Staren has posed:
Hub - SSC Stranger than Fiction (Location #0)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The walls, floor, and ceiling of the Stranger than Fiction's lower deck are covered with a facade that makes the structure look as if it are constructed of large stone bricks. The 'hub' room is about 25x15' across and about 7 1/3 feet tall. The teleporter pad is in the fore-starboard corner, the doorway to the lab is in the center of the fore wall, and the doorway to manufacturing is in the center of the aft wall. A spiral staircase to storage and the residential deck is in the aft-port corner. Through thick transparisteel windows, you can see space outside. Large storage cupboards are against the walls here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Staren waits by the teleporter to welcome arrivals. Once everyone's assembled, he smiles and looks between them. "Welcome to the SSC Stranger than Fiction! My, uh, home now, I guess. Right this way..." He leads them up the stairs. The next floor up is a carpeted room, maybe 20x15 feet, with carpeting and dark wooden furniture with autumn-colored upholstery. There's a couch, a coffee table, and some chairs, as well as a bed in one corner. "Please, have a seat! So, I'm calling this meeting just to, like, get some ideas for initial projects for us, besides getting a base. See if anyone has any ideas, or maybe we need to just take stock of what we have and what we can do."

"Can I get any of your refreshments? Iced tea, soda, coffee, hot tea, various snacks?"

Rory White (673) has posed:
"Not necessary in my case." Chimes a blue-haired young woman who follows in after Staren and finds herself a seat. Rory's sleeved into her Synth today, as the occasion is too social for the rather inhuman-looking Flexbot.

"Well... one thing I believe is worth investing some resources is setting up a wider sensor network. Satellites and relays for example that can be largely automated for data collection. You can't study or respond to what you don't know about!"

Staren has posed:
Staren hmms, holding a hand to his chin, supporting his elbow on his other arm. "A sensor network over the entire Multiverse? That's just too vast, though... Maybe we can get some around specific worlds, but... that seems too limited.

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa knows the drill with the Flotilla's tech of ships and is long used to being beamed about, she formes on the pad, stepping off it and her clothing still rippling as it takes onthe shape of one of her newer but more commonly known outfits. She's taken quite a liking to smart clothing.

"Evening Staren, Rory I had a few ideas as well..."

Staren has posed:
Hearing that, Staren looks to Kotone cheerfully. "Oh? Let's hear them..."

Rory White (673) has posed:
"Naturally, but we won't even know where to prioritize until we start gathering data in the first place, will we?" Rory counters gently, then turns her head with clear interest in her eyes Kotone's way.

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa says "Well one we might need to standariz kit for anyone who joins the group for field work but as for that? I'm thinking we need to take a hand to trolling the various datantworks of the multiverse in a more efficent way for information hunting. Which can help with leads, or even allow us to check findings. I'd be fairly good at that other things might be looking into designing equipment to suit our needs as well. I'm pretty sure I could talk Miho and Saski into being on board with this venture."

Staren has posed:
"Bit of a catch-22, unless you've got an idea where we should start? /Although/... maybe preparing map missiles and satnets-in-cans to have some on hand when we need to study a world quickly might be helpful." He looks to Kotone. "Trawling everything that's going on? That sounds overly big too, I mean... can even an AGI keep up?" He looks back to Rory.

Rory White (673) has posed:
"Better than most humans could, apart from very rare exceptions." Rory answers gracefully. "But we have limits. Technologies and techniques like forking certainly improve scope and scale, but have their own risks. The easiest way to handle massive amounts of data for anything that looks interesting is to have specialized AIs filter first so at least SOME attention is paid to data you can't get to yourself."

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa says "That's an idea some surival gear, medical kit, that sort of thing honestly. I don't ever intend to fork, not after what happened to Miho and Saski."

She looks to Starten for a moment.

"Humm maybe not everything but work on improving what we can do right?"

Staren has posed:
Staren nods. "Well... while I don't have /no/ experience in the area, I suspect the Argonauts know more about programming AIs than me. Maybe we could have them watch worls that see a lot of cross-world traffic, or something.

He looks to Kotone. "Survival gear... hmm... Some sort of standard stuff members can carry to be prepared for lots of situations? Or ones we're likely to see? That's a thought... We might come up with some weapons too. I mean, not to focus on that, but..." He walks over to a wall panel and opens a locker containing a vacsuit, smartskin, and SMG. "Stuff like this weapon specially-designed for in-ship combat... Having access to designs like that might be useful." He closes the locker. "Or stun guns, for people from worlds where those aren't as easily available."

Rory White (673) has posed:
"This sounds like a VERY promising endeavor!" And mentally, Rory notes for her Muse to keep this conversation in mind come third watch so she can get started on it. "Survival kits, exploration kits... medical kits.. a lot of things could be standardized."

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa says "I'm thinking a standard general kit so we have something we can rapidluy make ready to use. It's not perfect but it's better than having no plan, right? Even if we don't produce it all we could at least have plans for what to fab, or buy. Also speaking of all this? I need to get a muse, I think at this rate. I can multitask but having something to help me deal with the data crunch would be nice."

Staren has posed:
Staren nods. "Well... Hmm. Smart vacsuit, nanobandages, multitool... stun weapon, foam grenades... A computer for anyone who hasn't got one... Hmm. Something like repair spray... Probably not so much, it'd mostly only work on our own stuff. Shame we can't give everyone medichines..." STaren muses to himself. "ANy other ideas, besides info-monitoring and kits?"

Rory White (673) has posed:
"All sound like good suggestions. I'd suggest adding a Standard Muse to the list, but... many might find getting used to that very hard."

Staren has posed:
Staren nods. "Perhaps we could come up with a muse-like AI designed for more limited use. Like... keeping people apprised of developments within the group, findings of those who are combing the internets, and helping anyone to use any unfamiliar technology we adopt as standard or that's involved in a particular project."

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa says "Some sort of rations, people still got to eat. Also I need to look into some of the mintance issues on my primary shell. It's good it's just? Given the power systems there's a reason I need to eat cyborg food and not just for fun.." Ko pauses for a moment with a bit of a blank look on her face and in that moment she loosk /very/ doll like. She shakes her head a bit however. "Still we got a lot of wok to do, right?"

Staren has posed:
"Not really muse-like, I guess." Staren adds, scratching his head. "I guess a lesser helper AI. Rations? I guess it's good to have something ready, but I can't help but wonder if someone /that/ concerned couldn't just take a food fabber. Or a maker."

Rory White (673) has posed:
"Hrm. A simplified Muse. There could be a benefit in that." Rory agrees, thinking aloud. Her gaze has gone a bit glassy and anyone watching the Mesh can see she's doing increasingly rapid searches over the link to the Odyssey...

Kotone Yamakawa has posed:
Kotone Yamakawa says "Not everyone uses such, nanotech has its flaws, keeping it simple sometimes is the best, the easiuer it is to maintain the better. That's why it's a surival kit." Kotone sighs a bit.

Staren has posed:
Staren nods. "I guess that's a point. Although, that doesn't mean we shouldn't have an anti-nanotech kit with guardian swarms."

Staren has posed:
Staren smiles. "Well! That's a start. We've got a couple ideas for things to start on. Good meeting, and I'll talk to you guys more later." He yawns. "But, it's getting late... Um... you guys can see yourselves out, I'm gonna head to bed. Goodnight!" He heads up the spiral staircase to the top deck, which the ship map indicates contains the bathroom, kitchen/dining, and bedroom/office. He's not particularly concerned with Rory or Kotone poking around the ship if they choose, but he will note it if they do.
