Bertram Silent Bertram's office is one room in his hut. It's a lot like any doctor's office, just without computers and more paper filing. He's in his white mage's robes, and just going over some notes he appears to have written down. He's got a serious demeanor, his facial hair overemphasizing how serious he looks into something that looks seriously dour. The door is open, apparently he's not too worried about people just walking in uninvited.
Kyra Hyral     Bertram's going to be waiting for a little bit since she was just ending one of her shifts at Heaven or Hell medical. More specifically, she'd been doing her internly things which mostly consisted of cleaning up a mess caused yesterday by a "patient."

When she finally rolls in, her hood is down and her backpack is slung over her back. She strolls in with a "Hey, it's me!" to announce her presence to Bertram. When she sees him, though, she stops and frowns, "Uh. Is something wrong...?" Mentally, she reviews what she's done lately-maybe like N'raha, Bertram too disapproved of the social media?
Bertram Silent "Nothing you're responsible for. I just have a favour to ask." Bertram sounds serious, pouring both himself and Kyra a cup of tea. There's sugar and aldgoat milk on the table for Kyra to partake of if she so desires. "Xiao Li Yu is a classmate of yours, right?" The white mage takes a sip of his tea. He has neither sugar nor milk in it.
Kyra Hyral     "...oh! Whew, man, had me wondering if it was something I did in that Ramuh fight." Kyra sighs, unshouldering her backpack. Once off her back, Bertram can see that it is shaped like a moogle. She sits down and reaches for the aldgoat milk to pour into the tea. "Xiao? Yeah, she is. We've got a few chemistry classes together. She's not in the club with my friends though."
Bertram Silent "As I've tried to inform you, we had another case of major elemental corruption in the Twelveswood recently." Bertram starts to explain the matter at hand, "This one was worse than the ones before. Your classmate apparently happened to be on site, and decided to assist." He sounds like he has his doubts about her motives, but doesn't expand upon it. "During the cleansing process, she apparently drained a large amount of aether from the corrupted elemental." He waits patiently for Kyra to process this information.
Kyra Hyral     "I meant to help out with that too." Kyra says, sounding vaguely guilty. "Since healing magic seems to be anathema to the corruption." She follows, frowning when she hears that Xiao came to 'help'. Her frown only deepens when Bertram reveals that Xiao was draining aether from it. "Osmose it sounds like. What happened to both her and the elemental after she did this? Did the corruption go with her?"
Bertram Silent "She definitely seemed to have incurred negative side effects from the absorbed aether." Bertram gives an extremely clinical and vague description of what happpened. "It seemed quite effective when it came to cleansing the elemental. However..." He frowns, and then sighs. "As you may recall, in previous encounters the elemental would leave behind a corrupted crystal when the taint was purified."
Kyra Hyral     Kyra leans forward, suddenly /very/ interested, "Negative side effects? Can you be more specific than that, please? Will I have to examine her in the future?" She seems a little /too/ excited about that and perhaps in an entirely not all altruistic way. "Oh yes, I remember, with the other elementals a crystal was left behind. I've been meaning to study it more to see what we could learn about fighting the corruption...who was it here that was keeping them? Though, I'm guessing if Xiao drew the corrupted aether into her body, there was no crystal left behind. And if they're was, I sure as hell hope it didn't egress. That would be uncomfortable."

Plus it would be something even Kyra wouldn't wish on a frenemy.
Bertram Silent "It looked quite painful but I couldn't tell you the details, she didn't divulge them. She wasn't off poorly enough to stop being a smartass, so surely it can't have been too bad." Bertram answers the first question, and then goes on to the second. "Mother Miounne has them in safekeeping when nobody is actively analyzing them. She's in charge of the local branch of the Adventurer's Guild. I can let her know you'll come pick them up if you want to."
Kyra Hyral     "I think Xiao would be a smartass even on her deathbed. That's just how she is." Kyra points out bluntly. "I'll have to bother her about that sometime later. I kind of want to get more information out of her and I might be able to do it, as a fellow scientist." She straightens, then claps her hands together, "Oh! Yes, please do. I don't plan to take them off of this world unless such a thing would be permitted! And if so, I'd keep them safely aboard the Rafflesia for study. That is my spaceship and mobile laboratory of sorts...it's a work in progress! But I'm terribly curious about their properties and hope I can discover something that'll hasten the purge of the corruption."
Bertram Silent Bertram nods. "If you think she's up for that, go ahead." He then considers the latter part, and after a brief moment, nods. "I'd rather you keep them on this world, and somewhere near Gridania, just in case something happens. I don't think it will, but I'd rather be certain." He presses a pearl bead near his ear, "Mother Miounne? An offworlder girl by the name of Kyra Hyral will be dropping by soon to examine the crystals. Pray give her the opportunity."
Kyra Hyral     "I might be successful in getting /something/ out of her." Kyra says deviously, "I have ways. Ways! Hehehehe." Her laugh sounds, mysteriously, like some kind of cross between a mad scientist cackle and a schoolgirl giggle. "No worries, then, I can keep it on here and do my research here. Some of my equipment is portable."

