Nobeard     The city of Storngate is quite an interesting one, and well-defended as well. It hasn't fallen to pirate attack at all in many a year... and for good reason. The harbor of the island has two ridiculously not-geographically-correct clifflike walls, making entry and exit contingent upon the gates being open, and the navy not bombarding the entrance with cannonfire. It has numerous interesting artifacts and treasures within the city, having made a name for itself as a secure place for such things.

Discreetly, through various underground methods and pirate hangouts, notes and rumors had spread that on a certain day, at a certain time, the gates would be open and the navy would be occupied, largely, with something else, leaving a specific route from the west open. There wasn't much worry that someone would take it... the winds at that time of day, from that direction, were very unfavorable for approaching at any speed. Yet the idea was pretty clear: several ships together could get in, loot, and get out before the navy could respond, if they didn't get too greedy.

Anyone deciding to meet up at the rumored location will find a large ship already there, bearing the flag of Nobeard: A closed eye surrounded by ten open eyes. Of course, starships might need to fly low...
Flint Hawke     A small ship scoots on by the rumored location, boldly heading right towards the city of Storngate. That ship has a very specific name that will not be revealed until the GM's pose, more likely than not, to anyone but its Captain and its crew. It does have some weapons on the outside and it's painted a smooth grey color to look unobstrusive.

"You see, ladies. Your Captain's a bit of a genius. Bit of a free-thinker. Bit of an innovator. This plan'll work like a charm, never see it comin', they will, and we're gonna get a head start on the looting going on in them rumors. First to the joint, yeah." Flint says in the command seat on the bridge. It's such a small ship it only crews 3-5 people, making it a pretty easy affair.

Despite the bold claims of the Captain, the ship doesn't rush in or even seem ready for battle. Instead, it's going at a slow, steady, casual pace.
Laer     Artifacts are just the sort of thing that can catch Laer's attention, though she's going to be coming without a ship. She figures she can just sneak along with someone else, and then find some choice bit of magical device that noone else will miss. Because they won't know they had taken it.

This plan will change - slightly - when the elf notices a familiar ship at the location that she arrives at. She'll try and make her way up onto the Beholder's ship, floating alongside for a few minutes with her hands raised. "Ahoy, there!" Laer speaks many, many languages, but she's going to have to fake it with 'pirate'.
Yagami Hayate The full Wolkenritter hasn't come along this time. No, it's just Hayate and Vita... and Reinforce, who is there to Unison with Hayate when the time comes. Life as a freewheeling pirate has certainly changed her. While still kinder than most of the crew, and helpful and all that, she's had to take a harder edge in the Multiverse... and that includes dressing in torn shorts and a dark top, with a jacket over it. She does not, however, have an eyepatch.

Hayate is staying mostly quiet and chatting with Reinforce, but Vita is the one peering out with the Captain. "Huh. You really think it'll work?"
Nobeard     "AHOY!" That's Jack, the first mate, waving to Laer while he's scanning the other ship with a spyglass. Good enough for him! The First Mate recognizes the elf and waves for her to land on the ship if she wants, then turns to say something to a crewman. They're on the radio in a moment, arranging a general nonaggression idea with Flint if they can.

"Good to see you again, lass," Jack greets in not so stereotypical pirate speak. "Here's the deal. You can take whatever loot you like, so long as we get what we came for. It's nothing you'd be interested in I think. But you can keep any of the fancy art and jewels you want. We're here for something specific."

The ship is already plowing through the waves at an unnatural speed for having the wind against it. Which makes storming through the gates so incredibly, laughably easy that it's amusing. However, even if the bulk of the navy is gone, there's still a few ships here.

On board the lead defender, the spyglass is lowered. "Er..."

    "Well, who is it?"

"Some ship called the One-Eyed Jack and Don't worry, it's on our side."

    "What?"

    "No, that's the second ship."

"What do you mean? What's the name of the second ship?"

"Don't worry, it's one of ours!"

