Scene #4752: Water and Waffles

Garnet	The rays of the early morning sun peek through the screen door and windows of Steven's beach house. The sound of nearby surf breaking against the beach, birds chirping, and crys of distant gulls give the rested and lazy feeling of a new day coming into its own in Beach City. There is a ding and two of the lights on the temple door light up as it opens. A blast of warm dry air blasts the entirity of the small house for a moment before fading back to the moist cool beach air that held sway until moments ago. Out of the doorway a tall purplish woman stepped through the living room of the house on her way to the screen door as she passes the couch she halts her motions, for a second she's a living purple statue and then slowly she turns to face the figure on the couch...she crouches down and for a long tense and silent moment she just stares impassively across the coffee table at what appears to be a male Gem asleep on the couch. Her footsteps had been light and quiet up to not wake Steven if he happened to still be in bed so maybe she'd not woken the other Gem, then a wide smile broke across Garnet's normally stoic features much like the dawn's sun against the ealier horizon. She recognizes a friend even if they were a tad different than she remembered, someone she definitely think she'd see ever again let alone when she stepped out of her room. "The multiverse is truly amazing." She muses with a gentle amused lilt to her voice.
Golden Topaz	The male gem asleep on the couch, Golden Topaz, slowly opens his eyes, the amber irises looking groggily across the coffee table to gaze at the woman croushing there. IN a flash he's sitting up and his left hand is reaching for his right elbow, where his gemstone is, the handle of a weapon beinig pulled.. until he realizes that the other gem is actually smiling upon seeing him. He blinks as he tilts his head lightly,bringing his hand down to rest beside him as he sits on the couch. "Garnet... I was told you were here, but I didn't expect to run into you again so quickly." He slowly stands, being only a few inches short of Garnet's impressive stature, right between Pearl and herself in height.
Garnet	The voice is a bit deeper and the body is a bit different but the coloration is right, the gem is the right cut and in the right spot, it has to be Golden Topaz right? Just one not from the events of her universe maybe another one like the Rose Quartz she'd not met yet? She does note the reaching for his weapons but brushes it off as surprise. "Golden Topaz!" She stands up to her full height and enthuses with surprise and delight evident in her voice as she reaches over to give him a relatively gentle punch in his non Gemmed arm unless he stops her, "It's good to see you." Her smile doesn't dim at all as she uses her other hand to adjust her visor as she pulls it down her third eye is visible as she gives him the once over, "Though, probably not the one I know." Her smile dims just a bit but it's still obvious she's happy to see him.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz blinks as he takes the hit in his arm, not quite sure what to make of that. He could have dodged, but there wasn't any real malcontent behind it, so why bother? He looks over the Garnet before him, lifting up his goggles to show his own eyes more clearly. "And you're obviously not my Garnet.. which I suppose I can be thankful for." He smiles a bit as he keeps the goggles up. He moves around the coffee table to be closer to her. "I suspect we had a very different relationship in your universe... I may not be your Golden Topaz, but I think I'd like to try to be something similar, as it seems.. much nicer than back in my world." He smiles a teeny bit and offers a hand to her.. before looking to it, then her. "Would we shake hands, or hug? I can do either."
Garnet	Garnet is puzzled for a moment by that comment though her smile remains as she considers those words, the curiousity about her other self pushed down for the moment as Topaz continues speaking. She does, however, put her visor back into proper place. "I guess we did." There is a hint of an unasked question before he offers his hand. She stares for a long moment... She then reaches out to hug the other Gem if he lets her, the pick him up and spin him in a quick circle kinda hug at that. Hug or no she straightens up, "It's been a long time since I last saw our Golden Topaz." She pauses before continuing, "She didn't get the chance to take advantage of our freedom from Homeworld." Garnet admits a bit sadly.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz is surpsied to get hugged in such a way, but returns the hug tightly, smiling as he presses his face to her body, it having been a while since he last embraced another Gem. The face may have brough back other emotions, but the tenderness, the kindness, replaces them, the smile getting warmer as he lifts her up and spins her as well, pretty strong himself, after he's set down. When the hug ends he looks up to her face. "It's been a long time since I last saw my Garnet. I.. did get to take advantage of the freedom.. away from the war effort. I.. I left, after I lost my best friend, Bismuth. Did you have Bismuth wiht your world? Very large, absolutely gorgeous woman, inward gem, liked to make things?" He moves to grab his pack and pulls out a photorealistic sketch, showing himself, another shorter, more rotund gem, and Bismuth, the two smaller gems riding on each of her shoulders as he flexes, all of them laughing. "This was her.. with me and my partner and.. girlfriend, as the humans say it, Onyx."
