Samira Amirmuaz     WESTERN UNITED STATES, PRECINCT 2, 1300 HOURS...

The Avenger whooshes over the desert floor at impressive speeds before finally setting down in Death Valley... far from the cities and ADVENT scanners. It seems like the engines were working like a dream now, thanks to the operatives. Yet the work that Samira would have to ask from said operatives had only just begun.

Once the call had been put out, four of the official XCOM soldiers had gathered down in the armory to get prepping. One of them, at least, would be instantly recognizable: Magdelena Martinez was back, the new Shinobi of the unit, looking over her machete with a bloody grin that might have been a little... disconcerting. Joining her was the new Sharpshooter, Philipe DeGaspard, the ex-EXALT Frenchman. DeGaspard gets a flashbang, while Magdelena picks up a frag. Surprisingly, neither of the two rookies look particularly concerned or worried. More... concentrated.

Once they were all ready and the others had arrived, it was on to the Skyranger with the others while Central helpfully relayed their mission.

"We recieved word from a Resistance informant that ADVENT has some kind of device uploading data on the ADVENT Network. The informant is currently hiding in the AO - you are to meet with them to recieve the location of the device, find it, and destroy it. Any hostile contacts in the AO are to be eliminated with extreme prejudice. Good luck, Menace 1-5."

The flight doesn't take too long - bless the Skyranger's speed - and when it comes to a stop and drops the ropes, the group finds themselves in a rather well-off looking suburb. There's plenty of one- and two-storey houses, a lot of greenery and holographic displays... some displaying what appears to be WANTED posters of various members of today's operation. The Skyranger leaves them in a street behind one of the two-storeys, with a street leading north and a small alley leading west... sadly, the way north is currently being guarded by one of those security-screening lampposts that everyone had fun with on their first day here. Judging by the coordinates they'd been given, the informant is in the building in front of them, but there's no access on this side, unless they wanna smash some windows...
Alexis Maaka     "Copy, Central. We'll get it done." Maaka says tersely. She's packing her EM GASH as usual, the advanced, SCAR-H esque rifle looking more like an ADVENT made weapon than anything in XCOM's armory. ReGenesis tech is great like that, after all. Her helmet hides a scathing glare to Martinez, already wary of her presence on the team today.

For a backup gun, mostly in case CQB becomes an issue, she's packing a combat shotgun with a collapsible stock, micro red-dot and smart link, as well as an adjustable choke as it sits comfortably on her armor's back.

Clearly wanting to be first off the aircraft, she hops off the Avenger with her EM rifle raised, securing the landing zone before she stacks up behind cover at one of the two-story buildings. She takes a peek out at the target building, using her advanced optical software to scan the immediate area for hidden hostiles.
Courier Six     Johnny... is keeping his promises, today. He was going to watch over these kids and keep them safe. And thus, he's sighting up near the Sharpshooter, his bulky frame offering a better shot to people than the Frenchman, for one. The Riot Gear's helmet mic crackles, and the lenses can be heard operating, zooming. "Tracking targets. Not seeing anything yet, Croissant." A pair of... very heavy looking pistols hang at his side. One's his 10mm, and the other is... uh, That Gun. You know the one.
Rory White Given the low capacity of the Skyranger, Rory 'Seraph' White cannot afford to bring her main force of drones. They're largely in repair anyways after being thrashed several incidents ago...

She does stand out in the seats though, given she's wearing shamelessly skin-tight pearly-white armor - whatever it's made of, the fibers are tougher than steel but perfectly flexible, and even has room for circuit-pattern embedded decorations that glow a faint blue. It vaguely resembles the appearance of inhabitants from The Grid. Meanwhile, her hair's been bound up in a ponytail to keep it from getting into her face. She's carrying a rifle, a pistol, and a belt full of grenades and Nanobandages... and as she hops out of the Skyranger, the bluenette holds up what looks like a silvery frisbee!

... Which whirs, spins, and quietly rises sloooooowly into the air, hugging buildings and staying low.

