Sanary Rondel     In the region of Fall, humans aren't the only species trying to live peaceful lives. Zombies, ghouls, and all manner of humanoid monsters have found their own corner of the land, building their own villages, towns, and even holding their own festivals in celebration of whatever.

It's in one of those very monster villages that the distress call has issued from. There's a pitched battle going on already, zombie parents running away with slime children clutched in jars in their arms while their zombie dogs flip over in their haste to run due to only having three functional legs.

THE COMBATANTS: The SWORDFIGHTER who is locking twin swords with an axe-wielder! The CLERIC who is supporting the swordfighter! The ARCHER who is pelting the axe-wielder and villagers with arrows! The WIZARD whose head is already in half. The AXEFIGHTER who is locking giant axe with a swordfighter!

    What do you do?
Aoko Aozaki     One doesn't need purpose to get involved.
One just needs a lot of luck and solid feet!

There's a crimson-haired disaster in the village when the hostilities start, just sitting off to the side and drinking tea, probably chatting with a skeleton and making really awful jokes. There's a suitcase-style drunk next to her, and she couldn't look less assuming if she tried, donning the heroic outfit of... jeans and a plain white t-shirt.

Her eyes look off to the sounds of battle when it starts, watching the monsters flee as she casually finishes that tea of hers.

    This isn't her problem!
    Not yet anyway.

But it might pay off to stick around and watch.
Athela Valemore     The sound of hooves hammering the ground is hardly an unusual sound when one is expecting a rescue rushing in.... Might be a little more unusual that those hooves belong to a large green and brown goat rather than a horse of some kind. Might not be as exceptionally fast as the aptly named Rapidash when it comes to mounts, but there's a thing to be said for the rugged sure-footedness that a hearty Gogoat can provide when it comes to charging into certain danger.
Upon the beast's back sits the Champion of Keldeo, cloak and red hair fluttering behind her from the speed. Athela has a hand on one of the goat's horns as a method of directing it without reigns to get tangled in things, while the other is gripped tightly around the hilt of her weapon. Resolute Blade held ready at her side, but not brought to bear just yet as she gets a sight of what's going on. Great. Is this one of those bands of so-called adventurers that just consider all monsters an enemy to be slain?

But first thing's first. "The arrows -- Razor Leaf!" Athela commands, giving her unorthadox steed's sides a light jab with her heels to punctuate the command. Gogoat brays loudly in response, skidding to a stop and releasing a swarm of blade-like leaves spinning into the air in an attempt to intercept the projectiles.

Athela leaps off the Pokemon's back as he stops, expression already set in determination. "Stand down! For what reason doth ye have for assailing this villiage?!" True to knightly form she gives the attackers a chance to back off, or at least explain themselves.

But by the way her grip tightens around her weapon's elongated hilt it's clear that the Multiverse has taught the young heroine just how often this actually works.
Morgan Berselius Pfft, who just sticks around and watches?

Not this one!

A pool of liquid shadow nearby materializes into a form that is distinctly humanoid but simultaneously also distinctly... Shadow-like? It's as if you punched a person-shaped hole through reality and filled it with utter darkness. A pair of gleaming eyes ignite in the figure's head. It turns left and sees a whole bunch of... Weird... Things. Skittering around. Skeletons? Slimes? Living peacefully!? What is /this/ nonsense now?

Well. No matter.

Morgan gestures! Suddenly the shadows spread and begin to grow thick and viscous... before bursting with terrifying, grappling limbs, tendrils and other unpleasantry to try and suspend /literally everyone/ even wandering near the battlefield by their ankles.

"Hey," the shadow says, drifting /right/ into the middle of the melee, "What the heck is this all about? Someone want to explain why there are a bunch of undead spreading out across the countryside before I start doing /things?/"

The shadow pauses for a moment, before someone just kind of... steps out of it. A young, raggedy-looking someone at that. "Right, probably best to get off on the right foot. Now, who wants to do some /explaining?/"
Sarracenia      A call for help went out, and the kingdom of Sundew heard the call!

Or, well...at least one headstrong princess. As the combatants combat each eachother a wooden aircraft much like a Harrier flies in overhead, and the already loud voice of Princess Sarracenia is made even louder by a speaker. "Cease hostilities at once! The creatures of this area are people like any others! Unless you have a very good reason for attacking them I suggest you withdraw before you face the amazing Princess Sarracenia! Crown Princess of the Sundew Kingdom!"

Just to make sure they take her seriously, Sarracenia lowers a cannon from the underside of her aircraft and fires a Bullet Bill, which impacts the ground behind the healer and explodes. Probably not enough to hurt anyone, but surely enough to get some attention and make it clear she is on the side of the monsters. Seems someone else had a similar idea, and Sarracenia waves to Athela with a grin.
Zero      A distress signal. A call for help. It's a scenario that Zero is very familiar with, and one that he really can't stop himself getting involved with, even if he doesn't have a reason to.

A red figure slowly makes its way through the current pandemonium of the zombie village, pushing through the fleeing crowd of villagers as it makes its way towards the cause of the commotion.

There's a brief pause as they come across the group of adventures, their eyes quickly scanning across the battlefield before locking with the SWORDFIGHTER.

There's no time to assess the situation any further, just act. With that train of thought in mind, Zero reaches a hand down to the white holster on his hip, the hilt of his saber already starting to eject from the storage device as he does so.

"Mission start."

Zero dashes up behind the friendly axefighter, and without warning, decides to use them as a human stepping stone to attack the SWORDFIGHTER from above with a downward thrust of his blade.
Sanary Rondel     The SWORD and AXE wielders barely take their eyes off each other as they continue clashing with rapid and wild swings of their weapons, respectively, the former looking much like a standard fantasy warrior with a horned helmet and armor that leaves most of her torso and limbs inexplicably exposed while the latter looks like someone trying too hard to look cool with a white coat, eyepatch, and barely even glancing at all the arrows sticking out of her.

The ARCHER turns as his arrows are intercepted by the volley of leaves launched by the Gogoat, turning his bow on Athela and her steed in turn. Before he can fire, however, the CLERIC calls out a warning to his allies as Morgan's shadowy tendrils latch onto the SWORD fighter, and Sarracenia's declaration of royalty (also the explosive) send the CLERIC knocked flat on his face!