Garnet	Garnet is pleased her hug is returned and offers another quicker warm smile in reply as she is set down. For her part there is no bittersweetness in getting to see at least some version of Golden Topaz in person again, she lost way too many friends in the war to ever be unkind to one even if they weren't quite from her universe. "Did she not make it?" Garnet asks about her alternate self though Topaz's response mostly answers that. Garnet smiles sadly at the presented sketch it'd been a very long time since she'd seen Bismuth even in her own memories. Garnet shakes her head once, "Rose said we lost her." Tapping gently next to Bismuth's image in the sketch shaking her head sadly. "Only Rose, Pearl, and myself made it out okay here." She doesn't mention Amethyst as depending on events maybe Topaz had never met her. She looks at Onyx for a long moment recognizing her as a Crystal Gem but one she'd never interacted with very much save to note her Topaz had, had a crush. She's tempted to ask for a second about Onyx but the tone tells her that might be a sore subject for the male Gem at least at this moment, "It seems we had a few differences."
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli suddenly came walking in the front door, looking mad as well, heck. She was covered from head to toe in wet, red flour. "I swear the moment I find where Ronaldo lives I'm taking it out with a tidal wave and HIM WITH IT!" she shrieked angrily before walking into the bathroom. There'd be a quick flurry of sounds and then she'd soon come back in, sighing and... far, far cleaner. If wetter. And trailing water. Pearl probably hated having her there. She didn't try to make messes. She just didn't understand why someone wouldn't WANT trails of water everywhere. Then she noted the two gems and blinked. "G-garnet? Topaz?" She took a small step back. She hadn't seen Garnet in ages, not before she left. So there was no telling how she'd react. So she went to her normal methods. A shield. She considered the bathroom, but then quickly moved behind Topaz as an obvious gem shield. "I'm good now I'm working with Rose and she says I can stay here and your friend Topaz likes me so please don't pop me I'm not causing problems I swear."
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz nods slowly. "Indeed.. since it seems I didn't make it in your world. And in mine.. I left assoon as Bismuth disappeared. Wandered the world, integrated into human societies... I learned so much from the people I met. Things about myself, things about society, philosophy, cooking, fighting... I wanted to go back to the other Crystal Gems, but without the two I loved most there.. I felt liek I would have been a hinderance. So I did what I could elsewhere. I took part in human wars, working to protect people, ensure as many soldiers and civilians were safe as possible. Several thousand years of war and exploration with humans, and I still learn more every day from them.. they really do make this planet worth every bit of protection we can give." Suddenly, he's a shield! Be turns his head to look at Lapis and smiles to her. "Lapis, it's okay. This Garnet is really nice. Really, really nice. She wouldn't pop you." He then looks to the slightly taller woman. "Would you?"
Garnet	Garnet is listening intently to Topaz tell his story as the screen door screeches open in a way only screen doors can. She's surprised to see Lapis covered in gunk rush by in a huff and while she starts to get ready for a fight more out of habit than anything else. She takes a deep calming breath and lets that go for the moment before regarding the Gem across from her, "Did you have corrupted Gems to deal with as well, in your world?" This is the point at which wet smooshy sounds draw her attention to Steven's Bathroom and the damp Lapis hopefully that was shower water instead of toilet water or Pearl was going to have an utter melt down. Garnet chuckles to herself at that thought. Then Lapis sees her and freaks out. The tall Gem does her best statue impression not moving an inch as the smaller blue Gem spouts everything as though she'd been interrogated. For her part she just follows Lapis' movements behind Topaz quietly. Then Topaz ends her little amusement by asking her if she'd pop the formerly homeworld aligned Gem, "Probably..." She lets that hang for just a moment before she continues, "Not." She finally moves and straightens up having been leaning on the Kitchen counter. "Unless she gives me a reason to, I won't touch her." If Steven was cool with her here as well as another version of Rose she'd let it stand until Lapis' proved unworthy of their trust. She then gives Lapis the wave equivalent of 'Yo.'
