Synopsis: Psyber delivers Kyra her first gunpowder firearm.
Cast of Characters: 253, 626

Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber promised Kyra a gun forever and a day ago! Unfortunately for Kyra, the many trials and tribulations of his life had waylaid his ability to finish it for some time. Fortunately for her, though, Psyber had found himself with a windfall of free time and called her to the armory about her completed gun.

And that's where he is now. In the armory with a black case in his hands about the side of a breadbox. He looks somewhat tired, as if he's a bit overworked, but generally seems to be in an amicable mood about things.

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
Kyra understands: Psyber is a busy guy. He has to run things and do missions and all kinds of crazy adult responsibility stuff, the poor guy. Though she also kind of assumes it got lost in the background noise-maybe there was an order form she was supposed to fill out or something! Turns out she's wrong though.

Once school is out on her end, she heads straight to Boston where the now-familiar Heaven or Hell Headquarters rests. From there, it's the armory and although it's the first time she's visited, she's easily able to find it. "Oh, hey Psyber." she greets slightly guarded. "How're you doing today?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"I'm getting by," Psyber says to kyra with a tired smile. He pats the side of the case on the table and looks at her, "I finished your gun, though. Took me a while, since I made most of the parts by hand and forged them myself. This will be about as good a handgun as you could ever get," He assures her as he slides the case over to her.

"I went with standard 9 mil in it, so the recoil won't be too bad." He seems to wait for her to open it.

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"You look pretty tired. Maybe you need a vacation soon, Psyber." Kyra suggests before her green eyes drop down to the case. "Ooooh." she murmurs, immediately leaning forward before she catches the case on the table with both hands before it slides off. Immediately, she opens the box to look at the piece.

"Oh, that's right, these kind of guns will have the physical recoil." she remarks.

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Sometime soon. Things have been a bit rough," Psyber admits to her as he watches her open the case. When she does, she finds what is basically a Sig Sauer P226, save that each piece was hand-forged by Psyber in the armory, "I've balanced it, put recoil control onto it, tried to tighten up and reduce the frame a bit."

"But yes. Physical firearms have recoil. And you're going to have to get used to feeling and using them."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
She seems to vaguely recognize the gun: "Is this like a Sig?" Kyra asks, carefully taking it out of the case. Judging by the way she handles it, she's obviously trained with guns and knows her safety rules-it never gets pointed at herself or Psyber. "Very nice. You made this whole thing by hand?"

She looks up at him and nods. "The Luna's Resolve has the physical recoil too but I'm guessing this feels a lot different." she's quiet for a second, "Hey, do we have anywhere I can try this out?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"It's a me-variant of the Sig P226, yes," Psyber says to her as he watches her pick up the gun, "If you wanna name it, you can. I don't, usually." He admits to her as his hand go into the pockets of his coat. Alongside the gun, or rather under it, are three clips and about 45 rounds of ammunition in the case, "Powder charge firearms will have a LOT more recoil than you're used to."

He waves a hand at her, "Come on. I set up some paper targets at the testing range for you to plink at."

He starts to leadher over to a basic shooting alley with a pair of earmuffs for her, "Also, oiling and cleaning is very, very important on powder firearms."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"Lloyd names his pieces, yeah. Maybe I'll name this one the Psyber Special. Then I can serve up a heaping hot dose of Psyber Special." She giggles like a schoolgirl, contrasting strangely as she handles the gun. Her grip shifts to one hand as she picks up a clip of the ammunition and looks it over. "Hm, yeah, the bullets feel less dense to me."

She puts both back in the box and closes it, getting up to follow after Psyber. "Yay! It's like you read my mind."

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Hoo boy, that doesn't sound like a double entendre at all," Psyber comments as he leads her, hands in his pockets in a casual gait, "Things to account for more in a standard firearm are recoil, bullet drop after a certain distance, effective range, and other things." He notes, giving it to her as if it was a lecture.

"The gun also ejects spent cartridges, which are searing hot. Effective range will be about fifty yards if you can get to be a good shot."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
Kyra laughs mischeviously at that. "I know, right?" She tucks the box under an arm after closing it fully and walks next to him, listening as he explains the strange world of guns that don't run on MP. "Bullet drop? Oh, right, like range limitations. Yeah, we can't keep our bullets at the same height and velocity indefinitely either. Well, most people. There are some Gunners that can do these /things/...anyway, go on, go on."

She listens, then lifts a finger. "They're hot because of the gunpowder going off, right?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Yeah. Hammer strikes the firing pin, all the gunpowder goes off in an explosion. The bullet is propelled out and the spent cartridge is ejected from the slide there," He explains the rough physics of it, looking down range at the various targets.