"Dammit... What's it matter? This town is full of monsters, not people! Who's side are you on?!" The SWORDFIGHTER yells in response while the AXEFIGHTER leaps backwards to avoid being grabbed herself. The latter has the unfortunate timing of doing so right when she's being used as a stepping stone, landing flat on her back afterwards while the SWORDFIGHTER clashes twin steel blades with FUTURESWORD! The AXEFIGHTER scrambles backonto her feet, but doesn't rush forward upon spotting a few familiar faces. "I'm not with these assholes! Uh. Hey, Sarra. Hey... Athena, right?"

    The WIZARD is still dead.

The MURDERHOBOS regroup quickly, however, with the CLERIC moving to bolster the SWORDFIGHTER with healing magic to ensure her survival while the ARCHER grabs the WIZARD's ankle to drag her back into their three-person formation. "If you're going to get in our way, then..."

They leave their sentence unfinished, almost as if gauging the reactions of the new responders.
Morgan Berselius Oh well that's a whole lot of people showing up out of the blue like that. Who's that guy all in red? Some kind of super murder-hobo defending his murder-hobo territory?

Well.

Whatever.

"Yeah that's why I'm asking, dumbass," Morgan growls, the shadows tightening around SWORDFIGHTER'S limbs where they can. "I'm trying to figure out if you idiots are here for a reason, or if you're just up here stirring up a whole bunch of monsters who will probably end up with a MAJOR GRUDGE after you're done mopping up. Because if you tell me you're just here to start shit for giggles' sakes, I'm going to have to sear a lesson directly into your brains for making even more work for me."

"I mean, if you have any, that is," Morgan huffs. "If they didn't all die with that clothy one over there."
Zero      FUTURESWORD meets with NOTSOFUTURESWORD. Unfortunately despite Zero's best efforts to get the upper hand, he can't. So he falls back a bit and let's the muder hobos regroup.

They attempt to justify their reasoning for attacking this town, and they can do is look back to the currently panicking city as if to help reaffirm their choice.

"I don't see any monsters behind me. Monsters tend to prey on innocents, much like what you're doing..."

Zero briefly looks down at his Z-Saber, and back at the group, finally reaching his conclusion.

"Leave. Take and bury your dead. Or join them if you want."
Aoko Aozaki     Aoko sips the last tea out of her cup.

She wipes the cup, cleans it nicely, and then opens her suitcase to put it back in there. When the suitcase snaps shut, she sets it aside in a bush, hops off her seat, and then actually strolls towards danger with her hands in her pockets.

    People are yelling!
    That's never good.

"Geez, geez! Tone it down, will you? Some of us were just passing through and wanted to enjoy the area. Now you've got a body on the floor, scared villagers and angry heroes." Oh, but Zero's voice is familiar. "You're that guy from the future! That's really cool. You grow that hair or did they build it on you?" Legit question, she doesn't know! Maybe future robots grow hair. It's important to know.
Sarracenia      "Monster is a relative term!" Sarracenia says over her speaker. "These-" She blinks in surprise and presses her face to her windshield as Sanary speaks up. "SANARY!!" The canopy of Sarracenia's aircraft pops open and the princess leaps out, her elegant red gown billowing around her as she falls at a comfortable pace. She lands practically on Sanary before wrapping the younger girl up in a tight hug. "I missed you! Where have you been hiding?" she asks, then turns toward the SWORDFIGHTER. "Ahem...as I was saying...Monster is a relative term! These people may look a bit different than humans, but they are none-the-less people. And as both a princess and a member of the Watch, I cannot allow you to kill them without a cause much more worthy than 'they look scary'. Suck it up! Go fight actual monsters that spend their time killing people!"

And to emphasize her words, Sarracenia reaches into a satchel hanging from her shoulder and pulls out...a hammer as tall as she is that must weigh even more than she does. The head is rather plain-looking, just a big sledgehammer really. But, it sparkles with a bit of magical power and some kind of powder coats it. "As the dark one says...you are in quite deep trouble if you have no better reason." she says, giving her hammer a graceful twirl around herself before tapping the ground with it with an ominous thud.
Athela Valemore     Just because it is the beginning of a potentially violent conflict does not mean there isn't time for proper manners. Though Athela does keep it to a brief as she bows towards Sarrachina. "Your Highness. And the Axe Maiden as well," she adds to Sanary. Whom she's about to ask for a better explaination of what's going on when one of the attackers shouts out something that essentially confirms what she had expected upon her rival, and the brief calm she greeted her allies with is quickly back to that stern grimace.

"It is. So they are not human. But being such doth not mean they are to be struck down for no reason otherthan!", she shouts back at the Swordfighter. Then briefly glances over her shoulder to her pokemon steed. "Guard the villiage entrance." With a gruff snort the Gogoat responds, backing up closer to the edge of the town, ready to intercept anyone that tries to get past the amassing defenders.

Then back to the matter at hand. Athela wraps both hands now around the elongated hilt of her weapon, Resolute Blade's edge catching a glint of light briefly as she readjusted her position, at the ready to move. "If ye hath no other reason than your own prejudice, then I highly suggest a swift removely of thyselves from here! As Dame of the Tides and Champion of the Swords of Justice," not that such would mean much to these people, "I shalt not allow such shenanigans of false bias to continue. If ye be fool enough to fight for no reason, then as they say... Bring it!"
If someone looked closely they might see small trickles of moisture swirling about her wrists and ankles as the Tidecaller's aquamancy is also at the ready, but with all the other shouting and proclaiming of intentions going on, it's easy to overlook.
Sanary Rondel     It's quickly becoming obvious to the invading murderhobos that they're not fighting with as much of an advantage as they had earlier, nor do they have the sympathy of the repsonders. They glance at each other, then at the responders, then back at each other again before scrambling into a new formation!

They quickly prostrate themselves, heads on the ground and all. "W... We're very sorry. PLease don't kill us!" They shout in unison, the SWORDFIGHTER still struggling against the tightening shadows instead of trying to chop it off or something. This simply isn't a fight they can win, and displays of aggression might only make things worse for them! Besides, they don't have nearly enough pride to die on this hill today (even if the SWORDFIGHTER really wants to fight Mr. Futuresaber and the ARCHER would want to match up with the leafy goat)! Should they be allowed to go, they'll quickly gather their equipment, stuff the WIZARD into a crate, then be on their way.

