Tamamo no Mae     There was a special room in the Millenium Capital that Tamamo had constructed, filled to the brim with seats and restraints, magical apparatuses and other 'fun' things used to test various magical and physical capabilities of people and appendages, such as the glowing arm in a locked crystal box at one end of the room, various laser like devices pointed at it. Hologram windows are popped up nearby said arm, displaying information about it.

Tamamo's in the room, a multitude of seats filled up with men and women, all in prison-orange and black/white jumpsuits. The fox turns around and smiles, "Mikon~, thank you for agreeing with this, upon completion of the trials, I have asked each and every one of your officers and judges to reduce your sentences or eliminate them entirely." she grins, "Assuming you survive. That was in the contract you signed. Your efforts will increase the Concords standings and our magical might, along with rehabiliating you to join society once more and possibly the service of the Concord."

She turns her back to them, all of them are bound in the chairs while she looks towards those gathered. "Caster did a good job getting people. It wasn't hard, people seemed to like getting out of this prison early. Most of them have some magical potential and there's a few with none to help with tests."
Seifer Almasy      Seifer Almasy scratches Caster's ears fondly as she turns around. "You did a great job, foxy lady."

He's here in his usual outfit, with Hyperion slung over his shoulder, largely to keep the peace and protect his wife in case Something Goes Wrong. Despite the bandages wrapped around his chest and face Seifer is still perfectly capable of fighting, as he's proven time and time again, so something like being kicked into the ground by Gold Rider isn't enough to keep him in bed for something as important as this experiment.

His fingers run through Caster's hair gently. "So what kinda tests are these, anyway? I mean, I know the goal, but how are you gonna go about huntin' for it?"
Thomas Alva Edison     Presiking Thomas Alva Edison was invited because of his negotiation over the hand, allowing it to be taken and researched by experts, instead of being held by the Mage's Association, where it /CERTAINLY/ would have been used to find out what is wrong, and not at all used for their own ambitious ends. Certainly.

If you believe that, there is a sandbox in the Sahara I have to sell you.

The Presiking himself stands watching the proceedings in whatever area they have set asside for observers. Of course, if things go terribly wrong, he would be one of the best people to have on hand. Hopefully, nothing at all goes wrong, and they get valueable data without horrific horror terrors pouring through from the other side.

He drums his fingers along his hand. A bit unliking of the method, but at the same time they volenteered, and it was sactioned by the proper authorities...and they were prisoners.
Staren     Staren is here. In case of monsters or the experiment going wrong, he's armored up, the next best thing to having a blast door between him and the subject.

And... she's apparently found a bunch of criminals from Concord worlds. Geeze. How morbid. But now is not the time to discuss it.

For now, he watches. This world's magecraft is not a subject he knows about.
Ryouma Sakamoto     There are four prisoners.

HIROKO MUSCARA, male, gruff, guilty of several murder charges. A man with water-based powers, not all that exceptional.

LOREEN DUENEZ, female, slender, guilty of theft and attempted murder against a member of the Concord. Unpowered. Chose her target poorly.

THI S. KACZMARSKI, male, athletic, guilty of kidnapping and torturing individuals for magical experiments. Something of an earth mage.

LUCINA NEYRA, female, average build. Caught having manipulated half a dozen economies into slowing down any progress by smuggling various wares from world to world such as to cause a collapse from which she'd benefit. Unpowered.

Of the four of them, LUCINA is the first. Using a combination of magic and rudimentary surgery (mostly magic), Tamamo extracts the Magic Crest from the arm, and implants it into the woman. It is worth noting that this is an obviously painful process, but Tamamo knows enough about magic to not mess it up.

As the graft ends, purple circuitry shoots up and down the woman's arm, reaching her hand and shoulder. She screams in obvious pain, which is predictable.

