The Kid     The legendary Rippling Walls, one of the wonders of Caelondia, stand before the Elites. With its innovative modular design, whole sections of the towering structure can be collapsed in a day to allow for the City's constant expansion. Masons climb, descend, and walk the top of the fortification, so high up as to look like ants. Among these workers is the Kid himself, nearing the end of his second tour.

Deployed aerial reconnaissance has found an opportune time to speak to him. Today, he is not building the wall, but clearing the Wilds just outside it so that the wall can be expanded. This is a collaborative effort between the Masons, the Trappers, and the Cinders, which means there are far more people around, burning and hacking at the flora. But the dense foliage offers plenty of hiding places, much more than the Wall at any rate.

Walking along the stretch of road between the buildings under construction, they soon arrive at the gate into and out of Caeolondia. Zia, as the child of Ura refugees from the war, is not allowed to leave the City, so she is staying behind this time. Once again, the guards are seemingly lax, taking any kind of ID that they are offered, and rattling off a clear warning that the Wilds are dangerous, and neither Caelonida nor the Ura will launch a rescue party if you get lost in it.

But their eyes glitter dangerously, and stay glued to the party's back as they leave the City on the hunt for the Kid's place of work. Has word been spread about them? Within the City, there were only the Marshals and Gravers to really worry about, but out here? The Masons on the walls, the Cinders on the ground, the Trappers, Slingers, and Brushers who are at home in the Wilds... if things go south here, the Elites will face a lot of opposition.
Rory White     Rory White is not terribly worried about a bunch of Caelondian specialists. She's made of tougher stuff than most and could probably get away. So too are her allies. But the fact that Caelondia seems so suspicious of them... is disheartening.

As the party breaches the wilds, her small array of wildlife-mimicking drones - particularly songbirds and insects - are in full operation keeping watch from many angles on visual and thermal for anything man-sized - or bigger! - moving towards them.

She has not been idle though. HIGH ABOVE CAELONDIA, so high that it cannot be seen with anything less than a telescope, her ship circles under remote control, all of its telescopes and instruments aimed down at the Rippling walls and the surrounding wilds. She's certain that she'll be able to positively ID their mark by his build and hairstyle, and failing that a facial recognition if she can just get the right angle at the right time...

And that turned out to work perfectly, didn't it?

Rory's in her usual attire, currently a blue-haired young lady in white robes that seema strange mixture of fantasy priestess and scientist labcoat...

She is visibly armed now, carrying a shock baton and a small energy pistol, but both are neatly holstered. Hopefully she won't need them!
Alexis There's more people, but theoretically less likelihood of coming across someone else in, at least compared to the Walls, more open terrain. Open in the sense of being natural areas, even if it's full of plants and overgrowth. Acceptable compromise.

Besides, after everything they dealt with in the old broken version of this world, tromping through some wilderness for a chance to get to the Kid in a more isolated place was hardly what Alexis was going to worry about.

Rory already did much of the work of tracking him down, anyways. "Y'know," Alexis mused as she followed, hands in the pockets of her hoodie like usual, "I can't help but wonder how often they have to expand like this." And if Nature being upset about it wasn't half the reason everything seemed like it was pissed off at anything man or man-made after the disaster.
Kotone Yamakawa Kotone Yamakawa has been acting as added processing power, once the kid has been found however? Kotone was quick to pull the plugs out and get herself lose of the computers. She seem to be ready to go. She'd want to use her Therm-optic Cameo but that would just get too may questions raised today. She still looks out of place but far more easily off world traveler than someone in a form fitting suit of armour that is clearly combat gear.

The long coat she had on flaps a bit, and she is armed, though she's got an SMG across her back but that's more for the local wild life than anything. As you don't go beyond the walls unarmed but she's not packing too much heat at least visually.

<<I think I see what Zulf wanted to forget things, she must mean the world to him.>>

She's not grim, she's in good spirits.

