Sokka Sokka was feeling better, at least. His arm didn't hurt as much, Toph had encouraged him a bit. He still had doubts. She took him to the portal and well... soon they were in the building and--

ATTACK! Soon after they stepped through the portal and appeared in whatever building it came from, they were rushed by people. He was on alert... then a camera went off. Panic rose in him. Some kind of flash weapon? Designed to blind him? He pulled Toph close with his bad arm and, with his good arm, drew his sword.

There were screams when he cleaved through a few of the cameras, tugging Toph towards the exit! But now the guards were trying to get involved.

He didn't know quite what was going on but-- More of the flashes! He sheathed his sword and a moment later the camera was destroyed by boomerang as he raced towards one of the windows and, once again using his sword, cleaved through it and then jumped through, pulling Toph close.

Fortunately, it was safety glass. Even more fortunate, they were on a ground floor so only fell about two feet. Less fortunate, sokka was still hauling toph around with his bad arm and though they were under attack by the strange, disorienting weapons.
Toph Beifong     The first time she ran into them, she too was shocked and surprised.

But now Toph has gotten used to the paparazzi and how they act. The flashing lights don't bother her, though she does get a bit surprised when Sokka pulls her close. "H-hey! Calm down, they're not dangerous!" she claims, then blinks as he destroys a few cameras. Oh, this is great. And Tony chided her for breaking more cameras than necessary? "They are just annoying, they aren't going to hurt us!" she says, yanking on Sokka's good arm. They've had enough problems with the press before, and well... Tony and Pepper are certain to hear about this. And that won't bode well for her, will it?

And since he doesn't seem to know, she sighs, then reaches out a hand... and bends the floor underneath Sokka's feet, all to keep him from moving. "Stop that! They have no weapons!"
Sarah Rogers      Hearing the noise from nearby, Sarah rushes over to see what's causing the commotion. She's dressed casually, but the Red White and Blue shield she's carrying marks her as something other than a civilian.

She approaches the panicky man cautiously, with her shield raised protectively, "Excuse me Sir, That's generally more smashing than we like to see in this area. Is everything alright? This your first time away from your home world?"

She relaxes noticeably when she sees Toph next to him, "Hey Toph! Long time no see! Uh.. is this guy with you?"

Sokka Sokka barely made it a few feet before Toph stopped him. He glanced down. "Err... they don't?" he asked, sounding confused. "They... seem to have some kind of weird fire bender... trick."

Well, of course. It's almost like spending a year fighting people who threw lights in his face gave him a bit of a worry about it. Still, security was racing over and they were so going to get yelled at. It probably happened a lot though and he did sheath his sword. Ambushing off worlders like this was not the smartest thing. At least he didn't strike to kill.

On the other hand, some strange guy coming in, hugging Toph close and trying to protect her with a sword? That HAD to be front page news SOMEWHERE.

Once he realized they WEREN'T a threat he lowered his sword and sheathed it. "Oh. I ummmm... well... yeah, could really use aang about now. Distract them with some air bending. Oh by the moon..." he said, covering his face with a hand and blushing. A lil embarrassed.
Toph Beifong     That familiar shape... "Babycap?" Toph blinks, turning towards the older girl.

At least Sokka gets that the paparazzi are merely an annoyance, not dangerous. But this is bound to pop up somewhere, isn't it? Toph sighs and pulls away, punching Sokka in the arm. "Dunderhead." Then she turns to the press. "Don't worry, I'll replace the cameras. Send the bills to me, you know my adress by now..." she mutters, then begins dragging Sokka with her towards Sarah. "Yeah, this meat brain here with me is a friend of mine from my world... Sokka. Sokka, meet Sarah Rogers. She's a friend of mine."
Sarah Rogers     Sarah blushes at the mention of her old nickname. "Yeah it's me.. How've you been Pebbles?" She smirks.

She flips her shield to her left hand and offers her right hand to Sokka, "Nice to meet you Sokka! We should find someplace with fewer crowds, and stares to catch up!" She starts trying to wave off the paparazzi as best as she can.
Sokka Sokka blinked and then cringed. Always with the punching. Then the girl held out her hand. He shrugged, took it, and placed a gentle kiss on her hand. Giving what he THOUGHT was a charming smile. "A pleasure to meet you, miss Rogers. Sokka, of the southern water tribe. How'd such a pretty girl like you get a nickname like that?" Yeah, the paparazzi were going to have a field day...
Toph Beifong     "Eh, been busy with the academy and the family... you?" Toph asks with a big grin. "And yeah, we were going to grab some food. Care to join us? Going to need it before I get all the bills for these cameras..." she sighs.