The air in the room gets... thicker. Significantly thicker. The air flow in and out of the room completely stops. It gets hard to breathe - there's flat out too much oxygen in the air, and it's incredibly stale.
Seifer Almasy      Seifer has no answer to this. How do you respond to /suddenly the atmosphere is super thick/? He could make an explosion and set a bunch of it on fire but that would probably backfire and kill everybody. He could cut it, but that doesn't actually do anything. So he just takes the time to pay very close attention to his motions, to breathe slowly and carefully, inhale and exhale on a slow, rhythmic pace so he doesn't start hyperventilating or panicking.
Thomas Alva Edison     The Presiking watches, he is silent as this starts. Not once does he turn away, instead focusing square on the experiment.

When the air changes, he notices it. Though he does not exactly need to breathe, being a magic ghost, he does wonder what is going on. He remains calm, this could be simply an initial reaction. The air feels tense now, because right now anything could happen. His hands reflexivly close into fists, waiting.
Staren     Staren winces as the woman screams. And then... his environmental sensors start giving what look like bugged out readings, and the armor's computer automatically switches him over to internal air. Others are, presumably, acting like they can't breathe. "H-how do we shut this down?" Staren approaches the prisoner uncertainly. He makes a note to add... several doses of injectible blood oxygenator to his kit. Will a suit help in this situation? Ah, maybe. He approaches Seifer... no, Tamamo. Grabbing things from his bag. If she doesn't magically provide air somehow... Oxygen torc. He puts it around her neck and hands her an orange-sized blobject which reshapes into a suit. To Seifer, he unfurls a jumpsuit and holds it out for him to step into. It'll take care of the rest once the hood is on. He offers one to Edison, who'll probably point out he's a magic ghost.

"How do we stop it? Do we kill her? Slice the arm off?" He doesn't know how this works, so he can only toss out ideas and check with the expert.
Tamamo no Mae     Her Knight, another Servant, the power armored catboy are all there. "You're recording this, right Staren?" As she finished the graft, she watches the circuitry shoot up. A pretty sight, and the screams of pain being music to the Caster's ears. "Oh come now." she chides a bit, before the air changes, "Hmm, this is new." she mutters, this one's unpowered, no magic at all and yet, this is exactly not what she expected. She gives a bit of a nod, writing a thing down before she pulls out a cleaver.

"We'll give it just one more minute." the torc is around her neck and she can breathe better, this is good. "After that, you're right, we cut the arm off, then graft another peice to the other subjects. Assuming she doesn't die first." she makes a matter of fact nod, writing more things down, taking looks at the circuits. "I need you to try and control it. Think, focus. Yes, I know you're in pain, you can get past it.."
Staren     Staren nods, and turns to the prisoner, pulling the hilt of his plasma saber off his hip. Although she probably doesn't know that. "Listen to her. If this doesn't work, you will receive a replacement hand."

    BEDSIDE MANNER.
Ryouma Sakamoto     People acquire safety.
Presumably the other prisoners are in a side-room.

As air continues filling the room - evidently faster and faster - movements start becoming sluggish. The air is almost physical - there's so much of it, and it's so... still. Refusing to flow. It's like walking through jell-o.

LUCINA is probably listening to what Tamamo and Staren are saying, and if she could vocalize something other than a scream she might be glad to hear Staren offer a replacement arm.

Attempts to control it go... average. She neither loses control nor masters it. But the effect is definitely getting worse. Staren might even find that his plasma blade won't ignite quickly or easily, because even the current flowing inside it is starting to chug along at a greatly reduced rate.
Staren     Staren waits for Tamamo's confirmation. If she gives it...

His plasma saber doesn't start. What the hell? Physics is being weird. He needs a physical tool. He pulls a smart material machete from his bag -- hopefully it still unrolls and hardens normally. "I'm sorry."

The power armor's heavy strength augmentation takes care of the rest. He's quick to apply nanobandages after, wincing. "Someone get her some pain meds."
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo nods slightly, good, control is good. It's not blowing up, but hey, things are going well.

Then Staren goes for the arm.

"I knew I forgot something..." comes Tamamo's voice with not much empathy. "Husband, can you use curative magic? Please assist."

Tamamo turns around towards a side room, "I'm going to prep the next vi... test subject. Recommend this one's sentence reduced to one month."
Thomas Alva Edison     Edison gives a rumble when he hears this.

