Dressing for Tomorrow!
Date of Scene: 30 June 2015
Location: Tomoeda-865
Synopsis: The sibling-from-another-universe duo, James and Sarah Rogers take the Quinjet to Tomoyo's Boutique!
Cast of Characters: Tomoyo Daidouji, 796, 802

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
It's another balmy summer day in Tomoeda, the air thick with the song of cicadas and birds alike. The humidity is so far up the wazoo that they had to engineer a new wazoo with greater capacity for it to be up in.

The local residents, none of whom look terribly 'Elite,' are all in breathable summer clothing, all trying to stay in shade as much as possible, or at least within the reach of stores with air conditioning.

Speaking with stores with air conditioning, Tomoyo's Boutique is open! But the door is firmly shut to keep the heat from creeping in. But, the girl herself is visible inside through the windows, dusting some shelves.

James Rogers (802) has posed:
For a change James is getting to host his sister in his quinjet. When they met up he gave her a mini-tour of the plane before taking off and flying though the appropriate set of warp gates to get to the correct Tokoyo.

"Thanks for coming along Sarah, I realized when I got back from my Earth that I have no wardrobe to speak of and it'll help having someone else's opinion on the styles."

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
"This thing is faster than I am and it was a longer trip than I realized." Sarah admits, she's spending a lot of time looking over the controls and trying to figure them out, "And I have the same problem. Fashion sense wasn't something we bothered with much on the Battleworld, and we didn't really think to pack anything when we left."

She peers out on the cockpit and points at one of the buildings, "There, Isn't that what we're looking for?"

James Rogers (802) has posed:
James nods, "Yeah, that's the shop... but I don't think I can set down the jet right next to it...."

He scans the urban landscape around the shop and sees a parking garage he angles the plane towards which has a large enough free space for the quinjet to land.

"It'd be a bit of a walk but you can carry me there I think pretty quickly instead, Sarah," James observes and then asks, "Would you fly down and negotiate payment with the parking attendent and I'll meet you at street level in a few minutes?"

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah peers at her 'brother' for a moment, "I stopped offering to carry people a long time ago, They usually find it degrading. But okay.. if that's what you want." She smirks a little, then heads to the back of the jet and hits the button to open the ramp. She can shortly be seen flying down to the parking garage's entrance, where she tries to explain to the attendant what's going on, She points up at the Quinjet then to the roof. Then the two gesticulate wildly at each other for a few moments before Sarah finally throws her hands up then hands over a few bills. "If anyone asks, we have three axles. You're clear to land on the roof." There's a note of annoyance in her voice, but it's not directed at James.

James Rogers (802) has posed:
As he lands -- on three separate landing gear, each with its own little axel, James replies with a laugh, on the local broadband radio: "Well, that's good... because it does!"

As he disembarks the plane -- carrying his shield on his back but otherwise unarmed -- he smiles at the plesantness of the atmosphere. He jogs down the stairs fairly quickly and meets up with Sarah.

"Sarah, by carry I mean we grasp wrists and you fly with me dangling... that's a little less degrading then the way you seem to think I meant it!" he finally replies to her parting jibe.

Then, as quickly as he described it the Rogers siblings take to the air and, in moments, land in front of their destination.

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah sets James down right at the door to the Boutique, gently, but with a bit of flair so it looks like he may have dropped out of the sky to anyone inside. Then momentarily lands next to him. She opens the door for James and lets him enter first, but also calls inside, "Hello? We have an appointment?"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo looks out at the door, just in time to see the two descend from the sky! She doesn't seem terribly perturbed by it though, only going to open the door for them. "I know~" she says in response to Sarah. "Welcome to Tomoyo's Boutique!"

The cool air from inside is a welcome relief after the intense humidity. Tomoyo lets the multiversal siblings in before closing the door behind them, going behind the counter to properly serve them. "Again, welcome to both of you~ How can I be of assistance?"

James Rogers (802) has posed:
James, wearing his traditional jacket and boots uniform, says, "I need options other than my uniform for non-combat situations... including dates possibly. I also need something to wear when competing in the WMAT as well," and then turns to Sarah to let her explain her needs as well.

