Steven Universe     The beach near Beach City is a bright, sunny, calm place, with white sand and gentle rolling waves. In the distance the Boardwalk stretches out into the water, and in the other distance a cliff face hides what looks like a stone hand reaching out from above, presumably part of some sort of statue? Oddly, there is a washing machine perched on the outstretched hand.

Sitting in the sand, strumming idly as a ukelele, Steven Universe watches the waves as if perhaps waiting for someone, or maybe just looking for musical inspiration. The cry of a seagull rings out from above.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura isn't precisely dressed for the beach. She's just wearing jeans, a pink t-shirt and white sneakers with little cheery blossom decals on them. If she'd known there was a beach she would've worn sandals!

    Oh well~

The Japanese teen makes her way across the beach towards the temple, humming idly to herself - and keeping an eye on her phone because she's following a GPS marker.
Steven Universe     Steven notices the new girl, someone he hasn't met yet, and waves hello.

"Hi!" he calls out, in case she doesn't notice him. It's not uncommon for him to meet new people out here, but rarely are they walking toward the Temple unless they're actually looking for him or the Gems.

"Are you looking for the Crystal Gems? I'm kinda the only one here right now.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura looks up from her phone, then gives a mischevious grin. "Oh! Hello. I was looking for a person named Steven. He invited me over to listen to a CD? But, if he isn't here, I guess I should go back home..." Yes she knows he's Steven, it's pretty obvious.
Steven Universe     "Oh wait, I'm a Steven! Are you the girl from the radio? I always have trouble telling who's who on that thing, my app gives me names with it but it's hard to remember them without faces to see. They should make a video chat app for that thing." Steven chuckles.

"I bet Dad'll be thrilled I'm making his music popular across the multiverse! It totally fits the theme of his songs. Wanna come to the house? I'll show you around!"
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura giggles a bit behind her hand. "That's me. Mage of Tomoeda Sakura Kinomoto, at your service~" She gives a flourishing, Western-style bow, acting almost like a magician or something. "..It becomes easier to attach names to faces, don't worry. And I'd love to be shown around!"

She muses a bit. "I shoulda worn a hat..."
Steven Universe     Steven gets up, brushing sand off his pants and kicking a little out of his flipflops, slipping the ukelele into his Cheeseburger Backpack.

"It's right over this way, just around the cliffside. Follow me!" his excitement is infectious, clearly the extroverted social type because he seems much more animated now than he did sitting by the water.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura keeps her hands behind her back as she follows along! "You play the... um. Tiny guitar. Uke-something..." She looks down. "You play an instrument~? That's pretty cool. My brother plays the piano but I've never really been good at music."

She's smiling quite a lot. His enthusiasm IS infectious.
Steven Universe     "I play lots of instruments, but the ukelele is the easiest to carry around. Dad taught me to play stuff since as far back as I can remember. It's really good for making hard stuff easier to deal with, you know? Anyway, here's the house." He waves a hand to a somewhat unkempt house, built at the bottom of a 50-foot statue set into the cliffside of a woman with four arms, it looks kind of religious almost, if not for the house and the washing machine cupped in one hand.

"Come on in, I'll grab the cd player!" Suiting word to action he leads the way inside the house. In spite of the fact that no one is home except what seems like an 8-year-old boy, the house is surprisingly neat inside. Much moreso than the outside would lead one to believe. Steven goes digging into a wooden toy chest and comes up with a small portable stereo and a cd jewel case with a space-themed cover art insert.

"It's the only CD Dad ever made, but it was apparently really popular, even though Dad never really went on tour. He was about to go when he met Mom and settled down here." A shadow crosses his expression almost imperceptibly.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura makes her way up the stairs in the manner of someone who COULD just climb up but is being polite. She stares up at the statue as they walk under and into it. "...Huuuh. I don't recognise that figure at all..." And she's looked into a lot of religions!

"Do you live here alone? There's only one bed..." She frowns a bit, eyeing the stone door. "And... three walls."

"That sounds pretty romantic - giving up your dreams for love?"
Steven Universe     "Hehehe, yeah, Dad really loved Mom." There's that shadow again... "And his manager, Marty was a jerk, so that made it easy for him. Anyway, I don't live here alone, but I think the Gems are out on a mission or something. I don't always know where they go all the time. But they don't sleep, so the bedroom's mostly just for me."
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura doesn't notice that dark look! She's still looking around the place. "Huuuh... They don't sleep? Weird. They're really missing out, there~"

Sakura hmms a bit. "..Oh, hey! I have a friend who might enjoy listening to your dad's CD, too. Do you mind if she tags along?" How exactly she's planning on getting her friend here is a mystery...
Steven Universe     Steven puts the stereo on the counter and sets the cd onto the spindle and closes it. "Sure! I always like meeting new people." He doesn't start it up yet, assuming she knows how to bring her friend. He still doesn't entirely get how travel among the multiverse works, but then he has a Lion to handle that for him anyway...