Sanary, meanwhile, gets caught in a sudden hug, wincing briefly before chuckling and patting Sarracenia on the back. "Working! Getting back into the whole... Fight business again." She lets out a relieved sigh as the MURDERHOBOS are released and/or obliterated, looking over at Aoko slowly on recognizing her voice from the channels the other day.

Luckily, it does seem to be quieting down all around as the monstrous villagers begin to peek back in. One particularly bearded... Thing that looks to be more parts hair than actual torso hobbles towards the group of heroes, clapping softly while raising a hand towards them. "Ahh... Thank you for coming! That could have gone much worse if you hadn't shown up when you did. Those 'adventurers' always come by looking for the town's treasure.

That last bit draws a raised eyebrow from Sanary, and that draws a laugh from what appears to be the village's elder. "An enchanted axe, if you're curious. The rumors of its power have spread far, but it's good to know we can count on heroes like yourselves." The hairy elder coughs, then waves dismissively when Sanary and one of the villagers approaches. "I'm alright... Now, then!" Sanary follows the villager away as the elder then raises a hand, causing yet more of the monster villagers begin gathering things from their homes: Tables, chairs, questionable looking food complete with purple and blue bits.

It seems as though they've practiced doing this. "Come, sit, relax! The least we can do is reward you for your troubles."
Athela Valemore     Athela keeps a stoic eye on the party until it's clear they are actually leaving the vicinity and it's not some trick to just double around and blindside them, then finally lets out a soft sigh. "Thank Arceus they saw the better," she murmurs as she resheaths her weapon at her waist. The cloak ripples a bit behind her as she turns to the emerging elder, repeating her brief bow as before.

Then frowns a little at the reaccount. "Treasure, and they presume because you are... 'unlike them'," she avoids using 'monster' that could be offensive to these people, "they need no other reason to attack you for it? Hmph. Giving 'adventurers' a bad reputation with that." Having spent her life around 'non-human' creatures with Pokemon she's well at ease with these people once she does allow herself to relax out of potential conflict readiness. "Thank you, elder, for the hospitality."
Zero      "No."

Aoko gets an extremely brief response to her question that doesn't really answer anything.

The...Village elder? comes and explains the situation while offering food and drinks and all the good things. Zero's not much interested in any of that sort of stuff, but he tags along anyway. He remains quiet and avoids sticking anything in his mouth while he just sort of exists.
Aoko Aozaki     With Sanary finally talking, Aoko pipes up, recognizing her voice. "Oh hey! It's Sanary right? Caught you on a job huh? Great, great!"

Oh, too bad about Zero though. Guess future robots don't grow hair? How to the point! Not a very chatty fellow.

The villagers urge them on. Aoko, hands still in her pockets, follows after Sanary, musing out loud: "Probably shouldn't keep a magical artifact of legendary power in a village you can't defend, you know? That's just inviting trouble. Really, you should have someone take that thing off your hands. No, actually, in the first place isn't it odd you guys still have it despite those doofs making you call for help?"

Well, that's Aoko for you, no filters.

She does turn her eyes towards the village idly, looking for something that can't be seen. An axe that powerful ought to leave some kind of imprint or signal, right...? Now where could it be. Reveal yourself, magic of the area!
Sarracenia      As the adventurer party leaves, Sarracenia smirks. "Good choice." she says, then slides her hammer back into her purse. Then...she hugs Sanary again! "It is so good to see you!" she says happily. When the treasure is brought up Sarracenia perks up expectantly, but when it is revealed to be just an axe she pouts a bit. "No pretty jewels or other finery?" she asks, then sighs and shrugs. "Well, heroes don't need rewards anyway!" she says, standing tall and giving her hair a toss. "Your gratitude and recognition is payment enough."

The strange 'food' does give Sarracenia pause, but she takes a seat with a small sigh. She doesn't want to be rude to people she just helped save. "So, you have trouble with these sorts of false heroes often?" she asks the elder, frowning lightly at the situation.
Morgan Berselius Morgan stares blankly as the GENERIC ADVENTURING PARTY stuffs its corpse into a box and proceeds to get right the fuck out.

"Wow," the strange Shadow Guy deadpans. "What a bunch of scavengers, running away the second it looks like they're at a disadvantage. Can't fault their survival instincts, though. Hmph."

Beat.

Villagers begin to gather. Morgan's expression is... About as unpleasant as it's been for the past little while, now. "The red-head is right. If you want to live in peace, then you should probably get rid of that axe thing, before someone with a bit more gall comes to take it. As for food..."

Morgan... shakes his head, "Pass. I've got other stuff I need to take care of." Like making sure those morons don't get themselves killed on the way back home, or something like that. The strange shadow-man dissolves back into the odd liquid-darkness form he had arrived in and immediately takes to the air.

Presumably, following after those Adventurers. For now.
Sanary Rondel      "That is correct. It's unfortunate, but everything will be fine in due time." The elder strokes his beardface while responding to Athela, taking a seat himself after not too long. "They'll get used to us, we will earn enough ourselves to hire or train our own defense force, and... We will see where things go from there."

Speaking of things going, Sanary's still on the move! She nearly jumps out of her skin when she notices Aoko following her, ducking behind a corner before grinning at the mage. "Sanary, yeah. Aoko, was it? Heh... Little loud there, don'tcha think? ... But you're not wrong. It'd be for their own good, especially if they can't even use the thing. Might as well make sure nobody else can come after 'em for it, right?" Aoko would sense that there's a rather large concentration of magic towards the center of town, conveniently located in the largest building.

Speaking of using things, the elder laughs lightly when Sarracenia asks of treasure and finery, eating what looks like a fried hand before speaking up again. "We do have some smaller treasures, actually. Necklaces, staves, and... All sorts of things we've gathered of the years. " Where those things were gathered is not a question he answers, instead just burping lightly. "Perhaps it would be easier to get rid of them, but it'd be a shame to just throw such things away. We'll find a use for them yet."

Once everyone's had their fill (or not), the elder rises again and begins to hobble along towards the largest building in the center of town. "All of our treasures are in the town center. Come, come, this way..."
Aoko Aozaki     A pile of treasures!

    It's not suspicious at all.

Aoko laughs at Sanary, but doesn't temper her tone in the slightest. "Adventurers never bother asking where the monsters got their loot from. On the other hand, sometimes a bit of mystery can spice things up! And a nice peaceful village that isn't what it seems, that's even better!" Is this really mysterious, though? It has trap written all over it.

Maybe the fun is in springing the trap.
    And seeing what it is.

