Death Recuperates
Date of Scene: 13 April 2016
Location: Alberichstadt <P:WTWM>
Synopsis: Janine finally recieves some visitors at the hospital.
Cast of Characters: Janine Liberi, 941, August Kohler, Kotone Yamakawa

Janine Liberi has posed:
    Alberichstadt Hospital.

Originally a building of red brick and cement, only able to house 250 patients, the recent influx of wealth to the town demanded that it upsize. Now, the original building serves only as reception, chapel and storage, the back having been opened up to lead into a massive structure of steel and fibreglass, packed with the latest medical technology.

Inside, the air pervades with that smell that all hospitals have. The flop sweat of the sick and dying, the odour of tears shed from relief and sorrow both, the lingering smell of instant coffee that fuels the staff, all masked by hospital-grade disinfectant. Doctors and nurses stride with purpose through the halls, messages go out over the intercom in multiple languages, visitors mill about, awaiting news of their loved ones...

Asking at reception would send the group up to the fourth floor. The room they're looking for is easily located, due to the police officer sitting outside it, flipping through a well-thumbed magazine. He glances up as everyone approaches, and offers a smile stained by coffee and cigarettes. "Here to visit? I think she'd like that. Go on in." Hah.

The room is clearly made to accommodate multiple people, but Janine is the only one in there. Her bed is easy to spot, as it is surrounded by flowers, cards, stuffed animals and candy, piled around a heart monitor and an IV drip. The girl herself is lying on her back, head slightly turned to look out the window. She looks... far too at-home in a hospital.

As everyone comes in, she slowly turns to look at them. Her face has some big sticking plasters on it to cover some healing burns, her bad arm covered in a plaster cast as opposed to the usual sling. She's grimacing, either due to pain or the new company.

    She says nothing.

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
Mel is here in plainclothes, for a number of reasons - the most significant of which are 'she's here as a personal matter' and 'she's not a cop of this world anyway'. So while she's got on a longcoat similar to her usual, there's no pauldrons on the shoulders, and underneath is a black turtleneck, a pair of comfy jeans and some regular old walking boots. Much easier for a 21st-century Earth to stomach. She still wears the small device on the right side of her face, but it's something she can more easily explain away.

'Think she'd like that'? Mel almost voices her snark, but opts to keep it in and just give the officer a nod. Once she's in the door, she pauses for about three seconds to size up the room, before declaring, "I think if I were surrounded by that many stuffed animals, I'd go nuts."

August Kohler has posed:
August Kohler enters the room, slowly and carefully. The redheaded teen has been paying attention to the story ever since it happened, asking teachers regularly if there was any news, but hasn't bothered seeing about visiting until today, for whatever reason. He's in his school clothes, a buttoned up shirt and jeans, not having changed since class, and he has a large bag over his shoulder, holding something suspicious and evil. It is likely he is here for abhorrently awful reasons, as he nods in greetings to Mel once he's in the room, before eying around. He mutters slightly to himself. "You can't go somewhere you already are."

August moves to take a seat in one of the visitor's chairs, deciding to motion through his bag for a minute instead of actually speaking. It takes him another minute to finally say anything. "How are you feeling, Liberi? Still alive? Not that you look it." The boy grimaces slightly as his eyes pan over her wounds, knowing how awful it is to be set on fire, even if all his experiences with it are self-caused. Finally, August decides to actually open his bag and take out a neat set of several papers, plus a book, the source of his evil plans. "I've checked in with your teachers and got your reading materials for the past two weeks. I'm not sure if you're in a position to read them yourself or not, but you should be able to find someone to help you. Don't want to let your grades fall just because of burns, though I recommend being careful with the papers. Papercuts plus burn wounds are awful, word of experience." He moves to set them on her nightstand, before putting his bag back down and leaning back in his chair. He takes a moment to figure out exactly what to say, before deciding on the first thing to come to mind.

"So, how's the food?"

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa had sadly not been there when the fire broke out, she'd been off on a job saldy but she's now cery concerned. She tries to not think about this world's level of medical technology. The idea of burning is still terrfying to the cyborg, it might even be worse because it would take her longer to die to it. She shudderd at the though and here she was dressed in a long sleeveless coat. She also wore shorts a simple top and leggings along with boots which seemed to work well with it. Also an techno style hairclip poked out of her blue hair as she arrived. She does appear to be at a loss to what to say for a moment.