She looks to Bertram. "Do you have any other concerns about Xiao? I know she's been very eager to 'help' here lately and if her stories about the corrupted Sylph are true, well, I'm officially bothered. I doubt I'll get any success with trying to change her behavior though. My track record for that is pretty bad in general."
Bertram Silent "I do not trust her." Bertram simply says, in the kind of tone that suggests he's not willing to engage in further discussion on that line of conversation. "However, those were Tempered Sylphs; not corrupted. It's an important difference." He pours himself another cup of tea and holds out the pot, "Another?"
Kyra Hyral     Kyra can recognize a fierce change in subject when she hears one. She shrugs and says, "Oh right, a Tempered Sylph, not a corrupted one. I know what Tempering is and I'm pretty glad that Ramuh was very disinclined to do it to those that challenged him. I rather LIKE having my free will!" She offers her empty cup, which she had been sipping from off and on during their conversation, to Bertram, "Yes, thank you."
Bertram Silent "I was never too worried about being tempered, personally." Bertram's demeanor is calm, and adds, "Though I admit I was worried about you offworlders. I have no clue if Tempering could even work on you, or if he'd try." He says this somewhat casually, like it hadn't even occured to him to mention it before. "The beastman tribes and their primals tend to share traits, and the Sylphs never seemed too worrisome. I'd be far more concerned about the Ixali or Amaal'ja Primals."
Kyra Hyral     "Well, given the connection between our land of Ramuh and the Primal here, I think there might've been a chance that the likes of me, Landon, and Souji would have been more easily Tempered than other offworlders. I can't speak for anyone else though. Despite all we did, nowhere did I see Ramuh attempt to Temper anyone with our group. Either he sensed our wills were too strong or he just didn't want to." She shrugs, sipping her newly refilled tea. "Which are the Ixali and Amaal'ja Primals?"
Bertram Silent "Garuda and Ifrit, then there's Titan for the Kobolds, Leviathan for the Sahagin and Bahamut for the Dragons." Bertram looks especially pained as he utters the last name, clearly there's something about Bahamut that doesn't please him, at all. "That's all the ones I know of, there may be others. I'm not a scholar in the field, you'd have to talk to the Archons if you really want to know more."
Kyra Hyral     "Ah, Garuda is a name I'm not familiar with...the others all have a plate counterpart in Galianda." At Bahamut, she shares the grimace, not because of anything from her world, but because she was very aware of what happened in the other Eorzea. "Well, there was Diabolos. But he sure didn't try to Temper anyone. Just straight up murder." Kyra shivers a little at the memory of that thing's enormity of hate baring down on her. "Either way, if you receive more reports of corrupted Elementals, I'll do my best to make it in here to offer my help. Er...my help IS wanted, right? I'm not harshing on somebody's Chosen One groove while I'm here, am I?"
Bertram Silent "Diabolis is a voidsent, not a primal." Bertram clarifies almost immediately, apparently the difference is important. "And look, I didn't ask to be a chosen one. I'm doing this because someone needs to, and apparently I'm well-suited to the task. If you want to help, I welcome it. United we stand, divided we fall. If I hear anything, I'll let you know."
Kyra Hyral     "...oh. Uh. What's the difference between a voidsent and a Primal, then?" comes the inevitable question. "In fact, I don't recall ever getting an explanation on what a voidsent was. Judging by the name, it sounds as if it is a creature from the void, clearly, which would mean you have a Void here."

She relaxes just a little bit. "I do want to help-and not because I'm out to become a famous adventurer in Eorzea or anything like that."
Bertram Silent "Primals, although harmful when summoned, are native to Eorzea. Supposedly summoning just gives them form, I don't know much about the specifics, you ought to ask the Archons if you want to know more." Bertram starts with defining some key trait about Primals, "Voidsent aren't from Eorzea, they're ... demons, fiends, elder evils. That kind of thing. Some are more powerful than others, I'm not sure where Diabolos ranks, but I'm fairly sure he's on one of the lower rungs." Then he shrugs, "If you want to help, it's welcome, as long as you actually want to help and aren't just pretending to while making things more difficult."