"Well, let's see, let's see!" she exclaims.

There's the town center. There's all the delicious magic shining like a big neon come in sign. Now that she's this close, she should be able to tell what all the magic is about. Is that really just an axe and a pile of random magical jewelry and swords?
Athela Valemore     Athela is polite to at least try the -ahem- food, and eat a moderate share despite all. Honestly, she's seen her uncle prepare much stranger things in an effor to utilize -everything-.
Though part of it is also slipped under hre cloak, where it is eagerly gulped down by the Goomy hiding away there to stay in the cool shadows. Being a slug he's not at all picky about food beyond 'food'. Gogoat meanwhile has settled on just grazing a bit outside of town. Don't think too hard about a Grass type eating grass and you'll be fine.

"Have you considered selling some of the lesser treasures to help pay for bettering your defenses?" Athela offers as she rises to follow after the Elder Of Hairiness. "Trade could help enamore you to other local settlements and lessen the likeliness of these... intrusions." Or so she would hope. Those adventurers didn't seem to be too unreasonable, just a bit on the side of misguided due to cultural differations.
Sarracenia      Sarracenia can't quite bring herself to actually try any of the food. but she does listen as the elder explains a bit more. When he (it?) offers to show them the gathered wealth, Sarracenia follows after. "Well, you could always use your gathered treasures to finance the building of defenses or hiring of city guards. The kingdom of Sundew just happens to sell such things, and we would be quite willing to do both. Our piranha plant soldiers should fit in quite well in this area." she says as they walk.

Sanary ran off before Sarra could properly apply another hug and without responding, but Sarracenia understands. Sanary likes weapons, after all. But, it looks like they are headed to the same place anyway. "A few Bullet Bill launchers such as the one on my Dyna or even a Bonzai Bill launcher would be quite effective deterrents for such wandering adventurers." the princess continues, motioning toward the wooden VTOL she arrived in...which is still hovering just where she left it, canopy still open.
Sanary Rondel      "Right? I mean... It could just be that simple, but people smarter than me usually figure out that it ain't by the time the traps start going." Sanary laughs lightly before quieting down again, trying not to draw too much attention to herself and Aoko on their way into the town center. Treasure-wise, it really is that simple! There's an axe glowing ominously on a shelf near the back wall in the center (which Sanary goes right for), multiple other shelves lined with assorted trinkets of dubious utility and magic power, and a whole lot of stuff that would normally be found in a city hall: Ledgers, birth records, spooky basement hatch.

Luckily enough, there's no traps here.

"We have! We've even attempted a few sales, although... Well." The elder gestures in the direction the adventures had fled to with Morgan trailing them. "It usually ends up something like that, except not normally skipping right to the violence part." He shakes his head and cracks open the door to the town center. "But with people like yourselves here, perhaps... If you'd be willing to trade some of those deterrents or your training for our artifacts, perhaps we could arrange..." The elder trails off, pausing to stare as Sanary nonchalantly walks towards the back door with the ominous glowing axe strapped to her back. He clears his throat, she turns around, he cracks his walking stick in his grip, she draws the axe.
Aoko Aozaki     How is this NOT a trap?
Aoko considers the situation would be greatly improved by the addition of traps. Unless the trap is that it's a cursed weapon, then that sure worked like a charm.

"Really, you're doing them a favor," Aoko says, because the fact of the matter is that these people shouldn't sit on a pile of treasure that lures adventurers in a five miles radius. Although...

Aoko looks at the various baubles scattered in the room, and yanks a shiny necklace that she determines to be Necklace of Keeping Your Food From Getting Cold. Score! That's the real prize here, screw that axe.

And then the elder comes in, company and all. Aoko looks at Sanary, grinning. "I think that's the part where we either run or make a mess."
Sarracenia      "Certainly~" Sarracenia says cheerfully as the elder shows interest in the things she has offered. "Sending a few of our officers to help train a militia and bring by samples of our..."

Sarracenia blinks upon seeing Sanary with the axe already on her back, then again as she draws it on the elder. "Sanary! We just helped these people and now you are taking the very thing that they were trying to protect?! I don't believe I heard him say the axe was the prize for protecting them! I'm sure if you just put it back we can avoid any unpleasantness!"

The princess knows it has been a while since they actually talked, but was Sanary always this sneaky? A bit bloodthirsty perhaps but...either way, Sarracenia steps forward, hand idling on top of her purse, ready to pull something out if the need arises. But, her eyes keep getting drawn to the various shiny baubles about the room, and when Aoko raises that Necklace of Food Warming Sarracenia's eyes widen before she takes a look around for real, actually wandering away from the group to see about other shiny objects.
Athela Valemore     "Perhaps some carpenters to help with your structures and construct some walls around the villiage." Athela gestures idly in the direction her mount ambled off to graze. "At least from my world people are not shy about working with non-humans, as you can se--"

The peaceful conversation is broken as sharply as the wooden stick. She turns to look at what caused the interruption, only to let out a sigh and shake her head as she reachs for her weapon once more. "You just could not let this be easy, could you..."
Zero      "Personally, I just suggest throwing these sort of things out whenever you find them. The potential income you'll lose isn't worth constant attacks by a bunch of rowdy kids."

Zero rubs his nose absentmindedly as he offers some SAGELY advice. There's also the fact that they haven't been given any explanations as to HOW they've gotten all these magical baubles. Do magic items just grow out of the ground? Is that a thing? He's not sure, and ultimately he doesn't care.
Sanary Rondel      Somehow, it's not a trap! Not all of it, anyway. Most of the trinkets are largely utilitarian or decorative, like the NKYFFGC Aoko just picked up or the Gently Gleaming Ring That Isn't Blindingly Shiny not far from where Sarracenia's looking, but there's probably something more to that axe if it's glowing the way it is.

The risk clearly seems to be worth it for Sanary, though, as she keeps her hold on the weapon while brushing her free hand over her coat lightly. "That's why I'm taking this! They're just gonna be targets with it around anyway, so why not make good use of it instead of throwin' it out or letting it out?"

Glancing at the axe, Sanary gives it a few practice swings before advancing on the group, a more confident grin crossing her face. "So if you're not gonna get out of the way... I'll just have to force you out of the way!" She teeters forward as if she's about to fall flat on her face, then launches herself forward at the last moment with a mighty shoulder ram aimed to barrel right through Sarracenia and Athela at the same time.

