Sokka Sokka wasn't sure how this happened. He'd gotten a message from home, apparently since he'd left early, some people were hoping he'd swing by for the new years. Especially after everything that happened. So he'd told them he'd come by as soon as things calmed down.

And they had calmed down. Sort of. What he hadn't expected, however, was TOPH saying she would come. Wanted to come, even. He was pretty sure she'd snapped, but he was completely unable to tell her no. He tried, but it came out as 'Nnnnnnes.' Which she took to mean yes. Which was why they were in their current predicament.

Riding along on Appa, him holding her to his chest and not letting anything happen to her, even as they began the slow descent down and... when they greeted him... "Soooo... Dad. Gran Gran. This is.... uhhhh... My new girlfriend. Toph."

Gran gran gave one look. "... So, finally told him, huh?"

"You knew?! We were only here a few days!"

"... You'd have to be blind not to see it, Sokka."

"See what?" his dad asked.

"... I rest my case," the older lady said before heading back inside.
Toph Beifong     Sure, their last visit to the South Pole hadn't ended too well, but as long as they stayed away from old Fire Nation ships, then it should be okay. And this time she didn't have to worry about holding onto Sokka either. Not to mention it's nicer riding on Appa like this. Not that Sokka /needs/ to hold her, but if he wants to, then she's not going to complain.

Upon landing Toph mentally braces herself for not being able to see anything for a while, holding onto Appa's saddle as she works on climbing down. It's been a while since she last met Sokka's dad from when they were working together on the Day of the Black Sun, and when they rescued him after that too. "Uh, hi..." she greets a bit sheepishly. Even if she knows he'll probably not have a problem with it, considering he seemed like a nice guy when she briefly talked with him all those years ago. Though she can't help but sigh when Sokka seems surprised that Gran Gran /knew/. "You were blinder than I am, Meat Head," she points out, then nods a bit at Gran Gran. "Y-yeah, I kinda told him some days after the Solstice, there's a celebration in the world where my adoptive parents live around that time..." It's easier than explaining New Year's, since the New Year is celebrated at a different time in this world.

Either way Toph reaches out, finds Sokka's arm and holds onto him. Lead the way around this cold place!
Sokka Sokka nodded and held onto her, holding her close and... there were awwws. "So, son, I see you've already asked her to marry you, huh?"

"Huh?"

"The necklace, kiddo."

He looked down and... Oh my gosh it finally clicked. He BARELY resisted the urge to Toph Toss. "W-what? NO! I didn't, I mean, t-that's just a-a gift! I didn't make it, I just g-gave it to her! I bought it!"

"Oh? Bought her a fancy one, ehh? Quite the lady killer, my boy."

"NO!" he shrieked. FLAIL! "I-I just thought it'd look good on her! She's not even sixteen yet!"

"Well, of course she's not, you two aren't married yet."

"DAD! NO! We're not..." Pick up Toph, haul AWAY from embarrassing parents. Like, picked her up over head, carried her off to the igloo. Gran gran glances back.

"You better not be planning to have the honey moon here."

"Oh not you too," Sokka groaned, cheeks flaring. "Toph, I'm so, so sorry..."
Toph Beifong     Oh man, they're bringing /that/ up. Mental note, make sure to wrap her scarf even tighter around her neck from now on. And well, she knows that Sokka didn't think about it before, but of course he thinks about it now. Perhaps the colour to her cheeks is due to the cold. Maybe it's something else. Who knows?

"Sokka hasn't asked me to marry him," she points out with a huff. "And we're fine with how things are for now!" She's got his back in this, at least. Well, Sokka's dad is at least correct that Sokka is indeed a lady killer. Not literally, fortunately. Ugh, at this rate they're going to make Sokka totally flustered.

She's just about to protest when Sokka picks her up, and she flails, trying to get her feet back down on the ground, or the ice and snow. "HEY! Let me down!" And she lets out a startled squeak when Gran Gran speaks up, her cheeks bright red as she huffs. "Watch it, granny! Yeah, we're dating, but it's too early to think of marriage!" Okay, maybe when they're both adults and stuff it might be something to think about, but seriously... "Now stop giving Sokka heart attacks!" Not to mention stop saying embarrassing stuff.

