Ryu     Ryan Bateson, or more appropriately, Ryu was being treated in Medical following a very nasty incident involving demons made of molten gold. Once he had finished fighting them and left, he got to Medical and they went about the arduous task of removing the metal that his blood had somehow purified and supercooled onto his body, thankfully saving him from damage that would've otherwise been permanent. A big chunk of it sits on the table forming a partial 'mask' of gold. The spot they pulled it off of is blackened and emitting a soft bluish-white light where the scales have been torn away, with blood dripping down and being mopped up with a towel every now and then.

There's other places on his body here and there where very large globs just stuck to his scales. The process is very slow and the doctors and nurses are having trouble doing it without causing more harm to their patient.
Kyra Hyral     A few hours ago, Kyra had seen a video feed of that demon attack. Unfortunately, she was in no position to respond to it-kind of a shame since she would have loved to support a group against a threat that dire. But in this case, she could at least help those who had fought recover afterwards.

For the moment, she is preparing a strong painkiller cocktail out of her current set of medicines on hand. Kyra has not approached Ryan yet as the doctors and nurses were still focused on trying to remove the gold from the dragon's hide. That aspect of Ryan's recovery was something she herself couldn't help directly with.
Toph Beifong     Upon hearing about what had happened on the radio Toph had been quick to head off to Njorun station, despite it starting to get late in Malibu. Then again, this is just what she is here for, right? As an earthbending master she has a job to do, even more so when metal is involved.

As Ryu gets treated he won't have to wait long until one of the nurses show the young girl in. Clad in her usual tunic, cloth belt and pants Toph Beifong heads over to the bed, and while she was a bit worried she can't help but grin as she reaches out and places a hand on the edge of the bed. "Heya, thought you would be... bigger, you know?" Dragons are mostly large from what she has observed, but she's not going to hold it against him. "How are you feeling?"

Kyra gets a nod even though Toph doesn't turn fully towards her, but then again a blind girl won't be needing to turn her eyes fully towards somebody. "Heya, thanks for the other day." The healer can focus on medicine for Ryu while Toph handles the gold. At least the medical personnel know Toph well enough from her previous stays at Njorun to step aside when she reaches her hands out. And unless she is stopped she will place them on the places where he is still coated in gold. Closing her eyes the teenager breathes, focusing on the metal coating the scales..."Huh, it doesn't feel too different. I understand why they have problems with getting it off."
Ryu     Ryu gave Toph a look of surprise, staring down at her from the bed. Her remark at his height just gets something of a content rumbling out of him, the embarrassed dragon closing his eyes for a second there.

"It doesn't hurt. But then I don't feel much of anything right now. It'll hurt a lot later." He grunts as they try getting another piece off by picking at it, which feels like they're about to pull off the burnt scales underneath along with it. He peers back at the Doctor, who lets out a strained sigh and shrugs.

"Too different... but it /does/ feel different?" Ryu wonders at Toph, actually curious about it. "Kind of morbid, now that I think about it, but maybe it'll be magical later."
Kyra Hyral     "Oh, don't mention it, Toph. I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do!" Cheerfully, Kyra looks up with a grin before returning to mixing several different-colored liquids together to create what turns out to be a very green liquid. This liquid is poured into a spray bottle.

She walks over to Ryan and circles around him, looking him over. She was a little familiar with his dragon form, having witnessed it once before. But at that time, he wasn't capable of speaking in it nor very comfortable with being a dragon. "Gold mixed with dragon's blood sounds like it would be a recipe for something. Nothing I'd recognize myself. There would have to be studies...so you feel no pain, which means you don't really need another dose of painkillers right now. If you start to feel anything, let us know. Until then..."

Kyra wields the spray bottle, hovering around the area where the gold had already been pulled off, scales were taken with it, and blood was slowly leaking out. Yes, right around that shining spot. It is this she sprays with the superconcentrated potion mixture.
Toph Beifong     Toph herself is only five feet as well, not a very impressive height perhaps for somebody who claims to be the greatest earthbender of all time, of a girl who stomps her feet around. But she carries herself with outmost confidence.

Though when the physicians and nurses try plucking at the gold to get it off, she frowns in annoyance and reaches out to push him roughly aside. "Stop it and let an expert do it," she huffs. And when Ryu might seem worried that she can't do it, Toph snorts. "It feels a bit tougher. Gold is very soft compared to other metals. Which is why it's used so much in jewelry, I guess. But even if it was a hundred times stronger I would be able to get it off!" she claims, then tightens her grip on the gold parts with a determined look on her face.

Perhaps it feels a bit strange to Ryu. As if he is suddenly covered in mud that gradually loosens, and as Toph pulls her hands back the gold seems to follow! Not just from one place, but all the gold that he is still covered with loosens and is pulled away from his scales. No pain, no tugging, no discomfort at all. Moving her hands in a somewhat circular motion Toph gestures to the gold, which collects and shapes itself in a sphere as it turns solid again, and she takes the golden sphere in her hands with a curious look on her face. "I dunno if dragonblood is special or not, but I could probably make something cool from this. Just let me know when you have an idea for what you want me to make, okay?" But for now she steps back so Kyra can do her job.

"So how did these dunderheads spend pulling your scales off?" she asks, and some of the nurses sigh heavily and glance at one another. It's not like the loudmouthed earthbender is an easy patient to deal with most of the time.
Ryu     As the gold is bent off, there's a soft spark of blue light that follows it. All of the raw scales and the exposed skin beneath can be seen now, showing the sheer pain he must've had to endure just to keep fighting. The dragon, now that he's full of painkillers, takes this opportunity to reach down and poke at a burnt part on one of his scaly thighs, his blue tongue sticking out and his eyes narrowing. 'Ew, grosssss...' is the look on his face.

The potion does its job. Scales begin to mend, visibly fast in some spots. Some of the blackened scales flake off and land on the bed beneath him, which prompts him to pick them up to look at them. He looks at one of the healing spots, comparing the burnt scale with the newer one that the healing jumpstarted the growth of.

"I'll have some designs picked out in a few days," he tells Toph, and then he turns his head and softly says, "Thank you," to Kyra, seeming quite genuine, perhaps more appreciative than most would be. He gives a similar, "Thanks," to Toph, a smile heard in his voice, if not seen on his draconic muzzle.
Toph Beifong     At least Toph is unable to see just how injured Ryu was underneath this all, and with painkillers in his system it's impossible to tell from his movements, breathing and heart rate. Sure, his breathing is perhaps a bit slower than normal, but nothing too noticeable for most people. "You shouldn't pick at it if you want it to grow, you know," Toph asides, weighing the golden sphere in her hand before she places it next to golden mask. "And no rush, I can bend it whenever."

As for the thanks he gives them, the blind girl grins in return. "Hey, I'm not about to let any chance to bend metal slip from my fingers. And besides, why risk pulling off more of your scales? It would have taken these guys forever," she says and jabs a thumb in the direction of the nurses and physicians. "We're all Union, we help each other. Kyra helped me the other day when I was shot, she'll get you back on your feet."