The handshake doesn't cause a reaction from Toph, but the moment Sokka leans in and kisses the back of Sarah's hand, the blind teen narrows her eyes slightly.

Before she reaches out and punches Sokka in the arm. "Because she's not the original cap, meat head! Now come on, less diddy daddling here if you want to get some meat!" And with that Toph starts heading up ahead with a brisk pace.
Sarah Rogers     Sarah's eyes widen at Sokka's gentlemanly response, and blushes a whole lot deeper. Does she think Sokka looked a little silly? maybe, but his intent made it through and caught her off guard. She mutters something mostly nonsensical in response to Sokka's question, though the words Captain America and father are in there somewhere.

"Food sounds great!" She says when she finally composes herself, quickly falling into step with Toph, "I've been spending way too much time trying to find a route back home. I think it finally hit me that I actually have more family here." She motions toward Toph, then Malibu in general, "What Academy are you talking about?"
Sokka Sokka grinned up to her, nodding, "Who's the original cap?" he asked. Ah, right, off worlder. Then, in answer to her question... "Academy? Well, there's only one that Toph could mean."

Big grin. "Toph's one and only metal bending academy, of course. Accepting only the FINEST earth benders in the world and lead by the world's greatest earth bender and inventor of metal bending." He nodded. "You should come by sometime, I'll show you around." Oh, he was so flirting with her. "So, Toph, what wonderful food are you going to show me now?" He rubbed his arm. His heavily bruised arm. She was so punchy today. He wondered why. Was she upset about the thought of him leaving that much? He couldn't imagine why. He knwos he hadn't been that useful. Could no one here tell a good joke?
Toph Beifong     "Of course I'm talking about my metalbending academy, you've really not been active much lately, have you?" Toph comments with a smirk as she leads the way down the street to the centre of Malibu. "The original cap is Captain America, he's one of the avengers." Which Toph should have mentioned before, considering how much she's worked with them. "He's got a big shield a bit like the one Babycap has. An alternate version of the one who's here is her father. It's kinda complicated."

When the subject of the academy is brought up she nods. "You /should/ come and check out the place. I got help building it too, and I have four students! Well, only one of them has managed to use it practically so far, and she's not human..." Toph admits.

As for where she's taking them? The blind girl heads into a place that seems like a rather expensive one, clearly not one for people with little cash. But it also appears that the hostess recognizes Toph, smiling brightly. "Miss Beifong, welcome! Bringing some friends today?" "Yeah, we're here for the buffet. At least one of my friends is going to be really hungry," Toph says with a friendly grin to the lady, who nods and leads them towards a table by the window and not too far from the food table.

Toph turns to the other two and gestures. "Food's on me, I go here all the time with Goldie and Pepper, so I know the food is good." That's for certain, as the delicious smell of food fills the air. It's got everything, from various meat, omelettes, fruits and side dishes. Even a large dessert table!
Sarah Rogers     "Oh sure I'd love to see it!" Sarah beams. She probably doesn't realize she may have just agreed to a date with Sokka until it's too late, but then *of course* she wants to see the Metal Bending Academy, and it'd be impolite to back out now.

She nods in agreement with Toph, "It's very.. Multiverse. Seeing a younger version of my Pop here is still kind of awkward." Sarah somewhat hesitantly leaves her shield at their table, covering it in a military canvas bag so it doesn't stand out as much.

"Come to think of it, I don't think I've eaten all day." She muses. She's taking All You Can eat to heart, heading to the breakfast station and putting together a custom Omelette that appears to have *everything* in it, maybe even some eggs!"
Sokka Sokka nodded, eying the counter. "All I can eat? That sounds... like a fun concept." And then went straight for the meat! Bacon, steak, ham, roast, meat loaf, a lil bit of chicken to be healthy, and then more bacon. He came back and sat down, smiling to the girl. Wait, she actually said YES to him asking her out. He was a little stunned.

