Rory White     The COGNIZANT ODYSSEY is a small frigate-sized ship that's been orbiting high over the Athanor manor this whole time. When Rory brought him here the two of them appeared on a small teleport pad. Since then she's been rushing him through one corridor and another until she reaches the cozy medical wing. It's a small chamber the size of a modest living room, if that, filled with tube-like devices presumably for storing bodies. Most of them are empty. In each far corner stand medical vats - big, glowing tubes filled with a well-illuminated green substance, with a breathing apparatus.

This is what Rory's stuffed Pius into, after stripping off his top and leaving only what's necessary for modesty.

How long has it been exactly? Well, that's up to debate. The good thing is that if Pius is awake, he'll be able to speak and be heard through the breathing apparatus and the vat's speakers.

The fluid and medical nanites in it are almost entirely deadening his pain while they disinfect, mend flesh, and repair whatever damage was wrought to Pius' internal organs.

There's also an effort hunting through his blood for contaminants and toxins, but Rory's stunned to find this coming up negative.

"No venom?" She's just standing near the vat's displays, bewildered.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason was beamed aboard with Diane in short order, Remora was here but it had curled up and gone into low power mode. Lyria seemed to be very worried for Pirus and was looking to Diane and was very concered. She knows Diane might be angry with her but she got Diane out and she wasn't lying that Pius was in Rory's hand. The alien tech here was mind blowing to her as she watched Pius in the vat for the moment.
Pius Athanor     The man is on the brink of death from the loss of blood. The shirt that Rory peels off is soaked with his blood, as well as most of his pants. As it is the man is rather sickly to begin with, his frame wiry and not very strong. So the healing mechanics will have their hands full treating him.

While there is no venom in his blood, it's clear that the man's body has been poisoned over the years by his work. Various elements are present in his body, having made his vital organs far weaker than they should be in a man his age. It's almost as if he has been accelerated to a far more advanced age.

As they are beamed on board Diane does her best to tear herself free from Lyria. This place is alien to her as well, but there is only one thing she is worried about. "Pius!" She rushes onward towards the tube he is in, placing her hands on the glass there as she stares in horror up at him and the injured flesh, even as Rory does her best to heal the injury inflicted on him. "W-will he be okay?" she asks, looking teary eyed towards Rory.
Rory White     As more and more data scrolls down through Rory's AR her expression turns sour. She's no doctor, but the Medical AI's quite capable of a basic diagnosis and examination and she knows enough biology that what she's getting is making her FLINCH.

"I'm not sure, Diane." Her shoulders sag. "If it was just the one wound there'd be no problem, but I'm detecting all kinds of chemicals that shouldn't be IN the human body, definitely not at these concentrations! His vital organs are very weak. I'm not a surgeon!"
Pius Athanor     The girl sniffles where she stands, watching Pius's unconscious body in the tube. "This wasn't supposed to happen!" she protests, looking absolutely heartbroken. "This... I don't understand! Who was that woman?!"

As for the chemicals in his body, it seems Diane can explain that. "Most alchemists get poisoned by their own work. I-it's one of the many risks, and Pius, he... has always been working. More than anybody else."
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason lets Diane go to her bother but heaing the medical readout she grimaces she thinks he behond his own world's healing but others? Her own or Rory's might be able to do something for him. She thinks for a moment and looks at Pius.

"A confederate elite known as Medusa I'm afraid I don't know more, I'm sorry. As for your own condtion I think we might be able to help with that."
Staren     Staren /could/ egocast to get here, but that's not what he's doing.

A ship drops out of FTL near the COGNIZANT ODYSSEY. It looks like a small castle, either under attack by or guarded by a large sea serpent winding around it, the facade its Glitch scientist builders chose for the built-in particle accelerator. Staren beams over (after the ships' respective computer systems get and give the OK), already reviewing the healing vat's report.

    "The ego bridge will work."

Staren looks around the room. "If it comes to that, of course. But we will not lose him today. ...And if the healing vat /does/ work, it sounds like it will be undoing quite a lot of pre-existing damage. He'll be healthier than he's been in..." Staren shrugs.

He looks around, then settles his gaze on Rory. "What /happened/ today?"
Rory White     "That would explain it." Rory's frowning now. Very unsure just what to do. What DO you do in this situation?

Aside from monitor the mending progress...

With Staren popping in, her eyes widen. "The Ego Bridge? He's not of the same world. The success chance is pretty low and an Ego backup will take several hours!"