    "I'll make us some snacks!"
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura nods her head. "Kaay~ One sec." She takes the key necklace off from around her neck... and a magic circle appears below her feet! Glowing yellow lines paint a circle just above the floor, dominated by a five-pointed star, but flanked by a sun and crescent moon. Writing within the circle using Chinese, Japanese and Roman characters, along with symbols of the Western Zodiac, spell out... well, nothing Steven has any hope of reading, really.

"O Key that hides the power of the Stars..." Sakura begins to incant a spell! It ends with a "RELEASE!", as that key grows, changing colour slightly and losing its teeth until it's a magic wand, like out of a cartoon!

Sakura grips it with one hand, and pulls what appears to be a violently pink tarot card out from her pocket. "Song!" she calls, tapping the wand to the card. The card vanishes in a flash of blue and purple, which soon coalesces into a humanoid figure hovering a few centimeters off the ground. The dress-clad, purple woman clasps her hands together, before opening her eyes... and tilting her head slightly in confusion.
Steven Universe     Steven stares openmouthed with actual stars in his eyes for long seconds... "Oh wow, that was so awesome... I just got the coolest idea for an album cover..." He seems entirely unaware he just quoted his dad, not that Sakura would know either.

"Umm, hi!" He waves hello to the purple lady, seeming momentarily at a loss for words.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura is grinning. Ah, she does love showing off to people who don't know what she does so much. The little attention hog.

The Song glances at Sakura, who gives a little 'go on' gesture. The purple lady then looks towards Steven, smiles shyly, and gives a little finger-wave with one hand. Sakura giggles. "Steven, this is The Song. Song, this is Steven! His dad's a rock star. I was thinking you might enjoy listening to his CD." Nod.
Steven Universe     Steven nods, still a little starry-eyed, and presses the Play button. The upbeat rock chords fill the air as Greg Universe's voice, perfectly preserved from some 15 years ago fills the air with a song about comets and stars and space and wonder.
Sakura Kinomoto     The floating purple lady floats down to the floor, and then, looking a bit awkward, sits down on the floor! The dress makes it impossible to go cross-legged, so seiza it is. Sakura sits beside her!

The Song closes her eyes as she listens, while Sakura just continues to grin ear to ear. She says nothing! It'd be rude to interrupt, you see.
Steven Universe Steven listens too, but he can't seem to keep still and in short order he's dancing! Not any style in particular, just sort of moving with the music, though one could almost... almost... imagine a shield on his arm, like he's been training with one enough that the reflexes have started to show up in his unconscious movements. Before long, a new song starts, then another and another, all of them variations on a theme of space exploration and adventure, hints of longing for something vast and boundless to fill a wandering soul. As music goes, it's all pretty standard hair band rock, but the feeling behind the singing is surprisingly intense.
Sakura Kinomoto     The Song doesn't move a muscle, just facing towards the CD player and keeping her eyes closed. Sakura, however, keeps her eyes on Steven, still grinning practically ear to ear. She brings her hands up and 'claps'... but there's absolutely no sound, even though you could swear her hands are slapping together!
Steven Universe     It seems like too short a time for 7 songs to have passed, but pass they do, leaving a sort of heavy silence in the aftermath. Steven looks a little like he's had a workout and a little like he's Feeling Things. Like the best kinds of music do to people.

"Whew! I wonder why he didn't make more albums after he met Mom..."
Sakura Kinomoto     The Song's eyes snap open when the music is over! She looks... more confused than anything, really.

Sakura shrugs her shoulders. "Love makes people do weird things. You know? When my mom and dad got together, she totally changed her life goals. She was going to be a famous model, but then she decided she wants to be a mother instead."
Steven Universe     "Yeah, and things get even weirder with Gems I guess. Until recently I never really even got to know my mom, she... disappeared when I was born. I don't really understand how that works, but now I have her gem. And as weird as Gem wackiness gets, the multiverse thing made it even weirder. Because she's back, sort of, but a version of her that didn't fall for Dad yet. I think maybe he's hiding from her because I haven't seen him around in a while. Adults are confusing sometimes."
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura tilts her head to one side. "Disappeared?" She looks a little confused, then gives a sad smile. "Well, at least you can get to know a different version of her, right? I haven't found a world where my mom is still alive, yet."
Steven Universe     Steven nods, before letting out a sigh and grinning again. "Yeah, and she's pretty amazing. And she still likes heavy metal music! I've made up some songs myself, but I didn't record any of them or anything. I even sang in a couple of talent shows! One here in Beach City, and another at Toph's school. Do you know Toph? She's really cool, and she seems to know almost everybody."
Sakura Kinomoto     "Do I know the Greatest Earthbender in the Multiverse? ... Not really that well, actually. I'd -like- to know her better, but I'm always super busy lately..." She shrugs her shoulders. "She's really cool, though. And I think it's neat you sang in a talent contest at her school! Getting known in other worlds is pretty neat~"
Steven Universe Steven suddenly seems to remember he offered snacks earlier, probably reminded by his stomach making a growly sort of noise.