Though he doesn't say anything farther, though it's not a happy sound and he doesn't look happy.
Seifer Almasy      "I can't," Seifer tells Caster, "I've got some potions, I guess, but they're not gonna do this any good."

Seifer does, to his credit, show more empathy than Tamamo does, but not by much. These are criminals. They signed up for this. They knew what they were getting into and he can't really care about them; they were Bad People who did Bad Things. Human rights are for humans.

But he does, still, hold the woman still so she doesn't bite her tongue off or anything. He's not...a monster.
Ryouma Sakamoto     LUCINA is rescued. She's suffering from a lot of internal damage consistent with organ rejection and failure. It's nasty, but it can be fixed.

Eventual analysis of her body, magically, will reveal her element to be WIND and her origin to be STILLNESS, giving context to what happened.

With the woman cycled out, the next is pulled in. LOREEN DUENEZ is next, and presumably secured to the table and/or chair before the operation can take place.

Once it does, and everyone is ready, the same process repeats itself. Black-purple circuitry shines through her veins and skin as the Magic Crest begins invading her body.

... nothing seems to be happening.

Staren gets all sorts of alerts on his scanners. ALL. SORTS. Something is happening around the room, chemically. The arrangement of materials is being shifted, such as to bring out flammable qualities.

The air, for that matter, is starting to split apart into hydrogen and oxygen separately.
Staren     Don't mind the bloody armrest, LOREEN.

The magic crest starts again. Staren sees nothing seem to happen. And then...

"Holy fuck, NO ONE MAKE ANY FIRE! Tamamo, can you guide her to /stop doing that/? Why didn't we have a magic teacher here? Can we get the crest back off her without..."
Thomas Alva Edison     "What is going on?" Because he can't tell anything has changed yet, he has no monitoring device, nor magical science sight.
Tamamo no Mae     "Removal of the limb is the only way, Staren." a pause, a look towards Staren, "No... fire?" there's a frown upon Tamamo's face... and apparently now everyone knows her name here. "Hmm, Loreen, yes." she frowns a bit, "Concentrate, it's a new power. Just focus." there's a pause from the fox caster, tapping her foot, and a quick look towards Edison, "Kindly erase my name from your memory, ok?"

She looks around, taking a nice, close look at the magic circuit. "This is a different result compared to the last one. The last one was able to control the air to an extent... this one seems to control... something." she hmms, "Focus please, Staren will provide a new limb if it comes to it, but we need to make sure things are ok."

She looks towards Edison again, "She seems to be able to make things flammable according to Staren's 'no one make any fire' yell." obvious fox is obvious. "I don't think you approve of torture either, but this is our best bet, ok? I promise you'll get some good information out of it."

She taps her foot, "One more minute, then Staren, please do the thing."
Staren     Staren rolls his eyes at being designated hand-chopper-offer at this point. "You know, maybe you should just build a little hand guillotine into the chair if you're gonna do it this way..." he mutters. "I'm picking up a chemical change in the atmosphere, increasing levels of oxygen and hydrogen."
Thomas Alva Edison     "Not my grail, not my war," Edison says, calmly. "Also I wasn't summoned...specifically by a grail for a war." He explains. "It's complicated, and potentially having to do with this arm. Potentially."
Ryouma Sakamoto     Loreen is screaming too loudly to hear Tamamo.
There's no focusing or controlling here.

The reaction begins spreading. Paint bleeds off the walls as it liquefies into something flammable. Electronics start rearraging themselves into messes liable to short out. Batteries start swelling.

Edison's magical existence starts feeling a bit more like 'mana queued up for an explosive spell' than 'mana being used to sustain a ghost'.

It's like everything is being shifted - a bit painfully, too - to become fire's best friend.
Seifer Almasy      Seifer doesn't hesitate.

He just surges forward. In one quick slash, Hyperion goes from on his shoulder to carving through Loreen's. It's a perfect movement, no wasted motion, from perfect resting position to a flashing blade that stops *just* an inch from Staren's shoulder.

