Sokka Sokka took a slow, deep breath as he stood outside the house. He'd walked home and well... it had been interesting. Long, mostly. But he'd figured it out, finally. It hadn't been easy. And he was tired. But he was finally, FINALLY, able to discuss things with Toph.

So he walked up the house and... "Hey, Jarvis, can you tell Toph to meet me outside? But only if she's not busy! Otherwise, just... wait until she has a chance."

He'd then go and take off his shoes, dipping his feet in the pool with a sigh. all he had to do now... was wait.
Toph Beifong     It's been a long day, that's for sure. The night had been a long one in the hospital, with various standard tests on the littlest Stark, making sure Pepper was okay. At some point Toph had fallen asleep in a spare bed, not bothering to change out of her dress. No, there's no way she's going home to change or anything. Buster can take care of himself for some hours. Hospital food isn't the greatest, but she wants to be here. Even if they're learning how to change diapers and give baths. But it's her little brother, it's important. Not that she's planning on changing a lot of diapers, but heh, it might be handy in a crisis. Because she's bound to be left as a babysitter now and then.

And it keeps her from thinking about something else.

Later that day however it seems that she's not avoiding that topic, as Jarvis alerts her to the visitor. The Starks just got home not long ago, though they're inside now and not on the patio. At least not until the door slides open, and Toph steps outside, closing the door behind her. Rather than the dress from last night she's wearing cut off jeans as well as an oversized t-shirt, something far less feminine than she was wearing the last time they were on this patio. Rather than walking over to him however she opts for standing by the door, leaning back against the glass as she crosses her arms cross her chest. A few seconds passes, and she turns her face away from him.

    "...hi."

Okay, that's the shortest and least friendly greeting he's gotten from Toph ever since he, Aang and Katara snuck into the Beifong gardens to look for her all that time ago.
Sokka Sokka cringed, taking a slow, deep breath. "hi... Toph. You look... nice. Can ummmm... can we... talk?" He patted the ground by him. "I... understand if you're mad at me. I... reacted... poorly. It was a lot to take in and I... really... wasn't... sure... how to react. I mean, you're... well, you. And I'm me. But... I think... I've got my head on now. I think I... understand." His heart was hammering.

"And... I don't think... I've been treating you fairly."
Toph Beifong     Even as Sokka pats the ground next to him, Toph doesn't seem like she's about to step away from the door. Instead she's quiet, still keeping her face turned away from Sokka without a response to him saying she looks nice. That's not the issue here, and well... this is just some comfy clothes, not meant to look nice. Because he's babbling, isn't he?

Is she mad at him? It's hard to tell from her expressionless face, though she does lower her head a bit when he admits he reacted poorly. Was it really that much to take in?

Tony did mention that she was out of Sokka's league, but does that really matter?

The blind teen doesn't stop the older boy from talking, though she doesn't say anything as Sokka seems to have this talking bit going well enough on his own. But she will swallow before she speaks up, her voice a bit more quiet than usual. "What do you think you understand, then...?" she inquires.
Sokka Sokka took a long, deep breath. His gaze lowered. "Do... you remember when we first met? Well, no. when we... when you first asked your dad to come with us?" He then glanced up. "I think I finally understand why you think you love me." Oh this would not end well.

"When you first left, you told your dad you'd never even had a real friend." Oh no. "And so what happened? you ended up traveling with two guys who you'd never even, well... you'd never been near two guys before. It's only natural you'd develop feelings for them. I bet you had feelings for Aang before you realized Katara had them." Oh my gosh he was going to make it worse. Men the world over felt chills.

"And then it ended up festering and boiling inside you. And... you deserve so much better than that, Toph. You're one of the most amazing people in the world. Hands down. You deserve someone who well... makes you feel as amazing as you ARE. You're possibly the most amazing person in the world I know. and I am INCLUDING Aang in that. You shouldn't let some imagined crush throw off your life and stopping you from finding what you actually deserve."
Toph Beifong     Of course she remembers when she first met Aang and the others. About how she ran away from home to go with Aang to teach him earthbending. The next words that leave Sokka's mouth however, that makes Toph's eyes barrow where she stands, and her jawline visibly hardens.