"Hey..."

Janine Liberi has posed:
Mel receives a long, aggressively confused stare. Apparently, Janine didn't care enough about their little talk on the radio to memorize her voice. "They're from family," she finally says, her voice a raspy wheeze. "I can tolerate it."

August's attempts at levity don't go entirely unappreciated by the girl in the bed. "If anything, the fire probably made me look more alive," she remarks. But her tone isn't really a joking one. As her reading material is revealed, she musters the filthiest look she can muster in her wounded state. "Believe it or not Kohler, school has somehow gone lower on my list of priori-" She fails to finish the sentence, due to a nasty coughing fit that goes on just long enough to be uncomfortable near. When she eventually settles down? "Wouldn't know. Throat's too raw to be eating still. That's why I'm on IV."

Kotone gets a long look herself. "Hey yourself." Finally, she turns her head again to look away, back to the window. "What do you want?" she says, to everyone.

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
"I've never known a fire to cause stab wounds," Mel replies to Janine's question, finding an open section of wall to lean against. "Mel Brock," she adds. "The self-satisfied cop." It sounds like a barb at first, but there's no malice in it - if anything, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of good-natured ribbing. "Not here as a cop, though. I'm here because I heard something pretty crappy happened, so I felt like a visit." She's careful to stay back, and careful not to tread over the discussion between August and Janine. He seems to actually know her, so he takes priority.

August Kohler has posed:
"That's cold, Liberi. I just came out of the bottom of my heart to give you your homework, because you're injured." Somewhere, August is blending sarcasm with truth. It's hard to tell which is which. However, his joking manner begins to pause once he hears Mel Brock, leading August to look further over Janine's wounds. "Wait. Either you tripped and fell on something, while on fire..." He takes a minute to think before grimacing as he reveals another likely possibility. "Who the hell did you piss off?" Despite his word choice, August does seem genuinely worried, though the fact that Janine's still alive seems to dull it a bit.

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa looks Janine over for a moment before sh thinks to speak that was prehaps the worst way to greet Janine prehaps. Still she wasn't about to depart here. She does take note of the stab wounds however as August asks what the Cyborg is thinking she backs off for a moment.

"I was concerned and wanted to come see you."

When Kotone had had her incident happen she'd had barely anyone come see her and she didn't want that to happen here for Janine regardless of what she might think about that.

Janine Liberi has posed:
The trio state their cases. Mel, the police officer that Janine had accused of being in it for the sense of self-satisfaction. August, the seemingly pyromaniacal member of Die Reisenden. Kotone, the meddling cyborg. They all claim they're only here out of concern, and to know the truth.

    Can she believe that though?

Why else might they be here? To lord over her, to feel smug and secure in how 'right' they were about her words landing her in trouble? Possibly... but. If they were, they wouldn't need to pretend otherwise. Not like she was in a position to stop them.

Then what? What could it be?

Oh shit, they're asking questions. Well, no harm in giving them a name. She hadn't told the police much of anything. At best, they would assume she was delirious. At worst, she gets sent to the loony bin. "Lezard Valeth," she croaks, turning her eyes to look at them and gauge their reactions.

"He started the fire. He had Matilda killed."

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
Lezard Valeth. The look on Mel's face makes it plain that she knows the name. She pushes it down for the moment, but she's not happy. She decides to retreat for the moment into police officer's instincts, which pick up on one thing almost immediately. "You say 'had her killed'. He didn't do it himself?"

August Kohler has posed:
August takes over the info Janine gives slowly. The first thing he realizes is that Lezard Valeth is a weird and very Not German name. He's not sure if he's heard it before, but it seems vaguely familiar, and is likely multiversal. Mel Brock realizes the other key thing before he can think of it himself, as he nods slowly. "He's not from here, is he? Damn it, who does this guy think he is to come to our world and do this?" August knows almost nothing about Lezard Valeth, so he'll have to poke at the name later. Right now, he turns to Janine, sighing. "Why did he do it?"

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa looks at Janine as she makes up hrr mint to answer about what happened. Then comes the name Lezard Valeth which is a look of shock and more than a little fear. She litens now as Janine says more that he had Matilda killed and this is just getting grim now. She looks to August for a moment.

"I know the man, I have encountered him before."