"And I swear Sokka, put me down or I'll knee you in the face or something."
Sokka Sokka placed her down, gently, though... kept hugging her. He sniffed the air. "Hey, is that you seal fin stew?"

"Mmmmmm hm."

He grinned and then... "So, what didn't we get to do last time you were here?" Oh my gosh he was even walking while holding her. He didn't intend to cling onto her the WHOLE time, did he? Wasn't that normally her thing?

"Nothing too dangerous. We could go snow skiing. Oh, or how about I could tell you some old water tribe stories? Hey, I think the water benders are back. If you want, maybe we could go on a patrol with them."
Toph Beifong     Seal fin stew? Eh, doesn't sound too bad. The blind earthbender sighs as Sokka keeps on holding onto her, but at least she's got her feet down on the ground.

"Snow skiing? How am I supposed to do that when I can't see where I'm going?" Wait, does he mean he'll steer? "How good is Sokka at that?" she asks Hakoda, trusting that he will know how well his son does those sorts of things. Then again, maybe Gran Gran is the better one to ask. Though she does look a bit curious. "So... did you guys get some waterbenders from the North Pole or something? Since Katara used to be the only water bender down here..."
Sokka Sokka nodded. Then realized she couldn't see. "A few. Mostly since gran gran married one of them, he came and a few of his students came with him to help prepare the tribe just in case anything happens. You know, extra friends and what not. Benders are pretty useful. They even made a watch tower!"

his poor, poor watch tower. "They're out a lot, though."

"It can't be helped," Gran gran said. "Would you like to help me, Toph?" she offered. More to help her escape sokka than because she needed the help. Time for girl talk. "And no, he's not good at all."

"Hey!"
Toph Beifong     "Oh, right! That guy who Katara fought, right?" Toph grins. Yes, she heard about that. And that silly notion he used to have that female benders couldn't learn to bend how to fight. As if! "Well, glad you guys are getting stuff back on track. Not that I can tell much..." Not that she can blame them for being out and about a lot, though. It kinda makes sense if they need to get stuff for the tribe and all.

The request for help makes Toph blink, though she does nod a bit. "I... guess so?" Surely she wouldn't ask her to do stuff that she's unable to do down here. So she gives Sokka's arm a slight squeeze before she reaches out to grab Gran Gran's arm. "You go check up on stuff and find some activities where I'm not that likely to end up face first in the snow, Meat Head!" she says to Sokka.
Sokka Sokka nodded, though he gave her a forlorn look she couldn't see before walking off... Gran Gran sighed. "So, finally told him, hm? I do hope you didn't have to use the harpoon or some blunt instrument. The boys in this family can be rather thick and Sokka is no exception." She sent the blind girl on to kneading things. Simple, at least. Nothing sharp to hurt herself on.
Toph Beifong     Girl talk isn't something Toph is too used to, not with people beside Pepper that is. The blind earthbender manages to keep herself from blushing though, and she shakes her head. "Nah, I kissed him. My adoptive father suggested I should do it to let him know..." she says with a slight shrug as she follows Gran Gran inside. And the task at hand does confuse Toph. Is she going to knead some food stuff? Well, she can do that... she takes off her gloves, and sits down as she gets to work. "I do remember you telling me that his dad was the same way..." So it runs in the family, huh. The guys don't notice stuff like this.
Sokka Gran Gran nods. "Indeed. It's genetic, sadly. I'm not surprised you had feelings for him, though. The way he always gushed about you, I had a feeling you were special to him." Pause. "Frankly, I thought even he would start to notice as obvious as you were. But now that you have what you've been chasing, does it still hold the same appeal?" wait, was she concerned? For SOKKA? Awwww, Gran Gran DOES care.
Toph Beifong     Okay, that makes Toph snicker just a bit. Are there really more dense people like Sokka? Hakoda does seem like he has his mind together, but heh... Sokka can be like that during battle too when he's focused.