The elder, meanwhile, is getting the hell out of that town center. He's old, not dumb!
Aoko Aozaki     Really, Aoko agrees with Zero.

But with Sanary just going straight for the fight, it seems the red-head gets excited too. "Aww man! It's been a while since I've actually hit something, I could use the stretch. Hey, mister robot from the future, want to tussle a bit? You know, not to the death or anything. If you win I'll... I dunno, I'll make it worth your while though! Like a favor chip you can cash in whenever you need it. So come on!"

The air around Aoko suddenly ionizes itself.

    "Barrels, set!"

Two gleaming blue projectiles of light appear out of thin air over her shoulders, and suddenly launch for Zero's feet! A normal person would wait for an answer before engaging.

That sure would be the polite thing to do.
Sarracenia      The declaration from Sanary is enough to bring Sarracenia's focus back, and she deftly leaps to the side to avoid Sanary's attack. "Did you try ASKING THEM at least?!" she responds as in one fluid motion she pulls her hammer from her purse once more (how does that even fit in there?) and with a twirling backhand swing brings the fearsome DK Hammer around, aiming for Sanary's middle. "They might have just let you have it, you know!"

Whether she strikes Sanary or not, there is a definite explosion accompanied by a shockwave when that hammer hits.
Athela Valemore While there is some roundabout logic to what Sanary says, Athela cannot in good conscience simply allow her to walk out with the magic axe these monster-people were protecting. The young knight stands her ground, both literally and morally as Sanary rushes them, digging her heels in and gritting herself to endure this.

The shoulder slams into her midsection and she wheezes a bit as the impact pushes her back a bit before she regains her footing, but she toughs through it. "You should of realized from the start we would not simply let you walk out with it," she retorts, before pushing back to disengage. One hand goes to grab and draw her weapon, while the other is thrust out, sending a short but potent blast of water at Sanary to keep her at bay.
Zero      "Wait hold o-"

Zero really doesn't get to say anything as Aoko has already launched her attack, causing the red reploid to jump back in response. Avoiding the direct attack is always the easy part though, dealing with the splash damage from the following explosion not so much.

Small strips of paint and plating are removed from their lower legs, revealing bare metal and hyper advanced wiring.

"All right. Fine. I didn't have a particular side I was interested in joining, so fighting you will have to do."

Zero casually draws his saber's hilt as he says this, the green blade flashing to life as he swings the weapon through the air with enough force to create a green shockwave.
Sanary Rondel      In retrospect... Why /didn't/ she think of that? "W... Well, it's too late to do that now, Sarra!" Sanary grunts as she impacts against Athela, digging her shoulder in before hopping back to figure out her next plan of attack against the pair. She leaves Aoko to fight with Zero, her attention focused on the two before her even though the idea of watching SUPERMAGIC versus CYBERSCIENCE would otherwise be incredibly appealing.

Priorities, though. She brings her fancy new axe up to block against that hammer blow, feeling some of her breath leave her as she's knocked back and sent skidding a bit. The blast of water strikes home as well, and she brings her arm up to block against the burst and buy a bit of time to catch her breath.

"Tch... Yeah, I figured. If there's no fight, though, then it's probably not worth it in the first place!" Smirking a little more widely, Sanary drags the axe along the ground to grind it up a bit, then swings upwards to throw chunks of the flooring at Sarracenia and Athela before dashing in with a more rapid flurry of axe chops towards the former!

The elder, meanwhile, seems to be watching this from further away as he pokes his head in. "Not anymore, we wouldn't!" He calls out in response to Sarracenia, then ducks back and away just in case anything comes flying towards him.
Aoko Aozaki     "That's the spirit! Come on, come on!"

There comes the laser word! Oh that's so cool! Aoko squees in glee, though momentarily puts a serious face on to leap back, the shockwave catching one of her legs and hacking her jeans up, bruising the skin underneath. When she lands, she makes sure not to land on that leg first.

"That's so cool! Hang on, hang on, let me try too!"

Aoko clenches her fists, and bright blue blades form from them, fizzling from the incredibly inefficient spell used to form them. She just laughs.

"Yeah, now we're talking! Bring it on!"

She surges towards Zero - there's a sudden, brief sound coming from her legs, like a jet engine going full-bore as blue flames gush out of her feet and rocket her straight at the robot, laser sword swinging awkwardly.

Aoko is, very obviously to Zero, not a swordsman.
She's clearly just having fun, even if it's a bad idea.
Sarracenia      Battered with debris, Sarracenia doesn't put up much of a defense at all. "Hey! You got me all dirt-eeeeeee!" The last part of her last word is more of a yelp as she goes flying through the air, hit solidly by that axe and sent bouncing away. She impacts a wall and bounces back, but rather than just continuing to bounce she twirls and lands on her feet, using the momentum from Sanary's strike to try and strengthen her own.

"Well, I haven't been in a good fight in at least a week, so thanks for that!" she says with a grin as she dashes back in with her hammer before leaping and somersaulting, trying to bring it down to play Whack-a-Sanary! "Don't worry, I still love you!"
Athela Valemore Athela gets her weapon drawn, just in time to use it more as a means of defense as her hightened awareness alerts her to the indirect method of Sanary's attack. Resolute Blade gleams as she swipes it repeatedly to knock chunks of debris away, or outright shatter them into smaller bits in an attempt to not cause additional undue damage to the villiage around them. A few smaller bits clatter past and bounce of her shoulders and sides, but the knight is too determined in setting out her course of action to be deterred by it.

Especially when Sanary decides to turn and focus the brunt of her attack on Sarrachina, and her drive to concern more over others than herself kicks into full gear. Water literally surges around her, the pressure acting like a booster in a way to send her rushing towards Sanary, while holding her weapon out like a lance to lead the charge. "Enough of this!"
Zero      Sadly for Aoko, it seems Zero doesn't know how to have fun. He's quick to bring his blade up to his chest, her laser sword just barely managing to graze up against the robot's shoulder as he pushes her away with his weight.

"Good."

He follows up with the push by bringing his Z-Saber overhead, the blade suddenly becoming less focused as it starts gathering energy.

"But not good enough."

Zero double-hands the hilt before crashing the blade down on Aoko with a combination of both force and precision.

If it wasn't clear already, Zero REALLY ISN'T A FUN GUY!
Sanary Rondel      "That's more like it... No such thing as fighting clean in a... Uh. Fight!" Sanary returns Sarracenia's grin with one of her own, feeling onyl slightly bad about striking her with that shiny new axe of... Weird glowing. Just what kind of enchantment does this thing have, anyway?