This Saucer drone's her eyes in the sky, but given Stealth needs she can't let it fly where it might be seen! Thus, its coverage is limited...
Kotone Yamakawa So here was Kotone often known as Samsara, she was wearing the light stealth armour she was known to in combat. It was something she didn't even think about much if at all anymore. She had an old first war XCOM battle rifle slung over her shoulder and several grenades on her armour's webbing appeared to be old style alien grenades. She was currently followed by a GREMLIN which was clearly a loner from XCOM.

She'd liked the look of the newbie and was ready to roll as they arrived. She left the skyranger out and she looked to see one of the security lampposts. Seriously a light asking for your ID? What the hell was that, seriously. Kotone does make to cloak and start ready to go with the GEMLIN following along as she takes look at the lamp post. She's also trying to keep to cover too as she figures out how they are going to hack it. She knows she's not the only one with hacking skills here too so it might be better for her to give cover to whoeever does the hack.
Ainsley     Being the only one of the squad that didn't at least appear human, Ainsley was on her best behavior so that she didn't make the locals nervous. She has dealt with fantastical racism a lot over the few years she's been in the Multiverse and she makes it a point to keep a patient smile on her face even on the tense flight to the mission. The distrust is met with that same patience... because she does sympathize with them. There's no reason to trust a complete stranger that's not even human when everything you're taught points to alien beings wanting to kill you.

Once everyone touches down, she hopes out of the Skyranger and takes a quick look around, keeping her head down. She's pretty tiny compared to most people in the group, so her profile won't stick out when she eventually does find cover. The cover she chooses is a little odd-- she manages to scurry up the side of a nearby building, avoiding the windows, and onto a rooftop, where she tucks herself in just behind the solar panels situated on top. It takes a surprisingly short amount of time for her to cover the distance, though that's because she can actually fly and moving requires little to no effort on her part because of it.

She turns her attention to the security scanners that act as blockades to proper progress. She activates her Arcane Sight and focuses on them directly. Expecting them to be computerized, she opens her metal-plated book -- carried with her at all times during important situations -- and flips to the section of spells she uses for computer code, transmissions and the like.

A lightless glow of blue fire erupts from the book as she begins casting spells, in an attempt to hack the security scanners from a distance. The effect is invisible -- not much different than how a GREMLIN might do it, though it's magic and not technology. She's trying to shut down local security, directly interfering with the code in order to do that. Whether that's a built-in function she discovers or something she has to engineer manually might change how difficult it is for her.
Staren     Staren's in his usual armor. It looks to be of a similar tech level to ADVENT's gear, but is of a different design. Racism makes him... not sad, just disappointed. Still, he supposes someone can be forgiven when they've grown up being subjugated by aliens on an Earth with only humans. As long as, y'know, they learn.

He follows the others into cover. <"Is there /any way/ ADVENT sensors haven't already detected our arrival? It seems like maybe we should just be trying to smash and grab before they show up...">
Samira Amirmuaz      Rory and Maaka's scans are helpful, but for now they're not picking up much of anything. ADVENT forces are probably here defending the device, but from where they're currently sitting, there's nothing in view. Better be cautious.

DeGaspard's eyes narrow in annoyance at the nickname that's being forced on him by Johnny, and he makes what would probably seem to be a rude gesture with two of his fingers. Following that, he goes up to the second floor after Ainsley, using a convenient drain pipe to get the high ground position. His rifle - appearing to be pretty close to a Barrett .50 - gets set up against one of the solar panels to wait. Martinez, on the other hand, goes right for the alleyway, coming out near a door leading into the house while she grips her shotgun eagerly. "Door," she reports tersely. "No sign of the informant."

Kotone, Johnny, and Staren all take positions, but Ainsley is trying to work some of her (literal) magic against the security pylon. It takes a moment, but eventually it recieves the command, and the pylon turns off.

Suddenly, there's an intrusion into her mind, a sudden flash of information. She's looking through someone else's eyes, in a different house, staring at an object that looks like a large, spinning spear head, seperated into two prings, made of black and gold metal. There are two ADVENT soldiers not wearing the standard black or red, but rather bright green, carrying a mag cannon, and another one next to him, wearing blue, armed with the normal ADVENT rifle.

