Samus Aran A distance from her gunship, Samus Aran, the bounty hunter clad in full-body-covering power armor, stares at some ruins that are EXTREMELY out of place in the corner of the Calm Lands. A Chozo ruins complete with a statue of them. She kneels down to read the inscription. "Great Old Bird... how I miss you..." she whispers softly. (The text would probably be illegible to almost anyone else in the universe). She stands up, her visor turning white as she looks it over, trying to see anything of note with a scan.
Mairead Sandilands     Mairead Sandilands heard that there maybe an issue, and after getting coordinates, found a warp gate and used that to arrive. She is some distance away form Samus and looks around. As she studies the area, she looks and sees a full 360 degree view of the area and looks at the coordinates in her eyes and on the visor the map, "Hmm, a distance away..." she mentions as she thinsk and begins to rocket forward at 402 kmh. AS she flies, she lets the sensors of her IS feed her all of the info on this locations and picks up on the signal of Samus and angles for her.

After 15 minutes, she slows and comes ot a hover as she decends to the ground and lands near Samus. "Oyi," she says. "Me name is Mairead, and I heard ye may have needed help? she comments. Mairead is wearing a suit of power armor that makes her stand about six foot six inches. The suit is primary lavender in color with violet, grey and black accents.
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods as she glances Mairead's way. "I am Samus Aran. And these ruins... are like those from back in my home galaxy before I was... unified." She turns to look at Mairead, the visor of her helmet still white. "Nice armor," she notes, her voice carefully computer-scrubbed to not sound feminine - as she takes great cares to keep any sort of identity secret. "Inside those ruins could be anything. I just wanted to be prepared before I enter."
Bahamut      As the two women move along the ground, a large shadow passes overhead. It comes back around, and the gunmetal blue dragon known as Bahamut lands nearby with a shake of the earth and a roar as he rises to his full height. He makes his way toward the pair, his footsteps quite audible to anyone or anything nearby. "I hope you two do not mind a bit more company." he says, bowing lightly to the pair.

He looks at the statue as well, then rumbles deeply. "I do not recall such a thing in Spira before. Is this a fragment from your world, Samus?" he asks as he peers into the ruins.
Mairead Sandilands     nodding, Mairead looks, "Aye," she says as she scans. "I have your back," she says as she keeps her weapons at the ready with a simple thought. "I can fly and scan for anythign that maybe in the ruins is yea want," she adds as she walks up and stops when something flies overhead and she does not look up. When the dragon lands she does not even turn, "Aye, more is welcomed. God knows what could be in the ruins or nearby.
Samus Aran Samus glances over at Bahamut. "Sure. Maybe we should get to know each other. Knowing a dragon that isn't a beast might help me make sense of my past - that it's not the species of that monster who ruined my childhood - just a really bad person who happens to be a dragon."

Suddenly there's a rumble from the ruins as something erupts from it. A Zu. A large bird. BUt this one is different. It's blue instead of the usual black and its breath is frosty. "How did that even GET in there?" she finally asks as she steps back, staring at the creature... then she suddenly had to jump backward as it fires a beam of ice from its mouth right where she was standing! She barely dodges it, shivering in response.
Bahamut      Bahamut growls a bit menacingly at the very idea of the dragon that has caused someone so much harm. "If we ever meet this dark dragon of yours, I will be happy to help you eliminate him once and for all." he says. He raises an eyeridge as Mairead doesn't even look his direction, but before he can comment that frost Zu brusts out of the ruins!

The big dragon leaps back with a growl, then there is a metallic 'shink!' as he bares his talons at it. "Perhaps it was trapped inside when the ruins appared. Or, perhaps it formed around the energy of something inside." he says.

It fires on Samus, and Bahamut roars before leaping forward. His wings carry him like a pouncing eagle onto the Zu. It is even bigger than he is, yet he strikes without hesitation or fear, driving all four sets of talons into the fiend. "I shall draw its attention! You two strike at its back!"
Mairead Sandilands     Looking up, Mairead stands there and raises her hand, "If ye want, I can handle stopping the creature," she comments as she take and holds her position. "I take it that creature is not normally able to do that?" she asks as he watches Bahamut attack the creature. Thinking and with a thought stops the creature in mid-flight, or what appears to be stopped.

A feature of Clota, Mairead's IS is the AIC or the Active Inertia Canceller. This effectively slows or reduces the speed of an object to the point that it looks like it is not moving when in fact theya re moving really, really slow. The draw back, is that Mairead must concentrate on holding the target and cannot take any actions.