Well, of course. And before she came back... "Hey, Toph, your friend is cute." Oh she was going to kill him. "Maybe sticking around won't be so bad. So, captain america, huh? It looks like a nice shield." He gave it a nice knock. "It's the one that's like boomerang, right?"
Toph Beifong     "Well, go eat then, Babycap. And I thought you would like an all you can eat place," Toph adds to Sokka. She follows after them, clearly not in a rush to get food, sighing to herself. This... didn't exactly go as expected.

When she returns back to the table though and sets her filled plate down she does lean over and picks up a big piece of meat from Sokka's plate, stuffing it into her mouth. "Like I know anything about cute," she replies with her mouth full of food.

Let the two talk for now, and she'll focus on eating.
Sarah Rogers     Sarah sits down across from Sokka, peering at the pile of meat on his plate. "They don't have vegetables where you come from?" She smirks while stabbing a fork into her egg-wrapped cornucopia. "So, what's the southern water tribe like? I think I only ever saw your world once, and I didn't get to see very much of it, just a small patch of the Earth Kingdom." After a few bites she looks gratefully to Toph, "Thank you for.. whatever this is. Lunch? Brunch... Dunch?"
Sokka Sokka shrugged. "really?" And then reached out and ruffled her hair. "Don't worry, Toph. You're pretty adorable too." Then popped a kebob into his mouth. Once he swallows he shrugs. "Not a lot, no. I come from the south pole. We get a lot of fish and... that really about sums it up. It's cold. Very cold. Bit small, though. Not really much to do there. Mostly I spent my days training or trying to get the soldiers ready for combat." IT didn't work well. Five year olds made lousysoldiers, who knew?
Toph Beifong     Is that a faint blush crossing Toph's cheeks when Sokka refers to her as cute?

"Sokka here is all about the meat, really," Toph quickly explains and wipes some sauce away from around her mouth. "He does eat veggies, but give him a choice and he'll always go for some succulent meat." She should know him by now. She herself has never been to the South Pole, but eh, she's heard stories. Ice, snow and water. And still she agreed to go there with him soon...

"Honestly, the best part of my world /is/ the Earth Kingdom. Not too cold, it's got forests and such... and you're welcome. I guess we could call this lunch, I guess. It's food anyway."

Then Toph lets out a burp. "So... what have you been doing lately, Babycap? Missed having you around."
Sarah Rogers     "California seems like it's pretty far out of your element, what brings you here? Or is Toph just dragging you around?" Sarah grins at Sokka.

She looks to Toph now, "The short version is I've been focusing too much on the past." She sighs, "But I'm back in Malibu trying to get in touch with Tony and Doctor Banner again, trying to get active again. Was kinda hoping I'd run into you too.. and I did!" She smiles.
Sokka Sokka grinned and gave a nod. "Yeah, earth kingdom was one of the better places we went. South pole is nice, though. I'll need to get Toph a jacket." And then grinned. "You know, Toph, I bet you'd look pretty adorable in one of Katara's old ones," he teased.

He glanced to Sarah and nodded. "Eh. I traveled the earth and fire kingdom, I'm used to a bit of heat. As long as no one goes flashing fire in my face, we'll be good." Pause. "Apparently even when they do. And yeah, Toph is definitely dragging me around. I just joined the union, so she's showing me all the best places to eat."
Toph Beifong     "Sokka just joined, of course I have to drag him around," Toph points out as she arches an eyebrow.

Then there's the subject of clothes for their South Pole trip, and Toph blinks. "Uh... Katara's /old/ jacket?" Would it fit? Then again, they aren't too different in body size, with the exception of Katara being taller. So maybe it would fit... "As long as I don't freeze I guess..." she mutters, then turns back to Sarah as she picks up some more food from her plate.

"Dad has been busy with the company nowadays, Pepper needs to take it easy after all. Little Bitchin' Camaro is going to pop out soon. And then there's Christmas. I'm pretty sure there's lots of stuff you can do. I think Banner's been busy with some of his research."
Sarah Rogers     "Yeah the food is the best part of being in the Union." Sarah chuckles before shoveling more omelette in her mouth.

Her eyes start to widen as she listens to Toph. "Omigod Pepper's *Pregnant*!? I've definitely been gone to long!" Her gaze narrows as Toph continues, "He's not seriously going to name the kid Bitchin' Camaro is he?" She doesn't want to believe it, but she can practically see 'Bitchin' Camaro' emblazoned across the birth certificate.
Sokka Sokka nods. "Oh yeah, you're about her height at..." Pause. "Well, trust me, it'll fit." There was just a hint of tease to that. He then paused. "Bitchin' camaro? Is that the names they have on this planet? What's christmas?" Popped a meanball into his mouth. At least he had the knowledge to eat with his mouth closed.