The vision fades out as suddenly as it came, and now, suddenly, there's a group of three ADVENT troopers, and a pair of tiny little drones hoving after them, coming into view in the main street in front of the house.
Ainsley     Ainsley jolts, something that might be spooky for DeGaspard since he's practically right near her up there. She drops down behind her cover and sets down her book, clutching her head for a moment. She swallows after murmuring, "O-oh, that's different..." She then speaks over the radio, "I've located the source of the signal, and the location of ..." A pause. She's not sure if it WAS an ADVENT. "Three ADVENT soldiers. One in green, one in blue, and a third I could not identify. I'll transmit their approximate locations."

She opens her book again and sends the appropriate information to her tech-based allies so they can overlay the rough locational information for everyone. "There..." Then she looks back over her cover and stares toward the ADVENT squad that just ambled up into visible range. She watches from where she is for now, because she's entirely a melee soldier and not about to get in the middle of a bunch of people with firearms without first understanding how they fight.
Courier Six     Johnny angles a bit to get a better view of the situation, and grumbles. "Man, next time I bring Boone for this. Really splatter some assholes. A look around to the others, and he settles into a crouch at the edge of the building, continuing to peek with his visor. Gotta be careful they're not getting snuck up on themselves, after all.
Alexis Maaka     Maaka opts to head past the second floor, unlike DeGaspard. Using her suit's paramagnetic grappling pads, she climbs up the wall like a friendly neighborhood spider...person, of sorts. Her camo switches on, not just making her appear invisible to sensors, but also to the naked eye through adaptive camouflage. She's practically a chameleon right now, as she heads to the rooftop to provide overwatch from above.
Staren     Staren suggests that he could stay here and ambush this group so it can't help the others, but it seems people want to take them down first, even if it puts the target on alert. Staren wasn't expecting a plan of 'fight them, and hope they don't realize we're major resistance', but, okay. He starts making his way around the house as the ADVENT troopers pass, using the tiny insect-size drones to check corners for him. After thinking about which weapon to use that could still be effective but won't give him away as unusual, he settles on readying his laser rifle. Lasers are invisible, so maybe he can duck back out of sight after firing and not even be spotted!
Rory White Rory decides that it's better to approach from below. With Ainsley having taken down one of the sensor pylons... she makes her way around the building and readies an ambush on the troopers!

With her back to the wall, she peeks around the corner... waits... and hurls something from her belt at them!

    GRENADE!!

But it's not an ORDINARY grenade. There's no explosion, no blast! Just a sizzling *ZAP!* amongst the group.

A sizzling ZAP that has the nifty benefit of shorting out electronics, especially sensitive radio gear.
Kotone Yamakawa So here we go with Kotonemoving to take postion to cover Ainsley, she trusts in her friend's ability to get past thepylon and it looks liek it works. Good that means they can move onwards. She's not sure what's going on with Ainsley though as she makes ready to go. She's now moving ahead slowly with the rest of the group as she's moving to use her body's system and her stealth systems to keep up with Maaka and hopefully not get noticed.
Samira Amirmuaz     And so the sneakiness continued for awhile... Magdelena eventually pushes from where she's hiding and goes to the door, gently eases it open, goes inside, and shuts it behind her. There's a quiet, panicked "Who's there!?" from deeper in the house... revealing itself to be a bespetacled man in a lab coat. Their informant, Jorge Velasquez the scientist. Seeing an armed person, even from XCOM, nearly makes him freeze up... but he recognizes that this is his chance.

"You have to get me out of here. ADVENT will kill me when they figure out I'm the one who lead you here. The device, it's... a block and a half down, in the two story house with the pool in the back. They're already transferring the data!" THe man pulls out a briefcase containing a laptop, which shows that said download is already 30% complete.

Meanwhile, Rory had moved through the area where the pylon had been working, managing to get away from the rest of the squad, back behind the opposing ADVENT force, and everyone else had picked up their own positions. She, however, did the thing that would start the fight here: the EMP grenade lands right in the middle of them and explodes, leaving both of the drones to fall to the ground like useless heaps, while the remaining three troopers all turn to face their revealed enemy.

<Intruders! XCOM is here!> shouts one of them, pointing at Rory. The three all try to scramble for cover.