    "But WHICH one of ours?!"

    "No, that's the-"

"FIRE!" Cannonfire opens up at the naval vessels, cutting the argument short. They're moving to intercept now, but seem in disarray!
Flint Hawke     It takes Flint a few moments to respond to Vita, mostly because he's on the phone with the First Mate to arrange the terms of aggression, "Fair deal, fair deal. If you want your share of the loot to include such a thing, that seems like a fine trade." He comments before putting his radio down again.

"In theory, it should work. They'll see us and call out 'Who is that ship?' 'Don't Worry, It's On Our Side' 'Oh, well let them through'. If we're lucky, it's a free pass into the city."

Flint, as it turns out, is not lucky. Cannonfire opens up and a few heavy shots zip off the exterior armor of his small vessel, rocking Flint in his chair, "Oi. Who actually fires on a ship named 'Don't Worry, It's On Our Side'?" There MIGHT be a reason he gets along a bit better with the younger cross-section of the Wolkenritter, despite his distinct fondness for Signum.

He crosses his arms, "I guess we ought to fire back and take evasive maneuvers. Show 'em, the power of the Black Sun Freelance Space Enthusiasts!"

He looks over his shoulder to Hayate before asking, "Oi, lass. You feeling up to a bit of that magic you do? Don't wanna strain you if you just wanna play the helm today." Despite his childish nature, Flint still knows Hayate's health had serious issues for a long time and doesn't want to strain her too much, even so long after she started her path to recovery. Flint stamps a foot to the deck and there's a ripple of strange energy from him.

Outside, the damaged armor and dented hull of the 'Don't Worry, It's On Our Side' begins to uncrinkle and revert to its standard shape and structure, Flint's Pure starting to revert the damage as the crew figures out how to handle this.
Yukihana Masamune     "Um. Ahoy?"
To her credit, Yukihana Masamune at least gave it a shot. The silver-haired kitsune just always seems so out of place on the One-Eyed Jack. Oh undoubtedly she knows welcome and feels at home with the crew, and has grown to be completely comfortable on the spelljammer ship with it's odd assortment of bodies. But that really doesn't change the fact that she sticks out like a sore thumb... Between the ornate kimonos and being suck a stickler for propriety and all, even around pirates.
That greeting was to Laer though! Jack seemingly not the only person to recognize her, AND Yukihana already on deck with Jack. The fox has her sea legs now though, not even losing balance as the ship starts cutting for the gate and canonfire begins.
"Ah... Good sir Jack, shoulde we be worried?"
A good question to ask. She FEELS worried.
Thankfully it's distracted by squinting at the other ship. Flint's, that is. "... I'm sorry, what is the name of that ship?"
Laer     Laer will grin at Jack, landing next to the first mate as he greets her. "It's hard to pass up on a deal like that." She'll say, agreeably without actually agreeing just in case the thing they want turns out to be something that she wants enough to risk having to deal with Nobeard later. Probably won't be, but one never knows. "I'm not really all that interested in jewels in general, but it would be nice if there were some worthwhile art."

She'll watch the few defending ships, making a noise in the back of her throat as the cannonfire starts. She won't complain, of course, but she's going to float a couple of inches over the deck, just in case it starts rocking to and fro. She's got too much dignity to end up taking a spill these days when she doesn't have to.
Yagami Hayate "I can handle it, Captain! Vita... keep an eye on the ship while I do the casting!" Hayate hurries forward while the ship opens fire on hers, and she grabs hold of the rail. "Reinforce! Unison in!" She's repressing the urge to wave to Laer at least...

The silver-haired woman nods, "Of course, Master." Shimmering brightly, she merges with the smaller girl, immediately aging her up to a more sturdy-looking teenager instead of the child she was. The book that appears by her side opens up and starts to flip through.

In a slightly different, older voice, Hayate says to Flint and Vita, "This will take a little longer to cast, hold them off?"