It's a bit funny with Gran Gran's choice of words... 'gushed'. And was she really that obvious about liking Sokka? "I... thought I hid it rather well," she blushes. Except everybody seemed to notice it. Everybody except Sokka that is. What really surprises the blind teenager is the follow up question, and she looks honestly surprised for a moment. "Are you suggesting that I would go through all that trouble to get a boyfriend and then get bored with him?" Okay, that warrants a bit snort. "Like hell if I wanna go through all that shit again!" There's a faint blush there. "Besides, Sokka's fun... and nice." The most important qualities in a boyfriend, right?
Sokka Gran nodded. "You hid it about as well as an air bison hiding under a canoe." Ouch. "I just want to make sure that you weren't in love with the chase alone," she said firmly. "Sokka is a... delicate boy. I don't know how things are done i nthe Earth Kingdom, but I've heard some of the rumors." There was a chopping sound and the smell of something spicy. "I don't believe you would ever try to hurt him, however. According to Sokka, you're quite the mature, good young lady." She paused. "Well, at least good."

... Wait, what had Sokka been telling her? "At least as mature as Sokka."
Toph Beifong     Okay, that makes Toph snort. "I know Sokka isn't coldhearted." No, he's not afraid to show his feelings at all. "And I dunno what you've heard about earthbenders. We're straight to the point, we don't do stuff wishy washy, if we go for something we mean it. I like Sokka, he's my best friend, and now he's also my boyfriend. Win win." It's as simple as that.

"So... what kinda rumours did you hear about the Earth Kingdom exactly?" Okay, she's a little curious. Whatever she's kneading is a bit sticky, but not too bad. Is it dough or something? "I'll only hurt him if he needs a rock to the head or something," she responds. No, hurting his feelings is not something she wants to do. As for mature... "I'll let you know I'm twice as mature as Sokka. I even have my own bending academy, and we're both training in the Paladins now. Though he's taking it real seriously, that and learning how to build stuff at an official school. My adopted father has some contacts around, so..."
Sokka Gran Gran nodded. "Good. As long as the two of you are happy, that's the most important thing." She was quiet for a few moment. "I imagine you'll be hitting him with many rocks, then."

She then gave a snort. "And Hakoda is the village chief. Yet there is none in all the water tribes who would dare claim that he was mature. A title or rank means little, child." She's old and cranky, she says what she wants. "It just means less people are willing to tell you when you're wrong."

She was quiet for a moment there. "An official school? Sokka? In the Earth Kingdom? Odd, he never mentioned that."
Toph Beifong     Are they happy? Of that there is no doubt. "If I weren't happy around him I wouldn't have wanted him to be my boyfriend," Toph points out. "And yes, I know I'll be tossing more rocks at him." The last part isn't said without a mischievous grin crossing her lips.

Of course rank means little, but eh, let the old lady babble if that makes her happy. She's got better stuff to do than to argue with her. Even if she calls her 'child'. Heh.

Ah, there's a misunderstanding. "No, Sokka goes to school in the world that my adoptive parents come from. Earth-199999, it's a world with more technology. Like the suit dad had when he saved us out from that old ship the last time I was here, right?" Surely she would remember. "Maybe Sokka has some photos on his computer or something..."
Sokka Gran nods. "Oh. Right. That strange... thing," she said flatly. "Your adoptive father seems like quite the interesting man. I remember Sokka gushing about it, but I couldn't understand a word of what he said." She was old. She was NOT learning how computers work. She's got like, five years left or something. Fifteen at most.

"As long as he's doing what he wishes." She glanced down to the child. She seemed nice, at least. "So tell me, child. What do you plan to do, now? You've managed to catch my grandson, what will you do next?" Ohhhh, busy body gran gran.
Toph Beifong     "Oh yeah, Sokka is a complete fanboy when it comes to electronic stuff. I learned what I had to, I don't see the point of some of those things. Literally." For how long is she supposed to knread this thing anyway...?

"He babbles a lot about school, so yeah... I think he's really happy there. He's reading a lot, and he likes learning..." Toph says with a casual shrug. It's way better with a happy Sokka than a morose Sokka, that's for sure. "I kinda suggested it since he felt he should be doing more, I'm glad he likes it.