Something to look into after getting it out of this place. The healer's feeling somewhat winded as the fight carries on, and she takes a moment to channel some healing magic into herself to get the wind back under her feet. She just so happens to pick a bad moment for that, however, grunting painfully as Sarracenia's hammer slams her one way and Athela's water-boosted charge stabs right into her side.

Did she really even get anywhere with that healing magic, considering what just happened? Maybe not, but it was a calculated risk. With Athela so close this time, she swings her elbow at the knight before bringing her axe down at her, trying to cleave it right into her. Sarracenia, meanwhile, can see Sanary just staring at her oddly for a moment before the axe-wielder's eye glows red and launches an explosive laser towards her!
Aoko Aozaki     Not fun is very relative!

Aoko, for the record, is enjoying herself regardless. Even as the blade crashes down and breaks through her attempt to defend herself with her own blades, and cuts a nasty gash between her chest and shoulder. To her credit, she's... tough, and Zero's probably minding his aim so he doesn't brutally murder someone by accident. But the red staining her shirt makes the situation rather clear as she backs away, laughing.

"Awesome, awesome! You really don't mess around huh? Geez, if I don't get serious you're going to bury me like I'm nothing."

Aoko's just a human, after all. Or that's what she'd claim anyway. Either way, matching Zero blow for blow in melee simply isn't happening, at least not with swords she can only manage to swing relatively well and not expertly in the slightest.

"Alright, let's try something else then! Get to me if you can!" Aoko slams her foot onto the ground. Her entire body gives off that loud, roaring sound as her Magic Circuits begin spinning so quickly they may as well be jet engines.

Several dozen magical circles appear in the air in flowery, spread out formations. Bright blue beams of light start bouncing between them, creating a maze of blue beams that's closing in on Zero.

    And probably wrecking the room.
    Definitely wrecking the room.
Athela Valemore     She may not be the strongest or most ferocious of fighters, but there's something to be said about how Athela seems to react to the shifts of combat with almost instictual precision. Her Patron is one of combat and part Fighting type after all. Fighting the good fight is what the Swords of Justice are all about... even if Keldeo is more the scrappy upstart of the bunch than a tried and trued echilon of battle. The elbow thuds into Athela's gut hard even with her basic armor, but it doesn't stop her from bring her own weapon up.

The sound is audible enough to ring across the villa as Resolute Blade intercepts, Athela angling low to get behind the head of the axe and catch the prongs against the actual shaft. A grunt of strain follows, but determined spirit holds the powerful axe at bay at the cost of mainly the strain in her arms to do so. One would expect it would be hard to attack back in this position, and that analysis wouldn't be so far off.

Athela is rarely in a fight alone though, and I'm not talking about the Hammertime Princess at the moment. The pink and purple blob pokes out of the hood of Athela's cloak, and the Goomy's usual timidness is cast asside at seeing his trainer in danger. The slug-like dragon squirms onto her shoulder, swells up and out a bit, then *BLORT* spews a huge glob of poisonus slime at Sanary!
Sarracenia      Eyebeams?! Oh right, that is a thing Sanary can do. Sarracenia gets blasted back, and gain goes bouncing across the floor before catching herself and hopping to her feet. She is looking much more winded than Sanary, and decides that perhaps rushing back in isn't the best option. Instead, she reaches into her purse and pulls out...a Bob-omb! "Say hello to my little friends!" she says before throwing it at Sanary! Followed by another!

Hopefully she has good aim, because those cute little bombs pack quite a punch! A pair of explosions rock the house and Sarracenia laughs a bit maniacally.
Sanary Rondel      It's not hard for Sanary to figure from Athela's techniques and the way she carries herself that the knight is probably much more skilled than she is herself. With the right physical training...

... Wait. There's a time and place for everything! Sanary isn't here to scout for students. She's here to take a possibly cursed axe back home! She's about ready to start putting even more force down against Athela when Goomy emerges in the nick of time, spraying the healer with that glob of slime right in the face!

What follows is a string of curses that could very well offend Sarracenia and any young, innocent minds. Backing off, she aims a mighty kick at Athela to try and buy herself some time to heal and shake off the poisonous gunk. It's hard to really do that effectively knowing that either of them could come in and send her flying or run her through, though, so she simply braces herself for impact while trying to tune out the noises around her!
_________________________________________

The elder can't quite tune things out, of course, especially with LASERS and EXPLOSIONS rocking the town center. He's watching from much further away than before, though, having long abandoned the doorway once the door itself had fallen off.
_________________________________________

That impact doesn't come from a hammer as expected, but from.. Heat? Cackling? A dull thunk? By the time Sanary finishes wiping her eye off and forcing sweet, sweet healing magic into her head, she's in no position to avoid the explosives. She simply grins and bears it as the burns to her face compound with the burns to her arms and legs, her coat flapping dramatically behind her while it burns slowly on her back. "You're really going all out, ain't ya? Heh... I wouldn't have it any other way!" Grabbing a nearby chair, she flings it at Sarracenia one-handed before rushing in once more, aiming a sharp blow with the back of her axe at the princess to try and catch her off guard!
Zero      Aoko's just human, he really shouldn't be trying this hard. Wait no, humans don't shoot beams and brush off attacks with a laugh. Not sane ones at least.

"Glad you're enjoying it. I don't enjoy fighting civilians though, so I'll make you a deal."

Zero's grip on his weapon tightens.

"If I don't down you in this next hit, it's your win."

The proposal doesn't really much make much sense for a multitude of reasons probably, but the android doesn't give the girl much of a chance to respond.

They begin simply powering through Aoko's rather indiscriminate attack, armor plating vaporizing or being shot off with each hit. It doesn't really stop them though, for they're a man on a mission. A mission to give it their all.

     "Tenshouzan!"

Closing in next to the magus, Zero delivers a full powered flaming sword uppercut, his body color briefly changing to an orangish color as he does so.
Athela Valemore     The acidic assault helps to break up their embrace of weapons, but it's not enough to give Athela enough room to avoid the kick entirely. And despite Sanary's awkward position dealing with the slime on her face the boot is still enough to knock her backwards into the wall of one of the huts, probably causing a bit of damage to the structure as well. "Sorry!" she snaps to whoever may be inside and startled by the impact. She gets to her feet with a huff, grabbing her clock and giving it a dramatic toss to reposition it behind her again. "Thank you, Slurry."
Both hands retighten their grip on her ancient weapon, followed by dust being kicked up in her wake as she springs back into the battle. She takes a few quick strides to reclose the distance, followed by a powerful leap into the air. As she swings up her weapon aqua colors swirl around Resolute Blade being charged with her aquakinetic powers and sheathing it in elemental energy. But how much can water really do?