"Tridents of Poseidon, gather from the sea...!" The first part of the aria has begun!
Nobeard     Most of the cannon fire is on the Jack, rather than the smaller ship that Flint has brought. The trick was not one that gave him luck, it seems... though the navy is in wild disarray right now. This makes them... way easier to evade, but getting OUT could be a problem. At the moment, though, they aren't too much of a threat compared to the militia that is scrambling to get into gear.

Nobeard floats out onto deck, one eye trained on the floating elf. "Aye, lass, it be good to see ye" Another eye is on Yukihana. "And you little fox. This be a gift for ye. A year on me ship be a long while."

Jack barks out, "All right! Quick in and out this time! Grab what you want, boys... but we're heading for the Sacred Forge! You be knowing what to do there!" The crew spills out, but they're going to need backup to cut through the militia, or to just bust through. The ship itself crashes into the docks without a care in the world.

Aside from the Sacred Forge, there's a library, and a number of banks and vaults. There are probably a lot of other items, but they're all heavily defended.
Flint Hawke     "You got it, lass." Flint says to Hayate, making sure to angle the ship so that the meager fire they're getting pelted with isn't coming down on Hayate, but a different section of the ship.

"Oi, Miss Vita. Thinkin' you can do some of your shields from inside?" He asks curiously as he adjusts the ship. A few slots open along the side of the hull and bright red streaks of energy-weapon cannons fire back, trying to counter-attack the cannons that are targetting the 'Don't Worry, It's One Of Ours'.

"So Vita, I've been thinkin." Flint begins commenting casually, "Is there anything more traitorous than a wooden axe handle?" Flint asks her a bit boredly. It's time for Flint to ask ostensibly philosophical questions, it seems, as he buys time for Hayate.
Yagami Hayate "Of course I can!" Vita chirps, smirking in that overconfident manner of hers. It's a little more of a drain on Hayate, but she is pretty sure they'll take care of that soon enough. "Just get us closer in so we can hit the militia! Heh... piece of cake. See if you can find a mage squad. I'll take care of those."

Hayate is still chanting quietly, the ship shuddering. "Sighs of the silver snow, come from yonder!"
Laer     "Oh, well! It's good to be seen. Things have been busy lately, no time to plunder like I used to." Laer will sigh, nostalgically. "So it's good to get out here, really." She'll turn towards the docks as the ship crashes through it. But she's going to split off from most of the group, not going to the Forge nor to the banks or vaults.

No, she's going straight to the library, and she doesn't intend to return anything. There will be a lot of overdue letters in her future, perhaps. The elf's immediately going to start looking for anything valuable, rare, magical, magically rare, rarely magical, valuably magical, or valuably magically rare, in ascending order of priority. She is not going to stop for any pencil-pushing librarian, either.

She'll even sing to herself as she goes through, for maximum obnoxiousness.
Yukihana Masamune     And there's the captain himself. When the Beholder floats above deck, Yukihana draws a breath and...
"Captain on the deck." She announces. It's not quite a bark, but she makes sure to be loud enough for the Jack's crew abord the top deck to all hear it. Technically Jack's job but she doesn't step on his toes when it comes to actually ordering the lot to get to work pillaging.
It is what Nobeard says that pauses her from joining them though; a surprised almost chirp=like noise is her first response, staring right back at the eye-stalk swivelled her way. "Wh-what? That is why we are here--...?"
Yukihana Masamune goes from being as pale as snow, to a bit of a cherry red shade. She bows deeply. "... Thank you captain. I will earn it."
She is not hurried unboarding though. She actually casually strolls off the ship, hands folded together in the sleeves of her kimono. Though she does not sully her hands by getting into a direct fight with militia. It might look odd, how she can casually stroll through what is essentially now a battlefield, along the docks, but picks a suitable target of opportunity. She draws another breath as she stops in front of a dockside warehouse.
And lets it all out in a plume of snowy white-colored fire. It's still fire though, which means this presents the local defenders with the choice of either actually defending, or having to deal with fire control. At least that's her basic and poorly thought out plan anyway.
Nobeard     FLINT AND CREW: The shields that Vita raise make it harder for the crossfire to have much of an effect, though they'll still rock the ship. There IS a contingent of battle mages lining up and starting their spells, though they haven't set them off yet. They're near the warehouses of figurines that have been colected and stored. Could be worthwhile. Flint's ship can slide in there if he wants.