"Who knows, some worlds nature bites back and sometimes it's just because the life is agressive or there could be something with that. We got to focus on our primary objective though. Too many people's lives are riding on it."
The Kid Alexis' query does raise some questions. Zia not being allowed to leave the City at all is not exactly how most would treat 'refugees.' The Kid always thought the world of Caelondia, but having been on the walls so long would have been isolating. And Rucks... obviously held his tongue about a lot of things. What else was Caelondia guilty of?
It's a bit of a walk before they reach the edge of the Wilds, and the deforestation efforts. A few of the Caels on-duty give them a curious look, but stick to their efforts. Trappers and Masons hack at the trees with axes and machetes, before throwing the plants back to the Cinders to appraise for their worth for fuel. Those deemed worthy are expediently taken apart to more manageable size and loaded up. Those unworthy are dumped in one of many massive bonfires.

Among this sweaty, hard labour crew, the Kid still stands out. His shock of white hair stands out like a beacon. Stuff like this is young man's work after all, so no elderly around with which to confuse him. He's near the edge of the road, swinging with a machete. But there's no lethal grace in his motions like what he exhibited after the Calamity. His swipes are clumsy, rarely finding an existing split he had made. Most of the time, he just two-hands it and swings with all his might until he gets a tree leaning, then he jumps up to grab it, using all his weight to topple it.

However, in doing so, he might catch the group staring. If he does, his eyes meet theirs. Brown eyes, tired eyes, but not the hollow eyes he once had. Tired because of labour, not the existential knowledge that he is one of the two survivors of his people. "Carry on, strangers. But watch out if ya headin' for the Wilds. It ain't no nature trail," he cautions them, not a hint of recognition on his face.
Rory White     The more that Rory's seeing of Caelondia, the less sure she is about this last-ditch effort to avert history. OF course she does not wish for any Calamity to occur, but... she must ponder what else she could be doing with this time.

<<But barring Zia passage... this is such a backwards and tribalistic society. I cannot imagine living in it. Even if you have found personal happiness.>> Rory is quick to disparage the place over radio back to Kotone!

"This world has thorn bushes that have more in common with machine guns than thorn bushes." She reminds Kotone! And anyone else who might've forgotten about those AWFUL bushes...

And now that the group has reached the Cael, and she sees his working conditions... the A.G.I. must take a few moments of more conspicuous staring to process exactly what she's seeing.

A theory emerges. Was the Kid's martial prowess all a product of his loss? Or could his great perseverence and martial talent have something to do with that divine blessing he received?

He might not be any use to them like this.

"/You/ seem adept enough at handling them." She comments idly, just a bit admiringly! Because that DOES look like hard work.

She had been working on a pitch to try and get the Kid's attention, but faced with him now... it's all going up into garbage bits and bytes in her head.

"Sometimes things at home can be worse than the Wilds though, I'm sure."
Alexis Alexis shakes her head a little to put the musings aside for a the time being. "Yeah, matter at hand first," she replies to Kotone.

That white hair is still the most standout feature the Kid has. She just stops and watchs him work. Now she can really see why he was so dangerous with something as simiple as a large knife. And tough in general. This was pretty intense labor, even her stamina would be hard pressed after doing it for a day or two.

Maybe there was a faint, illogical hope. But in the end its little surprise there is no recognition. When Kid speaks up she just shrugs a little. "No, definately no nature hike."
Kotone Yamakawa Has no idea abut Caelondia has done on top of what she knows but that isn't the focus really, she hikes along and she would get looks even if she was dressed in local fashion with her eyes and skin tone, okay and the hair too but that could be written off as dye. She doesn't seem to be looking to fight, she is police to the workers as they do their thing. She sees he kid without the weight of the world upon him, just tired from a long days work. She has to admit he's creative with how he's bringing the trees down.

<<It's till their home Rory, and if we don't do anything it wont' ever get better."

"Tell me about it, and I wish I could forget about those plants so honestly I think the aggressiveness is justified towards expansion, at least it's not as harsh as say Fenris or Catchan."

Noting two infamously hostile planets on which to live on. She's has hushed up as he gives them some friendly advice on the local wilderness.

