, no matter how dire the consequences were for them." Lifting an arm, she places it around Rider's shoulders in a more consoling way, her own eyes closed, "You're only responsible for your own actions, it's the same for anyone else."

Glancing aside to the Servant, she adds, "Just like I'll ask you not to regret whatever may happen to me. Okay?" There's a little smile on her face when she leans down a bit to get a better look at Rider's face, "You know me, I'll probably kick the bucket trying to protect one person too many, anyway."

Rider (281) has posed:
"Mmm. You're right." Rider glances up as the arm goes over her shoulders. "Guess I'm just feeling a bit melancholy. Not much like me, is it?" She reaches up to touch the girl's arm, letting out a soft laugh. "Sounds like something I'd say."

As her Master leans down, Rider glances up again and grins. "Don't be silly, Mikase. Like I'd let you get killed while I can help it. I'd be a failure as a Servant."