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli lets out a sigh of relief, then waves. "ummm... Yo." She looked between the two of them, then perked up. "Oh! Want me to make waffles again?" she asked, sounding a bit excited. "I think I'm getting better at it! Garnet, you like to eat, right? Or was that amethyst..." She frowned and rubbed her chin. Her eyes were then drawn to garnet's hands, then back to Topaz. No, now was not the time to ask. She slowly moved back towards the kitchen and was already starting to make the waffles. Garnet would probably quickly realize Lapis sucked at it. She was messy, added far, far too much water to the mix and turned the stove on without anything in them. But she hummed happily as she worked. seemed she really enjoyed cooking. Bad as she was.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz quickly moves to the kitchen after her. "Hey, Lapis, you said we'd make them together this time!" He then works to make a batch all his own, using more traditional methods of not adding too much water, and correctly turning the stove off when lapis wasn't looking, adding in some cinnamon, and pulling an apple from the fridge, flicking his elbow up to send a peeling knife through the air, landing safely in his hand before he quickly peels the apple, and then his knife shifts to a larger kitchen knife before Garnet's eyes and chopes the apple up, cutting out the core (even if it is actually just a myth and the whole apple can be eaten). He seems to be a good cook, though that likely came along with so many years with humans. He pours the batter onto.. a ridged grill pan? He adds ma bit more cinnamon and some apple slices and allows them to cook, before flipping, showing ridged grooves instead of the normal pockets like those made with a waffle iron. "To answer your question, no, I didn't. I... have gotten a couple tidbits about them... never got to see them, myself. Suppose I should be happy about that." He flips the waffle again, a small glass of the batter and some apple juice mixed together. For Lapis!
Garnet	Without doubt or preamble Garnet's reply is swift, "Amethyst." While she could in fact find enjoyable features in eating and drinking, she was far more reluctant to try new things and new cooks than Amethyst was. She'd try another time after she'd watched another Gem's reaction to her cooking. As Lapis goes through her paces of 'cooking' Garnet is even more sure she made the right call as she watches the smaller Gem make water waffles. It does in fact seem like Topaz knows what he's doing in the kitchen, she'd watched Steven enough to know when someone knew there way around, when they were making a mess, and when they were 'playing' with their food as Pearl might say. 'You know that kinda looks like it might taste really good.' a voice says inside the Tall square haired Gem while another voice counters, 'We stay the course, if we try it now we'll hurt Lapis' feelings' the other voice sighs, 'Awww...you're right...next time though!' The internal debate ends abruptly as Garnet's thoughts become one again. She's moved around the counter so her back now faces the kitchen and she watches the two very different cooks go about making their dish. Shaking herself from her own thoughts as Golden Topaz answers her question, "You should be, they are not fun." The way she says the last two words it's clear she is mimicking the way Steven speaks for which she has a small smile on her lips at the thought.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli hummed softly and worked with him. If nothing else, she was good at following directions. Any task he set her to, she did with ease. She liked that part of cooking. It was comforting. She didn't have to think or focus or figure things out for herself. She just had to obey. AND no one got hurt. Frankly, it was the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, even with his help, by the end there would be battery mix leaked onto the stove and frankly Pearl was going to freak out. Lapis didn't even seem to realize that having a mess was bad. At least, with food. She then moved to sit besides Garnet, clasping her glass of batter in both hands and taking a sip. She then blinked. "I think... it tastes better this way. It tingles on my tongue." ah, sugar. The best kind. She then looked up to Garnet and held the cup out. "Would you like to try some of this, then? It's not solid." In the end, there'd be Topaz's good waffles and... lapis messy waffles. But she did try to use the device like he showed, though she overfilled it a bunch and made a huge mess. But in the end she was also smiling and seemed pretty happy. Sitting besides the much larger gems, her legs neatly crossed. Then her eyes lit up. "Oh! Oh Garnet! I've, ummm, b-been trying new things! Would you like to see one of the new me's I tried? It's... ummm... different! A human helped me do it!"