He shrugs at Staren as he shoulders the blade again. "Yours mighta blown us up," he says helpfully.
Staren     The moment comes. She's... not controlling whatever this is at all. Just as Staren's about to 'do the thing', Seifer jumps in. It's a cleaner cut, although more arm is removed than he'd have hoped. Oh well, that just means she'll need a whole cybernetic arm. "...I was gonna use the flex cutter, not the plasma saber. But... good thought. Man, Hyperion is sharp..."
Thomas Alva Edison     There is a feeling deep in Edison's spirit that does not feel right, it starts getting worse by the second. He moves to steady himself as he feels his essence start to become transformed from a form solidifying spell, into an potential explosion.

He briefly looks bloated, but luckily with the short work of a gun blade, the mana returns to normal and now Edison won't die as an explosion...unless Tesla was nearby.

Taking a few moments to just breathe, even though he does not half to...he shakes off the feeling. "That was...increadibly unpleasant."
Staren     Staren then realizes she's bleeding terribly and applies more nanobandages. "Can we try a trained mage next? It seems unlikely that anyone will be able to learn magecraft under these circumstances."
Seifer Almasy      "Yeah," Seifer says, tapping Hyperion on his shoulder, "Plus I got real good aim."

     That's an understatement.
Tamamo no Mae     "Failure number two. And sorry Presiking, I'm pretty sure that was uncomfortable." a pause, "I appreciate the thought, not your war." Caster sighs a bit and nods, "The only ones left are mages. We had to use some non mages to get some controls, you know. After all, can't just always practice on a magic user."

Tamamo moves out to gather the third unfortunate subject and prep them for the procedure. Tamamo doesn't even seem to be close to phased on people losing arms or the like.
Ryouma Sakamoto     Out goes Loreen, who is also suffering from crippling organ failure and other symptoms associated with organ rejection. Given a few minutes to cleanse the room and recover, there are very little signs of what went wrong left.

For the record, her element was FIRE, and her origin CAUSATION. That's going to explain a few things.

In comes HIROKO MUSCARA next. The murderer. The magic-user. He's cocky, he's confident, and once down, seems to be thinking he can handle it despite what just happened to two people.

The graft goes a bit smoother with him. Once Tamamo is done, the Magic Crest doesn't activate immediatly.

"So y'want me to use this?"

    He glances at his arm.
    Closes his eyes, focuses.

Black-purple lines shoot up from the graft site, down his hands and up his shoulder. He grins wide, evidently not in pain.

"Oh... Oh I see what this is. I can... FEEL the Swirl. And it's telling me..." Oh, it's not telling him anything. He's hearing what he wants to hear.

Water shoots out of his wrists and ankles, shattering his bindings. He surges to his feet, and then raises his arms, firing unending streams of water towards Staren and Seifer specifically.

The water is doing something incredibly awful.
It's looking for ways in. Creating cracks in armor, holes in clothes, gunning for ear canals, nostrils, mouths, even skin pores. The water wants in.

    "NOW THIS IS POWER!"
Seifer Almasy      Seifer's lips split in a wide grin, and he just goes forward.

The water starts digging in. It gets under his skin. It gets in through his eyes. It gets in his mouth. The tendrils of water can be seen struggling under his skin as Seifer presses forward. It's pure willpower, at this point - he's fighting on willpower alone as his skin rises, as the writhing water digs deeper.

He holds up his left hand, covered in Caster's command spells, wound like a wedding band and a fingerless glove, and points it at the enemy as the water digs under his fingernails.

He tosses the gunblade to Caster.

And then he forces out some of his soul force directly into the man's face.

     Explosion.

     It's mostly a distraction.
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo nods, "Water?" she looks towards Staren and Seifer. She looks a bit apathetic at the whole situation, looking between the subject, her husband and Staren. She watches the water try to break into the armor and she nods, "I see, I see."

Meanwhile, gunblade incoming. She catches it and gets ready to aim. She's not a Saber so this might... not work as well as people might think, but. "Okay, thank you for the information. I'm going to chop the arm off now and we'll fix you up with a proper one and reduce your sentence like the other two."