"I can hold it still, so you cna take it on and stop it," she adds.
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods. "Certainly," she states, impressed with that skill. She yells, "Bahamut, give me a clean shot to the head!" She raises her arm-cannon. The aperture opens, and a missile fires out, blasting it in the head... but apparently the Zu is toughter than the average bird as it just roars... emitting a frigid shockwave that engulfs the bounty hunter! Encased in ice, she appears to be trapped. The bird is hurt - but it wasn't lethal. Meanwhile, inside the ice... somehow now through the translucent ice isn't seen the full suit of armor - instead, a sphere is in the middle of it. It's just as stuck as the humanoid Samus was.
Bahamut      Bahamut blinks in surprise as he is suddenly gripping a time-frozen bird. "...Stop magic?" he wonders aloud. When Samus calls out he makes sure to clear the way to the head. The missile explodes, rocking him as well as the bird. It isn't surprising that this bird isn't dropped in one attack, though. It is about the size of a mid-sized aircraft after all!

Bahamut isn't expecting an attack from the slowwed creature, and so is surprised once more as Samus is caught in an ice block. "Hold him!" he roars to Mairead before he makes a few motions and launches a Fira spell at Samus. Hopefully the mid level spell is able to melt the ice without harming Samus.
Mairead Sandilands     concentrating ont he creature to keep it from moving, Mairead is not able to look at Samus, but her suit gives her 360 degree of vision that allows her see and she is at a point that if she does anythign to help, the creature will be free to move. However, if she does nothing, Samus maybe hurt....

At this time, Mairead is going to stop concentrating on holding the creature and turn to Samus to free her when Bahamut says to hold the bird and she does just that. At the time, she sees the firespell fly towards Samus and sees what is about to occur and hops she is ok as well.

"I can hold the bird for a long time so that will not be a problem." she mentions as she thinks more on stopping the bird more, but is setup and open for an attack from anything and everything right now. This is the one draw back of the AIC.
Samus Aran Something starts humming from the iceblock that engulfed Samus. A muffled explosion is then heard which cracks the ice... then it's washed in fire as the ice is now gone, and what falls out is... not a person. But a sphere which is spinning all around, the sphere glowing faintly from the heat. The sphere just unfolds back into the form of Samus. "Ballistcs aren't working..." she notes softly. "Thanks for the assist... a bit hot there." She sighs as she aims at the neck of the creature, and the aperture of the cannon narrows again - a bright sphere of yellow energy forms, as she fires a powerful charged energy blast at the bird. "I'd say like shooting fish in a barrel, but... it's still resisting..." She watches the blast hit the bird's neck and it groans, but is still held there - it doesn't counter this time.
Bahamut      Bahamut chuckles. "Forgive me. I hope I did not singe your armor." he says to Samus, then looks over at Mairead. "Quite an impressive power. Zu are among the most powerful of Fiends. To hold it for any amount of time is an admirable feat."

Even after Samus hits the Zu and it fails to strike back, Bahamut doesn't hold back on it. He gestures again, and this time an explosion of pure energy engulfs the head of the held fiend. "Do not let up until it is destroyed." he says a bit grimly.
Mairead Sandilands     Nodding, Mairead looks with her eyes at Samus and sees the explosion, "good to see ye are ok," she mentions as she thinks and focus on the birds neck and her hand closes as she begins to apply pressure to the bird to choke it. "It is unique to only two IS, my own and Schwarzer Regen," she adds as she hopes this will cause the creature to be knocked out due to lack of blood to the brainand the inability to get air into its lungs.
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods slowly. "Go for the neck... it's weakening." She changes from charged shots to more normal attacks, blasting a rapid-fire barrage on a single spot, right where the scorch mark was from the charge-attack. She then narrows it down to a cutting beam... and one final blast pierces the neck of the monster. With a choked scream, the monster collapses in midair, held by the AIC... instead of blood coming out of the hole, a few pyreflies (multicolor wisp-like things) escape from it... then the entire beast just explodes into hundreds of pyreflies... and from its belly falls a technology module. She just slumps. "So... fiends just... apparate? They're not... animals?" she asks, sinking to her knees, barely noticing the module at first (that had a few letters on it in that same mystery script that's on the statue outside the now-ruined ruins).
Mairead Sandilands     As the creature explodes, Mairead stops concentrating and the creature remains drop. AS she looks at Samus, she thinks and the armor disappears and the suit is the onlything she is wearing. "Are ye ok?" she asks as she walks over and kneels than helps her up. MAiread is now five foot six inches when not in her IS that just disappeared into thin air.
Bahamut      Bahamut looks over as Samus sinks to her knees, then rumbles deeply. "As I said, they are the angry souls of the departed given form." he says as he watches the pyreflies. They are quite beautiful, despite the deadly creatures they form. "Without summoners, we no longer have a means of sending them to the Farplane. I fear the world may one day be overrun. That is why guardians are so important, now as much as ever. Culling the fiends is the only way to keep their numbers manageable."