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz smiles and does his best to help out Lapis, but only so much could be done. As she moves to arry off her glass and her creations, he plates his own.. then grabs a hand towel and immediately sets to cleaning the kitchen area, working quickly, efficiently, quite practiced in cleanliness of work spaces. After a few minutes of work cleaning up the messes, washing dishes and getting up spills, the kitch area looks like it hasn't even been used. He picks up his own plate and smiles to Garnet. "You should see this. She looks really pretty in the outfit she's been working on." He sits on down and pours his syrup, each ridge on his waffle acting like a stream of syrup, coating the cinnamon-apple waffles in the sweet concoction before he takes a bite, savoring it. "Been forever since I cooked.. I should do a lot more of it, show you all what I learned while I traveled! Oh, speaking of!" He moves to his pack by the couch and brings it over to the counter, digging through it and pulling out a rolled up cloth and a large album. He rolls out the cloth to show what looks to be crowns in the forms of leaves made of precious medals, as well as a few scrolls of different materials and sizes, and medals that look like they come from various countries, and various times. The album stays closed, for the moment. "I figured you someone might want to also check out all the different things I received from humans in my wandering.. it's largley decorations of merit in war, but some of these things are more.. momentos." He picks up a matrushka doll, smiling a bit at it.
Garnet	Garnet just watches the duo work in the kitchen though Lapis does make a mess, unlike Pearl it doesn't bother her. She might even clean it up so Pearl doesn't freak out later or she might not depended on how she felt about it later. As Lapis sits next to her, Garnet regards her from behind her visor and offers a small shake of her head, "You made it, you enjoy it." She gives the smaller Gem a quick smile though it was a bit harder to stick to her guns seeing Lapis and then Topaz enjoy their cooking. She'd try some later...if there were leftovers, the deal between her halves quietly made while she watched Topaz finish up his cooking. "Sure." She indulges Lapis with yet another quick smile as Topaz tells her to do so. Sometimes having more than the standard amount of eyes could be helpful, two of her eyes focused on Lapis while her top eye focused on Topaz, not that either could tell beneath her visor. The thought of Pearl being faced with food made her chuckle for a brief moment as Topaz mentioned showing them what he'd learned. "I'm sure we'd all enjoy that." Then he shows off the momentos and medals. Garnet nods, "Looks like you've traveled quite a bit." She tilts her head at the scrolls and what she can see of the different momentos like the doll. She then nods at Lapis clearly not having forgot her, "Go ahead, I'm watching." She encourages.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli gave a big smile. It... was so a Steven smile. He was such a good influence on her. She then got up and then blinked. should she? She then tried spinning and then... while she spun... with a flash of her gem, her dress disappeared, replaced by a purple kimono with little black snowflakes and a snowy sky-gray sash. "And Rose likes this!" Then her hair began to extend until it was as long as Roses! It... sent the gem toppling over with a shriek. She was no where near grounded enough to wear that hairstyle. Her arms flailed around for a moment as she tried not to fall over, unfortunately as her balance went all over the place, her hair went with it, applying more weight. She tried to reach out with her powers for some water, but there was none nearby for her to grab. Except the waffles but they weren't really... watery enough for her.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz chuckles and nods to Garnet. "Yeah. PLenty of timeto do so, given how long I've been away. But, we really should focus on one thign at a time. Like Lapis's adorable kimono!" He smiles when he then looks over to the blue girl, smirking and moving to help pick her up when she trips, offering a hand to her. "Trying a few too many steps of exploration on your look at once, eh?"
Garnet	Garnet chuckles at how excited Lapis is getting about showing off her changes. "You're right." She agrees with Topaz about splitting her attention and focuses entirely on the blue Gem as she spins and transforms Garnet's not sure if Lapis had picked that up from Steven or Rose. She strokes her chin appreciatively at the Kimono for a moment before she politely claps, "Very nice!" She enthuses just as the Lapis' hair goes shooting to great length and then she goes end over end. Before she can fall over completely Garnet tries to prop Lapis up, so the smaller Gem has a chance to regain her balance. Between her attempt at catching a Lapis and Topaz's offer to help her right herself, hopefully she didn't wind up on the floor!