Tamamo takes aim... raises the gunblade... and waits a moment.
Thomas Alva Edison     Edison, just recovering from ONE thing going wrong...

Oh dear. This time things are going very wrong, and for everyone around him.

The large Lion-headed man takes a step forward. His eyes blazing as he looks at the man with his newfound power. The lights turn out.

Where there were no lights, there is now a single very bright spotlight over the entire room. It shines a brilliant light down, aiming to flood the room with the light. Edison, with a sign behind him, roars.

    EDI
        SON
    Not Today Mage Boy

The roar releases the light in it's full potiental, creating a field of antimagic. In this light, even gods can die. It is the light of progress, of human civilization, and the banishment of ignorance. The banishment of the oldways, for the world that humanity reaches for.

Luckily, it's targeted, and it's only target is this crazy mage with a new toy.
Staren     Staren rolls his eyes. "Wrong move, buddy."

...And then he notices the water is being WEIRD. His armor saves him again, but not for long... the water is eating away at it, making the smallest cracks... and the smallest cracks are all it needs to get in. Fortunately, the seal is multilayered.

Staren doesn't just stand there talking, though. He's already pushing against the stream of water, then trying to get around it, wings and thrusters straining. He just has to get close enough to crush their chest, head, or neck with raw strength...

...And then Edison intervenes, and Tamamo says they're not going to kill him. Staren rushes in to grab him "Seriously? He just attacked us. That's not breaking the agreement?"

Staren looks down at the mage. "Today's your lucky day, apparently."

He makes a slightly less clean cut this time, not properly bracing the mage's arm against the chair to use as a chopping block.

While the mage is no doubt screaming in pain, Staren gestures at the remaining prisoners with a machete still dripping with blood in one hand, while holding the dismembered hand in the other. "Next guy who tries that, we may just kill you." He glares at them for a few seconds, then turns to apply bandages to the stump. He meets the mage's gaze and says in a quieter voice, "You just tried to kill two Hands of the Concord, buddy. You have one last chance to change your ways. Otherwise, you may want to endeavor to stay below our notice for the rest of Time."

He hands the arm to Tamamo and stands back in what is now apparently the appointed chopper's position.
Ryouma Sakamoto     Seifer blinds the man momentarily.

Light shines upon the mage next.

The circuitry on his arm withdraws.

If this were truly the First Magician wielding the First Magic, it might not be enough to shut it down. But it isn't. It's a tiny fragment of it, latched onto a nobody going power-hungry.

"W-What," Hikoro rumbles, falling to one knee, pained. "The FUCK did you just do?!"

As valid a response as any.

He tries to shift his body. Tries to... TRIES to turn into water. Can't. And then Staren cuts his arm off.

He's not going to be putting up a fight for whatever comes next.
Seifer Almasy      Seifer gasps as the water comes pouring out of him, once Edison's power kicks in. He hits the ground on all fours. It spills out of his mouth, out of his eyes, out of his hands. A little blood comes with it. Seifer gags, then grabs his throat and sucks in a deep breath.

Once he can stand, he's doing so, wobbly though it may be.

     "Mother.../fucker/!" Seifer manages.

Yeah he's in a lot of pain right now.

He looks over at Tamamo. "As a Hand of the Concord I hereby give you permission," he says, then looks over at Staren for confirmation.
Staren     Staren blinks. "Hm? For what?" he honestly misunderstood Tamamo's earlier words as intent to spare the man.
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo gets ready and Edison uses a Noble Phantasm.

Suddenly, Tamamo is /REALLY GLAD/ that Edison is on her side right now. Along with Nobunaga now.

The fur on Tamamo's tails is frizzed up and with Staren now holding the guy, she shakes her head. Seifer gives her permission, not like Tamamo needed it. "See, we just cut your magic supply off. The agreement was to cooperate and you'll get a reduced sentence." Tamamo frowns, holding Seifer's gunblade, "Now, see, when you decided to attack Staren and MY HUSBAND..." she makes a pointed note at that... "You broke the agreement. Now, I'll still give you a reduced sentence, and to all present, I'm not really sorry for what I'm going to do next."