She says slotly she does seem to know and she frowns as she thinks over her next works she's looking spooked and even more concerned for Janine...

Janine Liberi has posed:
Mel's expression says a lot to Janine. For a brief moment, the girl wonders if Mel is corrupt, and Lezard sent her to keep Janine quiet. But, no. If she was dirty, she wouldn't bother with follow-up questions. "He summoned some undead thing to do it... I tried to stop it, but..." Carefully, she pushes some of her blankets off to reveal her hospital gown, tugging down the neck a little to reveal that her torso is covered in bandages.

She then looks to August. "I talked shit at him, that's.. what I did. I guess he wanted payback." It sounded like she was about to justify herself, but gave up. "Don't ask me, he didn't exactly say a whole lot."

To Kotone, she only says, "Yeah, I bet." It's unclear what she means. "Everyone seems to know him. So I guess I'll look forward to-" Another coughing fit. "Look forward to everyone taking his side."

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
"He thinks he's hot shit, that's who." Mel's expression has turned a little hard. "I've worked with him once or twice. Ego the size of a small planet. I've seen him swear vengeance on a mindless shadow-thing because he happened to be hit when it lashed out to protect itself. Like declaring a grudge against a sea anemone for daring to be in your way and having spines." She shakes her head. "Liberi, I don't know what the hell kind of assholes you've been hanging around with, but where I come from, killing people, stabbing people and setting an apartment on fire just because the girl who lived there said some mean things that hurt your fragile ego, is a pretty dick move. It's gonna take some effort not to put him on his ass next time I meet him."

August Kohler has posed:
"He needs to get his ass kicked, seriously." August seems pretty angry at Lezard, but it's hard to tell if it's because he beat up Janine, or because he did it in Alberichstadt. In a flash of blue energy, a spoon appears between August's fingertips as he twiddles it, seemingly using it to distract himself. "Liberi, why the fuck would I take his side? I can't side with a guy crazy enough to set fires and endanger people, or try and kill my classmates because he can't take other people saying mean stuff to him. And if you think the others, besides maybe MacNally because she's weird, will side with him? You're out of your mind." Wait, wait, did he really say that first part? "I kind of feel like he needs to be stopped if he does this kind of stuff. Before he hurts anyone else."

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa Says "You think I'd side with that Monster?" She's looking flat out stunned at this she really is. She looks to MEl for a moment then back to Janine for a moment.

"You really think so? That a murderous necromancer like that would have us side with them? Look we need to deal with him this has gone way too far and no someone's in the gorund because of him. He's got to be stopped before this goes further."

Janine Liberi has posed:
Janine regards the three with an expression akin to 'dull shock.' She had been expecting people to say that she deserved it. Hell, even she thinks she deserved it. And here they are, saying this... "Well, maybe not you lot..." she croaks. "But I've not exactly built up some loving relations out there. Some will say I deserved this, and more."

But when they speak of giving Lezard some payback, her face twists, which has to be painful judging by the burns. "No. He's mine." A hostile scowl has formed on her face, her unbroken hand clenched into a fist. "I'll have his guts after I destroy his place and take everything he gives a singe shit ab-"

Another coughing fit, one that just goes on and on.

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
"You don't have to worry about me getting in the way," Mel replies. "Much as I /want/ to cave his face in, I'm a cop. I can't go around starting back-alley brawls even if I really, really want to. Now, if he pulls something and I happen to be there to stop him, well." She smiles a little. "I may just take the limiter off to ensure that I can do my job." She tilts her head slightly, making the strip of tech along her jawline more obvious. It's not cybernetics; not grafted on or spliced in, merely stuck to the skin over her jawline. "Ensuring officer safety, all that good stuff."

She takes a hand out of her pocket, and holds it out. At the same time, one of the plushies floats up and over, settling right into her waiting fingers. "I'm not a big fan of street justice, for obvious reasons. But no matter what kind of mouth someone has, words are words. You respond to words with words. You don't respond to them with swords, fire, and /fucking skeletons/. If people start saying you had it coming, you can officially and without compunction start ignoring those people. And seeing as how he doesn't fall under my jurisdiction, if someone hands him his ass, it's not like I can do anything, can I?"

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa Says "Lezard is a Confederate Officer right? Wouldn't be be something naturally you'd need to go after, right, Miss Brock?"
% She wasn't being snakry she was jsut bringing it up she also looks to the rest of the group.

