Cory     There is one VERY RESTLESS Saiyan in the Ring right now. She's done nothing to futz with its default colosseum-like appearance. In which... she's out in the very center, currently doing katas - punching and kicking in the air, first slowly and then quickly. Her outfit fits the regimen - Cory's wearing an orange-red gi with a blue undershirt.

And though she's been at this for a half-hour she doesn't seem too worn out.

Yeah, it's only when someone attempts to enter, learns that the instance of the Ring she's in is simulating fifteen times normal gravity and has an option to opt-in for being affected by it that the display gets a little weird.

"Grr... just standing around's not solving that problem..."
Ryu     The Saiyan lady doesn't have to wait for very long. Soon a humanoid scaly creature ambles into the Ring of Philosophy, his tail swaying behind him at a steady pace. He rumbles when he runs into the sight of Cory training, but balks at the display that pops up in front of his face... He puffs a sigh and dismisses the display, deciding against the gravity adjustment on his part.

When he speaks, it's with an unusual quality to his voice. He's not moving his mouth, so his voice is coming from draconic voice mimicky oddness from his chest and throat. It echoes and doesn't seem to possess a lot of human qualities to it.

"Hey," he greets, "My name's Ryu. I hear you're feeling restless. I've got nothing better to do today, so lemme help you out.
Cory     The instant the door opens Cory freezes, even though she's not even facing the proper door. "Gravity to standard." She instructs Ring's AI, only to then peer at Ryu from afar long before he even gets in speaking range. She ends up grinning too.

And apparently isn't put off whatsoever by the draconic appearance. "Definitely came at the right time. All these crazy things around and nobody for a good sparring partner! ... What a power you've got... the name's Chikorri. Cory for short!" She ends up slamming a fist into an open palm eagerly, then executes a backflip for some distance, only to land with a hand on her hip, tail twitching idly about.

    "... What are you though? A mini-dragon?"
Ryu     Ryu watches her with a passive interest, her backflip followed carefully through the air. He blinks slowly at her, processing her introduction and her complaint about how there's nobody to be a sparring partner. He doesn't seem to be an overly animate fellow, almost like a statue with how little he moves when standing still. She inquires about his nature, and he rumbles for a moment.

"I've suplexed dragons five times my size," he tells Cory, and then he flexes his hands and steps up to a comfortable spot, cracking his neck just by tilting it. He gets into a hunched position, his tail wiggling behind him, his eyes focused on her. "Some dragons don't need to be as big as a house to be powerful," he goes on to say, "Dragons are powerful. That's the only constant I've seen."
Cory     "oh, I know. One of them saved me from oblivion with a magic wish. Dragons are something else. You don't know Shenron though, I'm guessing? Don't look anything like him."

    Nope. Not one bit.

either way, Cory drops into a combat stance, eyes wide and full of eager energy. "So come at me with everything you've got or else!"

Or else what? Well at least she's spirited?

But she's also just standing there - oh, no. not JUSt standing there. She clenches both fists while getting into that stance, flexes ALL her muscles, and is clearly focusing hard.

Readying for battle and gathering her strength.
Ryu     'Or else.'

Ryu doesn't even seem to react to that phrase. Whatever he is, he doesn't seem to display much in the way of emotion, at least not in this form. But he's given the go ahead, and there's a moment where he's just standing there, watching her. Just when he feels that patience might start dwindling, he lunges.

He uncoils from his stance and launches across the space between then in one good leap. His body twists in the air, and he tries to dropkick her right in the chest, moving with a great deal of speed and strength. She said for him to come at her with everything he's got, and he's not going to hold back in this case.

After, he would twist in the air just to land on all fours on the ground, lashing his tail to aid a wide sidestep that would make him difficult to keep track of. He's a speedy dragon and he's taking full advantage of that, apparently.
Cory     "wha--gh!!"

WHAM! Although Cory blocks with both arms - surprisingly they withstand the impact AND the fabric of her gi isn't gashed apart by the claws. The impact breaks through, slamming her hard in the gut and knocking her flying back thanks to her stance. She goes tumbling, hits the ground rolling but skids on all fours and then rises, grinning madly despite what must've been INTENSE pain.

"HAH! Perfect! Finally!" Like a kid in a candy shop, Cory's just overjoyed.

Though her eyes flutter back and forth, zip zip zip. She's having trouble tracking him but somehow...

"Someone I really CAN cut loose with. Kaioken.... TIMES SEVEN!"

