Scene #4596: Not on a boat

Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli was sitting on the couch, her legs hugged up to her chest. She was on season 4, now. She was really making steady progress through Camp Pining Heart. She'd actually not been by much since... well, the incidents. With Steven's mom. But she said she'd come back and she'd meant it. Besides, she had a bunch more episodes to see. She just had to make sure Pearl wasn't home before she did it. And now she was sure. She gave a light yawn before she started up the next episode. Her thoughts wandered back to what that creature had said. Was it right? Protecting Steven had been the most important thing. But doing that to him... no, even then it wasn't right. She couldn't. She wouldn't. Not after what she'd been through. But what if she did lose him?
Steven Universe	Steven wakes up with a biiiig yawn and stretch, wanders past Lapis and the TV without showing any sign of awareness and to the bathroom. Perhaps a minute later with slightly more consciousness and freshly-washed hands, he waves hello. "Hey, Lapis, I-aaaaawn- I didn't know you were here..." He blinks blearily at the screen, then collects a blanket and makes his way to the couch. "Can I watch too?" He clearly should be in bed still, but doesn't seem to want to go back.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli nodded and, within a few moments, he'd find himself scooped up and held firmly into her lap. "Of course, Steven. You know I've always got time for you," She said with the gentlest of smiles, before looking back towards the television. It was a strange episode, at least in her mind. "Steven, do humans often put gems in their ears like that? It seems like such a silly thing to get so worked up about. They aren't even gems like you and I." Well, she supposed there were no gems like he. She watched for a few more minutes, resting her head on his. "Steven, how many friends do you have?"
Steven Universe	Steven settles in with a sleepy sorta smile. "I have lots of friend! Ummm... I don't think I can count everybody right now..." He does seem a bit unfocused. "Oh, yeah, gems in their eaaaawn... their ears... Umm, I dunno, maybe they think Gems are really great like I do, and want to pretend to be like them? Also, they're pretty." He snuggles in and keeps watching, though his eyelids are heavy and he can't seem to focus well.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli looked down at him, going quiet. "If... you... thought they might die and... the only way to be sure they'd be safe, would you trap them all? Just to be sure?" she asked softly, her hands tightening around the tired lil puff ball. He was like a rounder, puffier Peridot. "Oh! I have developed a new thing of humor of the humans!" She concentrated for a few moments and then... she belched.
Steven Universe	Steven blinks, blinks, then starts giggling. The random burp was just the funniest thing he has ever heard! By the time he gets it under control, hiccups have begun! It's such an odd thing, the involuntary gasps of air, but it only lasts a little bit before it also passes. All of that seems to have worn him out further, and he sleepily mumbles. "Gah... keep safe... friends..." It doesn't sound incredibly coherent.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli nodded, staring down at him. "So... if it... you'd keep them all safe by any means, even if they didn't like it? Even if it meant... they couldn't... always be with the ones they wanted to be?" she asked so softly, her grip tightening a bit on him. Steven was so smart. If he thought it was the right thing to do, then maybe she was wrong. Maybe taking him away from all this was the best thing she could do.
Steven Universe	"Mmm, don't take away... love... family..." Long moments pass, the episode slowly playing out, before he emits any other noises but soft breathing. "Protect... together..." The words may be meaningless, or maybe he's trying to form thoughts in that twilight between consciousness and sleep. Either way it seems like maybe he doesn't have more to offer right now, judging by the soft snores and moderate drooling.
