Samira Amirmuaz     ABOARD THE AVENGER, 1300 HOURS, RESEARCH BAY...

Dr. Richard Tygan's research bay was quite an impressive place, even in comparison to the rest of the Avenger's facilities. After all, this room housed the Avenger's energy drive that ran along the whole section of the ship's bow, and it gave off a powerful white light that lit the room in sharp relief; bright in some areas, utterly shadowed in others. The lab itself was suspended above the floor by expansive catwalks, far walls cluttered with computers and random tech.

Closer was a table surrounded by desks and more computers and screens. On said table was a corpse of one of ADVENT's hybrid soldiers - and it looks like their faces weren't the only places that'd seen some rather disturbing transformation. Tygan was behind it, tapping on the screens behind him, finishing up his notes for the Commander regarding the subject's actual physical condition and abilities.

The catwalk isn't very quiet to move on, and the drive core's low hum doesn't cover noise very well either. So the moment that Tygan hears any sound of movement, he's turning around and adjusting his glasses. "Welcome to the Research Bay, ma'am."
Ainsley     "Thank you, Doctor," Ainsley replies with a cordial smile and a nod of her head. She is a pretty quiet creature, but that's only when she wants to be. She tends to abuse her ability to fly indefinitely to make herself much lighter than she actually is. She spares a momentary glance to the powerful reactor, doubtlessly a marvel of technology that she could never understand, but then turns to approach the table where the ADVENT soldier was.

"So, Doctor, what's on the agenda for today? Did you have anything you wanted to discuss, or am I going to assist you in some research?" she asks, clarifying why she is here because there's actually several possible reasons. She assumes it has something to do with the corpse.
Samira Amirmuaz     Straight to the point. For a moment, Tygan smiles in relief while nodding and reaching for a tablet. "Yes, the agenda... You were able to access something that I theorized existed, but couldn't prove. I would like to see if there's a way that you could access it again, using a source we control." He motions to the corpse on the slab before them.

"As I said before, I was responsible for creating implants that were to be given to high-level ADVENT soldiers during my tenure in an ADVENT lab. It turns out they were similar to the one that was removed from the Commander. I can't help but assume there is a connection between the two. The question is - do you have some means of reinacting what you did on the field? Furthermore, is there a way that we can save the information you might be able to tap?"

He turns the soldier's head - the back of his head has been split open, revealing the chip stuck in the soldier's skull. "If need be, we can jack in directly to it, but I'd rather be sure, first."
Ainsley     Ainsley lets her smile fade as they get down to business. She retrieves some proper latex gloves before she even starts, not wanting to contaminate anything. She digs into her coat and opens her book, flipping through the pages rapidly with but a glance and a murmur of an unknown word. It's certainly an arcane thing to see, nothing near the high tech that can be found in this very room. She finds the spell and recites it aloud, but reaches out and gently rests her hand on the corpse. Her book glows blue and a blue 'fire' ignites from the pages.

And then, visually, nothing seems to be happening but Ainsley's eyes glazing over for a minute. She doesn't seem to be comatose, and she'll respond in basic ways to attempts to communicate with her, but she seems to be concentrating.

Once she's done she pulls her hand away and gives a thoughtful sniff.

"You're going to love this," she says, smirking a moment, "I think I know the consequences of what you did to get your Commander free from their clutches. When you removed the chip, it removed a key component of their tactical systems. Effectively, you neutralized their central tactical computer... and now it has left a bunch of corrupt data. I can tell some of it leads to a destination it just cannot reach anymore."

She closes her book and stares at the corpse a while longer.
Samira Amirmuaz     Tygan is no stranger to concentrating for his work, so while Ainsley is busy doing her own thing, he's busying himself with attaching a cord to the computer wall, then bringing the other end over to attach to the chip when he gets the chance. With that being said, the doctor can't help but watch the process with some interest... He was from a planet where magic didn't exist. It was a superstition. Seeing it here, in front of him and working... a repeated experiement. It was a scientist's dream.

