Yari Takane It's a simple plan. Pick off the lower ranking Fleet Daughters, maybe even sink a few to get more allies for the Abyssals. Nevermind recent events have only fueled Yari's desire to see the Daughters brought low. Vengeance by way of proxy, and a way to regain standing in the Confederacy.

Today, the ninja has set up a nice little trap: a cruise liner, emptied of passengers and all but a single Confed soldier keeping the vessel going. It took some certainly illegal deeds to get the boat and make sure it looks legit. And how better to lure out the Fleet than to give them a humanitarian deed to get in on?

Thus, Yari's hid herself within the ship itself this time, using her magitek gauntlet to keep on alert, even as the soldier up in the cabin relays data through the ship's navigation system. And she's not just waiting: A quick ninjutsu has the appearance of sailors and occasional passengers walking the ship. It's a large, tough illusion that won't stand up to scrutiny up close. But by then it'll be too late for her victims.

Now it's time to wait.
Haguro      Haguro's actually looking like she's in good spirits today! A good rest, some successful training, and a scouting mission that's been going well all combined to get her fired up, and she's ready to take on anything! Not that she'd want to take on anything on her own, but... Her training's been going well, hasn't it? A stray Abyssal or two wouldn't be too much trouble at this rate, but...

... What she finds isn't a stray abyssal! Instead, it's... A cruise liner? Those shouldn't be in this area. The Heavy Cruiser skates along the water to get closer to the boat, keeping her turrets pointed away while she waves at the false passengers on board. "Excuse me! I.. Um. I think you should turn back from here! This area isn't safe." She starts glancing around rapidly after she says that, keeping an eye out for incoming Abyssals. Even without any signs of them yet, who knows what could be hiding under the surface?
Yari Takane Haguro's approach gets a blip on Yari's gauntlet, and soon the soldier upstairs is messaging her.

"Miss Takane, we have contact. It looks like a Fleet Daughter, ma'am."

"Good job. Hail her, get her close, then prepare to jump off ship. Can you make it back to the retrieval point?"

"I've got swimming gear."

The soldier then hails Haguro over standard maritime radio. "Hello! Are you receiving? This is Captain Palmer of Cruise Liner Atlantis. Our engine's shot. Can you give us a tug back to port?" There /is/ a line for just that purpose on the front of the ship.

Meanwhile, Yari slips out the opposite side of the ship, away from where she rigged the explosion. The 'captain' already has his diving gear on.

Should Haguro decide to get close to the cruiser, Yari presses a button, an explosion going off on the front side of the ship, shrapnel and flaming pieces of ship lancing out at her even as the explosion threatens to catch her aflame as well! This nicely masks the 'plunk' of our dear soldier-captain leaping off the ship and into the water. Meanwhile, smoke and debris make it hell to actually see things!
Haguro      "You're coming in clear, Captain Palmer. A tug? Ah.. Y-yes, sir. Please brace for movement." It's not what Haguro was expecting to cap off her scouting mission went, but it's still helping people! It's never a bad feeling by the end of the day, at least. "I'll bring you to-"

As she moves in to grab for the line, however, the explosion comes and catches the heavy cruiser off guard! She yelps painfully as the debris and flames fly out at her, some chunks plinking off her armor and others hitting her square in the face. She's not equipped to dodge very well, after all, but she's still standing! Skating. Not sinking.

"Nn... C-captain! What happened?" She calls out in between coughs, trying to wave the smoke off and hunkering down to try and get a better view. She listens closely and tries to get a visual on the captain, scanning the water for his movements.
Yari Takane There's no call from the Captain. Could he be dead!?

The deception falls quickly as Yari moves into position, a quick handseal having her flickering through the smoke and fire. She all but materializes out of the smoke and flame, a kunai held in a hand as she comes down upon Haguro from behind! Should this Yari strike, there will be impact, but nothing horrible: it's simply a clone after all, aiming to shock the already confused Haguro.

Real Yari waits a moment, before attacking Haguro, hand on her umbrella sword. It's a simple piercing attack, aiming to run Haguro through in a simple lunge to where her heart would be if she were a normal human! Worst still, ninja-lightning courses through the blade with a few handseals, turning it into a shocking thrust!
Haguro      That went to hell rather quickly, didn't it? Haguro 's not looking all that pleased as she keeps scanning the water for the Captain, unfortunately leaving her back wide open to the clone's attack. Yelping in surprise as the kunai strikes her and slices one of her shoulder-mounted gun batteries clean off, she whirls around to try and throw the false Yari off!

By then, Haguro's on full alert, and she's... Well, she doesn't react quite in time to stop herself from getting struck. Although she does avoid getting run through completely, she still screams out in pain when that lightning-charged thrust strikes the same arm again. She's not about to go down without a fight, however, and she brings up her uninjured hand to try and fire a volley of shells at the ninja from close range!