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah looks at James and nods, "Basicly what James said.. except in the unlikely event I enter the WMAT I'd just wear this." She looks Tomoyo over for a moment then sighs, "Or if you just want to tell me I'm a lost cause right now, I completely understand!" She says worriedly

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo puts a thumb to her chin as she examines the two, tilting her head left and right as she mulls over their needs. "Now, do you mean that you want two outfits? Or one that is both casual, and suitable for combat situations?" she asks James to start.

But then her eyes practically snap to stare at Sarah, like a well-oiled machine made to judge her. "Oh don't be silly~" she says, a comforting tone to her voice. "There's no such thing as a 'lost cause,' especially when it comes to fashion! Besides, you look terrific~ I don't need to try that hard to make you look good... ah, but I'm going to anyway~!"

She giggles as she takes out a sketchbook from under the counter and flips it open to two new pages, one for each of the siblings. "Now, is there anything specific you would like? Colors, patterns, symbols, specific kinds of clothing? How about accessories?" She continues to ramble off a whole bunch of different options and variables.

James Rogers (802) has posed:
James unzips his jacket, allows it to fall open showing a plain white undershirt. "I was hoping for two outfits. Something that I can wear out on town or around the house that's both not my uniform and not basic shorts and t-shirt. But I also want to not wear my uniform for the WMAT -- its armored and I don't think it is in the spirit of a martial arts competition. However, I will have my shield with me so it can't clash with that." He unslings the shield and activates its force field so that she can see the dull red glow encompasing a shield that otherwise looks just like Steve Rogers carries. "You can see the colors I normally wear. The WMAT outfit shouldn't clash with the shield... other than that, I'm open for what you think will work as suggestions at least."

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
"I had this nice purple blouse back home..." Sarah says as she thinks, "I wouldn't mind something like that again. But At least two outfits, one casual, one formal, and neither should look like a superhero outfit. However I wouldn't mind a magnetic clip for my shield being worked into the back. Just in case."

She peers curiously at James, "I get the feeling that everyone else there is going to be taking every advantage they can. Why do you want to enter that thing anyway?"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo giggles softly at James and shakes her head. "Oh no, armoured clothing is totally fair~ I know it's called the World Martial Arts Tournament, but anything goes really~ You can bring in weapons, even guns! So armoured clothes should still be okay."

She then quickly adds; "But! The point of that tournament isn't just to win~ If it was just that, it would be a more underground thing. No, you need to show the whole Multiverse how great you are!" She clenches her fists, an excited gleam in her eyes. "You need to capture the hearts and minds of the audience! And... well, your uniform IS very sleek, but it's not very attention-grabbing."

She giggles again, a little apologetically. "I understand if you've changed your mind, but if you want something a little more... vivid for the tournament, I can do that." But, back to the sketchbook! She quickly traces a feminine figure that roughly shares Sarah's proportions with a mechanical pencil she scavenges from her apron. "Purple blouse~? That sounds cute!" She sketches a blouse onto the figure, with short sleeves and a row of buttons down the front. Over the legs, she begins to draw a rather curious woollen skirt, consisting of patterns created from braided strands of wool, looking almost like how a doily would look as a skirt. Thankfully, she also draws a pair of black bicycle shorts under it so that modesty can be preserved despite all the gaps. Lastly is a pair of sneakers, the same purple as the blouse with white soles and laces.

She turns the sketchbook to show Sarah, a smile on her face. "What do you think?"

James Rogers (802) has posed:
"I'm doing it to show everyone I'm here and also to see what other people around are like, Sarah," James explains to his 'sister'. He then nods to Tomoyo, "Yeah, my uniform isn't about being the center of attention. And I know it would be legal to wear it... just feel like its better to go without."

Then, remembering violet hair and nails, James asks Sarah, "Is purple your favorite color actually?" He seems to be making a mental note of that fact.

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah looks the sketch over with a furrowed brow, "Is this the formal outfit?" She asks with a slight blush "If so, I think I like it.. though I'm not entirely sure about the patterened skirt.. not the pattern itself, just because you can see through it." She takes a breath, "I wouldn't mind going with a darker shade of purple either."