"Thanks for the warning."
The Kid     The Kid glances at Rory and lets out a slight snort before gesturing at another Mason on this shift. He's a big, burly fellow with a beard and a massive axe that he uses to fell trees in two swipes. "I ain't all that. Thanks though miss." He starts hacking at the lingering plant fibres before Rory floats an implication his way. "Haven't been off-world yet. Sorry that yours isn't as good as here," he says. He... always said he wasn't that smart.

And then, a rustling from the woods.

Z    The Kid freezes, and points his knife at the source of the noise. "Y'all should get out of here, it ain't saf-" he starts to say, before a great blue shape erupts from the dense wall of plants, sending him flying. The sound of a warning horn comes from the Walls as someone nearby shouts, "FERAL GASFELLA!" As indeed, it is one of the blue, bulbous creatures. It lacks the usual smell of rotting garbage, instead stinking of rotting plantlife. Its skin is wrinkled and oozing in places as it rolls around, secreting a noxious substance.

    It's heading for the Kid.
Alexis A creature bursting out of the overgrowth is just the right thing to trigger a Pokemon Trainer's reflexes. Alexis grabs for one of the balls clipped to her belt before she even realizes what she's seeing emerge and popping it open. "Checkpoint, kickoff!" Hearing the command as soon as he's materializing the Quiladin tucks himself into his bark-like armor to become more of a brown and green ball that drops towards the ground.

Only for Alexis to wind back a foot and kick him in the Gasfella's direction in an effort to knock the feral creature away from him.
Kotone Yamakawa There is is a moment as she hers something moving she's head the noise, she moves, she plans to act as Kid gives warning but it's clear she's had some experience form how she's acting, the first thing she notes it doe snot smell of rotting garbage nope it smells of rotting plants. She moves and Alexis punts the creature she adds to it leaping in with inhuman speed she'll leap and punt the thing even further if she can, combo kick!
Rory White     "I assure you, young man. Nobody wants to return to the land I came to be on. Caelondia is practically a paradise in comparison! But--" She doesn't get any further, because her sensors notice the disruption at about the same time that there's a rustling.

Her weapon comes out instantly. The energy pistol might not be the best weapon to use against such a huge monster, but it's the only ordinary one she has on her!

Though high above, her ship begins training its turrets on the creature. But she's loathe to fire, because the military ship-grade lasers might well start a forest fire... and railguns are right out for a ground bombardment!

So she takes a few potshots at the Gasfella while calculating the best tree or boulder to use for cover! "Beat it back, quickly!"

This... is a scenario she'd somewhat planned for, but it's happening all too quickly. Earlier, she HAD said she would fabricate weapons for the Kid to the best of her ability. And as she activates the low-grade highly modified Matter Manipulator embedded in her Morph, space warps and flashes on a brief-lived energy tether as a number of weapons hit the ground with a WHONK.

Chief among them, a mighty hammer that's almost a perfect simulacra of the Cael Hammer the Kid was fond of, though with a simplified color scheme and a more ergonomically molded grip. Some others are decisively more Transhuman Technology - a Shredder pistol that strongly resembles the Fang Repeater, and what looks like a sleek spear that sizzles with electricity at the tip when its grip is squeezed just right...

    "Well. This escalated quickly!"
The Kid     The Quillidan impacts thanks to the combined launch of Alexis and Kotone. It's body distorts in a sickening way, like someone punched a water balloon in slow motion. The spines also shred its thick skin, causing more of the foul juices to leak. But their goal is realized, the Gasfella being pushed aside to spare the Kid a grisly crushing.

But it's still standing, and Rory deploys a bunch of weapons for him. His hand drifts to the hammer on instinct, the thing he is most familiar with. But as the Gasfella swerves to charge at him again, he instead grabs the pistol and raises it. With shocking accuracy, he drills multiples shots into each of its eyes, causing it to bellow and swerve again.