How many questions does this old hag have, anyway? Is this an interrogation or something? Toph doesn't halt as she works with her hands. She's got strong fingers, that's for sure. "Well, I guess I'm going to continue teaching my academy so there will be more metalbenders around, kinda my responsibility since I discovered it and all, continue to take care of my baby brother, focus on learning more at the Paladins along with Sokka... and spend more time with Sokka since we both like that. Kinda why I came down here with him," Toph responds. Perhaps not the answer Gran Gran was after, but it's a true answer nonetheless.
Sokka The old hag nodded. "Mmm, indeed. He always did have an inquisitive mind. I remember when he was a child and he tried to taste test all the hooks to find out which fish tasted the best." She paused. "..." Glanced down to Toph. "Do try to keep him away from sharp, pointy things. He's had a... storied past with them."

"I'm surprised you came with him this time. I know how horrible your last trip was. Was being away from him for a few days really that much harder than being here? Or was it just because you prefer the water tribe method of sleeping?" OH MY GOSH GRAN GRAN!!
Toph Beifong     Oh yes, that sounds like something that Sokka would do. Toph snickers a bit at that. "Yeah yeah, I know. I heard about how he got two hooks stuck in his thumb from Katara," she says. "I can't exactly stop him from using a sword though, he gets all mopey and pouty without space sword. When he lost it he wouldn't be quiet, so I had to bring him with me to the battle area and search for it. I swear, I thought he would never stop crying after we found it." It was hard to say no to Sokka at times...

Ugh, don't remind her about the incident with the ship. "It wasn't /all/ bad," Toph replies. The question does make her pause. "I... just like being around him, an--"

The second question does make Toph jerk, eyes going wide and her cheeks turning bright red. "H-hey! I'll let you know Sokka likes sleeping like that even when he isn't here an--" She halts, realises she's said too much, and then just huffs. "There's nothing wrong with snuggling up for wamth." So there.
Sokka Gran Gran nods. "Oh, I'm sure that's why you two like doing it. For 'warmth'. I believe that was the reason so many of the girls here like doing it whenever the patrols return. 'For warmth'," she said, humming as she chopped.

Just what in the world was Toph kneading? It didn't... smell too bad? Kind of smelt creamy?

"I've heard a little bit about this place you're staying. Mad-to-do. I didn't know warmth was hard to come by."

Oh my gosh Gran gran knowssssss. "Just make sure that you two are wedded before this 'warmth' gets too 'warm'. It'll be nice having some new children running around here." Oh my gosh she was pure evil.
Toph Beifong     The colour turns even redder on Toph's face, and she grits her teeth. "We're /not/ doing /that/!" she half snaps. "So stop it already, okay?!" What, she knows about the weather in Malibu? "And we have machines to make it cool inside! And it's 'Malibu'!" Ugh, what's this woman's deal?!

... just how much throuble would she be in if she threw this dough at the woman's head? She should be able to aim considering how much she's prattling...

"Look, we're not at that part yet, and there's no cruddin' way I'm having kids for many years, so go ask Katara if you want to have great grandchildren soon, okay?" Toph snorts, settling for spelling it out loud. Damn nosy old grandmother! With an annoyed huff Toph continues kneading the dough where she sits, turning her face away from Gran Gran and not bothering to hide her displeasure.
Sokka She nodded. "I see, so you made sure to have a machine to enable you to snuggle even in the heat. Quite an interesting thing to admit." Oh my gosh. Her heart was black. Cold as ice. "Stop what, child?"

"Oh? So you've planned when to have kids, then? Is Sokka a part of those plans?" ... Honestly, she was probably just doing this to torment Toph at this point. It was pretty fun. Who wouldn't enjoy it? Then... "TOPH!" Sokka came barging in, pickeed her up and... OH MY GOSH WHAT WAS SO COLD AND WHY WAS HE PUTTING IT ON HER BACK?!!! Oh gosh and it was slimy! "Look, I found a snowplume worm!"
Toph Beifong     "It was /not/ made for snuggling in warm weather!" Toph protests, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. "And stop badgering me like that! I turn sixteen soon, and no I haven't planned to have any kids! Give me ten years or so to actually finish up what I'm working on /now/!" Oh, if only there was some earth around here...!