She looks to James and nods, "I have a thing for it, yeah." She smiles.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo nods to James, smiling softly. "I understand~ Don't worry, I'll make sure you stand out!" Listening to Sarah, she grins and nods. "A bit too racy for you? Okay~" On the skirt, she makes a quick alteration, so that it is now sewn onto a blank black skirt, keeping her legs hidden while allowing the pattern to stand out. "Is that better?"

But now, she gets started on James' WMAT outfit! Having kept up with the news about their shared heritage, she starts with a hooded cape! The hood is blue, with a pattern of white stars, while the cape itself consists of vertical rows of red and white stripes. It comes with a clasp that goes under the chin for easy removal. To keep with his request to make sure the outfit doesn't clash with his shield, Tomoyo goes with warm colours, starting with a dark red long-sleeved top, with the Avengers symbol in white on the back and a white star over the heart. A pair of black cargo pants, with many pockets and loops for equipment is held up with a white belt, the clasp resembling his shield. Thick brown combat boots are drawn onto the feet, and as a final touch, a pair of tinted goggles are drawn over the eyes.

Then Tomoyo flows from that outfit to James' casual wear! Starting with a ribbed white singlet top, clearly designed to fit his form, followed by a pair of acid-washed blue jeans held up with a brown belt. Running shoes in red, white and blue adorn the feet, and a pair of fingerless black leather gloves go on the hands.

Finishing up, she shows James the two outfits. "What do you think? A striking combo of classical superheroic wear and traditional military garb for the tournament outfit~ And a fitted, rough-and-tumble masculine look for the casual outfit. I'm sure whatever lucky girl you take out on a date in that will love it."

James Rogers (802) has posed:
James looks over both pictures, spending a lot of time examining the caped WMAT outfit and then glancing back to it a couple of times while looking at the casual wear. "I've never worn a cape so... it would just be for show and removed before the fighting started...."

He then points at the belt in the first picture and the shoes in the second. "I love those details though." He ponders the caped picture again and says, "No, I can't see myself wearing a cape. Think of the risks intailed with it." He sounds apologetic as he says this. "The rest of it though is great... maybe you can combine the elements into the top for that outfit?"

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah seems suddenly self-conscious about her half-cloak and removes it. "I gotta be honest, I've had to have this thing replaced a few times. It's a great look but not all that practical when you're fighting." She says knowingly. "Anyway, Yes the filled in Skirt makes me feel a lot better about teh outfit. Thank you!"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo nods at James's concerns, though she does look a little bummed out. "I understand. I just think capes are really cool." She erases it from the sketch, and instead draws in some epaulettes like one would see on dress military wear. The tassels alternate between red and white, while the solid part is blue with white stars. "Better~?"

Now, she begins to draw Sarah's casual wear. Starting with a black top with a bolt of lightning illuminating a dark, cloudy sky going down the chest diagonally. An acid-washed denim vest goes on top of it. Along with that, there is a denim knee-length skirt, held up by a brown belt with gold studs and clasp. A pair of brown, knee-length cowgirl-style boots are drawn on the feet, with a low wedge heel .

She flips the book around to show the superheroine the casual look with a smile. "Thoughts~?"

James Rogers (802) has posed:
James smiles and nods. "Its definately a different look for me," he says and then, with a glance to Sarah, "Harkens to father's background as a soldier."

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah nods to James, "I never got to see Pop's formal dress uniform.. I wonder if we could coax the one we know here into showing it off?" She muses. Glancing back at Tomoyo's sketchbook she audibly goes "Ooooohhh!" As a wide grin appears on her face, "That absolutely Rocks!" She says excitedly. There is a tiny note of worry in her face for just a moment, but she doesn't mention that she's never walked in heels before. But these are low, so it should be fine right? "Maybe a little lighting arcing in the clouds too. If it doesn't make it look too busy?" She suggests, "But if I got exactly what you've drawn there I'd have no complaints!"

James Rogers (802) has posed:
As Tomoye and his sister continue discussing Sarah's outfits, James smiles and finds a chair to sit in off to the side, having expressed his appreciation in the designs and being satisfied with just observing for the time being.

(OOC: James is fading out of the scene due to RL need for bed, Sarah has been given permission to pose him out of the shop along with her in the wrap of the scene.)

