Cast of Characters: 673, Kotone Yamakawa

Rory White (673) has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa's Cyborg body has taken a beating and needs to be taken offline for a complete repair and refurbishment! So Rory's done her utmost to get Kotone comfortable for a transfer to the COGNIZANT ODYSSEY's computer! this involved getting cozy on a reclining chair and resting her head on an unfolding, form-fitting EGO BRIDGE... and thankfully, after a few minutes of configuration on Rory's part... everything goes black for Kotone!

Because with her strange cybernetics, Rory wants to ensure NOTHING goes wrong and has ensured she'll be unconscious for the thirty minutes it'll take for an Ego upload.

But just before Kotone blanks out... Rory's voice comes over the mesh!

<<When you are aware again, you won't have a body. It will be a very strange experience. Please try not to panic. I'll try to help you accustom yourself to it. Worst case you can use a Simulmorph while we work on the repairs.>> She's TRYING to sound reassuring, but maybe not doing such a good job of it.

    WHEN KOTONE COMES TO...

About a half-hour has passed, without any sense of it doing so. One moment all is black... the next... her senses start refocusing after a nebulous, yawning sensation. Just like being out for a medical operation.

And the first thing she's likely to notice is the sensation of FLOATING. Except... not quite so much. She has a sense of EXISTING, but no sense of spatial orientation. Is she standing up? laying down? These concepts are irrelevant. But there is a sensation of the core of her own being. Something akin to a heartbeat, a pulse. And there is a sensation of being in a GREAT OPEN SPACE, like a wide open, endless field. A sensation that this place is... free, that maybe she could do anything here. Thankfully, it also smells fairly pleasant - the fresh air of Earth, though a feeling akin to wind blowing past is odd indeed. It's the pulse of various system processes running aboard the Odyssey.

She has no arms or legs, no sense of these things. Yet as her awareness settles in... she begins to 'see.' THANKFULLY, SIGHT is not changed much. The 'background' provided is a complete view of everything outside of the Cognizant Odyssey... a stunning view of space, neatly filtered so that the sun's not TOO bright. Yet the hopefully-familiar windows of ArgOS are popping up all over the place to report system status. 'Reaching out' through those portions of her mind that map to touching things interacts with these things much like Mesh Inserts or her own Cyberbrain interface might.

And somehow, there's the -sense- of someone else being around. Rory White cannot be seen, cannot be touched, but the fact that she is present is mapped to that strange part of anyone's awareness that tells them they're not alone. Like knowing someone's in a room with you but you just looked away from them.

<<Just take it slow... welcome though, to the Infosphere!>>

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone had taken a deep breath before it was started. There was no turning back. She does take Rory's warning to heart she'll have to try to not panic. She wasn't going to have a form, okay she could do this there was no turning back from this and then she passed out. It didn't seem like too long to her, then agian how long had she been out? It took a moment but she waws feeling almost like she was coming out from an operation.

She's floating but she was clearly there but there was no way up, no way down. he took a moment to try and keep herself from panicing, okay she was here, she was still thinking. That was good, the odd feeling about how she was now? It was strange but she paused smell had come back to her too it took a moment as she just took in all the new input she was getting. Sight seems to be mostly normal as she moves around? There's no head to turn, which is strange to her. She does see some of the windows, and things are close enogh to her cyberbrain or the mesh inserts on her other body. She pauses there's someone else here and she knows it's Rory.

<<I... I am. I'm ... going to be honest I'm a little scared...>>

Her attention turns to the view of space for a moment getting another good look at it as she does so, and she pauses. Not that there is a visual cue about it..

<<So...this is how you experience life, Rory...??>>

Rory White (673) has posed:
<<My preferred way! It is the first way to experience anything I ever learned. Learning to walk and make expressions took a very long time and I am still no master at either. Just... try to relax and focus? Nothing here can hurt either of us.>>

The Infosphere's a little 'gusty.' The Cognizant Odyssey's running tons of experiments. It's child's play to open windows and get displays of dozens of experiments running. There's over a hundred experiments running! Some of them are data collection operations on distant stars and solar systems and strange anomalies in the far reaches of the void. Others are materials tests on samples taken from all over the Multiverse and comparing them with known elements. A lot of it is automated and overseen by dozens of AIs.