He then grinned to Sarah. "Oh yeah, apparently having the kid next month. Toph's hiding me from the family until then. They just want to make sure they're nice and mellow before she brings home the strange boy," he joked.

"So, Toph and I are going to be out of town soon to deal with some Water Tribe stuff, but when I get back, maybe I can show you around the academy? It's pretty cool. Or maybe before we leave."
Toph Beifong     Wait, Sarah didn't know? Toph arches an eyebrow in Sarah's direction. "Yeah, the baby's due at the end of the year. And well... if he could I bet Goldie would name the kid that." Oh yes, she looks amused. She knows her adoptive father well, after all.

Time to reply to some of Sokka's questions.

"Nah, Camaro is the name of a car, and my dad... well, he has a strange sense of humour. You'll like him. And you'll meet them when they have the time, Goldie needs to take care of his company, and Pepper needs rest. As for Christmas, it's a holiday that people celebrate for many various reasons. Presents and food are the reasons I can get behind," she explains. Only to turn her head slightly away when Sokka talks about showing Sarah around the academy.
Sarah Rogers     Unfortunately Sarah simply doesn't know Sokka well enough to know what she's getting into, "Well, I doubt I'd be any help with the Water Tribe business, but I'd love to see more of your world.. especially Toph kicking her student's butts at the Academy." She smirks. "So.. if we're heading that way anyway, and you guys could use an extra hand with anything, I'm available." She offers
Sokka Sokka nods. "Ah yes, the car. Such a fun invention. Doesn't even use bending. Wait, presents and food? Please, tell me more. Especially about the latter. Am I going to have to get you something?" Looks her up and down. Was she wearing the gifts he got her? "Maybe a nice anklet bracelet."

He then glanced to the girl. "Hmmm? Well, it won't be that fun. Could show you some places first, though. But if you're okay with the freezing cold and hard manual labor, you're welcome to come to the water tribes. Gran gran'll probably put you to work though."
Toph Beifong     "Well, it's customary to get friends and family presents..." Toph muses. It wouldn't hurt to get Sokka a gift, she guesses. Plus it wouldn't be hard either.

"The academy could always need some help, and there's a big town nearby. So there's enough to do there. As for the South Pole, I wouldn't know since I haven't been there. But if it's so cold then they could certainly need some firewood I guess..." Hard manual labour? Just what kind of grandmother does Sokka and Katara have? "I'm just saying that I wouldn't be able to do much there considering there's no earth there. Well, besides the metal on that ship you want me to help with, that is," she points out.
Sarah Rogers     "Manual Labor isn't really that hard." Sarah says dismissively. She can bench press a small building, though she's not going to share that unless it comes up for some reason, "I'm sure I can find a way to make myself useful." She says reassuringly.

"And I'll be sure to dress warm. Although.. Pop survived 50 years frozen in an iceberg, I bet no one on your world ever did anything like that!" She says smugly. If only she knew.
Sokka Sokka glanced to Toph, then grinned. "Wellll... actually, the current record I think is a hundred years on our world. Then he went penguin sliding. And don't worry, Toph. Gran gran wouldn't make you work. On account of, you know. You being a brat," he said with a grin, before chewing another meatball.

He then gave a shrug. "Well, if you want. Just be careful. Fall into the water and it's likely the end. We don't really have any water benders now that my sis is gone. Heck, Toph is the first new beder that'll be there since katara's old master showed up."
Toph Beifong     "Yeah, sorry to break it to you, but the Avatar beat that record easily, Babycap," the blind girl says with an apologetic smile and a shrug. As for Sokka's comment, it earns an elbow to his ribs! "Strange, because you're a bigger brat than I am!" It's all said with humour though, so Sarah shouldn't be worried about the two bothering each other.

It is kinda weird that there aren't more waterbenders at the Southern Pole, and Toph muses on it. "Well, Babycap isn't exactly fragile, you know. And I do think you can swim, right?" Her own bending will be mostly useless in such a place, after all. "I don't know how useful I'll be there at any rate..."
Sarah Rogers     "Really..?" Sarah binks a couple times, then blushes. "Okay wow.. I'm not gonna try to beat that then." She replies as she looks down at her plate and helps herself to some more omelette. After a moment she peers oddly at Sokka, "There's no water benders in your water tribe? How did that happen!?"

