Toph Beifong     It had been a busy morning with making sure her newest student got settled in, shown the ropes and meet the other students. Once she was certain they were getting on with their lessons she had excused herself for Union business, something Penga and Ho Tun have gotten used to from the last week. Besides, the students don't need her breathing down their necks all the time. It seems they are sufficiently scared enough to not slack off anyway for an hour or two.

So Toph had made her way to Dun Realtai, knowing the way easily enough. Why, she even waves to a few of the guards as she heads in through the gate, sauntering while she listens for any familiar sounds. Doesn't seem like Kepas is anywhere close, nor is that creepy water horse... deep underground though by the hill she does recognise some large and easily identifiable shapes. But let's see where this Reinhardt guy is. There's been so many new people in the Union, and it's hard to keep up with all of them.
Reinhardt Wilhelm     Toph will be greeted by REINHARDT HIMSELF, the massive German having opted to wait in the middle of the village square. He sits cross legged while he downs some tea, a heavy winter coat covering him while his Crusader armor is standing stoic, hammer in hand. The old man reads a book while he waits, the Tale of Don Quixote for those readers curious to see which book.

His hearing's pretty sharp for his age, as the old man grins and shuts the book before he waves at Toph. "Well met, young lady! I've been looking forward to this for quite some time, I'm happy we have a chance to meet at last!" He says, approaching TOph with a hearty chuckle. He observes Toph's movements, studying her curiously. Is she...blind? If so, then her hearing and other senses are really well honed if she can walk without a stick or a guide of some sort.
Toph Beifong     Well, it's pretty hard to overlook such a large man, isn't it? The teenager walks right up towards Reinhardt where he sits with his tea, and she grins when he greets her. "Heya Willy," she speaks up, her voice familiar enough. And indeed, if he does look at her eyes he will easily note that she's not looking at him. Or anything. Her movements are confident however, and she doesn't hesitate as she stops in front of him. "So how are you liking Dun Realtai? A nice place, huh? Except for the cruddy lake, that is," she adds, resting her hands on her hips where she stands, quite short compared to him. Her appearance seems to clash with her mannerisms on the radio so far.

"There are always some new people in the Union, it's hard to meet you all. Not to mention all the stuff I've been busy with lately, with family and my academy and all."
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "Aye, it's like I walked into the era I read so much about as a boy." Reinhardt smiles wide, looking down at Toph as he continues to study her body language, then he holds out a hand experimentally. If Toph manages to take the hand, she'll find his grip is strong and warm, rugged from years of hard work in the army as well as during his service in Overwatch, while not actively attempting to break a young lady's hand in machismo-fueled posturing.

"So then, you wished to see the suit then?" His armor will be standing near the seat Reinhardt was at, remaining stoic with hammer in hand as it keeps vigil. The metal is a very advanced titanium-steel alloy, made in equal shares in Germany and Sweden. It's a well engineered piece of machinery despite being a relic even in Reinhardt's world, and that might make it even more impressive. The Crusader's well worn down from damage repaired ages ago, and it's showing its age in some places, but it's still functional and -damned- effective. Both the suit and the hammer seem to have a number of tech not unlike Stark's own suits, especially with the jet engines built-in.
Toph Beifong     "Yeah, it seems like those legends, huh?" Toph agrees. When he holds out his hand the blind girl immediately reacts, moving her own hand to shake his in greeting, her grip firm despite her small size. Her own hand isn't that rugged, though she does have some calluses on her fingertips at least.

Oh yes, the suit. Toph grins and nods at that, "Seems more advanced than the armour they have here, that's for sure!" Letting go of his hand she moves over to the armour, then reaches a hand out as she places it on the torso. There's a look of concentration on her face, and she lets out a soft 'hmm'.

"It's not exactly new... had it for a while?" she asks, moving her hand a bit and tapping the metal a bit with her fingers. "Seems a bit busted in places..." It's not that she disapproves, rather the opposite. "Lots of people in the Union have a thing for armour like this, huh?" Why, she looks amused. "Titanium... and steel, it feels like."
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "Indeed. I've had the suit for over twenty years or so, back when the first Omnic crisis came about." Reinhardt nods wistfully, running his hand across his grayed hair. "Ahh, I had such hair then..." Before he gets sidetracked, he watches Toph at work curiously. "Hmm, you can sense the construction just from touch? That metal bending of yours is a very impressive technique indeed."
Toph Beifong     "Twenty years, huh? That's a while," she comments. "So you've been fighting for long, then?" At least twenty years. Just how old is Reinhardt anyway?