"I can give you what data on what I know of how he fights for what it's worth. Still it shouldn't be a rushed attack a plan would be needed. However if you want him he's yours....there was a man like him that ... is the reason why I'm Cyborg now."

August Kohler has posed:
"And they're assholes who shouldn't be listened to." August starts to stand up, clutching his bag to his side as he slowly nods to Janine. "Alright. But if you need help, well, we can always fight fire with fire, can't we?" In a gesture, he makes his spoon vanish in another flash of blue energy. "Also, read the material when you are feeling better, seriously. If you get worse grades than MacNally, I won't ever be able to take you seriously again." August smiles briefly at Janine, before heading out the door. He's said and done what he needs to, and there's not much more he can do right now. Knowing she's feeling better is all that matters!

Janine Liberi has posed:
As Mel goes on and on, Janine slowly recovers from her fit, eyes watering a little. "Don't get it... you would be out of your jurisdiction, right? Just beat his ass as someone from the Union if you care so much." She quirks an eyebrow, a glimpse of the usual Janine seeping through. "Or are you just all talk? Trying to comfort me without committing to anything?" It doesn't sound... hostile though. Nor confrontational.

August's retreating back gets a little, confused half-wave from her needled arm. To Kotone, she only says, "Oh yeah? I'm really not in the mood to hear someone preach about how I should cut my arm off and replace it right now, so if that's why you're here..."

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
"Strictly speaking, I'm considered an 'ally', not part of the military," Mel says, turning her attention to Kotone. "I'm an officer of the law, first and foremost. I'm there to help save people and deal with crises, I don't want to go playing soldier if I can help it. My appointment was about half political, to be real honest."

Apparently satisfied with her examination, she releases her grip on the plushie, and it floats over to where it had been. More or less, anyway. "I might not be on-duty, but I've got my principles. If he doesn't give me an opportunity, I can't really beat him down. Not that it's not tempting," she adds. "Oh god, is it ever tempting. But I can't start fights. Only finish them." She folds her arms across her waist, then adds, "But if you think of some way I can help that isn't getting in there and breaking his jaw, I'd be willing to give it the old academy try. For that matter, if there's anything else I can help with." She nods towards the pile of homework. "Like that, for example. Anything in there I might know?"

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa listens to what Mel has to say in regards to her eariler statement and she seems to understands.

"Ah I get it I shouldn't have assumed that."

Speaking of asumptions she looks over to Janine.

"I am sorry I was not implaying that, I am not even suggesting that you cyberize. I'm saying seeing I don't like it when people with power and an ego throw around do things like this to other people...I'm seriously not Staren..."

Janine Liberi has posed:
Janine lets out a long sigh as Mel explains her reasoning. Why should people hold themselves to principles, not like anyone else would really care if they broke them without them knowing?... Bleh. She's too tired to argue this right now.

"No, don't worry about it," she says to Mel, looking at the piles of homework. "Matilda will..." She pauses. Her face crinkling into a twisted expression. "She would have helped me..." Kotone's quip about not being Staren makes the corners of her mouth lift a little, but she looks absolutely miserable.

"Look... can you go? I just... thanks for coming. Thank Kohler too if you see him. But I just..." She looks on the verge of tears.

Mel Brock (941) has posed:
Kotone insists she is not Staren.

"And thank god for that," Mel quips.

But Janine is... not looking so good. So Mel leans away from the wall, puts her hands in her pockets, and then comes out with a business card. It's printed fairly simply, no graphics or anything; just 'MARSHAL MEL BROCK' and a radio frequency. She lets go of it, and it floats right over to Janine's bed, then drops in her lap. "Tell you what. You ever need to talk, that's my private band. Any time of day, anything whatsoever. If you're in trouble, if you just need someone to talk to who won't give you shit, whatever. Even if it's the middle of the night. I'll listen."

The tall woman doesn't wait for a response. She leaves the card with Janine to decide what to do with; and then she turns to walk out the door, letting the girl have her dignity.

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa has hopefully salvaged things socially a bit she's possibly put her footh in her mouth but it seems she's been forgiven for a moment. She looks at Janine and nods at the request.

"No problem, I'll get on my way."

She looks back to Mel.

"Amen to that."