DeGaspard smiles once the way to bloodshed is clear. He'd had one of the troopers in his sight already, and the moment they try to run he puts a slug through her helmet, leaving her to drop to the ground while her brain exploded orange across the street. That left the other two for free target practice!
Alexis Maaka     "THere we go." Maaka murmurs under her breath. She takes aim at one of the other ADVENT troopers just as DeGaspard takes the shot. Grinning in appreciation for a fellow marksman, Maaka takes the shot and fires upon the second trooper, her EM rifle kicking firmly against her shoulder.
Courier Six     And now we've started, and Johnny grumps behind that mask. ADVENT knows where they are now, and he's... already planning. He taps DeGaspard on the shoulder, and grunts. "Securing our position, be right back. Bag an officer if you can."

And then he's moving to other access points on the roof, carrying shaped charges. Claymores. Oh dear. He grunts, spotting the top of a fire escape, and carefully places it facing the metal grating in case anyone tries to sneak up that way... and sneaking a quick peek over the side. "...If I was a sneaky fuckin' snake, where would I be?"
Staren     Staren steps out from behind the corner of the house, fires a three-pulse burst at one of the troopers (indicating his intent on the tacnet), then ducks back behind the corner hopefully before the last one gets a look at him. <"Disabling the drones was good, but won't their allies notice them dropping off the tacnet? Also, they might still be psychicly linked!">
Rory White Rory White's a bit shocked at how QUICKLY the ADVENT Troopers pin her down and how calm they are at being suddenly attacked out in the middle of nowhere. Is it intense training? Neural programming? Something stranger? "I expected at least a LITTLE confusion!" And she has no idea if she actually disabled their communications!

What she DOES know is that they're concerned about getting under cover. She, however, is not. Rory dives OUT of cover in fact and breaks into an insanely quick dash across the street while she takes a few potshots with her pistol offhandedly. She leaps at the last moment and goes tumble-roll-skidding behind a dumpster. The manuever was quite insane by any sort of human standards, a display of her robotic advantages even if they're in human shape.

    "Predictable response at least..."

To her, the ADVENT troops ducking into cover was just a bit too slow and too predictable a thing to do. Which is why she risked dashing out of cover while they were concerned with getting INTO it! But it's fine. So long as their eyes are on HER, they won't see the others coming!
Ainsley     Ainsley grimaces from her headache as the gunfire goes down, especially the sound of the sniper rifle. It is not a pleasant feeling. But she understands it only as the inexperiences with psychic phenomena and not real damage to her, since she starts to recover quickly. Once she has confirmed over the radio what their options are after their presence here has been revealed, she makes her decision.

She just shoots straight up into the air and seems to vanish. XCOM soldiers might perceive this as the mind boggling thing that Thin Men do, leaping out of sight to land somewhere more convenient. Then she drops back down from her altitude and tries to land on top of a neighboring building, hiding behind it's chimney stack. She tries to get a good line-of-sight on the device she identified earlier by peering through a window she knew it was on the other side of, and then she opens her book and begins another long-distance attempt at her magic.

A flash of non-light blue and she casts a jamming spell toward the device, trying to block the network. She carefully adjusts the spell for the psionic component and makes sure not to get too exposed to it this time. She realizes she's like a lightning rod for psychic communications, thanks to the nature of her magic, at this moment, and frowns a little to herself.
Kotone Yamakawa Things are just getting nuts here but Kotone knows they have to get the person who called them in out of here right? She movces with Maaka and takes aim at one of the remaining troopers. She's aiming to lend Maaka and DeGaspard a hand. She also keeping an eye out for comm signalsnad damn the former EXALT operative isd one hell of a shot all things considered. She's also making use of the Gremlin like it's an extenion of herbody to sneak out and atmove to try and act as a diversion for the assaulting ADVENT forces yet in the back of her mind? Where the hell are the heavy troops. She'd expected Mutons would be dropped in on a ressurected XCOM which had the commander back in charge? That worries here a lot.
Samira Amirmuaz     The three Troopers attempting to go for cover don't really have the time, nor the option. After DeGaspard dropped one of them, Maaka's put the bullets to a second, and Staren's burst finishes off the last, leaving the black-armored figures sprawled out in the street leaking orange fluids all over the place. This pod is clear, with a perfect Overwatch trap.