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli is caught by both the gems. She stared up at them for a moment and gave a nervous chuckle. "Y-yeah. I guess the... spin was a little much. I ummm... I'm still not used to this... hair. Yet. Sorry. It was Rose's idea. She wanted me to try hers and her to try mine." She blinked a few times and then looked between them again. "Garnet... ummmm... later can... can we talk? About... fusion?" she asked very softly, staring up at the bigger gem. "I... I have... questions." She took her seat and grabbed her drink, slowly drinking more of it. The big question was where did she store it and was she going to have oatmeal wings.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz smiles to Garnet as he ends up helping Lapis back to her feet with the larger woman. "You'll get used to it, Lapis. You just need more time and practice with it." He pats her shoulder gently before looking to Garnet again. "It's going to be odd, being with gems again... after so long away, with humans. But.. it's going to be good. To meet new allies... and replace memories of less great ones with wonderful ones." He smiles wider to Garnet, then looks to the sketch of himself with his girlfriend and best friend. "I do wish I could find out what happened to these two..."
Garnet	Lapis wobbles but doesn't fall down thanks to Topaz and Garnet's assistance. Once she rights herself and it's clear she's got her balance back, Garnet gently stops acting as a counterbalance to the weight of Lapis' hair so she could handle it. Garnet can't help but smile that sounds /exactly/ like something Rose would do. At Lapis's quiet question she nods containing the wide smile that nearly jumped on her face, "Of course. We'll talk later." "Well if you stay here you might not be as far from Humans as you might think." Garnet chuckles internally as she is sure Steven will be happy to act as the human's ambassador and she is sure Connie will help too so Topaz can slowly get used to being around Gems again. "I'm sure we can help." The smile is very soft and subtle on her lips as she says this to the male Gem. She takes a last look at the sketch, "I...can't say for certain what happened to either, my Rose might have been able to help figure out what happened to Bismuth, but that's all I know." She pulls down her visor for a moment so that all her eyes are clearly visible, "Sorry." Her apology ringing with regret she can't offer any more info on either of them or her world's version of them at least.
Lapis Lazuli	Lapis Lazuli nodded and then glanced down at it. a frown formed on her face. "I... wish I could help too. But I don't..." She shook her head. "I don't... know what happened to them. I never even saw them. Or you. When I was trapped. I'd remember you if I did. I'm... I'm sorry." She hugged herself a little. "Were you two like garnet? Were you... always fused? Who did you become?" She then polished off her drink, letting out a soft sigh of delight. "Are you sure you don't want some, Garnet? They're pretty good. Maybe just a little bit?" She smiled up at the big gem, full face smile. She seemed pretty relaxed, for her.
Golden Topaz	Golden Topaz looks to Garnet and smiles. "I'd appreciate the help. Thank you, Garnet." Been a while since he said that! He then blinks and moves to hug her gently. "You don't need to be sorry. You wouldn't know my world's versions of them, I couldn't ask you to." He smiles to Garnet as he squeezes her gently. He then looks to Lapis and shakes his head. "No, we weren't always fused like Garnet. But we did fuse a lot. We became Bastnaesite, huge and brilliant, our minds coming together to create a genius, throwing ring blades at our enemies that would come back to us with a whim... it was great when we needed to make plans for a sabotage mission." He smiles to the smaller gem, happy to be reminiscing a bit.
Garnet	As Lapis hugs herself, Garnet gently pats her on the shoulder to reassure her as she is in turn reassured by Topaz that she'd done the best she could to help right now. She returns the hug until he starts talking about his fusion with Onyx. She grins as he reminisces, it's always nice to hear about others fusions. The internal debate is had once more regarding the waffles thanks to Lapis' comment, an accord is struck and a hand shoots to the nearest of Topaz's waffles and she takes a smile bite, "Just a little for now." She smirks while she tilts her head at Lapis, it's hard to tell because of the visor but that might just have been a wink.