She gives him a nod at his question. "Yeah, I can sense earth around me, and I can sense vibrations through the earth with my bending. It's basically how I fight." Has he gotten used to so many young people fighting in the Union yet? "Metal is purified earth, so I can see the metal pretty easily in armour..." She sure looks pleased when he praises her bending though, a grin on her lips. "Oh, you should see me when I actually bend it! It's pretty fun in combat, though it took a while to master it. And now I have some students I have to teach too, I can't be the only metalbender in history, you know?"

With that Toph moves her hand over to the hammer, looking rather curious. "So how does this hammer work then?"
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "So you -invented- the technique then? Impressive." Reinhardt nods, moving along to the suit itself. "It provides a gravitational impact field that maximizes the force of each blow, as well as a rocket engine in the back similar to what my suit has, that increases the velocity tenfold! I've been able to crack Omnics the size of a house wide open with just a single blow, thanks to the engine."
Toph Beifong     If Toph looked proud before, it's nothing compared to how her grin now widens. "Yup. And people said metalbending was impossible." Dunderheads.

That actually sounds like some really good tech to have in the hammer. "So it makes you hit things even harder, huh?" she muses, moving her hand to the parts that obviously have the most tech in them. "I have no idea what an Omnic is, but I gather they are sturdy things?" she inquires with curiousity. Now she's kinda curious about just /how/ hard the hammer can hit... "You think you could do a demonstration with it?" It's worth asking. "I can bend some really dense rock for you to smash."
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "They're machines of self-aware intelligence, now they are somewhat a gray area as more peacefully minded beings have come about. I think Genji would be better suited to discuss the religious sect in particular, he spent some time among one of their number, a monk named Zenyatta that helped him with reconciling his cybernetic self." Reinhardt leans against his suit, the armor not budging an inch in the meantime. It's amazing how he manages to look undersized next to it, because it's a solid eight feet tall in total. Then Toph offers a demonstration.

"I would be happy to! Stand back please, if you will." He says, perking up considerably as the suit opens up a la an Iron Man suit for Reinhardt to climb inside. He gets settled within the Crusader as it buttons back up and activates slowly, with a dull rumble as engines whirr to life.
Toph Beifong     Ugh, no religious discussions please. "I'm not really much into spiritual stuff," she confesses with a bored look on her face. Nah, she's more for action and things happening instead of just talking and talking. Especially about stuff that she can't see.

Let's go with the demonstration instead!

Toph does step back slightly as the suit opens up, giving Reinhardt space to get ready. In the meanwhile she raises her foot however, kicking into the ground and making a seven foot earthen pillar rise from the ground with a slight rumble. "Okay, this one is dense, so let's see how you do!" she states with a smile. Oh yeah, this will be fun!
Reinhardt Wilhelm     The suit gets finished warming up, and Reinhardt grasps his hammer with a hearty chuckle. "It's always good to get this suit warmed up...now stand back!" He calls out, not just to TOph, but to villagers who have come by to observe the scene at hand. Popping his neck, Reinhardt gets ready before he lunges towards the pillar, his hammer swung wide and the engine giving it ~just~ enough of a boost to add a little extra flourish to his strike.
Toph Beifong     Huh, that's interesting! Toph steps back a bit further to give Reinhardt more room as he gets ready to strike. And when he does Toph lets out a slow whistle of approval, feeling the pillar utterly shatter underneath the force of the hammer. "Man, that's one hell of a boost, isn't it?" she asks. "What's the hardest stuff you're able to smash with it?" It's a bit hard to judge by the initial demonstration, but it certainly packs a solid punch!

There's suddenly a rumble coming from behind Reinhardt however, and Toph turns her head a bit before she outright /beams/. "Seems we've drawn some attention..." The villagers obviously know the sound as some of them step back, making room for something that /digs/ its way out of the ground. Something /huge/ that towers behind the large man as one large furry head and long, sharp claws dig their way out of the ground with a low rumble that might sound like a growl.

It's pretty hard to do something with the earth around Dun Realtai without the resident badgermoles noticing it.
Reinhardt Wilhelm     OH SHIT

Toph's cousins have joined the proceedings.

Reinhardt is about to request another pillar before he sees the BADGERMOLES! Toph had promised to show them when they met, but he wasn't expecting that to be so quick. "Toph, it seems the settlement has some infestation to speak of!" He calls out with amusement, approaching one of the creatures, hammer slung on his shoulder. "I take it these are the badger moles you mentioned?"
Toph Beifong     A mirthy laugh escapes Toph at Reinhardt's comment, and she shakes her head. "It's no infestation, it's a badgermole!" Because they are not vermin, far from it. The badgermole itself sniffs slightly at Reinhardt as it fully emerges from the ground, easily the size of a bus. It doesn't seem to bother too much with him though, instead it walks on over to Toph, who spreads her arms as the large creature leans down and noses at her with a murring sound. "Missed ya, Mudslinger," she says, scratching the area around its nose. Though the creature does give her a big, sloppy lick in return. The blind girl laughs, not minding the spit, instead she bumps her head against the badgermole's nose.