"You seem to have studied this already."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"I find the concept of using controlled explosions to run everything pretty interesting." Kyra says brightly. "But yes, I did do a little bit of research on the physics of these things beforehand so I had some idea of what I was getting into! Besides, I don't want to look dumb and fall on my ass due to completely unexpected recoil." She sidles up to the range and unpacks the gun from the box again. She examines the clip again before holding both it and the gun up for Psyber to see.

"Stop me if I'm doing it wrong." she warns him before putting the clip in. It doesn't seem like she's doing anything wrong.

Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber silently nods to her, watching her take the magazines and the gun out, carefully assessing how she's handling it. Finding nothing to object to, he doesn't say too much and instead opts to look down range. He is, however, very careful to do one thing first. He picks up the shooting range earmuffs and drops them over her ears so she doesn't accidentally surprise herself.

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
Kyra seems largely confused by the earmuffs. She taps one with a finger, that confusion apparent on her face, before she lifts the gun and aims downrange. Actually holding a gun doesn't seem to differ much between where she's from and Psyber's Boston, given she takes it up with a two-handed grip in this case. She doesn't spend all that much time aiming and fires down the range.

    ...and misses the target.

She seems surprised, both at the noise, and at the fact that she missed. She lowers the weapon and lifts one of the earmuffs off her head. "Wow, that's pretty loud."

Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber is spared any sort of hearing damage mostly due to his nature as a regenerator, "Yep. When you use it indoors, you need to mind that. You won't go permanently deaf, but you might cause a ringing in your ears," He comments as he watches her miss the target.

"Try again. This time, exhale as you pull the trigger and fight the recoil a bit less. If you anticipate it too much, you mess up your aim."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"Impressive that they got such a loud explosion in such a tiny place." Kyra says, looking down at the Psyber Special. "Maybe I can esuna the ringing away..." she muses aloud but doesn't seem too inclined to try it out as she lets the earmuff flop back over her ear.

Only she picks it up again as Psyber keeps speaking. "Oh. Huh, okay." She draws in a breath and lifts the gun, firing a second time. The bullet actually hits the paper this time, but not the actual target areas on the paper.

"...hmmm." she muses, then fires again, this time striking the second inner ring of the target. "Ahh..."

Psyber (253) has posed:
There's a slow few nods as he watches the second shot hit the paper and then the third hit the target proper. He seems to nod approvingly before he crosses his arms, "Good!" He shouts, loud enough to be heard past the earmuffs, albeit quietly, "You just need to practice and get a feel with it. If you need ammunition, buy nine millimeter. If you wind up needing more stopping power, I can up the barrel to a .40 or something."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
Kyra lowers the gun again so she can lift an earmuff and hear Psyber talk. She nods. "And I can find that pretty easily, right? Like they sell it in stores and you don't have to make it special order? Like Lloyd's bullets?" A laugh follows, "If I ever need that much stopping power, then something has gone really, really wrong and the healer isn't being protected. That's no good. Hopefully I can get separate practice shooting under combat conditions though."

She puts the earmuffs back on and takes up the gun again to practice some more. The next few shots consistently do hit the targets-she seems to be adapting to the recoil of the gun very well.

Psyber (253) has posed:
"Incredibly common. Arguably, one of the most common types of ammunition you can get, actually," Psyber says to her bluntly as he watches her fire. There's a slow narrowing of his eyes as he observes both the patterns of her shots and the adaptation. He doesn't say too much about it, but he's impressed at how fast she's adapting.

"If you ever get in a combat situation," He shouts, "Don't try to do the fancy stuff you see people like me do. Just stick to basics. Find cover, wait for clear moments, take deep breaths, aim and fire."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"Oh good." Kyra says casually. "Common means cheap too." It doesn't take her too long for her to empty the whole clip into the target. Of all the shots, one does manage to hit dead center of one of the targets. After that, she switches to a different target until the clip is spent.

She removes the earmuffs, though when she does, Psyber just finishes talking. She's heard him though: "Oh, yes, I'll do just that. I'll leave the super fancy gun stuff to you." There's a bright grin that follows but it slowly fades, "So. What do I owe you?"

Psyber (253) has posed:
Psyber waves his hand at her dmissively, "You don't owe me anything. You're an employee and a Union member, so I don't mind supplying you a reliable sidearm," The half-angel says somewhat tiredly, "If you wanna owe me anything, just do me a favor. Don't hesitate on pursuing what you want."

It's a pretty strange sort of thing to ask of her, but he shrugs, "Otherwise, just stay safe with it."

Kyra Hyral (626) has posed:
"...really?" Kyra seems a little bit surprised. "You sure? I mean, you made this gun, that probably took a lot of time, right?" She pulls out another clip from the box. "Well, I don't think I have any problems with doing /that/ almost ever."

That is a strange thing to hear, at least that's what her gut says. On the other hand, there still felt like a lot she didn't know about Psyber yet. "Thanks, either way."