Tamamo knows where a heart is, she feeds Seifer hot dogs, it's a stomach! But in this case, she wants this body nice and perfect. She aims the gunblade just briefly, before swinging it through the neck. "Sentence reduced."

Tamamo looks through the window to the last person, an evil grin upon her face, using this guy as a demonstration for the last magic user in presence. "I'm coming for you."

She walks past Seifer, handing his gunblade back before heading out to prep that last victim/test subject.
Thomas Alva Edison     Edison drops the spotlight, the magic of his Noble Phantasm fades. The power of the WFD fading, and the world returning to normal, only once the man was properly executed. Not his lands, not his rules, and the man did attempt to murder members of the state. While this isn't what he'd do in America, and most Paladin's would balk at this, he isn't there. These aren't Paladins territories, and he made a promise he would respect their laws, even if he didn't agree with them.
Staren     Staren throws his hands up. "Well you shoulda just said so! I was gonna kill him until you said you were gonna 'reduce his sentence'. If you're gonna do a cool one-liner that could be ambiguously interpreted, make sure we understand first!"

Staren takes a breath, and looks at the head. Well, damn, he's in a spot now, isn't he? Since he thought Tamamo was promising to spare the guy, now HE, a Hand of the Concord, said he had one more chance.

He'll have to collect that head on the way out today.
Seifer Almasy      Seifer takes Hyperion and shoulders it, grinning at Staren. "Sometimes she just wants t'do it herself. Can't fault her for that, can ya?"

He puts a hand on Staren's shoulder and squeezes slightly.
Staren     Staren folds his arms. "She should've been clearer." He doesn't sound mad, just... frustrated.
Seifer Almasy      Seifer shrugs. "I guess I can just read my wife better'n you can."
Staren     Staren nods. That's obviously true.
Ryouma Sakamoto     RIP, jerkmage.
And the point has been thoroughly made to the remaining prisoner, THI S. KACZMARSKI, the kidnapping/torture guy.

Predictably, the graft goes without a hitch this time, and gives everyone plenty of time to recover and catch their breath from that dip in the pool.

By the time it's done, the bound mage asks, in Russian, "So just tap into this and show you, right?"

    Right. Just...

Just tap into this and show them.

Thi accesses the Magic Crest. Purple-black lines spread, as normal - his eyes begin darting around rapidly. Like he's seeing something.

    "... huh?"

    Nothing is happening.

"I can... I can reach it. OK, I just..."

    Nothing is happening.

    "Go forward, grasp for it...!"

There is Someone Else in the room.
    Unseen.
    There, but not really there.

    "Wh-- who are... WHAT are..."

    Nothing is happening.

    "God damn... red monster!"

Thi's body goes catatonic after several moments of intense, violent struggle against his restraints. He is dead. The circuitry withdraws from his arm and the Magic Crest goes inactive (because he's dead, not because it lost its power).
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo nods and looks at Thi. Grafting goes fine, that's good. Nothing is happening, that's even better.

Tamamo watches the access, looking at the lines then the eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Okay good, tap into it, get it..."

"It's just us." nothing's happening still, Tamamo frowns... and she watches the struggling against the restraints, she frowns. "What did you see?"

No response... and the body is dead. Tamamo sighs a bit, "The two non magic users got off easy. The two mages died. Sad." Tamamo shakes her head and she looks at everyone present. "Caster has got some good information from it. Bloody, but good information." she hmms, "It's definitely unstable."

She looks at the bodies, then back into the waiting room for the two with only one arm... then she looks back at the purple arm in the crystal box. "I need more. It seems only partial but I need to make sure. Get me more of these crests, I don't care how." a look towards Edison, "ANd I promise more information for you and my Concord."
Seifer Almasy      "Hey, look at that!" Seifer's grin is huge. "I guess that solves that."

"Two live, two dead? Not bad odds for a dangerous magical experiment that mighta backfired on us at any minute. Caster really knows what she's doin'."