His eyes are clear, but slightly unfocussed as he drops the gun and takes up the hammer, striding up to the wounded monster. With a fierce thrust, he drives the machete through its flesh, all the way up to the hilt. He then grips the hammer in both hands, and swings it with pinpoint accuracy, hitting said hilt and driving the blade all the way through the beast, causing it to erupt out the other side.

But it is then that he snaps out of it, as gunshots echo from the Walls. Triggers drill the Gasfella with rounds as the Cinders, Trappers, and Masons on the ground rush to dogpile it. In all this chaos, the Kid just stares at his hands. Post-Calamity, he did manoeuvrers like that often, but he has no memory of that. If the party wants to speak with him frankly, now's the time!
Alexis Quiladin rolls away after he rebounds off the Gasfella, shaking some of the murk off his spines as he unfurls from the bark armor ball. Then holds up one limb as if to dramatically pose with a sword he doesn't have. "< Fear not! I shall prote-- >"

He's interrupted by gunshots, the Kid rushing by to knife and spike the beast, and then much more gunfire and big hardy laborers piling in.

"< --tect the rear.> The hedgehog adjusts, and quickly scurries back to Alexis to avoid getting stepped on.

Alexis is just snickering a bit. "Still swing that hammer like a pro." Still?
Rory White     Alright, THIS change is promising! Peeking out from her cover, Rory can see the Kid's pulling out all the stops and taking to those weapons she dropped off for him like a fish to water!

But she can also see the hesitation and uncertainty mixed in with those familiar combat manuevers.

"I would like you to know, I apologize for my insensitive comments about your nation." She hazards out, deciding that with the Gasfella peppered she can come back out from behind cover and start shooting with her pistol once more. The lasers are invisible except for the BRILLIANT purple spot on the Gasfella that burns like the sun... because her weapons work on more mundane science!

    Not so fancy.

"I doubt you recognize us too well... but after this is over, there's a problem we need to tell you about!"

The fact that he DOES seem to remember anything at all, even if it's just combat instincts and muscle memory, is hopeful. Though it also leaves her wondering just HOW in the world Rucks or anyone else managed to accomplish what they did.

Just HOW does the Bastion WORK? ... Could it be re-applied to Earth...?
Kotone Yamakawa She watches as the thing takes the kicks but it's far from down yet it's still coming and then Rory breaks out her weapons, the kid goes for his hammer but it's not there as she had noticed. Kid's got a pistol in hand and his aim still seems to be quite good, he gets a number of shots in on it and it's not dead yet, the thing keep going the kid gets his hammer and well more help comes, Kotone backs up as the other locals are doing a fine job of dealing with the creature.

"The wild life around here seems cranky."

She notes good naturally and looks to the kid.

"Thanks for the help and this will sound a insane but yes as my friend said we came looking for you."
The Kid     As the poor Gasfella is beaten to death, the Kid regards the apparent strangers before him. "I ain't ever handled a gun before," he says, before looking to the bloodied eyes of his assailant. He stares at the three before him, and exhales through his nose. "But once ya put it before me, I just... knew exactly what to do. Can't explain it."

Soon, the blue creature lies dead, and the call goes up to resume work. The Cinders use a bunch of the logs they've made to roll the corpse away. "I'm on duty, but I got a lotta questions. Can we talk later? I got some leave comin' up."
Alexis Alexis pats the Quiladin on the head (carefully to avoid the spines). Nods a little. "It'd be too much to explain out here anyways. Someplace we can meet up with you later?"
Rory White     "The wild life of this world had better not migrate anywhere else." Rory states quite firmly, as the Gasfella. She adjusts her clothes and bows a bit respectfully - and gratefully - towards The Kid. For if not for his show of prowess, someone could've gotten dreadfully injured!

"We have an area... and are short on time. But all your questions will be answered soon."
Kotone Yamakawa The Gasfella is dead now it's very dead, she looked at the kid for a moment as she takes in his handy work.

"Good shooting there, and I suspect you will. WE have a spot we can meet later." She gives the lcoation and time if no one else has given it.

"We'll be there when the time comes. We'll answer all the questions we can then."
