Kyra Hyral     Thanks to recent events, Kyra is just a little bit more cautious about what she says over the public broadband. Since the ambush didn't get the Confederacy what they wanted in the end, she does figure they wouldn't try again anytime soon, especially with the Reptillon issue on their plates. Still...best train up the habits now.

The coordinates were very precise because there are many little floating islands, some with warp gates, out here in Skyland. The one that Kyra has selected is an island with a warp gate on it.
Orphen Orphen shows up with a little cone of vanilla ice cream, looking around out of curiosity. "The Skyland is a great place to practice. It gives me the impression of being a magical bridge between the surface and the Void. I think it has magical significance, but who really knows?"
Kyra Hyral     "I know, right? Pretty good privacy too." Kyra says, giving Orphen a wave as he arrives. "How's the whole Syndicate thing working out for you, by the way? Getting the fat stacks? Anyway..."

She gestures around the sky island, which has grass, trees, and some old bits of ruin here and there-plus the warp gate. "Okay, so, break something. I'll fix it."
Orphen Orphen suddenly aims his hand at a tree, then casts, "Pet The Lion's Mane!" and a white force of magical energy suddenly crawls along the ground, though he barely misses on purpose, only slicing a nice cut into the side of the tree, not enough to knock it down. "The Syndicate's fine, but I've been trying to get my bunker built in the meantime. I need to find people who can do what I want."
Kyra Hyral     "...mffphhhahah. Er." Kyra muffles a laugh, trying not to crack up too hard at the incantation to that particular spell. The image it conjured up was just too hilarious. "Well. I know a geomancer, he could probably help you with digging out a hole in the ground for it. Sounds like a pretty big and expensive project. Why do you need a bunker anyway?"

Orphen breaks one of the trees a little and Kyra turns to it. She takes a deep breath and holds out her hands. Energy gathers, just as Orphen has seen in his own magic and just as he's seen that she's done before. "HEAL! The Scar of the Glowing Sun!" she exclaims. The air around her shudders and, quite suddenly, the cut on the tree sews itself back up, reforming into a smooth trunk and perfectly healthy tree. Kyra pumps a fist. "/Yes/."
Orphen Orphen stares at her with that usual patient but calm expression when she laughs, smiling slightly. "A magical bunker for magic artifacts. To keep them in and other people out. I'll probably need more money than I have so far, but I want to get it started."

His eyes widen when she actually does it, then he smiles. "You actually did it. White Magic is incredibly complicated, and that sepll is a kind of time magic." He reaches over to lightly pet her on the head. "You'll probably need more practice for bigger things, but if you know this, I can probably teach you black magic now, which is much easier."
Kyra Hyral     "Ahhh, cool, I see. If security is your thing, I also have a friend that can help you with that. He's a thief so he knows all about getting into places he shouldn't so he can help when it comes to protecting artifacts."

Kyra seems excited. "Hey, break something inorganic, I wanna try it against that too-" she points at one of the stone rubble chunks decorating the Skyland island. "Well yeah! I've been practicing it ever since you showed it to me a few months ago." She rubs her hands together. "Oho, black magic, now that would be /way/ off-pattern for me, heh heh."
Orphen "The first thing I'd teach you is a basic fire spell. Very versatile depending on how you use it." Orphen holds his hand out toward a ruined wall, then shouts, "I Call Thee, Element of Fire!" That's when fire consumes the small wall, charring it pretty badly before it just sort of goes out due to lack of fuel other than the bit of vegetation that was on it before. "When you heal it, it should go back to how it was before the charring, vines and all."
Kyra Hyral     "Can't go wrong with basic fire." Kyra agrees, putting her hands on her hips as she watches Orphen demonstrate such a spell on some of the nearby scenery as Kyra had asked. "Pretty straightforward-sounding too." she remarks, considering the incantaton in comparison to the one he just used. She holds up her hands again, leveling her palms at the burned wall. "Heal! The Scar of the Glowing Sun!" she calls out, magic filling the air and, though this time it seems to take slightly longer and a bit more effort, the charring disappears on the wall and the vines regrow on it into exactly the same positions as before.

"His name is Soan, by the way. Soan Sagittarius."
Orphen "Isn't that a dragon?" Orphen asks, rubbing his chin as he walks over to inspect her work. "Good job. The key to doing black magic is remembering that it has to make sense. It's not like most magic where you can create something from nothing. If you want to create fire, you need oxygen and a source of fuel, otherwise how can a flame exist? What you're doing is manipulating the already existing laws of physics at will."
Kyra Hyral     "A dragon? Nah, Soan's a Hume like I am, not a dragon." Kyra brushes the mistake off, though inwardly hoping someone hadn't caught on to his alternate identity. "Hm. That's an entirely different means of performing black magic than what I'm familiar with. If I'm not mistaken, you're sort of saying that I'm going to need to understand these physics first before manipulating them. I mean, yeah, I do get taught physics but on a very basic level they are slightly different on my world-" Kyra gestures to the nearby warp gate at that, implying that it's the warp gate to Galianda.
Orphen "It's fire, not train science." Orphen points at her. "Your first assignment is to read up on everything you can find about how fire works. And practice the spell you saw me do! Actually, I have a great idea..." He holds his hand up, forming a white rectangle of energy that he begins to talk on the radio with.
Kyra Hyral     "Hey, I'm just saying, on a molecular level, there are physics differences." Kyra says defensively, waving her hands as if the motion would convince the sorceror she was not an idiot! ....just...overthinking things. She reddens just slightly which unfortunately stands out on her pale skin. "...oh, uh, by the way, I let Soan know we were out here and you wanted to meet him. He can drop by once he's done with some trap-related stuff."
Orphen "I'll hang around here for a while, and you can keep practicing repairing things while I destroy them." Orphen takes a seat under a tree, crossing his legs. "Let's get started."
Kyra Hyral     "Good good." Kyra cracks her knuckles. "Bring it on, the more practice, the better. I'll get this down and we'll tackle some fire next. Soan'll be along later. He's one of my fellow Light Warriors."
