Cast of Characters: 691, Sanary Rondel

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
After the battle in the seat of her empire, Centurion Yari Takane had to all but be ordered to take time off. She's been a mess ever since the death of her mother, taking the loss of the one real parental figure in her life hard. Thus, after setting standing orders to her troops, she's taken off to the Citadel's pleasure palace. No amount of drinking can patch the hole in her heart.

She's definitely tried. It should be telling that Yari is drinking a Sprite instead of drowning herself in booze. The little area she's in is a tiny lounge, with closed off areas for privacy in enjoying time with compatriots or soaking away one's woes.

Yari, feeling far too alone and vulnerable right about now, knows only one person she could possibly call and open herself up to. She dials Sanary's number.

"Sanary...could we talk?" Her voice is lower than usual, and she sounds like she's been crying.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
"Yari? Uh. Sure. I'll be right over."

In retrospect, it probably would have made more sense to actually ask Yari where she was before heading out. Then again, there were only so many places they could meet up outside of the Dreadnaught, and they were practically becoming regulars at the Pleasure Palace at this rate. Besides, there was something odd about the woman's voice, and Sanary needed to get to... Wherever she was as soon as possible.

It didn't take long for Sanary to find Yari at the latter location, hurrying over to the Au Ra to give her a light hug in greeting: Close enough to offer comfort, but not so heavy-handed in case she needed some personal space or arm distance to punch something effectively.

"Hey, Yari. What's... Uh. What happened? Wanna talk about it or... Hit stuff?" There's a concerned tone in her voice even as she holds her hand up, possibly offering a target just in case she takes the healer up on that offer.

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
Yari doesn't hold back. Indeed, she actually clings to the other woman for a moment. She's shaking already, and from her eyes, she's definitely been crying.

She lets go after a minute, managing to sit up.

"I..." She gulps, and forces a glass-thin smile.

"Hi Sanary." She starts. No, she won't be rude to her friend.

"Hitting things won't help." Rare words from her.

"Do you remember meeting the Legatus, my Mother?" Begins Yari, almost immediately choking, then forcing it down.

"You cannot breathe a word of this to anyone. It is a national secret. Understood?" She sobers slightly, trying to look severe, and failing.

"The man that was attacking the Emperor, Luscus, was in league with the Dravanians and Nael Darnus. He...he was the one who killed my Mother. She..."

Her voice cracks, and she sobs.

"She's dead. My mother's dead! And...and even killing the bastard doesn't feel like it's made a single bit of difference!"

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary remains silent throughout that hug, stroking Yari's back lightly to try and offer her some small comfort. She nods once when she mentions the mother, inwardly cringing at what's likely to (and actually does) come out next after nodding again. Even with that mental preparation , though, it still doesn't prepare the healer for when Yari finally does say it.

"... O-oh. I'm... I'm so sorry, Yari. I... Uh." She's never been all that good at comforting people with her words in these types of situations. Instead, she just moves forward to embrace Yari again, an uncertain grunt escaping her every now and then as she tries to figure out what she could say that would actually help here.

"You... Did kill the guy, though. It's... Um. It's revenge for your mother and everyone else he killed? If the body's still around, we could... Ride it as a sled in a junkyard or something. Really... Descecrate it?"

She /really/ isn't good at this. At least she's got that hug going on and the back-stroking.

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
The physical comfort and her words, regardless of their content, at least have Yari managing to stay upright and not entirely break down on the spot. She grits her teeth, trying to shove back her pain, her tears, only to bury her head into the other woman's shoulders.

She manages to pull away.

"It...yes. Justice was done, but..." There's a fervent shake of her head.

"The idea that a high ranked traitor tried to kill the Emperor would cause a horrible shift in the Empire's politics, and maybe even cause rebellions. No, I did the job professionally, like Mother would have wanted." She pauses, and a little pride and confidence come to her voice.

She trembles a little bit less. Perhaps inadvertantly, Sanary managed at least that much.

"But...but it hurts. There was so much more I wanted to do with her, to...I wanted to grow stronger and show her that people outside of Hydaelyn would make good citizens and allies!"

"...I wanted her to live so that we could be proud of each other, and maybe stand as equals. We never were. That gulf of rank always separated us."

Sanary Rondel has posed:
Sanary stands firm while cradling a hand around the Au Ra's head, kissing the top of it softly for that brief moment before giving her some space again. She offers her small, sympathetic smile at noticing that hint of pride, nodding slowly a moment later.