The familiar sound of Sokka's voice catches her attention however, and the blind girl blinks. "Sokka? Wha--AAAAAYE!" The instant that cold and slimy thing touches her neck Toph jumps, nearly dropping the stuff she was kneading. "What the crud?! Get it away from me!" she shrieks, wriggling as she tries to grab for it. Ew!
Sokka Sokka lets her grab it. Oh. Oh gosh. Now she could feel it. It was some kind of giant... slimy... work thing. With crystals on the hide and... "We're going to use it to try and catch a whale hog!" ... Don't. Ask. "You almost never find them this time of year, wanna come with us?"

Wait, was Gran Gran laughing? Nooooo. Not at all. Totally not. Not Gran gran. Sokka grabbed her hand and started hauling her out then paused. "Why in the world are you kneading gran gran's butt pad ointment?"

"It makes it easier to apply," Gran gran offered.
Toph Beifong     Oh my spirits it's /wriggling/. A look of utter disgust spreads across Toph's face, and she acks and tosses it back to Sokka. "Take it back! Why did you put it at the back of my neck?!" she demands. "And what's a whale hog anyway?" Are they going to eat it or something? Man, water tribe people are /weird/! "And yes!" Anything to escape Gran Gran's questions!

Relief washes over her as Sokka begins hauling her out, though she looks confused for amoment when he begins asking his next question. And then her eyes narrow before she moves to wipe her hands on the back of Sokka's coat. "Let's just get moving...!"
Sokka Sokka nodded. "Well, I wasn't putting it there. I was hugging you and thats where the hand holding it ended up. Come on, it's going to be awesome." Haul haul haul big wide dopey grin. She was in love with an idiot. A cute idiot, but an idiot none the less.

He chuckled. "You remember the bacon stuff? From the other world? It's a LOT like that. But made of fish." ... Okay? "And they're huge, but hard to get. Especially this time of year. We've got water benders so it'll be easy, but still pretty fun. Come on!"

Wait no they were going on a BOAT ON A BOAT! At least it was a metal fishing boat. But still. BRRRRR!
Toph Beifong     "Then watch where your hand is going next!" Toph snorts, letting Sokka haul her. It's... kinda hard being upset with him when he's like this, all happy and eager. "Of course I remember bacon, Meat Head..." she snorts. "I love bacon, it's tasty and it goes well with other food..."

Of course they're going on /water/ of all things. Ugh. "Just tell me what's going on, okay?"
Sokka Sokka nods and then... later... "Sokka, you can put your girl friend down at some point."

"I will when I have something to do."

"Ah, let him have some fun. Here we all thought he'd be alone forever after that whole incident with the northern tribe water bender girl."

"Not talking about that," sokka muttered, grumbling darkly and tihtening his grip on Toph. "Are you feeling okay? Not too cold? We're passing some ice flows."
Toph Beifong     Is he going to keep on holding her like that? Not that she dislikes it, but... okay, it helps against the cold, and Toph can't help but lean against Sokka's chest. It's a bit colder out on the sea, she won't deny that. There's some curiousity though as she hears about this waterbender from the northern water tribe though, and she arches an eyebrow. Sokka isn't about to talk about her, but maybe Hakoda and the others want to? "So... was this a bad incident?" she asks, even as Sokka tightens his grip on her.

It's a bit sweet how he's concerned with her, being out of her element quite literally. "Eh, I'll be fine as long as we're not out here too long," she says. "My toes are only half has frozen as they were the last time we went out here." He better be ready to rub her feet when they get back later though!
Sokka Sokka sighed. "Yeahhhhhh. It was a whole thing. She was... nuts."

"She tried to throw you off the ice wall!"

"Completely pissed." Sokka knew how to pick them. "And we WEREN'T dating. But yeah, pretty bad. He then nodded and kissed her neck. "When we get home I'll make sure to give you a nice foot rub, okay? I know how you like those. You just blew through those coupons I gave you. Happy I knew what to get you." And no, he wasn't letting her go anywhere... until... "Okay, we're dropping the netting! Sokka!" "On it!" he yelled, before... wrapping her up nice and tight. And then walking off to get to work, with the nets and everything!
Toph Beifong     So Sokka was involved with a crazy lady, huh? Toph looks amused at that, trying to picture Sokka getting thrown off an ice wall. "Now I wonder just why she tried to do that in the first place..."