After she pulls herself out of her visions, the good doctor moves to attach the cord swiftly to begin downloading the information onto the computer. Already having been accessed by AInsley, it's working remarkably quick. Still... a frown comes to his face while he scratches the scars on his head. "May I ask why you believe this is the case?" He asks professionally, looking over the data that's streaming on his computer. "Could this corrupted data simply be due to the fact that the subject is deceased?... Would we be able to hack a live Captain's chip to see if this degredation is widespread?"
Ainsley     "Maybe it is from death. They are integrated into the brain and who knows how much of the corruption is related to the absence of the Commander in their system, and how much is the device frying from the trauma of death or even in-built safety measures," Ainsley says, very calm in accept such a thing, "The way their system works, however, officers appear to have been fed tactical data straight from the Commander herself. I can transfer the code onto a readable medium for you, if it helps."

As for hacking a LIVE officer, she looks astounded by the idea, because it's a familiar one that occurred to her for different reasons. "Yes," she replies, "We could. They're vulnerable to intrusion... but I'm afraid it would take being dangerously close to them. Such a hack is not possible from a distance, even with my abilities. In theory, all I would need to do is touch one of them... I could even help you develop a tool to do it yourselves."

She seems to get lost in the mental image of trying to get that close, of what that might do. "A dangerous road..." she muses aloud.
Samira Amirmuaz     The good doctor nods quickly, tapping upon his tablet while Ainsley speaks, making notes of her statements. "If they do suffer from some form of trauma following the death of a subject, the only way we would obtain a fully accurate reading is to hack a live subject... Yes, if you could please transfer what you have, it would be appreciated. Obviously, Commander Amirmuaz should know about this." He pauses and sighs, rubbing his face. "I somehow suspect she's not going to enjoy hearing this new information."

It's unfortunate that Ainsley wouldn't be able to hack the chips from a distance the same way that she'd hacked the security pylon... but, it's in line with what Tygan expected. "How lucky that we have at least two soldiers whose roll relies on getting dangerously close to enemies," he notes wryly. Neither Kelly nor Magdelena - particularly Magdelena - were fans of his. "While I appreciate the offer, I believe it would be important for our soldiers to have the ability to do the hacking on their own. There's no guarentee that you'll be in combat with us when the time comes. Meaning no disresepct, it is important for XCOM to be able to stand on it's own eventually. There's always the chance that there'll be no Elites with us."

Hearing her half-conscious words, Tygan sighs and presses his glasses up his nose. "It's unfortunate, but the truth of the matter is that XCOM and it's soldiers will always be in danger. I somehow doubt that XCOM will ever be entirely free, even if we do manage to defeat ADVENT and free the planet."
Ainsley     "I have no intention of removing the power of your organization. I want to help you to make something to perform the task yourselves, certainly," Ainsley says, smiling toward Tygan, but there's a flicker of emotion in there, something different.

"These aliens did not reach this point overnight, Doctor. That is what I mean," she tells him, "It's a dangerous road. Interfering in the mind like this..." She looks back to the alien, probably referring to the way ADVENT is doing it, and how it can potentially get out of hand. "Sorry. Moralizing. But it worries me, you know?" She flashes Tygan the most apologetic look she can manage. "I want you all to come out of this stronger than when you went in... not only in military might, but as people. It's kind of an... outsider perspective."

Then she turns to find a computer that seemed like it could be good for dumping the raw code into it. She places her hand on the computer, and it's a simple matter to open an empty document file, speak a few words, and the code seems to fill up the screen without her even touching the keyboard.
Samira Amirmuaz     Ahh... Now he gets it. Tygan frowns himself, scratching his scars again. "I see. I do understand your concern, of course, but at this point do we really have any choice? I think that if we are able to avoid the obvious ethical pitfalls, we can still retain our humanity while also finding the strength necessary to defeat ADVENT for good. That is why, unlike my predecessor, I am focused on providing sound research while also keeping a moral and ethical standard."

Ainsley's abilities certainly were incredible. Where once there was a blank page, now there was code. After the snake is finished, Tygan transfers it to a larger screen set against the wall and taps against it several times before hitting a 'run program'. Quite suddenly, the Captain's comatose form begins to twitch and shutter, making strange, almost electronic sounds in his throat. It actually makes Tygan jump slightly before chuckling uneasily.

"In spite of his condition, the implant still has a physical effect. Remarkable... We should begin drafting designs for our hacking device immediately. It's likely we'll also need Shen's facilities as well."