With the information that they have, the tacnet gets an update: the house is down the house-lined street, a block and a half to the northwest. The street approach will take them straight to the front door, without much cover save from the houses. Whereas, the alley that they took could lead them to the northeast, allowing them to get around to the back of the property.

Ainsley takes a third option, flying to a vantage point that lets her look in at the device. Trying to work her magic again, eh?... But this time, when she tries, the device resists her efforts. It appears that both it's structure and the components it is made of actively resist any attempts to override or hack it. Sadly, they won't be doing this the easy way.

Martinez moves to take the northeast alleyway, to move behind the houses and just sneak over the backyards to get to the destination. DeGaspard, meanwhile, jumps down from his perch and starts moving towards the street access, keeping to full cover home walls. Once he gets close enough to have a decent vantagepoint, he crawls up another drain pipe to the roof of a one-story where he begins trying to set himself up.
Alexis Maaka     Once the second trooper is downed, Maaka slings her rifle before producing her grappling wire.

She rappels her way down to ground level, before she falls the rest of the way down. Retracting her grapple, she'll carry on the same way as the others, going behind the houses as she counts on camo to keep herself hidden.
Courier Six     Oh goddammit, DeGaspard is on the move. The old cowboy grumps, and there's a sudden burst of speed from him as the Pipboy twiddles at the onlooker that something's going on.
He hoofs it to the next building trying to keep up with the EXALT. "Damn kids." A moment to haul himself up the drainpipe after the sniper... and then he's skidding to a stop next to the Frenchman. At least his Riot Gear can't let out the sound of panting. "Ya'l... shoulda said you were moving. Damn."
Rory White Rory White decides to take the alley as well, heading for the back of the house! Her robotic legs are utterly tireless and she doesn't have to pause for anything, least of all a breath. But she does slow down upon nearing the house, sidling up against a window and peeking in. Meanwhile... her Saucer takes its time to catch up, but it is now free to hover a bit higher in the sky.

The house is treated to a full electromagnetic scan, including lidar, radar, and thermal - in an effort to 'map out' its structure and heat sources in it.
Kotone Yamakawa So here wer are as they with the tacnet she'll make use of that information and cloak once more. She'll try to make for the house but it seems that osme of the others such as Ainsley has an idea which should get them some more information. Kotone leave the cover to those more needing ofg it as she gets to move for the objective keeping cloaked and will be keeping an eye on the data Rory gets about just what they will be facing. Odd how a closed door is the most scary thing in the world sometimes...she muses.
Staren     Staren opts to follow Martinez, running through backyards to get to the target house.

Rory's got the data-gathering and tacnet-coordinating stuff down, and he waits to see what's inside before going in. He's not scared of getting attacked by some monster -- after over a decade of multiversal experience, he's reasonably sure he and the elites will survive this. The question will be whether the aliens destroy the device or something to prevent them from taking it.
Samira Amirmuaz     The team was pretty well split, which means this would've been a perfect time for them to get ambushed and picked off one by one! Except, this isn't a horror movie... not quite, anyway. There appears to be no resistance against the team anywhere while they march on.

The team with Martinez makes it to a last wall, made of bricks, covering them from the approach to the last house. A gate would take them out of this yard, and into the next one, currently boarded off by a wooden fence. Rory's scans manage to pull up at least a decent readout of the building: it's a pretty well-off house, two floors, the first with about five rooms while the second floor is made up of three and the staircase landing. THere's also the device, spinning away and putting out it's own confusing signatures. What's more concerning, however, are the number of heat signatures inside.

As in, there's a good chance there's nine hostiles inside that building alone, split between the top and bottom floors.

Out in front team, Kotone, DeGaspard, and Johnny similarly meet no resistance while they go. DeGaspard is a sneaky little French bastard, and Ko's got her own means of being stealthy. Johnny, on the other hand, is wearing some big luggin' armor and chasing after DeGaspard, who mutters something under his breath about an 'ungraceful John Wayne' while he goes. That... ends up being a problem.