The kiss to her neck does distract Toph a little, and she blushes. Seems he can get some hints, huh? "Hey, my feet are important since I use them for bending, you know?" So she needs to take care of them. It's not her fault that she likes foot rubs, right?

For now though she just enjoys staying close to Sokka, leaning into him and half closing her eyes until he is called for by the others, and she lets him wrap her up before she sits down, waiting. Fishing is a tough job, that much she can tell. "So... anything specific you need to do for fishing these things?" she asks a bit curiously.
Sokka Sokka sighs. "It was this whole big thing. She thought I was a water bender. Then she thought I was a water bender in hiding. Then she thought I was a water bender who forgot how to bend. Completely nuts."

"Of course, your feet are one of my favorite parts of you. That and your mouth." Pause. "Wait, no, that sounded wrong."

"Mostly just set up the jar and netting to keep out the smaller fish, then wait for the big guy to come and... GRAB HIM!" sokka said, gesturing wildly.
Toph Beifong     Okay, that sounds more than completely nuts, really.

But it's even sillier with how Sokka can't say the right stuff, or rather, say stuff that sound so completely wrong. In response to Sokka's comment Toph blushes, huddling up where she's tucked in. "Strange. You keep sticking your foot in your own mouth..." she points out with a slight snort. For now she's got no idea on how the jar ties in with all of this, but she waits patiently for something to happen. Maybe she can try to catch a quick nap when she's tucked in all warm like this. Or rather, less cold.
Sokka Sokka ran about, working, pulling, tying, tugging, doing everything they need to as they work. Then, finally... they waited. And back to snuggles. "And now we wait. It can be anywhere from an hour to... well, a full day. So we get to snuggle."

There were grumbles.

"What? You could have brought your girlfriends! I was just lucky and smart, is all." Hug hug glomp snug hug.
Toph Beifong     It's hard work if they're going to do that to the net all the time... Though Toph is a bit confused when Sokka returns, not that she's going to protest against snuggles when she can get warmer. "A /full day/?" she questions, then shudders and leans in closer to Sokka, wrapping the cloth around them a bit more. If only to blush a bit when Sokka points out his plan to use Toph for extra warmth during this fishing trip. "I think that they're kinda busy actually working back at the village," she points out, snuggling her face a bit into Sokka's neck.
Sokka Sokka chuckled and gave a nod. "You were working. It was really nice of you to offer to do whatever... that was. I can't believe you were willing to touch it, though. You and Gran Gran must havee been getting along well." Snug snug snug. Just what she wanted to think about while in her boyfriend's lap. Gran gran.
Toph Beifong     Toph lowers her voice a bit so only Sokka can hear her while they snuggle up against the cold, frowning a bit. "She... asked a lot of questions. We can talk about it later...." she suggests. Getting along well? Not that she would say that... seriously, all those questions and then making her knead that nasty thing? Ewww.
Sokka Sokka blinked a few times and his arms tightened more around her. "Oh, I wouldn't worry. Gran Gran is always like that. She can be harsh at times and... a bit cold. But she really does care then, you know? And I'm happy you got along with her." He paused. "She, errr, didn't say anything about me?
Toph Beifong     "Eh, she said some things yeah... like how you're a sensitive guy and all. Not to mention worried that I was only in this for the chase or whatever..." she grumbles, leaning contently against Sokka. Like she would ever chase somebody for the thrill. In a romantic relationship that is, not the type of chasing she does when hunting down dunderheads who needs a rock to the head.

"She'll just have to do better next time and not nag me so much," Toph points out with a shrug.
Sokka Sokka chuckles and gives her another squeeze. "Okay. My little Tophiekins," he says affectionately, resting his head on her shoulder. "Well, we have a few days for you to get to know everyone... so... let's have fun, okay? There are plenty of other women in the village you can meet, too!"

Oh. Joy. Toph would just LOVE the gossip.