"Oh, I forgot the snacks! Song, would you like some too?" he offers, grabbing things out of the cabinets. Bread, lunch meats, tomato slices, eggs, peanut butter, spray whipped cream, popcorn and a bag of Chaaaaps!. He immediately sets to carefully designing a very complicated and strange overly large sandwich, the kind of thing he probably learned from Amethyst.
Sakura Kinomoto     The Song focuses her attention on Steven - when she's not addressed, she seems to just gaze at Sakura fondly - and gives him a shy little smile and a shake of her head. Sakura clarifies: "She can't really... eat. At least, I've never seen her eat, and she never accepts food..." Sakura reaches over and ruffles the Song's hair, which looks kinda weird given Sakura looks ten years her junior! The Song seems to appreciate it, though. "She gets all the 'food' she needs from me!"

Sakura kinda stares at Steven's construction. "...Oh jeez, that looks like something Kero would make..."
Steven Universe     In a few minutes, Steven sets a tray on the coffee table in front of the couch, with 12 triangular sandwiches containing all the above mentioned ingredients in handy finger-sandwich bite-size hors d'oeuvres of weirdness. He takes one for himself and munches happily.

"I made the best breakfast once, for me and the Crystal Gems, but it came to life and tried to eat us instead. I've learned my lesson, breakfast is too dangerous. Together Lunch has been working out well so far though."
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura is JUST reaching for a finger-sandwich when Steven mentions the Together Breakfast Incident. She kinda just stops in her tracks and stares at him. "Wh-what? ... Are you part tanuki or something?"
Steven Universe "What's a tan-ooky?" Steven grabs another sandwich bite, which noticeably does not try to eat him.

"Actually I think it was because of this evil scroll thing Garnet was disposing of, and I accidentally set it free and it possessed my breakfast creation. But still, I figure it's better not to take chances with breakfast anymore."
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura still looks baffled for a moment, before nodding. "Oooh, I see. So it was brought to live with an... evil magic artifact?" She hmms a bit, before shrugging and picking up a sandwich! Crunch. "I guess that sort of stuff happens here, too. Well, if you ever need the help of a Mage who's experienced with that sorta stuff, feel free to call~"
Steven Universe     "Cool, I'll do that. Here's my number too." He shares his cell phone number, not even questioning why it seems to work all over the multiverse, "We're kinda magical protectors of the world too, Gem magic, or technology, or whatever, I'm still not sure... It's pretty effective so far. I'm still figuring out my powers. But I can heal people with my spit, and my magic weapon is actually a shield, which is really cool because I don't really like hurting people."
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura continues to munch on weird sandwiches! They're pretty tasty, after all, even if they take a bit to get used to. "That's pretty cool. So what, you're a Magical Boy?" She giggles a bit. "Wait, you can -heal- people? ... Sooo jealous." Pout~
Steven Universe     "Yeah, though spit seems kinda weird for healing. I think most people would get mad if I licked them or spit on them. It's kinda gross actually. Mom could... can do it with her tears. But yeah, Magical Boy Steven, that's me! And I can fuse with people, too, though that can get even weirder than the spit thing. But when I fuse with my best friend Connie, we work really well together! And it's... really interesting being a girl sometimes. Weird, and kinda scary but interesting."

Steven works on his fourth sandwich. Apparently he was hungry!
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura giggles a bit. "Steven, honey... lick your lips and then literally kiss it better." She can't help but ruffle his hair. "Spitting on people WOULD be weird, yeah."

And then he talks about fusion. Her head tilts to one side. "Huuuh. That DOES sound pretty interesting... Uh, wait. Connie is a girl, right? SO when you fuse with her... you're a girl? But..." She looks perplexed! "You'd think adding Boy and Girl would get Neuter, not... Girl."
Steven Universe     "Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with that. But then, I am the only human/gem hybrid anywhere as far as I can tell, and all of the other gems are girls, so I dunno? But yeah, it's fun being Stevonnie! We're really stable like that, and work together almost perfectly I think. And we look a little older that way too, so we can go have fun at Sour Cream's raves and stuff. Oooh, and that's a great idea for the healing thing! I'm so gonna do that next time."
Sakura Kinomoto     "...Honestly, I've never thought 'healing tears' were a good idea. It's not as if you can cry on demand! But, saliva... that's easy. It might be gross, but, being able to heal all the time is more useful, right?"

She shakes her head a bit, grinning. "You use magic to look older and go to raves? Man, I'm sure there's an anime about that sorta thing..."
Steven Universe     "I tried actually *being* older once too, on my own, but it... didn't work out very well. I'm not very good at shapeshifting I guess. Or maybe too good at it? Either way it wasn't much fun, it was mostly just scary and kinda sad. I'm okay right where I'm at for now I guess. But when we're Stevonnie, we're just... more?" He clearly is having trouble putting the exposition into words.
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura nods her head. "I know what you mean. I'm... mostly just teasing you. Sorry! I don't have a little brother and I don't know many younger kids so I don't get to act in the 'big sister' role that often~" She has an odd idea about how 'big sisters' act.
Steven Universe     "Hehehehe, I think you do just fine as a friend. I'm not sure how brothers and sisters act really either, but friends is easy and fun!"
Sakura Kinomoto     Sakura sticks out her tongue. "I have an older brother. It's awful, I don't advise it~" Not that Steven could realistically end up with one. "Friends are better, though, yes."
