Profile

The daughter of the head of Privilegio, a sweet-manufacturing company, Janine is a rare talent in the world of fencing. The combination of her skill and her family's money once made her one of the elite at Drachenblatt Academy. However, a crippling degenerative disease withered her dominant left hand, costing her a position as the head of the school's fencing team. As a result, her so-called friends drifted away from 'the cripple,' leaving Janine feeling gloomy, isolated, and vaguely disgusted with the idea of 'status quo.' Out of a desire to prove herself to herself, she undertook the Woodcutter's Challenge. For her bravery-or desperate foolishness-she received the Persona Biancabella, allowing her to weaken foes and strike them down with mighty gusts. With this newfound power, she hopes to find some new purpose to cling to.

PERSONA COMBAT: The summoning and use of her Persona is physically, mentally and spiritually taxing on Janine. Having it out for long periods quickly drains her, and she will need plenty of rest and recuperation afterwards to fully recover.

SHARED WEAKNESS: Attacking and harming Biancabella will in turn hurt Janine. In addition, the two share Biancabella's weakness, meaning Janine takes more damage for attacks that slash and pierce.

I AM LEFT-HANDED: Janine's dominant left hand has been withered by a genetic musculoskeletal degenerative disease, rendering it unusable. She can no longer support it with her own strength without pain, so she keeps it swaddled in a sling. This has hindered her fencing, requiring her to relearn everything from scratch. It also presents a very obvious target to enemies, as well as a blind spot to circle around to stay away from her blade. Also, this means that her sword must serve as her weapon and her summoning tool simultaneously, as she cannot hold two things at once. Thus, disarming her robs her of all her combat capabilities (PL 30 -> 20).

KEEPING UP APPEARANCES: The tolls of Janine's battles in the Forest of Mirrors extend to her life as a mundane school student. She has to keep her two lives separate, but the struggles she goes through in the Forest can make her too tired to keep up with school. She also can't go around explaining the situation without being regarded as mentally ill.

HOMESICK: Though she hides it under a mask of tired apathy, Janine deeply misses her family. She was raised in an environment where they were always around, not just mother and father, but uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents. Having lost that support structure has left her feeling vulnerable, and her illness has only exacerbated this. Psychological torment could crack this mask and cause her to break down.

DRUG DEPENDANT: Due to her disease, Janine is reliant on two kinds of drugs. The first is a painkiller, used to help her get through the bursts of pain that come from her arm. The second is a drug to prevent the advancement of the disease. Taking away the first can leave her weakened by debilitating pain. Taking away the second can allow the disease to progress, potentially crippling her further.

BIANCABELLA

ONE LIFE: A Persona is an extension of the self, and thus, Janine and Biancabella are linked. Janine's physical capabilities are enhanced by Biancabella, who is a speed-based Persona. As such, she is quite fast, which suits her fighting style.

THE POWER OF BONDS: A Persona becomes stronger as the user forges bonds with others. Those who befriend Janine and influence her strongly will find that influence reflected in the capabilities of Biancabella. For example, by spending time with a medic, Biancabella may develop healing capabilities. These new capabilities are as unique as each person out there (Each new skill requires an upgrade app).

DEATH AWAITS YOU: Death is the hunter unbeknownst to its prey, and Biancabella reflects that quite well. Rather than representing a swift, violent death, she represents the gradual loss of capabilities until you pass. This is shown in her use of debuffing magic that weakens foes.

THE BLACK WIND HOWLS: Furthermore, Biancabella is capable of commanding winds to damage foes, violently buffeting them in a cyclone or knocking them down with mighty gusts.

MUTILATION: In the story where the Persona takes her name from, Biancabella had her hands cut off and her eyes gouged out. Fittingly, the Persona is vulnerable to attacks that slash and pierce, which is shared with Janine.