Bahamut turns to Samus as Mairead helps her up, and he holds out a large clawed hand as well. "They are animals in many senses of the word, but there is intelligence behind the actions of many fiends." He then points toward the module. "Is that part of your Chozo ruins?" he asks.
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods. "Yes.... but... they aren't natural. They are formed from the swirly lights." She then notices the module as she picks it up. She smiles faintly. "This explains a lot. This is the Ice Beam module. Apparently that monster absorbed it and gained its powers. It's happened a few times already to me." She then puts the module on her arm-cannon as module and cannon shimmer - as the module disappears, the yellow highlights of the arm-cannon change to blue. "Ah - I never thought I'd find more of these wonderful things out here. The Chozo loved leaving seeds of their technology all over my galaxy - looks like some of it ended up here." She sighs as she gazes over the Calm Lands. Without a thought, her helmet vanishes. A blonde woman's head with a ponytail is visible, and a pair of glasses materializes on her face. "I never took time to smell the air," she states. And now, without the helmet's masking, her true voice is audible... and.... Samus appears to be a girl.
Mairead Sandilands     Nodding, "I see," she states as she watches. "So those modules are unique like with different features and can be used by people or anyone to gain abilities. That dangerous if someone gets one that shouldn't," she mentions as she looks at Samus without the helmet, "I think I see why ye wear a helme that hide who ye are," she mentions. "Allows you to live your life without what you do being known." she adds.
Bahamut      "Whether they are natural or not is up for debate." Bahamut replies to Samus. "They form whenever a spirit is not Sent properly, and there are many restless souls left after the work of Yu Yevon and Sin. In many ways they are as natural as any other creature on Spira. But, much like myself, they would not exist if things were as they should be."

Bahamut somehow doesn't seem surprised that Samus is a girl. "The air is usually quite pleasant and fresh." he says, taking a deep breath himself through his nose. "So, your armor can integrate new technology quite easily it seems. I am a fairly skilled engineer, so if you ever want any help with new technology or fixing your current technology I should be able to help."

Bahamut stretches his wings and rumbles pleasantly. "A good hunt, I would say.
Samus Aran Samus Aran nods. "Well... you can? That would be... interesting. Yes, it can integrate technology from a variety of sources. My Scan Visor is from the Federation for example." She sees a small fiend coming her way and fires a frigid beam at it and it freezes solid. "And... perhaps we could chat for a while, Bahamut, if you don't mind. I thank you for your help, Ms. Sandilands. I'll compensate you for your efforts when I turn in my bounty sphere."
Mairead Sandilands     Blinking, Mairead looks, "It is of no worry or concern, I am always willing to help and require nothing in way of payment," she says. "I only provided assistance as the creature, this what was it called, was hard and if could have gone bad if there was no assistance. I was happy to assist and glad no one was hurt by it," she adds as she nods to the two.

"If ye need a place to rest, the IS Academy has some rooms that can be used if you want a break. I will send ye the coordinates," and she moves her hands and a arc appears with a keyboard and she types as he sees the commends in her eyes before it disappears. "I sent it to the both of ye," she mentions to them.
Bahamut      "It was called a Zu specifically. In general they are called Fiends." Bahamut says to Mairead. "And thank you for your assistance. That time-stopping device of yours was as potent as a strong Stop spell. It must be quite useful in any endeavor." he says.

He looks to Samus when she speaks up and nods lightly. "Of course. What is it you wish to discuss?" he asks the blonde bounty hunter. "And if you do need a place to rest, there are many hotels in Bevelle. Not to mention the Temple of Bahamut. My priestesses are always happy to have a visitor, and the quarters are most luxurious."
Mairead Sandilands     Nodding, Mairead looks, "It is an Active Inertia Canceller. I can slow down anyone with a thought and makes them appear to be stopped or held. The only issue, is that when I use it, I cannot do anything else, as I have to concentrate on the target. It is a last line of defense to protect people in various situations," she mentions. "As long as I concentrate I can hold it for as long as I am awake. However, as soon as I let go and stop concentrating, the target is moving as if nothing happened. They are aware they are held and can talk if able to talk, but not move. I can also focus it on any part of the body to restrict." she adds as she speak to the two.
Samus Aran Samus Aran onds. "That is a very interesting technology. One I have never heard of. Perhaps we can talk shop sometime. But... I should go explore this city more. I kinda feel bad about pointing my cannon at Bahamut when I first saw him and want to make amends." She smiles faintly as she turns to go off with Bahamut, her helmet rematerializing.
Mairead Sandilands     Nodding, "I m'self need to return to the Academy for classes in the morning. Both of ye have a safe and have a good evening," she states as she thinks and the IS reappears and she takes flight for the Warp Gate and hits the max speed of her IS, 442.57 KPH in a matter of seconds.

As Mairead flies off, she thinks at what she saw and wonders what other wonders will require her assistance in the near and distant future. Plus, she will have to talk to the two of them sometime and maybe explore this world as well.