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo smiles and nods to James. Another satisfied customer! Turning back to Sarah, she nods to her request, and adds some flickers and sparks of lightning to the shirt, lighting up the night at other points.

But, Tomoyo is a perceptive girl, and that brief look of concern on Sarah's face doesn't escape her. "What is it?" she asks, a look on interest and concern on her face. Her outfits must be perfect, after all!

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
"Nothing!" Sarah says defensively, "The outfit's perfect!" It sounds more life she's reassuring herself rather than Tomoyo. She finds a place to sit down, then takes a deep breath, fidgets with her cloak and grimaces, "I just never wore heels before..." She murmurs finally.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo catches that defensive tone, and fixes Sarah with... well, not a /hard/ stare. Tomoyo doesn't look the sort to do anything that could be called 'stern' or 'serious.' It's more of a compassionate, insistent look, like she would understand no matter what Sarah said.

And indeed, an understanding look appears on her face when Sarah confesses. "Aw, I understand! Heels can be a little scary, so I understand if you don't want them. But you can't start any smaller than these ones!" She taps the boots on the page.

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah lets out a sigh, "I'm not scared... not really. Just embarrased. I grew up a Tomboy, *and* on another planet. There's a lot of stuff like this I just never learned." She pauses and swallows, "Could you maybe show me how to walk in heels sometime? Even if they are the Gimp heels." She says with a nervous laugh.

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo listens, a sympathetic look on her face as Sarah explains her reasons. "Aw, I see... don't worry! When they're done, and you come pick them up, I'll show you how it's done!" She smiles and gives a firm nod, realizing that Sarah is the kind of girl who was boyish when she was young, but now feels out of sorts on how to be a girl. Frowning slightly, she reaches over the counter to take Sarah's hand in her own and give it a firm squeeze.

"Just because you don't have all the experience, that doesn't mean you can't catch up! You might stumble a little here and there, but you can be fashionable. But also, you don't have to if you don't want to. Just because you're different from most girls your age, that doesn't mean you're 'weird' or anything. You can be as tomboyish as you want!"

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
Sarah takes an actually relaxing deep breath as she squeezes Tomoyo's hand. "Thank you." She smiles. "But, I *am* weird! I can bench press a bus! That alone drives off a lot of potential dates. Also If I couldn't figure the heels out, I was considering hovering a few inches off the ground and hoping no one noticed. I know that's not all the strange given the Multiverse, especially in Elite circles, but it still makes it hard to feel normal. I hang out in Paragon City a lot. No one gives me a second glance there even when I'm in flight."

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo giggles softly. "Oh, sure~ But among Elites, and in the Union, bench-pressing a bus isn't that big of a deal. Once you interact with the Multiverse a little, you'll see that most people won't look twice when you do something weird~"

She shakes her head. "You will be able to manage heels! I've been wearing them for a few years now, I'll show you everything I know." She smiles an honest smile and points at Sarah. "Just remember this whenever you feel down about this stuff: You fight monsters and bad people all the time, what's the threat in a dress, or a pair of heels, or a date?"

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
"Fighting bad guys and monsters has never made me feel socially awkward." Sarah smirks, "In fact, that's what I do to get my mind off that kind of thing! It's rather therapeutic." She stands back up and gives Tomoyo a grateful look, "Thank you for everything. I didn't mean for this to turn into a visit to the psychologist. I hope I'm not keeping you from any other customers?"

Tomoyo Daidouji has posed:
Tomoyo smiles and shakes her head, gesturing at the store floor, empty apart from James. "Not at all! Although, I should maybe get some more work done~" She puts the sketchbook back under the counter and smiles. "Don't worry about money~ I won't accept any until the outfit is done and the customer is satisfied!"

Sarah Rogers (796) has posed:
"I appreciate that. Parking a Quinjet is a little more expensive than I expected!" Sarah rolls her eyes as she mentions the parking situation. "But I'll be good for it by the time everything's ready" She adds with a nod. She shakes her alternate universe brother gently on the shoulder until he wakes up, "C'mon James, we don't want to be charged for another hour!" She says jokingly as the pair starts to head for the door. "Thank you again Tomoyo! We'll see you soon!"