From within, there's muffled shouting. Then, from the second floor, glass shatters from one of the windows facing the street. Looking over would show the green-armored ADVENT soldier aiming a rather large mag cannon, spraying dozens of rounds towards the three's position. He's joined by mag rifle fire from the first floor by one of the blue armored fellows, and then again from, surprise surprise, a red armored Captain on the second floor window opposite of the first.

Hearing fire, Martinez curses and kicks open the gate leading outside, and then promptly ducks back into cover when mag rifle fire strikes near her position, sending bits of wood and pieces of brick flying everywhere. Two more Troopers and one of the blue-armored Sentry's are covering the rear!

Seems like they had the tables turned on them this time!
Courier Six     Well... if there's one thing Johnny has never ever ever been called it's 'graceful'. Not really in his style. If he couldn't talk or shoot his way out of a situation, it was usually down to brute force. And now we're going to be putting that to the test again.
The cowboy snarls, moving to directly place himself in the line of fire between the ADVENT and Mr. Onion Soup, and draws both pistols. The 10mm barks, and the... uh, That Gun, makes it's eerie electronic snap-fire noise as each heavy round slaps out of the barrell. He's aiming first for the gunner, trying to break up the suppression it's laying down. "COME GET SOME, YA BASTARDS."
Ainsley     Ainsley keeps her eyes on the house as the others close in on it, frowning once the Gunner starts suppressing one of the XCOM soldiers. She considers her options and what she can do to take the heat off of the others by even a little bit...

She launches out of cover and draws her sword. The officer caught her attention, because she knows they are the most threatening of them. She makes a beeline for him, flying across the divide two stories in the air in nearly a straight line with the longsword held in both hands. And she tries to stab him THROUGH the cover in the wall, which means stabbing through a layer of paneling and a layer of drywall. She does this so it's not easy to crack a shot off on her as she tries to grab cover just above, on the roof of the house, but she's open to gunfire while she tries this.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa is keeping stealthy and honestly Johnny is actually helpin in he's a very well armed and armored distaction for her and DeGaspard to get to the objectuive. Ko's grmlin is moving along and it see one of the enemy trooper has a freaking coil mini gun more or less. This is bad, oh this is so bad. Ko's hidden sure, but she's got to deal with this. Then Johnny goes in to act as cover for Mr. Soup as he might put it and this actions opens it up for Kotone to aid in bringing the heavy wepaons trooper down. She's have her chance to move and she's going to try to get on him from the side opening up while still stealthed with her SMG.
Alexis Maaka     Maaka drops camo as the ADVENT commandos arrive, drawing her EM rifle again. "I got 'em, go!" She calls out, taking aim at one of the soldiers from the first floor. She fires in rapid semi-auto, accurate and consistent as she aims for the soldiers on ground level.
Staren     Staren watches the saucer's data appear on his tacnet as Martinez discovers there are troops in the back yard. He's considering how to take them down with missiles or something, when Maaka suggests he and Martinez go ahead. He deploys a couple of bug-sized rotor drones to add cameras to the tacnet, then slings his rifle over his shoulder, pulling a smoke grenade or two from his bag and tossing them over the wall. "Stay close. Ready? 3, 2, 1--" he pulls himself over the wall and runs to the side of the house... then grabs Martinez around the waist if she followed him, with one arm, while pulling a grappling hook and firing it through the window with the second. Up they go! Hopefully there are no aliens in that room... If there are, well, Martinez has her gun ready at least, right?
Rory White Rory goes dashing down the alleyway, confident that nothing's going to blindside her. So long as her Saucer is in the sky using its multiple sensors, she's certain that only high-grade cloaking could baffle her here...

And seriously, what's the chance that a Seeker's around here? Well she's not sure. But she is in no risk of being strangled to death.

    She doesn't need to breathe.

The alleyway brings her to the house, though she very quickly ascertains that there's a HELL of a lot of Advent forces inside...

And there's no windows to use for conveniently figuring out what sort, or for busting in. "A house with no windows... is it even a house?"

She goes over her remaining supplies, particularly her well-stocked belt of Transhuman-tech grenades. Holstering her pistol she plucks two from the belt... and hurls one with calculated angle and robotic strength so that it bounce-bounces right up against the nearest wall...