"You did what she trained you to do. You stopped things from getting broken beyond repair, you saved a lot of people... I'm sure you made her proud." There's another pause as she considers what else to say, biting the inside of her cheek lightly before continuing.

"Rank or not, you were family. And with everything that you've done for your home? To avenge her and everyone else? That's... Better than any rank or title I can think of." She offers another sympathetic smile at that, although it's clear that she's still uncertain as to whether her intentions are coming through properly.

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
The presence, the little kiss, just Sanary's willingness to be with her has her slowly calming. But her words strike the woman.

"You...really think so?" She starts, a little disbelieving. Yari's mother was always so dangerous, so playful...but proud?

"Maybe you're right. We...we /did/ save the Emperor. And we helped keep the city safe. And got the job done."

It's a sobering thought. Not quite enough to stop the sting. But a little pride comes to her.

She leans back, and closes her eyes.

"Sanary. I want to keep making her proud. Keep growing stronger with you, so that we can prove to her and every other Garlean that those outside of Hydaelyn are worthy allies."

There's that spark, that old confidence to her slowly growing back.

Then she's leaning out of the booth.

"BARTENDER! BOOZE, ON THE DOUBLE!" A glorious slow, return to form.

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
Then, she turns back to Sanary. "...But I am on leave right now. That means we can undertake a mission of our own." She begins with utmost seriousness. The woman then starts downing booze.

"Sanary Rondel, we are going to set the traitor Legatus' grave on fire and get away with it. Are you up to the task!?"

Sanary Rondel has posed:
"Exactly. I mean... How many higher ranking people could even say they took the guy out themselves?" Sanary grins a little more broadly at that, reassured by Yari's mood improving. There's still healing to be done and time to be taken, of course, but it's still reassuring to see the Au Ra starting to bounce back after what had just happened.

"You will. We will. We keep our training going, we keep fighting together, and we'll make sure everyone knows." She pokes her own head out as Yari calls out that order, a hand reaching up slowly to tap her chin.

"And wings, too! Really crispy ones!" It's rather fitting, given the mission Yari's just given to them. There's also an evil grin on Sanary's face as she leans back in her seat, reaching up to adjust her eyepatch next.

"Of course I am. But a mere fire's not going to enough... No. We gotta think... Bigger."

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
"Yeah! ...And I did it front of the Emperor, too." There's a little hero worship in her voice. That is one badass old man.

Sigh. "Yes! Mother would expect nothing less. ...She would probably cut our throats in our sleep if we didn't." Somehow, Yari sounds a bit literal here.

Yari's stomach growls. Her culinarian fervor rises as the booze flows.

"And make sure the skin is a perfect crisp! No skimping on the spices! Internal temperature one-seventy-six! Fall off the bone good, you hear me, or do I need to come back there!?" Never serve subpar food to Yari. She tends to steal entire cooking establishments in her wrath.

Blink. Slowly, Yari is grinning.

"What do you have in mind, Sanary?" For the first time in a week, Yari is laughing.

Sanary Rondel has posed:
"She... She would, wouldn't she?" There's still that hint of fear in Sanary's voice as she says that, glancing back out from booth once more just to make sure there wasn't anyone coming to slit their throats.

If there was one thing about the woman, it was that she really left an impression on the healer.

"B-but yeah. You did great. So... We'll just have to keep aiming higher. And speaking of higher..." Grinning again, she starts making gestures with her hands in the air, never actually saying what those shapes are. They're fairly crude, however, and definitely vulgar. "Either on top of it, or... I heard there's a long-burning spray that'll let us put it right on the stone."

Tonight was definitely going to be an interesting night.

Yari Takane (691) has posed:
Yari laughs more. Nervously. Bashfully. A 'you have no idea' laugh.

"...I am but a shadow of such ruthless potential." She ends. There's actual pride in her voice. Yari Takane looks up to weird things, but given her adoptive parent, that might be excused.

Yari perks up. She watches those hands. And she breaks down laughing. She can't hold it in. And knows a guy who knows a guy.

"I think I know what you're talking about. Alright!" The wings arrive. Yari's digging in.

"Tonight, we dine...in the pleasure palace with marginally acceptable wings and booze." Pause.

"TOMORROW, GIANT FLAMING SYMBOLISM!" A very, very interesting night indeed.