"Keh... Wh-who are you? What do you..." Wincing painfully, she gets a better look at Yari and scowls. "... You're the one that attacked the Admiral, aren't you? You won't get away with that!"
Yari Takane The false Yari is easily toss aside, and just after Yari makes her real strike? It poofs in a plume of smoke. But the boat-girl is fast! That cannon whirls around and aims to shoot her through! It succeeds, somewhat, the ninja leaping away and abandoning her sword. With a blast of cannon fire, the ninja's side gets nice and opened up, a bleeding wound showing through her now slightly torn kimono. One eye squinting at the pain, she keeps up the offensive as she lands on the water, magic keeping her afloat.

"You're welcome to try to bring me to justice, then."

Not that the ninja's leaving her much choice! Flicking a trio of shuriken from her sleeves, she tosses them at Haguro's limbs! They're poisoned, with her traditional paralytic fare, but who knows if that will work against a shipgirl!

A few more handseals, and she sucks in a breath! "Katon!" A blazing fireball issues from her mouth, as the ninja tries to once again get Haguro caught up in burning flames! She stays back this time, though. She remembers what happened with the Admiral.
Haguro      Haguro's arm isn't in great shape, the armor and sleeve torn right off just from that initial assault. Luckily, she's still got everything else in mostly pristing condition, and the fire in her eyes shows that she's not afraid to use it. She stares right back at Yari while the guns on her shoulder readjust their angles, and she hunches over a bit as if preparing to move again.

"D... Don't underestimate me! If I try... E-even I can stop you!" And it's time for the projectiles to fly! Shells whiz past the shuriken as she launches another volley at the ninja, seeming more than ready to keep her distance in this fight as well. Yari would need to get close to her if she wanted to strike with that sword again, after all, and she actually manages to avoid most of those shuriken gracefully!

Except for the one lodging itself into the already-injured arm. Still, shuriken are no match for... That's a fireball, isn't it? Haguro's eyes widen just moments before she hunches over with her good arm up with block the blast, shielding her upper body at the cost of yet more armor and clothing being shed from her arm and legs!
Yari Takane Yari can't help but admire the determination in Haguro. Truly, these shipgirls have all to a person proven good opponents. Haguro definitely isn't weak, and the ninja still can't chalk this up to an easy victory even with a successful surprise attack.

Evasive, too, it seems. The ninja smiles as Haguro speaks, but concentrates on her attack for the moment! Those projectiles fire right back, and she's forced to roll, duck, and dodge. Still, one shot grazes her cheek with lovely powder burns, and another gets some flesh off of her thighs.

"On the contrary. You're strong."

The ninja takes a breath. It's not an easy fight, and she's using a lot of magic! Still, she presses on, the water already slightly tinged with blood beneath her. With a motion, something rises from the deep! Another Yari-clone from behind, that tries to wrap around both arms, including the injured one, and /pulls/ back! It will be a physical struggle if Haguro doesn't manage to evade.

The true Yari makes a zig-zagging rush for the Ship Girl, aiming a hard kick just under the chin, risking another blast from those cannons on the way! Her tail curls around a curved knife in her kimono, and aims another stab for the girl, right between the ribs!

If it succeeds, she'll even twist it, the nin-jerk!
Haguro      "Nnh... So that's how you were able to hurt the Admiral so much...!" Still recoiling from the fireball to the face, Haguro shakes off the tatters of her only other sleeve. Even with the damage she's sustained already, she's still looking just as strong and ready to fight as ever!

Except for her other arm hanging uselessly at her side. That one's not in such good shape, but she'll just have to be careful with it until she can put the ninja down. "All of us are strong. But you're... Resorting to using hostages!" She still thinks the Captain was real, doesn't she? Something about that actually provokes her into raising her arm to aim those turrets forward again, and that tunnel vision makes it easy for the clone to grab her from behind!

"Another one?!" She grits her teeth while struggling against the clone, giving ample time for the real Yari to come in and kick her right in the face! Dazed, but not out just yet, she snaps her head forward and tries to whirl around to swing the clone Yari into the real Yari like a makeshift wrecking ball! Not before she takes the knife right in the side, however, screaming out in pain again at that twist.
Yari Takane One arm down, the rest of Haguro to go! Deciding to play things up, the ninja laughs.

"I'll use whatever tactics I need to win." She quips. "You should hurry up and defeat me, then find the Captain, right?"

Even as she gets her stab off, Haguro shows off she knows some CQC! It's not too hard to grab illusion-yari, and use her like a bludgeon! That's a new one, and she's smacked right in the chest with other-Yari, the pair landing in a jumbled, tangled heap of limbs!