    KABOOOOOM!

It's a high-explosive grenade designed to break down walls and barriers and rattle anything that's pretty solid.

But Rory doesn't wait for the dust to settle and ADVENT to react before hurling her NEXT grenade through the breach!

This one... this one's a bit different.

It goes off with a far-quieter boom, filling the air with a thick cloud of... some kind of mist?

There's really only a second or so to ponder this one, because in the very next moment...

One fateful sparks ignites the mixture, and a raging firestorm from the depths of hell sweeps through the room! The AIR ITSELF is ignited, all of the oxygen converting nearly instantly into a horrific explosion. The air ripples with shockwaves and rebounds again, tearing up walls, flooring, and furniture from the pressure waves forced to bounce back and forth in a very confined space.

Oh, and topping it off, the air's chokingly devoid of oxygen for a bit, until fresh air can circulate in. ADVENT soldiers probably can't do without that very well.
Samira Amirmuaz     Unfrotunately for Johnny and Maaka, everyone inside is under good cover and pretty hard to hit. Though they allowed for temporary interruptions in the fire coming from particular points, all that the soldiers have to do is duck behind the walls for a few seconds, wait out the attempts to flush them out, and then peek back out to start firing. that being said, the Gunner isn't so lucky; That Gun tags him, blowing holes into his armor and making him scream in pain, dropping the area supression. The building is a giant clusterfuck. Ainsley manages to get something a bit more helpful, though. The captain only spots her at the last second, and tries to bring his eapon to bear... but then he's getting stabbed through the freaking wall. It's fairly superficial, allowing him to fire back into the wall in return, but whether or not he hits is probably a matter of luck, because the snake is up on the roof.

Which left Rory. Her first grenade clears the wall and gives her a nice shot of the ADVENT device. Her next grenade is suddenly EXPLODING IN FIRE that fills up the house. Just before the explosion, there's a crash on the opposite side, top floor, followed by a thump. Porbably something jumping out. The rest of ADVENT, though... there's some alien screams as they're suddenly being burned alive, before even the oxygen was gone from them. Upper floor and lower, the guns fall silent while they burned or choked to death, leaving the alien device to spin, covered in a layer of soot.

Martinez moves forward slowly, into the alleyway, then into the back yard next to the pool, her shotgun raised while she tries to make sure the area was clear. Suddenly, a familiar gasping screech echoes. A Sectoid rounds the corner from the opposite side of the house. Before it can really /do/ anything, though, Martinez charges it with a wild grin while she reaches up to her machete, jumps, slashes down... it crumples to the ground, nearly sliced in half, while the crazy Latina raises the sword to her mouth and eagerly licks off the blood. /Then/ she sweeps the blade aside to clear it before she sheathes it again.
Staren     Staren went up alone, it seems! 'Lack of oxygen' and 'fire', fortunately, are things his suit is equipped for. He sweeps the second floor for survivors, just to make sure there are no surprises from above for the people retrieving the artifact.
Alexis Maaka     Well, building's on fire. "Nice." Maaka says, whistling in surprise at Rory's handiwork. For a pacifist, the AI's pretty goddamn ruthless when she needs to be.

She climbs into the building on the first floor, her suit resisting the heat as she strides through flames and debris while swapping to her shotgun.

As she goes, she'll go to finish off survivors, methodically popping a 3" slug shell into each trooper with mechanical calm.

Then, she goes upstairs, trying to find the artifact as she mentally goes through her inventory. DId she bring detpacks for this? She had to, right? No excuse not to, even without a matter manipulator.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone seems to be trying to do what she can to she got the warning about the bomb that was coming and she's going to move to do what she can to help. They need to take out the item and get the hell out of here. they seriously need to get the hell out while she moves to check on her allies for a moment. The gunner is down she's not sure who got it and it doesn't matter really at this point she doesn't care about kills. She looks up to see the chaos of the fight and she is going to make for the objective and just shoot the hell out of it. She'll however put a priory on making sure Mr. Soup as the EX ADVENT operative has become known, is all right or even haul him out living or dead. It's not time to dally around for long.