Try the force of a waterfall, hammering down on the rocks and shore below it. Because with the descent of her leap and the downward swing of the elementally charged weapon that is the kind of force Athela is bringing to bear in a focused diving strike.
Aoko Aozaki     "I'm a lot of things, but I'm pretty sure civilian isn't one of them!" Aoko says. That's probably right, as Zero observed.

Well, whatever she is, resistance to flaming sword uppercuts apparently isn't part of the package.

Although she tries to mitigate the blow with a barrage of blue light, which could only be called a shield in the sense it's between Zero and Aoko, because in every other way those are just straight up vertical lasers shooting out of the floor, it only does so much to slow the robot down.

And praise his skill for not cutting a limb off and instead merely ruining Aoko's shirt and sending her crashing into the wall behind her, laughing her ass off.

It's a bit painful to get back up, but it doesn't seem to sour her mood at all. "Oh man, I yield, I yield. You're tough, mister hero from the future! So I guess I owe you one now! You better save that coupon, it's worth a ton!" She doesn't actually have coupons to hand out, but she considers it now.

"Geez, I feel bad for whoever they built you to kick the ass of."
Sarracenia      Smashed with a chair and already tired and bruised, Sarracenia is mostly defenseless against that incoming hilt strike. She lets out a breathless gasp as she is hit, then doubles over trying to catch her breath. Now all dusty and grimy, with her dress torn in several places from Sanary's attacks, and even a bit of red trailing down her face from the chair and her side from the axe hit, it is pretty obvious the princess can't go much longer without taking serious injuries. "When...did you get so strong?" she asks, then giggles. "I knew I liked you for a reason."

The princess gasps for breath a few more times...then rolls away and hops back to her feet. "Alright! You aren't holding back! Neither will I!" She reaches into her purse and pulls out a large Bullet Bill! The giant bullet with a shark-like face gets tossed up into the air as Sarracenia twirls gracefully. "Better get out of the way, Pokemon Knight!" Sarracenia says, for when it comes back down she swings her hammer and the Bullet Bill gets fired as if from a gun right at Sanary! It impacts and explodes, and just as the shockwave is passing Sarracenia comes spiraling through the smoke with her hammer, unleashing another hit and another explosion!
Zero      Zero lands after connecting his blow, his armor's color returning to it's signature red color. There's a bit of regret gnawing at the back of his brain for pulling out almost all the stops just now, but given that she's still in one piece, he really shouldn't be. Did humans always have the capacity to be this tough? If that's the case maybe Ciel should run a few laps and maybe he wouldn't have to always go it alone.

He audibly chuckles at his train of thought, returning his attention back to Aoko.

"If I was made to kick any one's ass, they're probably long dead. Anyway, you're hurt. I'm carrying you back."

Zero extends a damaged hand outwards, waiting for the girl to take it.

Or, probably more likely, reject it and walk off herself.
Aoko Aozaki     "Oh? Well, I don't have anywhere to call home right now, you might call me a good-for-nothing wanderer!" Aoko laughs, though she more than accepts Zero's hand.

"But if you're offering, I'm sure we can find some nice inn somewhere to sit down and... do you eat? Do robots eat? We could have lunch, talk awesome future stuff you probably deal with!" The future tends to be pretty awesome, it's a good subject.

"Oh right, go back to the entrance of the village, I left my briefcase in a bush. Can't leave without it!"
Sanary Rondel      "Not long ago... I've been practicing! Training... Learning from the be... Really good fighters!" Sanary calls out to Sarracenia, rolling her shoulder while preparing herself for Athela's follow up. "Aw... Love ya, too, Sarra. After all this..." An attack from above this time! Although Sanary can see it coming, defending against it is another matter entirely. Axe users generally aren't known for their finesse with what's traditionally used as a hacking weapon, and this one is usually no different. Watching Athela's weirdly graceful and artful moves with water and blade, however, has started giving hte healer some ideas for her own style!

Like not just trying to eat every hit head on. She brings her axe up to meet the knight's, clashing against it with the water battering down against her from around the physical form of their weapons. Even though it may not have the same destructive force at a single moment as other elements, the consistent pressure and wearing down what's in front of it is what's getting to the healer!

"Remind me not to underestimate water mages...!" Her grin growing broader, Sanary pushes up once before gripping the weapon in both hands and swinging it hard at Athela, trying to knock her as far back as she can in one brutal swing to give herself some breathing room from Sarracenia's massive attack. "Heh.. I wouldn't expect anything less!" Holding firm, the healer surrounds herself with healing magic to prepare herself for the incoming attack, and it's a well-timed preparation as that Bullet Bill slams into her far earlier than she could have even anticipated, the explosion following sending her hurtling right into a wall! Coughing and hacking painfully, there's an odd sort of laugh that escapes the healer even as pain shoots right through her.

Also blood. She's coughing out quite a lot of blood at that. "KEh... I knew... You were strong, too, but this? You've gotten strong, too!" Staggering to her feet, Sanary starts to tip forward again not unlike she had with every other shoulder charge before lunging towards Sarracenia again as if going for another shoulder charge as expected!

... And then she jerks up at the last moment, aiming for her face to grab and slam her down at the last moment. SHe's learned how to feint, it seems!
Zero      Zero's eyes roll as Aoko bombards her with questions.

"Yes. Yes. If you want to talk about depressing things, sure."

He answers her as robotically and with as few words as possible.

"Anyway, I'll figure out something. Don't worry."

Aoko grabs his hand, and he almost instantly makes his way out with her. Screw the magical relics, and screw the axe. If the last and current situation is anything to go by, they're better without it.
Athela Valemore     'Mage' isn't quite the right word, but right in middle of a very intense battle isn't really a time to nitpick over terminology technicalities.

Athela feels the weapons clash together as Sanary moves to intercept the attack, and shifts her own weight so she falls back and away from her own attack. The effort... doesn't quite work as well as intended as Sanary heaves around into a powerful swing, and even as she tries to jump back from the strike it's not fast enough. The axe catchs her and whatever enchantment it has on it must be a heck of one because that hit is enough to smash into her armor and send the young woman crashing backwards on her back. She lets out a groan, bell briefly rung.