But she does answer, after a quick nod to Lyria. "Right. A woman who commanded magic snakes emerged instead of the one we were trying to resurrect. I am not sure why. Some kind of strange witchcraft at work, or perhaps someone had swapped the amphora with a different soul... SOMETHING went drastically wrong."
Pius Athanor     "... it wasn't Nathara who came back," Diane responds weakly to Staren without tearing her eyes away from the injured form of her brother. He is still unconscious, and his vitals are still low. The damage that has been wrought on his already weakened frame are not easy to handle.

"She... she was laughing, and then D rushed forward, and he..." That is all she can say before she breaks out into tears again and sobs, resting her forehead against the tube.
Staren     Staren looks at Rory. "The God of Space made something for me that can allegedly tell whether an offworlder is compatible with the ego bridge. I trust him on this matter." He looks between Rory and Diane. "...Who's D? Come to think of it, how do you /know/ the essence you had was your sister's? I'm not... accusing, just gathering the observed facts, to figure out what theories might fit them."
Rory White     "now is NOT the time, Staren! Leave the witch for later."

The white-clad bluenette, perfectly capable of monitoring the situation over her AR, decides to walk over to Diane and put a hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently for comfort.

"We'll see if that's necessary. I'm hoping not - there aren't exactly many Morphs available for him! ... I, personally, would like to see him cleansed off these toxins, but survival comes first."
Staren     Staren looks slightly taken aback, then confused. He tilts his head. "The healing vat will work, or it will not. If it comes to it, the ego bridge will work, or it will not. While the machine does its thing, what exactly /is/ this the time for, if not trying to figure out what happened?"
Pius Athanor     "Because the essence was taken from Nathara!" Diane half snaps at Staren. "She was sick, and she got worse in mid-January. The last weeks she couldn't even speak, she was bedridden. And eventually died in the beginning of February..."

The poor girl shakes her head. "Pius, he... he protected it all this time, there is no way anything else got into the amphora! It was closed from when she died and until he opened it tonight! He did this all to bring our sister back, and now she...!"
Staren     Staren flinches back a bit at the snapping. "Okay, okay! I don't know what the procedure was -- I got so excited talking with Pius about the future, I didn't ask about the past." He wants to pace, but he can't in zero-G. "So either the essense or amphora was switched, or someone -- perhaps Medusa's spirit, even -- interrupted the ritual..." Staren blinks. "The amphora! Is the essence still in it?"
Pius Athanor     Diane shakes her head. "The... the essence bonded with the body... everything went as brother planned, the body worked... but it wasn't her." Her voice is weak, and she doesn't even look back at Staren.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason has been listening to the whole converstation she seems lost in thought what the heck is going on here she wonders for a moment and speaks.

"This Medsua is a confederate who died around January right? She's some kinda of witch or demon, I wonder when did ... she get sick Diane? I'm wondering might she have been poessesed before ... she died?"
Staren     Staren gasps. "Could that be it? Perhaps it did work... and Medusa's posessed her, sharing the same essence. /If/ that's the case, we need to figure out how to exorcise Medusa..." He hangs his head. "...Of course, it's also possible that Medusa destroyed her..."
Rory White     "Have neither of you any consideration for a very upset girl here?!" Rory snaps, startling even herself. She blinks a few times and falls silent... then shakes her head. "Our focus should be on Mr. Athanor... he is in very bad shape!"
Pius Athanor     No, the chatter between Lyria and Staren do not seem to do wonders for Diane's mental state, and she's sobbing even more as they talk about the possibility of her sister's essence being destroyed. As well as the state of her brother.
Lyria Mason Lyria Mason frownss now and realize how far she got into things. "Pius , Daina I ... what was unaccetable I'm going to go see about contracting some doctors who may be able to help you Pius."
Staren     Staren winces a bit. "I'm... not any good at that. I'm sorry. If I'm to help in anyway, I must determine what the state of things is... is my understanding wrong that the healing vat is automatic and requires little interaction with us? M...maybe I'm maintaining too much distance. I don't know what to do more about him right now, so I'm trying to work on the problem I /can/ solve. And even if Medusa... did something to Nathara's essence... there are many possibilities in the Multiverse. Perhaps we can find a way to revive her without it. I just don't know..." he shakes his head. "There's too much I don't know. I... what can I say to give comfort?"
Pius Athanor     For now Diane only shakes her head, not responding to any of the questions. Today has been far too much for her, and right now she can't take anymore.