Nobeard's crew is having some trouble getting to the forge, since MOST of his crew is on his ship defending it! Some of the attackers get a break though... Yuki setting fire to the nearby building brings some of them out to organize fire control, even if a lot of the people actually bailing water onto it are going to be civilians. This is ANOTHER distraction though. A bit of one for Jack, too, however, as he follows with Yukihana at Nobeard's silent eyestalk-gesture. "Push on through if you can, boys, and load it up!" The entire Forge? Probably he means just the furnace, the important part. Aren't those supposed to be built in, though?

Unfortunately, actual 'magical' books are not available, as the librarian fumbles out. However, Laer can have her choice of rare tomes /about/ mystical theory, or rare tomes of history, or rare... sheet music. They're in different sections, so she has to pick one.
Flint Hawke     There's a lot of places Flint could be steering the ship while he maneuvers it to avoid Hayate taking much more fire than necessary while trying to also give Vita what she wants. He's not sure where Mage Squads would be located, but Flint does know what the best target (by democratic vote of ship members currently deployed) would be.

So instead of the bank, the magic shop, or those warehouses of figurines...

Flint instead brings the ship to stop over the first Sweet's Shop he can find and activates a tractor beam that pulls the roof and contents of the building into his hull slowly. Things made with REAL SUGAR are incredibly valuable in Space Tortuga. Plus, you know, his most influential cast members are Hayate and her Wolkenritter.
Yukihana Masamune     Mischief managed. Mischief has baan managed.
And Yukihana pointedly picked a warehouse because it was likely to be empty. So in theory no one gets hurt unless they run inside to save their material goods. The fox leaves the civilians to their bucket work unmolested. Thus she turns to Jack.
    "Shall we?"
Oh it looks like she's going to meander towards the forge to watch that get loaded up.
Laer     Laer will tsk at that. A lack of magical books means that she's made a poor choice and robbed a sub-standard library. Which she'll state out loud, in a voice too condescending to transcribe to mere text.

The decision is not too tough from there, though! Magical theory and musical theory are equally likely to lead to magic breakthroughs for the elf, and music's way more fun. Rising up to merely mortal condescension levels, she'll sigh. "Fine, fine. Point me to the music section?" She'll ask the librarian, as though it weren't a heavily implied threat.
Yagami Hayate Hayate is finishing up her own little task... mainly, casting that final spell. The same one she's been working on. The silver-haired older version of the mage is lifting her voice up... "Skein of surges, gather in the sky!"

"HEIMDALL!"

With a roar, the gathering magical energy is unleashed, and the water swirls about the harbor to solidify into a massive, crystalized piece of ice. The huge iceberg splashes down, sending icy floes onto the other ships and a huge wave, not to mention incapacitating cold to freeze them over.

"That should buy us some time," she says quietly.

Vita smirks, and as the captain heads off to get sweets, the redhead is blazing in a red streak toward the mages, laying into them with her hammer, but cushioning the impacts. "Hold still! This won't hurt /too/ much!" Her idea is to drain a Linker Core or two.
Nobeard     This has got to be the weirdest raid the city has heard about. The first time they've been subject to pirates, and Storngate does not have the gold vaults robbed, but instead... well.

The sweets shop was UNDEFENDED because who robs a sweets shop like that? Candies start to rush in, while the navy is sent tumbling and some capsizing, forcing those more fortunate to come to the rescue of their comrades. This lets Vita streak over and lay into the mages, who might get a few simple attack spells off to hurt her, but they are largely outmatched. The city largely relies on their navy, not their militia.