"I brought them here last spring since Buddyvere liked them, they help out with the fields here. Not to mention they kinda function as guard dogs, I guess. These guys needed to make their own pack anyway, as they were grown up. As long as you don't bother them they're harmless."
Reinhardt Wilhelm     Reinhardt laughs again, his suit opening up to let him climb back out as it reenters standby mode. As he approaches the bagermole, Reinhardt holds out a hand for Mudslinger to sniff at, to get a good feel for his scent. "Interesting, I can imagine they're quite useful to get rid of pests underground as well. Not to mention protecting when nobody expects them."
Toph Beifong     Pulling back from the badgermole, Toph nods and gestures towards Reinhardt. The badgermole named Mudslinger turns a bit towards the knight, then steps on over to sniff at the outheld hand.

"Yeah, they eat bugs and roots, and they usually keep the ground really structured. And their droppings is good for the earth too, especially considering they have fields in the area," she explains. "They do enjoy music, so that's a good way to get positive attention from them. I've told Buddyvere to sing and play the harp for them, I dunno if he does it on a regular basis though."

Mudslinger appears to be done sniffing at Reinhardt, and then it leans close... and gives his torso a big lick unless he steps away.
Reinhardt Wilhelm     Reinhardt doesn't even flinch, instead he just laughs and gives Mudslinger a gentle pet along the head, scratching his ears softly. "Hahaha, do the others have names yet?" He says, grinning as he toys with Mudslinger's fur some. He seems to really like the Badgermole already by the looks of it.
Toph Beifong     "They all have names of course," Toph replies. "You have Boss and Stinky who are back in Gaoling, that's the town I come from back in the Earth Kingdom, then you have Crawler, Rootsnuffler, Rockbrains, Rumblesnout and all the others." Yeah, she's real creative with the names. "They are the best creatures in the entire multiverse, no question about it!" Big, friendly blind creatures who dig in the ground? Mudslinger certainly doesn't seem aggressive as he turns and begins heading back towards the hill, not minding most of the people there, though he does rumble when some of the children of Dun Realtai walk up to him, sniffing at them before he continues on.

"So are you and the other Overwatch people staying here then? I have only talked with most of you people on the radio," Toph explains.
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "Only myself and Brigitte, so far. I've yet to invite Tracer and Genji here as well." Reinhardt shakes his head, letting Mudslinger go. "I admit I only came out of curiosity; as a child I read about the stories of Arthur and his knights, so when I met Bedivere, I could not resist." He admits, chuckling. "I'm sure you can forgive an old man for wanting another item crossed off his bucket list."
Toph Beifong     "Being curious isn't a bad thing, that's how I ended up with the Union myself," Toph says with a shrug. "Besides, if you don't check stuff out then how are you going to learn? Just staying in the same place is boring as crud, and you never get to develop your skills and experience new stuff." Trust her, she speaks from experience.

"So what /is/ on your bucket list then?" Heck, now she's curious. What does an old guy like Reinhardt want to do in life anyway? Maybe she should make her own bucket list...
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "Get an autograph from Hasselhoff, I LOVE Knight Rider!" Reinhardt says without missing a beat, grinning like an idiot as he says so. "He was huge back in the day in Germany, you see. Around the time the Berlin wall came down if I remember right, but it's been a while since I had a history book on me."
Toph Beifong     Okay, maybe it's bescause she's blind and doesn't see the value of autographs, quite literally, but Toph merely arches an eyebrow at that. "An autograph." Isn't that an actor or something? And what, a wall? What wall? If Jarvis knew exactly what Toph was thinking he might insist on her revisiting the brief history lessons she was given after she was adopted. "You should make a more exciting bucket list, no offense..." she suggests. "What about doing something /fun/ and silly?"
Reinhardt Wilhelm     "I've gotten most of those done already, I'll have to get my list together and send it sometime." Reinhardt says, showing he's not at the least offended over it. "That said, I'm always looking for new things to add onto it. Meeting the Fleet the other day did make me wonder, possibly retrofit my suit to work with their technology could be a nice addition."
Toph Beifong     "Well, then you should keep on adding new stuff to the bucket list, yeah. Do whatever you can and enjoy life, isn't that what it's all about?" Toph asks with a big smirk. It's funny how he mentions technology. "My adoptive father has a suit that is sort of like yours, I guess. I dunno if you've seen it yet, though the Union database should have some images of it," she points out. "Then you have Defiant and Dragon, they have some pretty cool stuff too if you like tech and want to compare suits."