Crimson flames of pure Ki engulf Cory, she leans forward and --

    *BZIP!*

Moving faster than the eye can see she catches up to the airborne Ryu, elbow going RIGHT for his gut!
Ryu     Ryu isn't quite as enthusiastic about this. In fact, he is very serious about it, and does his best to bounce around so that he's harder to hit. His bouncy evasion tactic only does so much. The flash of red light gets alarm bells going off in his head, and his head actually physically turns to follow the saiyan through the air. But he isn't fast enough to catch up to her when she gets to him, and instead gets struck in the gut. The best he could do is prepare for the strike, which feels like hitting a suit of armor when he braces for it. It dents his stomach and doubles him over, hurting a great deal more than he anticipated.

"HRGGHH!" That actually came from his mouth! It didn't some human, either. He lands and then retaliates against her movements with a sudden lashing of both of his claws, not favoring one side or the other. He moves with a practiced pace, trying to follow the movement her body would make if he hit her properly. At this point, it'd likely become quite familiar for anyone seeing a saiyan fight any powerful being...

People might feel impacts from several dozen yards away. No kid gloves here.
Cory     Claws impact fists at odd angles, a shield of Ki strengthening Cory's skin just enough to keep from getting more than some nasty scratches on the occasions when the still-superior Ryu's blows get through her defense. Each impact - be it fist against claw, claw against her flesh, or her fist slamming into Ryu's arm or chest brings that challenged, overjoyed look back.

But after several seconds of the exchange she's struck hard and goes staggering backwards, a hand over her gut from a gash that tore through the gi and drew blood.

She dabs at it, peers at the hand... then clenches a fist. "Now that's more like it!"

Now she swoops backwards through the air with both fists at her sides.

They're doing things no fists should ever do.

They sparkle and sizzle, then ignite with a furious blue-white light- and once that light burns brilliantly she starts punching at the air - NO!

Her palms flare open and she keeps punching, because "HYAAAAAAAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAA!"

Dozens of blasts swoop out in arcs, bulbous and bright. They fly in from different angles at Ryu and whether they hit him or the surroundings there are EXPLOSIONS GALORE!

    Onlookers beware.
Ryu     Each impact is powerful and dangerous, and Ryu can tell that if he used all of his strength that he would break through her guard. But he knows the value of pacing himself in a fight, and each strike is measured so that he won't become exhausted immediately. The likelihood that she would avoid him is too great to do anything extreme here. When he claws her directly, he straightens his posture and watches her. Her reaction gets a mildly confused tilt of his head. He's never really fought anyone who actually enjoys fighting this much, so he's not sure how to process it.

When she darts backward, he follows her movements. The movement of her hands tells him 'magic' and that's not really that far off. He's already preparing to retaliate, and soon draws in a big breath when the first blasts start coming at him. Blasts start hitting scales and a cloud of dust kicks up before he can get this attack off--

An incredibly bright blast of white fire is swept in an enormous horizontal line, smashing through the rest of the Ki blasts and aiming to slam into Cory with a titanic force. It's not the kind of fire that burns, it's the kind that pulverizes or scorches. The air gets filled with a howl like humming, crackling crystal because of this magic fire. Everything around Ryu is this fire, so it's hard to tell how effective her blasts were until after this exchange has died down.
Cory     "Whoah!?!" It's common knowledge that dragons breathe fire, but a pure white flame of this sort's unheard of. Cory's assault gets swallowed up by the much greater power. The Saiyan girl shields herself as best she's able using both hands and drawing her legs into a fetal position--

And isn't seen again until the fire recedes. She's gasping and panting, scorched and singed. Surprisingly her OUTFIT survived what her flesh had far more trouble with. "So that's dragon breath..."

But despite looking like she's already near the end of her rope, that enthused grin hasn't vanished.

"My... turn!" Even though she's short of breath and agonized... nope, not done yet.

Because the smoke had masked just what she was doing. She's still in the air, but with both hands at her side, palms facing each other and cupped. "Ka...me..." This time there's no crackling lightning or anything. A spark of light forms, shines, expands out to fill her hands and spill outwards further. The rays of light are barely contained and compressed into a sphere! "HA... ME..."

Both hands bring the sphere forward and open straight at Ryu! "HAAAAAAAAA!!!"

instantly the sphere erupts out into a pulsing, roaring wave of blue-white energy twice Cory's height!