He taps his gunblade on the back of his neck. The weird talk about a red monster, and the man just dying, and the feeling of Another Person In The Room, is intense enough that Seifer's just gonna plow through it like he does everything else. Caster talks, and Seifer stretches. "More, huh? Alright. We can do that."

"Assumin' those Mage's Association dopes don't try an' get in my way again." Seifer shoots Edison a Look, like he knows full well that they will, and like Seifer is absolutely gonna just plow right through them, too.

"Good job, Caster." He walks over and kisses her forehead, then scratches her ears gently as he turns around to face the others. "So! Progress. Goals. All that good shit."
Staren     "You know... I could try to bring him back so you can ask him what he saw." Staren points out.
Tamamo no Mae     "You... can resurrect the dead?" Tamamo looks curious at Staren, then hmms, nodding. "Yes, let's go ahead and do that, we can always kill him again... or let whatever happened take care of him."
Staren     Staren gives Tamamo a surprised look. Didn't everyone know he did this?

    Beat.

"Oh you mean right now? Um... Just a bit, I gotta take him to the scanner and the scan takes at least ten minutes."

He carries the head of the first mage and the body of the second, off.

The head is chucked into medical stasis for dealing with later. The second mage, who saw something, is left in the scanner, while Staren sets up a holoprojector and cameras in whatever room Tamamo and the others want to meet in.

"...He's ready." Staren announces. From their point of view, a hologram of the dead mage appears, as if he were alive and well, a computer-reconstructed image of his body. From the mage's perspective... well, a simulated room is constructed around him based on the camera feeds, so it's basically like they're in the room together but can't touch eachother.

"Welcome back." Staren starts off with. "We have some questions..."
Ryouma Sakamoto     There is nothing stopping Staren from doing this. The body is fine. The brain is healthy. Nothing about this body indicates damage, and scans come out pretty clean.

But what Staren gets isn't... a person.

It has no self left. There's no personality, and only one memory left.

The resurrected Thi only mutters, incessantly: "The red death, the red death, the red death..."

Giving him a name at all is probably putting too much value onto what's left. It's spiritual death, destruction of the self.

It'd make a fine drone, zombie or AI, though.
Seifer Almasy      "Well."

Seifer taps Hyperion on the back of his neck and voices what probably everyone is thinking.

     "*That's* fucking creepy."
Staren     Staren looks surprised. "It was supposed to catch things like this..." He inclines his head slightly and sighs. "I guess this is my first Vapor. Since I rely on a scan of the brain to bring them back, if there isn't enough to bring back, we get..." Staren shrugs, looking at the hologram. "Well, you never really know."

After a few more seconds of the repetition, Staren halts the ego's execution as he would with any other program. The hologram freezes in place. "Sorry."
Tamamo no Mae     Tamamo nods a bit at this, "It's ok. Red Death, huh?" she taps her foot, the fox caster shakes her head a bit, "I may have to take a personal visit to this Mage Association. I'm sure they'd like to see a servant waltz right in and say Hi." there's a fanged grin, "It's surprising that the non-magic users ... lived compared to the magic users, I wonder... does this crest hate people who already have magic?"

She hmms a bit, looking to Staren, then Seifer. "I think we'll have to compile a report... and send word to the prisons that two are dead, one from breach of contract one from the experiment and two should get their sentence reduced."

Tamamo then turns directly to Staren, "See that they can have a good arm again, please? I'll pay the expenses." a pause, "And I'll make you some hot dogs."
Staren     Staren nods to Tamamo. "It's not as expensive as you think. Just the raw materials and some power." He starts to walk off, then pauses. "Wait, I have /people/ for this now." He gets on the radio and starts walking some Concord science guys through the operation of the healing vat for diagnoses and installing cybernetics.

Red Death guy's ego (brainscan) is deleted. The body is kept for mages to double-check, and if declared clean, hey, never know when you might need a spare body.

Murders McGee is, because Staren accidentally told him he'd get another chance, scanned and then put in a case (low quality robot body), with an overwatch AI that reports on him and prevents him from hurting people, and sent to complete his reduced sentence and then go to rehab with the other volunteers.