Laer's situation has the librarian staring, not sure if she's horrified at the choice, or pleased that this 'criminal' has a sense of culture. "Ah... that way." Many of them will be just 'rare but not hard to get,' but there will be some well-preserved originals and extremely hard to find sheafs and scores, along with some books like 'musical theory of the Ancient Draconans' and such.

Yukihana serenely approaches the forge, which is finally getting broken into. The fighting here is a bit worse, requiring Jack to step in personally and keep the soldiers at bay for a few minutes with his spear while the crew unbolts and just carries the 'Sacred Furnace' out. Whelp.
Laer     "Thank you, then." She's not necessarily super familiar with the music of this area, but she can tell what's good and what isn't. The musical theory books are going into her arms, as are a few of the more interesting scores; she'll leave the originals behind, though, out of worry that they would become damaged in the cannonfire outside.

Once she's made her selections, she's going to look for a window with a view of where the ship was, then take a step using one of her easier line-of-sight teleports, landing back.

Easy, and no guards. Libraries might have to move up her list of targets down the line.
Flint Hawke     "Ladies~. You heard the nice chap on the radio. Our freelance sweet enthusiasm may not be welcome much longer. I believe the time shall soon arrive to depart."

Flint is tempted to head down to the cargo hold and take some of the sweets for himself, but he can't peel himself from the helm of the ship to go do so. Trusting Vita to be able to find her way back (she's a tough girl who could probably kick his ass on her own, really), Flint starts to steer the starship towards an exit.

"Wouldn't want to overstay what's courteous, after all."

He doesn't say much about Hayate's game-changing spell. Then again, his strategy for dealing with Hayate is to treat her like an average girl, rather than someone with world-shattering powers. So he mostly just asks, "You alright up, there, lass? Okay with us leaving with just the sweets?"
Yagami Hayate Hayate lowers her arms, then calls down, "That's fine! It'll be something different for Chikade! You know how she hates normal sweets!" The girl doesn't like candy bars, but nice chocolates would be different, and might cheer her up.

With Hayate about finished and a call to get the move on out, Vita only has time to drain two or three Linker Cores. Piddly stuff, by the standards of her usual input, but enough to sustain and satisfy the Eternal Ring. "Yeah yeah, we're on the way."
Yukihana Masamune     Yukihana approaches. She watches... But she does ont leave everything up to Jack.
There is a moment when the fighting gets rough, that she seems to squint. Watching the defenders. Taking keen note of their patterns, how their weapons are put to use, silently and quietly watching from the back row how they work. Before she steps in.
In a flash her own katana is drawn, quick as lightning and quiet as a whisper. She intends not to cut men down, but to strike at the weakest points of their weapons and disarm them through destruction of their arms. But with that handled she steps back again, and with the forge properly thefted, she... Takes the most suitable means of escape to jet back to the One-Eyed Jack.
A tiny white fox clutching a sheathed katana in its jaws hops up, and starts skittering and scrambling along ice, once the massive iceberg crashes and sends ice everywhere.
She hops on a big chunk and rides it as it slides along the docks, skidding back up the Jack's ramp.
Nobeard     Nobeard's crew has no qualms about killing people for this, but they also know Yukihana tends to prefer more bloodless battles, so they're at least trying to keep casualties from happening. With Yuki's help, Jack manages to rout the troops long enough for the crew to tote that furnace out!

Laer has it super easy. There are shouts and angry motions, but really, she chose the easiest target. Possibly the one worth the least monetarily... but for her needs, these are probably very valuable. Blipping back on the ship has Nobeard there waiting, blinking at the elf. "Heh. Getting to be an honorary crew member, at this rate. Enjoy the ride in?" He doesn't have a problem with her hitching a ride, she's helped him enough in the past.

Vita gets a smattering of spells thrown her way, but once the mages realize they're being left alive, that kind of hurts their enthusiasm for hurling everything they have at the girl. This will give her time to get away.