And it's rushing straight for Ryu!
Ryu     The smoke largely masks Ryu's presence, except for the faint pinpoints of gold light that are obviously his eyes. When he looks up at her, it's as if he can pierce the smoke with that gaze to follow where she went. But, really, he had no idea what she was doing. When she prepared a huge blast, he cocks his head the other way, the attack announcement also confusing him a great deal. He decides to do something similar.

"(Holy Light, drive apart the heavens.)"

It's rare to do a spoken incantation, which shows how seriously he takes this sort of attack. He points up with a single claw at the big blast directed toward him as it comes down at him, and fires a concentrated blast of light energy into the Ki wave. He does this to slow it down, because he can't maintain that comparitively narrow beam against an overpowering blast.

He sidesteps and endures the blast, landing a fair distance off at a crouch, his scales smoking and his figure largely intact. He's battered and bleeding but not out for the count. And he speaks another word--

    "(Flash.)"

A point of light collects in his mouth, along with the fire... and instead of spreading the fire out, he mixes it in with a light beam spell, and aims it at Cory from the ground. The whole area becomes INCREDIBLY noisy and very bright, and the augmented dragon breath is not a good thing to be hit directly by, judging by the sheer air pressure it gives off as it moves.
Cory     "--Oh %$#@-" Cory's eyes had gone wide first at the sight of her destruction wave being tanked so readily... then at something very similar being returned straight at her.

Now panicking, she does the only thing she can do. Both her hands flare out either direction then slam down together and she just unleashes a torrent of unguided energy without any real technique to it. no time for anything else!

But it clashes into the incoming flames and becomes a kind of shield.

But back, back... further and further back she's pressed.

If she doesn't do something quickly that's going to hit head-on!

Despite all the struggling and being already exhausted... "KAIOKEN... TIMES EIGHT!"

The red flames intensify, and even her whole body bulges briefly from the upsurge in power! But the clothes handle it without trouble.

    However--

    "GYAAAARGH!"

She can't keep the power coming. Not enough. Although for a brief moment she's seen wrenching her arms around to try and offset the blast...

    WHOOOOOOOSH!

    Engulfed.

    -- or not!

At the last moment, having endured the holy light for only a few seconds she flies free of it, only to drop to the ground like a sack of potatoes a few moments later. The red aura dies down like a flame being snuffed out, leaving her battered body face-down.

Just reathing. That's all she can do for the moment.
Ryu     The loud scream of crackling crystal comes to a halt, leaving only the faint waver in the air where the fire used to be. Ryu steps forward with a steady gait, his rumbling suggesting that it's painful, but he's able to shrug off the sensation with some effort. He stops near Cory and looks down at her with a gentle gaze, watching for a while there.

"What is the Kaioken?" he wonders down at her, having a hunch about it. His voice is quiet, at least compared to the cacophony of the battle they just had. He's pretty sure she can talk, if she can still breathe.
Cory     "Ghh....whew." Cory totters to her feet. Oddly her outfit's only slightly tattered. mostly at the fringes and the front. It WOULD have been vaporized, were it normal cloth. Whatever it's made of isn't... normal.

Her body's in worse shape. Massive abrasions, scorched flesh, gashes... nothing fatal, but it's a good thing this happened in the Ring, right?

"whew..." Once she usts herself off she exhales, now much calmer. "Goad to have that out of my system..."

NOt only is she calmer but her tone's gotten a bit kinder. "That? One of my trump cards. The Kaioken's a technique that amplifies your Ki for short bursts, but the more you push it the harder it is to control. Too much, too fast... you can wreck yourself, even die. Don't worry. Seven or eight's nothing for me. Whew... you're in better shape than I am. haaah..."

Well for someone who should be in agony, Cory's being a pretty good sport about this. She gives Ryu one heck of a fierce look that says, quite clearly, 'next time it'll be the other way around.'
Ryu     Ryu crosses his lanky arms while she speaks, watching her as she gathers herself up to a stand. He puffs a breath through his nose while she speaks, her warrior mentality only garnering confusion from him. For the most part, he rolls with it, just assuming that it's normal for her to be like this. Saiyans like fighting, right? Right.

"Glad you had fun," he tells her, "I'll be keeping an eye on your growth. Seems like you've got the energy to be a really strong fighter. I like the look in your eyes."

He unfolds his arms, and nods to her, and turns to leave just like that. He's not one to stick around for small talk.
Cory     "Heh.. didn't you? Coming out here, I figured you were itching for something... kinda hard to tell with your kind. Sorry."

There's a word you won't see most Saiyans using much. She just frowns at Ryu, then clearly starts scratching the side of her head.

"Wait until I figure out the secret of the legendary power... one day..."