Blushing, she dismisses the clone, and uses the brief plume of smoke to leap into the air! A swift handseal, and the water underneath Haguro starts to get stormy! Soon enough, there's a small whirlpool trying to suck in the Ship Girl! Yari's having to get a lot of hang-time, and she can't really dodge up in the air!
Haguro      As much as Haguro hates to admit it, Yari's right. She'll need to take down the Ninja quickly if she wants to rescue the hostage! If he hasn't drowned already, anyway, but that's not the sort of thinking she should be doing now. Plus, she'll need to finish the fight quickly if she wants to get her arm and side treated. She's still got enough armor to keep going for a little while, at least, but if this keeps up...

... No more self-doubting! The Heavy Cruiser readies herself to start taking things to close range, but that tug at her legs keeps her from being able to charge forward. It's taking all of her leg power just to keep herself from being sucked in completely, but she still has an ace up her sleeve!

Or on her wrist, what with the lack of remaining sleeves. Even as she's stuck in place to keep herself above water, she aims her wrist and remaining shoulder turret at Yari. She adjusts the angle on each one to spread out a little bit, then fires a fresh volley!
Yari Takane Yari's eyes go wide as she sees Haguro still standing, and aiming her guns! There's nowhere for her to run, and even as she curls up, it's going to be a rough blast! Cannonfire slices into her body, arm and legs scraped up, and one particularly good shot nearly tearing her tail in half! She falls rather than properly lands, floating lifelessly for a moment before coughing up blood. Pushing herself back to her feet, she's a bloody mess, but equally determined as Haguro to get her opponent down!

The ninja makes for a reckless charge, even as she tries for one more illusion! This time, a body surfaces from the water, a male voice similar to the one Haguro heard gasping out for breath! Yari tosses a trio of orbs, the first a grenade, and the second two poisons aimed at eating away at armor and health! It's heading right for the fake-Captain! What will Haguro do!?
Haguro      Haguro pants heavily as Yari goes down, actually relaxing for a moment when it looks like the ninja is down for good. As she raises her hand to her ear to put out a transmission to the Seaport, however, she notices movement in the water again!

"How are you still...?" She almost sounds impressed, but highly disturbed as she watches Yari coming back up. She's about to bring her arm down to fire again, but the sound of the fake-Captain's voice is enough to distract her momentarily! What's worse, the grenade coming in means... Is the ninja trying to kill the hostage?!

"You...! CAptain, et down!!" Haguro's not looking pleased at all before she starts skating for the fake Captain and, as expected, shielding him from the blasts with her body! She's thrown several yards away, groaning weakly with her clothing and armor alike in tatters. She hasn't quite sunk yet, but she's definitely not in any condition to continue the fight!
Yari Takane "You're not the first...nngh...Fleet Daughter I've fought." Is Haguro's answer as she comes to rest, groaning and shattered! She might notice the 'Captain' fading away into puffs of illusionary magic. The ninja walks over to Haguro, limping and gasping, ankle-deep in the water now.

It was a trick after all. She'll make a handseal, reach down, and pull Haguro up.

"I wonder if you'll sink?" One last stabbing for poor Haguro with a kunai! Thankfully, it's in the stomach area. She leans in, looking Haguro in the eyes as she tries to put Haguro under an illusion! Her tail taps the poor boat's legs, the ninja frowning. Every pain will feel amplified as she works on the poor thing.

"Now tell me everything you know about Hikari, the Fleet, and your patrol routes." She'll get some information out of this one if she has anything to say about it!
Haguro      Even in her injured state, Haguro can still have some comfort that the Captain is safe... Ly disappearing. Because he wasn't real to begin with.

... Well. That's not good. She whimpers lightly as she's pulled up by Yari, reaching up defiantly to try and shove her off even in that condition. Her last attempt at bravery ends abruptly, however, with that knife stabbing into her again and drawing out another pained scream that's only amplified by the illusion she's been put under.

"P.. Please.. Stop this..." She chokes out through tears, casting her gaze aside before finally spilling the beans. The fleet consisting of over 200 girls, the existence of both light and heavy cruisers along with several types of battleships, and even aircraft carriers of varying styles! With a little more prodding, Yari would even learn of existence of manned (or girled?) anti-air defenses around the base. Haguro doesn't have any patrol route information to give beyond her own patrol route, however, but it's probably not going to mean much considering the condition she's in.

It's humiliating, but it's her only shot at staying alive!
Yari Takane Yari mentally jots down the information for her report later. As the shipgirl finally spills it, she nods, looking her over. On the one hand, she doesn't seem to be sinking. Plus she's given information.

A shake of her head, and then she throws Haguro to the water. Yanking out the knife and any other equipment that might be left in her, the ninja sighs. No, killing her outright would only mean more trouble down the line. Keeping her alive will send a statement through the Fleet. Just like her attack on Nagato.

"Sink or live, that's up to your determination now."

Besides, no doubt Haguro's already sent an SoS herself, and the ninja doesn't want to be around for reinforcements. Soon enough, the ninja is off to the pickup point, meeting her soldier 'Captain' as she gets on the Fed transport.

"Well done today. Well done." She says to the man, as they head off and share a drink to victory.