And that gap of time is long enough for Sanary to turn her attention fully on Sarrachina to deal with the Princess in a rather rough fashion. Not a good thing to catch sight of as you're getting back on your feet.

"Elder, need a healer of some kind!" As usual her first thought is for the Sundew princess, despite being beat to hell and back herself. But then her focus is back on Sanary, though now it's not really about the axe as she grabs her weapon and gets up. It's about getting her away from the Princess, who cares about the stupid magic weapon at this point. Armorer boots hit the ground to kick her into a run, though this time with no fancy leaps. This time, as she grips her 'sword on a stick' with both hands and winds back Resolute Blade starts to glow almost as if drawing from her own determination. Unlike some heroes there's no scathing insults or quippy remarks. Just pushing herself as hard as she can to charge Sanary and swing the relic blade at her with all the force her special technique can, and a bellowing "SACRED SWORD!"
Sarracenia      Sarracenia grins as Sanary is smashed into a wall. "I have always been strong. You just didn't get to see it before." she says. She braces for the incoming charge, but...completely falls for that feint. SMASH! There is barely a grunt as Sarracenia gets faceplanted into the floor. The exhausted princess just lies there, and her hammer is actually freed from her grasp. A muffled 'nnnnng...' is all that is heard from her.

Looks like stopping Sanary is left to Athela now! Sarra would cheer but...you know...faceplanted.
Sanary Rondel      Zero and Aoko are allowed to leave by the elder and the other villagers that have gathered around to watch the fighting on the inside. They're given a wide berth, too, since the villagers aren't exactly keen on getting involved themselves. A few of the rowdier-looking skeletons do advance, but the elder stops them even after Athela requests a healer. Perhaps afterwards, but right now, things are already a bit of a mess inside. Between all the fire, water, lasers, magic, and explosions? It's a wonder the whole building hasn't come down yet!

"There. That's one. Aah... She'll be fine." Sanary keeps her hand over Sarracenia's face for a moment as she leaves a green glowing cloud over the princess, working slowly to take some of the edge off even if it's not potent nor focused enough to fix her up outright.

Standing back up, Sanary shakes the axe in her hand a few times as she faces Athela and steadies herself on the ground. "Okay... Let's finish this, knight!" There's a somewhat respectful tone in her voice as she settles into firmer stance, gauging her own options in response to that mighty charge. She's not really coming up with anything clever, though, and instead opts for what she knows: Use the axe, cover herself in healing magic, and try to swing back as hard as she can take it.

Good enough. Rushing forward with Athela, the stolen axe grinds against the ground briefly as its shadowy glow intensifies, and she brings it up at the last moment to impact against Athela's sacred blade. The axe creaks with the effort, Sanary's arms strain and bleed as they're pushed to their limits!

And then they're close. Sanary swings herself around the axe and sword in the other direction to try and slip around it, feeling the blade stabbing right through her side in the attempt. She clenches her teeth to channel that burst of pain into a more primal yell, then goes for the most eloquent and devestating of attacks:

A headbutt. A lot of headbutts. Eloquence and technique be damned, she's putting it all on the line by just going for a contest of hard heads!
Athela Valemore     Once again the two weapons collide in calamitous resound. The strain is intense, the axe held back just by sheer determination and Resolute Blade's divine durability. For a moment it's easy to see why adventurers would be willing to stomp over a villiage of monsterfolk otherwise not hurting anything to try and get it. But that doesn't mean she's just going to give up and let the woman have it!
Unfortunately, while courage and determination don't waver, there is only so much strain the body can take, the knight's body shaking with the force put into keeping the axe from doing it's worst.... And then Sanary abruptly shifts to yank both their weapons aside. Had she not been struggling Athela might of caught what was coming next but exhaustion was starting to take it's toll and even her hightened reflexes can't react in quite the instance they would normally.

*Whack* She recoils from the headbutt, the force she was putting against the other weapon slipping. Yet she tries to dig in, tries to push forward..
*Whack*
*Whack**WHAM*

To her credit it's not until the fourth headbutt that she finally falters, the concussive blow causing her to lose clarity for the moment and topple backwards under the force.

Correct that last comment, they're both going to need that healer. Or so she'd say if she wasn't dazed beyond forming anything coherent at the moment.
Sanary Rondel      And so, the knight falls. The healer lets out a whooping cheer, then follows her seconds later.

Headbutts are bad. Don't try this at home.

Rolling onto her back, Sanary sounds somewhat giddy as she stares at the ceiling. It's likely the concussion's fault, but she can't even feel mad about all the horrible stabbing and bruising pain she's suffered between Athela and Sarracenia beating the crap out of her. "That was... That was good! We really need to do that ag... Again sometime. You, me, the you over.. There." She laughs, then groans, then curls up a bit while trying to nurse that pounding headache and get some healing magic flowing around for the three of them still in that room.

She's still intending to leave with that axe, of course. She's just not going to do it without making sure Sarracenia and Athela don't have brain damage or something. As she does that, there's the clattering noise of bones hitting the floor start filtering in.

The clacking is soon followed by an incomprehensible shout from Sanary. The elder leans in, gestures at the skeletons to come back outside, and they quickly step back OUT of the demolished display room.

One thing's for sure: The villagers are going to have to think wisely about what sorts of artifacts to loot next time.
Athela Valemore     Even with the bit of healing it takes several minutes for Athela to regain her senses from the bashing of heads. She grumbles a bit as she puts one hand to her head, moreso to straighten out her headgear than anything else. Gropes a few times with the other hand to find Resolute Blade and sighing a bit as the familiar hilt clutchs in her hand. Not that it would be more than a fancy weird looking sword in anyone else's hands, but still. With that in hand she slowly pulls herself to her feet... and immeadiately moves to get Sarracenia rather than worry about herself. "Com'n Princess, let's get you somewhere safer to heal up."
Sarracenia      With the bit of healing that Sanary provided Sarracenia is able to get back to her feet and pick her hammer up again. She huffs in annoyance as Sanary runs off with the axe. "I guess sometimes the badguy wins." she says, then nods to Athela. "The Dyna is nearby. I can give you a ride if you'd like." she says as she slides that gigantic hammer into her small purse.