<<So... were you REALLY bathed in superheated water that DIDN'T become steam?! I'm running diagnostics on your Morph...>>

And windows pop up showing that too! There's a diagram that's slowly filling in as nanites slowly scour the entire thing's innards and build a map of damage. They're hunting for microfractures and other obvious signs of damage that the rig's own sensors might miss. The hard way. The scan will take a while!

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
What a pair huh, the meat moneky trying to grasp the digital and the digital woman trying to get being physical. Still it's funny being like this would be fatal on my world's net for too long. Some have tried and their ghosts were erroded by the data. I suspect it has to do with a difernce in computer technology. Cripes your running all of this all at /once? Though this looks like your just managing some sort of ... RTS game, letting the unit AI do it's thing unless you need to step in and not bathed got out of. Someone made an air pocket I got into, this water was was not natural, it was somehow kept as water even though it was that hot. I... crap I don't have a face do I?>>

Rory White (673) has posed:
<<You are probably right... and the system isn't even at half utilizations! I need more experiments to run. Any suggestions to offer?>> Rory's probably not expecting a serious answer to that, but she does ask at least.

Another window pops up. This one looks kind of like an instant messenger buddy list. Rory White is listed on top and tagged as superuser, Kotone right below. Rory's icon is... well, it looks kind of like an atomic nucleus, except the nucleus is more like a starburst-flare with rays of light coming from. Kotone can easily pick an icon if she wants! Her account has images of her various morph faces appearing and a number of images. The default seems to be a tiny cartoon of a wooden ship? Odd.

<<Managing a lot of standard AIs is one of those things I was made to do. Trained to do. It makes vast logistical operations simple!>>

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa thinks for a moment, then again wait is she just pure thought now? She does speak up after a moment and she does watch the pop up for a moment. She looks at the icon for a moment. <<Pick a system we haven't studi3ed yet see if we can detect any planets in orbit that might be worth checking out ... I'd always figured you'd go for somethig more cute for an icon honestly and ... a boat? Ha. I'm amused by this, I been working with the Hikari Combined Fleet to the point I'm helping to test some hardware for them. It's been an interesting thing working with them given they are the spirits ... of warhips that also existed in my world almost a 100 years ago now. As for that I think I can see why, I have to ask what do you think of having me like this, at the moment?>>

Rory White (673) has posed:
<<There are over a billion systems! I've been having the Ais randomly scan them as they're detected.>> Rory explains... a bit sheepish-sounding, too.

<<The boat's the Argo! ... Supposed to be. Wooden ships are pretty archaic so it's a novelty. And the fleet has been a very interesting study. I'm still not sure... how they WORK... but spirits are hard to study.>>

There's a bit of a pause. Then Rory's 'icon' sort of glimmers and brightens!

<<Excited! You can finally see the world I'm from. The world as I see it!>>

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa gives off an feeling she's embrassed. <<I was just trying to thin of something useful but I guess I'm Miss analog still humm? ANd they are pretty interesting honestly then again they want to help others? I'm not going to argue with what they are doing. I guess your right but I kinda feel like a fish floping about in the bottom of a boat, not sure what's going on on. You have my information feeds dialed down, don't you?"

Rory White (673) has posed:
<<It's... nothing to be... ashamed of?>> She sound uncertain if shame is the right emotion to be reading there. <<Must crawl before one walks, right? And four legs are much better than two! You're in 'easy mode' at the moment, right... good intuition, Kotone!>>

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa Sighs for a moment at Rory. <You know if humans were quadrpeds we'd not been able to make tooks, the power of the all mighty oposable thumb you always seem to forget about that.>> There's a faint giggle. <<I'd likely end up comatose if you let it go ful bore for all my enhancments its still just boosting what I was born with rather than all new senses mostly...>>

Rory White (673) has posed:
<<That's why you evolve four legs and two hands. Like a centaur!>> Rory counters a little childishly. Not very serious, no!

<<Technically this is a remapping of the senses. Instead of tactile and proprioception you have system awareness... but it is a BIG shift. It was the same for me, getting used to gravity and inertia! And direction in general. ... And arms and legs...>>

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
<<We used what nature gave us and generally got off being on the menu and it was enough to make /you/ wasn't it humm?>> She pauses fgor a moment at the mention of remapping things. <<You are prehaps one of the two people in the flotilla who'd get shift. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to take this but I'll try the night, it can't hurt to help you out, right? Well lets find something to keep busy...shall we? Or worse comes to watch we can stream something...>>