She leans and and folds her arms, "You're both brats!" She laughs, "And yes I can swim!"
Sokka Sokka blinked a few times. Then sighed. "Hundred year war. The fire nation lived on the south, we were closer to their base. Got hit by a lot more raids. So in the end, we were their main target whenever they wanted to find some water benders. Eventually, there weren't any left."

He glanced off to the side when he said that. "Aside from my sister, of course. Butt kick lord probably would have laid an egg if he realized who was waiting down there for him and who she'd wake up. And it's not a matter of swimming. It's sub zero waters. You fall in, there's no guarantee you'll be able to move enough to swim out. Not to mention it's all ice, climbing back onto the ice can be almost impossible when you're slowly freezing to death."
Toph Beifong     It's creepy to think about just what the Fire Nation did during the war... not only did they kill all but one airbender, they also hunted down waterbenders. Luckily Katara did survive it all, it would have been even harder for Sokka if he had lost her as well.

Sub zero waters doesn't sound pleasant, and Toph shudders. "Ugh, and still you guys chose to live there?" she asks. "And Babycap is tougher than most humans, I'm sure she and Cap could survive a refreshing swim in those waters." She herself will stick to warmer water, which is bad enough for her.
Sarah Rogers     Sarah winces at Sokka's explanation, "Oh.. I'm sorry." She takes a breath, "I'm definately willing to help you rebuild then." She offers in an apologetic tone. "Listen to Pebbles, I can handle myself around freezing cold water. in fact, when we're finished here I'll show you something that should put your mind at ease." She smiles.
Sokka Sokka nodded. "Don't worry, Toph. You won't have to go near the water, I promise. I'll haul you to the boat and back, other than that you can hide in the tents and whine."

He blinked. "What? Oh, not rebuilding. We're just taking apart an old fire nation ship. I mostly just need her for metal bending. Hey, if you say you're fine with it, I'll trust you. I've met enough magic people at this point I'm used to it."
Toph Beifong     "She's one tough cookie," Toph agrees with a nod. "She and her sort-of-dad-but-not-really are both goodie two shoes who will do what's right." Somehow it sounds like she means it as a compliment. "You want a Rogers to watch your back, trust me. Because they've got the guts and the brawn to pull it off." Both Sarah and Steve are trustworthy, that's for certain. That much Toph knows after working with them.

"And for that matter, trust me to snuggle up in some furs in a tent when I can. If I freeze my toes off you will so pay."

Just what is Sarah planning on showing Sokka though? Toph can't help but be a little curious.
Sarah Rogers     "It's not magic really, not from my point of view." Sarah explains, "Same way you guys don't consider bending magic even though that's how someone who isn't familiar with it would see it." She pauses a moment, "You could say it's a gift from my Mom's side of the family." She grins, "Anyway, I think I've eaten enough for the next couple days!"
Sokka Sokka blinked, glanced to toph. "Oh yeah. Bending is totally magic. It's really annoying magic. But useful." He smirked and nodded. "We should probably get going too. I'm gonna need bigger pants I eat too much more." He flexed a muscle. "Gotta go work out, burn some of these calories, you dig." Wink.

"Toph, anything else you wanted to show me?"
Toph Beifong     "Bending is not magic if you ask me, it just... is. Like how some people can wriggle their ears or not," Toph says with a shrug, busy cleaning up her plate before Sokka announces that they should probably leave. Which might be a good idea. So she nods. "I'm not going to be done showing you around Malibu anytime soon... but yeah, sure. It was nice meeting you again, Babycap! You make sure to listen in on the radio and get ready to stop by to congratulate Goldie and Pepper, huh?"
Sarah Rogers     Sarah nods to Toph, "I'll be around. I'm kind of hoping to try and settle down in Malibu actually, or at least.. call it a home base. Not sure if I'll ever really 'settle' anywhere." She muses. She stands up and retrieves her shield, snapping it into place on her back. "Can I walk you guys anywhere before we call it a day?"
Sokka Sokka shrugs, "Sure. Toph, where too next?" he asked, helping her up and making sure she didn't kick the wooden chair. He had an odd tendency to try and hold her hand when there wasn't stone around for her to walk on. Otherwise he'd let her walk where she pleased.
