Bahamut      It is late in the day in Bevelle. The sun is heading toward the horizon and the sky has taken on an orange hue. Silhouettes of airships dot the sky above the city, many people are heading home, but tourist-focused businesses are still open and serving.

Many large platforms serve as landing pads for ships of various kinds, and there doesn't seem to be any sort of air traffic control. It probably isn't needed, since only a few ships are landing or leaving at any given time. The city seems built around a huge pyramid-like structure in the middle of the city, with tiers and roads leading outward from it. High walls form the lowest tier, keeping the coastal city safe from large waves. And atop those walls are well armed city guards, ready to respond at a moment's notice to any threat.
Samus Aran There's something new - a vessel never before seen in Spira. Something coming down from above that loks like some kind of strange flat helmet. It hovers in the air above this metropolis, but after an attempt at communication with... anyone... that seems to be not heard, finds a landing pad a bit of a distance from the city. It lands and hovers ten feet off the ground, just waiting there for a while. It doesn't seem to be a threat but it is certainly weird.
Bahamut      Landing prompts a trio of port guards to approach the ship. They look pretty relaxed, the front one even carrying a sphere that looks much like swirling water. He approaches the front of the ship and raises a hand, then makes a few motions that must be intended as a sign to exit the vehicle. All three are well armored and carry large blade weapons, but they are all locked securely to the trios' backs. Their armor is steel with gold accents, and they wear badges depicting what looks like a dragon's head with glowing blue runic writing below it.

If and when the door opens the lead guard boredly says, "Please state your name and business here in Bevelle."
Samus Aran Something unlatches, and a platform descends from the middle of the vessel, carrying with it a figure in completely garbed in power armor from head to toe, revealing nothing of the person who's inside it. With a voice that sounds vaguely but indistintly masculine (compliments of vocal synthesis), she states, "My name is Samus Aran, bounty hunters, affiliated with the Paladins. I have heard of a problem with... I think the word was fiends though that doesn't seem very specific. Was hoping to perhaps take care of some 'fiends' for the right price." She then frowns, the figure's head focusing on that emblem. "That emblem you wear... what is it supposed to stand for?" The voice sounds suddenly much less pleasant and suspicious.
Bahamut      The guards listen, then look down at their badges. "They represent the n-"

Before they can finish, there is a booming roar from somewhere not too far away, and rising from the water is a large, silvery dragon with colorful wings, a long tail...and talons so big and sharp they are visible even from what must be hundreds of feet away. It rises above the water steadily, then comes to a hover as a golden gyro on its back starts to spin. It sparks with white lightning and steadily glows more and more brightly, then that energy starts arcing around to its mouth. It builds steadily into a huge orb of swirling grey and white and blue before a beam as thick as the beast itself fires downward into the water.

The guards have turned to watch, but for some reason haven't yet drawn their weapons. The beam of blue-white hammers into the water for a few long seconds, then the beast banks away before a huge explosion of water and energy erupts upward. It roars again before flying toward the town!
Samus Aran Samus Aran immediately turns to face this seeming threat, arm-cannon raised and primed, and humming. Golden energy is slowly forming at the aperture of the cannon and even these guards could tell that that's some kind of weapon. "What _is_ that thing?" she growls as she gets ready to attack if necessary... then the being just.... attacks the water it came from then flies towards the town and toward where she is... then glances at the guards. "Ummmm... this... creature... is flying towards us... and... you aren't... even caring?" She seems puzzled.
Bahamut      In fact, rather than drawing their weapons in preparation for the creature, the guards have drawn on Samus instead. "Lower your weapon, visitor!" the lead guard commands. "We won't ask you twice!" The two guards in back have their smaller weapons brandished while energy is building in their free hands, one obviously fire energy and the other ice energy.

The dragon, who had been headed merely in their general direction, is now definitely headed toward Samus and the dock. It may have been attracted by her weapon, or perhaps her unusual ship, but whatever the reason...the dangerous creature is bearing down on her and the guards. And they still don't seem worried. Nor does anyone else on the docks, though some of the citizens nearby are heading away from Samus and the guards.
Samus Aran Samus Aran just frowns as the charged energy dissipates as she lowers her arm-cannon. "Fine. But what the hell is going on? From what I undrestand, creatures that look like that are not... to be welcomed with oepn arms..." She just blinks. "Perhaps I should just go. I can find a bounty somewhere else....?" She sounds very puzzled as she watches Bahamut approach.
Bahamut      The guards lower their weapons as well and their spells dissapate as Samus stands down. The lead guard hmphs. "I guess you're brand new to Spira." he says. The guards actually turn and salute as Bahamut flies past, and the beast banks around before landing on the platform on all fours, causing a small shockwave. He lets out a deep rumble as he slowly stands. His wings spread and his arms cross over his chest, presenting a regal and powerful figure.

"Is there trouble?" the dragon asks the guards. They shake their heads. "No, Lord Bahamut. This visitor is simply unfamiliar with our world. I don't think he meant any harm. He actually said he's here to try and become a guardian."