No, she hadn't made any real friends before that time considering she hadn't met other people close to her age. Only snobby people that she never connected with. At the suggestion that she had feelings for Aang however, the silence is broken by a loud snort of derision. "I've never felt that way about Aang!" she protests loudly, her face snapping towards him as she scowls.

Still he goes on, and Toph looks like she's fuming where she stands. "Do you think I'm fucking /stupid/ or something?!" the blind earthbender suddenly snaps, her hands digging into her arms. "It's not like I haven't met a lot of guys since I ran away from home, numb skull! I joined the Union not long after that, helping them out while we were fighting the stinkin' Fire Lord! If you're going to come up with silly theories and think you understand what's going on my head then just /leave/!" she yells, pointing off to the stairs leading to the front of the house.

No, Toph does not look pleased at all.
Sokka Sokka stared, his mouth opening. Okay he... he started to say something. Anything. But really, all he could do was make things worse. He looked off to the side. "Toph, I... I never meant to... I just... I..." He reached out for her, his hands shaking.

Then he pulled his hand back, making a fist and shaking. "I just... I..." He chewed on his lip.

"Damn it... Toph I don't... I..." He wanted to say so many things. But what right did he have? Toph was right. he had been so sure. he'd say this, she'd realize it, they'd laugh off the whole thing. But she was right.

"I just... I..." This was Toph. This was the number one person he could ALWAYS talk to. And here he couldn't. And... she was telling him to leave.

"... Whatever you say," he finally said, getting to his feet, sliding his shoes back on and turning to walk down the stairs. "I'm... sorry."
Toph Beifong     Standing still, Toph continues pointing towards the stairs, listening as Sokka babbles, unable to form complete sentences.

Just what more can she say? What didn't he mean to? He had said some other stuff outside of the hospital earlier, things that made it appear that he didn't think she was serious. Since when wasn't she, the greatest earthbender of all time, serious about whatever she put her mind and heart to? The moment he reaches out for her the blind girl pulls her arm back, crossing her arms across her chest again, not saying a word as she holds her breath. Are her hands shaking slightly?

Why isn't he saying anything? Why can't he say something now of all times? He's usually good at babbling, so why is he...

Toph's lips draw thin, and it certainly doesn't look like she's about to laugh. Instead she looks rather upset, trying to carry herself with that confident demeanor befitting of a powerful bender. But the expression, the way she's clutching her arms tight, that speaks more of her being the young girl she really is. And she's not talking.

When he agrees to her demand she swallows, closing her eyes as she stands still while he gets to his feet.
Sokka Sokka made it about three steps down the stairs before he stopped. His hands clenched and then... finally he turned and looked back to her. "Toph... I just... why?" he finally asked. It was all he could do.

His heart hammered, his hands were clenched into fists. He didn't know what he was going to do! Toph was his best friend inthe world. And... he'd hurt her. Bad. And he didn't understand why. He didn't understand any of this. She was the most amazing person in the world and he was... well, he was sokka. It'd make sense if he'd fallen for her. She was so far beyond his league it was like a grass hopper trying to jump on a star.

And yet somehow that star had fallen for HIM of all people? He wanted to accept it. He just couldn't. He didn't deserve something like that.

But then, he hadn't deserved Yue.

Or Suki.

Or really... any of them. So why? Why would someone like her... for him? Heck, if the paladins found out, he doubted any of them would believe it. Oh gosh, Tony was probably furious about the whole thing. Her whole family was. His hand reached up to his head, a pounding headache inside.
Toph Beifong     Why?

Does he honestly believe she's able to answer that question? Well, partially it's hard because she has to guess what he's asking about. Why did she kiss him? Why did she say that she loves him? Why did she fall for him in the first place?

The earthbender stands still, unmoving like a rock as he poses his question. Seconds pass, and then Toph speaks up, her voice barely audible. "... like hell if I know. Just forget it." With that she turns and moves to open the door, her back to him.
Sokka Sokka sighs and shakes his head. He then walked away and... by the time he was at the bottom of the stairs he was RUNNING away. He didn't even think about all those meat snack down in the house. For once. All he thought about was... her. There. Hurt. Because of him.

And she thought she was in love with him? Seriously? He was the worst guy in the world! How could she feel ANYTHING for him?