The dragon stands some 15 feet in height, and up close is much more of a gunmetal blue with purple, gold, and red plumage and gold down the middle of his torso. He steps toward Samus, his intelligent, intense blue eyes focused on her. "What is your name, would-be guardian?" he rumbles in a deep, strong voice.
Samus Aran Samus Aran blinks. "A guardian? No, I just came to hunt some of what is called 'fiends'. I'm a bounty hunter. I am Samus Aran. And forgive my... aggression. I have a long painful history with an entity that looks similar to you." She sighs softly. "Of course, you're not the one I care about. But... I find it hard to be... calm... around dragon-like creatures."
Bahamut      Since Samus seems peaceful, Bahamut waves the guards away. They take pictures of Samus and her ship using the sphere, then head back to their post. "Did you say...Samus?" he asks, apparently finding the name familiar. He chuckles after that. "This is not the first time that I have been mistaken for one homicidal creature or another. Indeed, this draconic form has been as troublesome as it has been a blessing." he says, then offers a regal bow, one arm over his chest and the other extending out to his side. "I am Bahamut, Aeon of Bevelle and King of Spiran Dragons. It is an honor to meet you, Samus Aran."

"As for your status as a guardian, a Guardian is the traditional name given to any who slay fiends as a profession. If you are here to hunt fiends, then you will be a guardian in time. If you wish to be paid for it, there is already a bounty program in place. I can escort you to the registration office. There you can obtain a proper permit and a sphere to record your kills."
Samus Aran Samus Aran sighs as she awkwardly returns the bow. "I am Samus Aran... ummm.... The Hunter. The Legacy of the Chozo." She was trying to make a title for herself. "So... this was the _last_ thing I expected to meet coming here. Could you tell me more about this place? It is new to me. I'm... from somewhere far away and much different."
Bahamut      "Of course." Bahamut says in answer to Samus's question before motioning toward the walkway. "This way." He starts walking, each step causing a small rumble. "This is the city of Bevelle. Some call it the jewel of Spira. Whoever told you there is money to be made killing fiends here was correct. There is no shortage of that sort of work. Fiends seem to appear as fast as we slay them. If you witnessed my attack, it was actually on a water fiend that was getting too close to Bevelle."

As they walk, they pass many people, and quite a number of those people are curious about the power-armored person walking through town with their guardian spirit. Bahamut acknowledges as many of them as he can. "As for me," he continues, "...the short version is I am an avatar of the Fayth, or guardian spirit, who used to protect this land. The story of the summoners and the Fayth is quite intriguing, and I encourage you to research it when you have time. Many heroes gave their lives protecting summoners and citizens over the many eons since Sin first appeared. The fiends you may encounter soon enough are actually the angry spirits of the dead given form to seek vengeance on the living simply because they are alive."
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods. "I am quite adept at it," she states. "Been doing it for a while. This now-dead race gave me their last legacy - they enhanced me. Gave me this armor - I once joined the Federation Police. Had a bit of falling out and walked my own path. Now I slay monsters for profit. It is surprisingly lucrative."
Bahamut      It isn't far to the registration office. Really it is more of a booth, easily accessible to the people and already has a few well armed people around it. It is apparently a party of guardians who have just returned from a hunt themselves and are boisterously talking about the creatures they have slain. Several names can be heard, including Basalisk, Coerl, and Zu. And judging by the numbers appearing on their sphere as it rests in the bounty redemption device it could be very luctrative to hunt on Spira.

The booth operator asks them if they hunted in the Omega Ruins, and they all stare before laughing. "Are you crazy? No one hunts those ruins! The fiends there are way too strong! The danger is way more than even those bounties would pay!"

The party takes their sphere, then heads off toward what looks like a hotel. Bahamut chuckles lightly. "As you can see, business is booming." He then motions to the operator in the booth. "Introduce yourself." The young lady with long black hair and blue eyes wearing alabaster robes with arms the same color and pattern as Bahamut's wings smiles to Samus and Bahamut. "Hello Lord Bahamut! And hello to you, visitor! I am Mari. How can I help you today?" she says, seeming quite the chipper sort.
Samus Aran Samus Aran blinks. "What are those ball objects?" she finally asks. "A form of currency?" She looks around at the others. She then smiles as she looks over at Mari. "My name is Samus Aran. I am a professional bounty hunter, come to this land to hunt these 'fiends'." She looks down at the right arm (the one that ends with the arm cannon). "You'll forgive me for not offering a handshake."
Bahamut      "We call them spheres." Bahamut answers. "They are...I believe the closest analog to most worlds would be a camera. They are able to record video and take pictures, and also contain information. As such, they are used in this new age to catalogue fiend kills and keep track of currency."

Mari just smiles and waves dismissively at Samus's lack of handshake. "That's alright." She then starts typing on a desk sized sphere with a seemingly holographic monitor. "Samus...Aran.." she says softly to herself. "...applying for guardian status..." There is a flash directed at Samus like a picture being taken, then Mari smiles and hands Samus a sphere. "Alright! You're ready to go! Just make sure you keep this with you and it will make a note of each fiend you vanquish. You don't even have to have it out! Fiend bounties are based on strength and rarity, and sometimes special bounties are submitted for particularly troublesome fiends. So check back every now and then to get your Gil and to see about special bounties."
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods as she takes the sphere and touches it to her armor, and it attaches there unobstrusively. She nods slowly. "Well, off I go. I'll just get a lay of the land first..." She waves, never thought she'd meet a dragon that wasn't trying to kill her.
