Lemeza Kosugi     Bad news: Lemeza had just taken a pounding to the face from an admittedly good-looking berserker. Good news: turns out the Shrine patched him up even better than when he'd come in! Unexpected bonus. Which means he gets to go another round! But with someone else. He's waiting for a certain Alexis, who said she'd be using "trained monsters" to fight with. Huh. Once she arrives, he'll suggest she set the stage to her liking; he's got to see what she comes up with.
Alexis The arrival of said Trainer is heralded by a sharp whistle as she walks in and gets a look around. "This is impressive. Guess they take training seriously around here." But it's nice that they have an open invite to everyone and she doesn't have to go through too many hoops to get admittance. After she's wandered in a bit she pauses to roll her left shoulder, gotta keep that throwing arm limber and ready, and swat her ponytail back behind her. "Okay, so who's the fellow willing to have a bit of a throwdown?"
Lemeza Kosugi     "That would be me." An older but still middle-aged man with a fedora and cargo jacket waves to Alexis. "Name's Lemeza Kosugi, professional archaeologist and explorer of ancient and dangerous ruins. Although now I guess I'm helping out the Concord when they need it. And yeah. The guys here know their stuff." Lemeza gestures to a nearby control panel. "You can set up a fighting arena to your liking, anywhere from flat boring ground to shifting glaciers to oceans of lava. Try it out!" He takes some time to stretch and work out the soreness from his previous bout.
Touta Konoe      Touta ends up arriving to the Shrine just in time apparently! The young man appears with his usual spikey black-hair and mostly black attire. Black pants, black jacket actually there's a bit of an embroidered red rose on there now. That was new. Also he had this fancy yellow and black bracelet on his wrist. He's even got a black katana with him. He's not expecting to fight but hey, you never know.

When he arrives, he notices that they were already getting set up. So instead of bursting in to greet them he'll wait till after they finish up. For now he'll start heading to the spectator stands to make sure he gets a good view of the match.

"I think those two are the ones from the radio but uh...I don't think I've ever seen them before..." Was he even talking to anyone right now???
Yang Xiao Long     "Yeah, the guy's name's Lemeza. Pretty spry guy, kept me on my toes." replies Yang, as she flumps down beside Touta, offering him a non-descript soda Looks like cola. "Drink? I got two from the machine." she says. "How'ya keepin?"
Alexis     "Cool. Bit of an explorer myself. But not so much the archae-thing... Not that I haven't had to poke a few ruins on occasion. Name's Alexis." She strolls over to the control panel, and after giving it a once over taps a few commands. She's sort of fiddling with what it can do, and the end result is a fairly hot and rocky environment. Feels like there could be a volcano nearby but there's not any actual lava in the recreation. No need to tilt things in what could be her favor.
"Though of course, I'm not the one you're going to be fighting." Alexis plucks one of the red and white spheres off her belt, spinning it briefly on a fingertip before grabbing and throwing into the arena. "Take the field, Scorch!" The Pokeball splits open in a flash of light that cascades on the ground briefly before forming up and solidifying into a blue-greyish colored badger-like creature with beige underside and narrow red eyes. "Tyyphlosion." He kicks a back leg to knock the pokeball back to Alexis, then turns to regard Lemeza. "And don't worry about 'going easy' on an animal. Pokemon are trained for this sort of fighting." Pause. "Well, normally other Pokemon. But the Multiverse being what it is...." Alexis shrugs a little.
But she's a good sport and letting him actually get a look at what he's up against before letting the sparks fly.
Lemeza Kosugi     Lemeza can hardly believe his eyes. Did Alexis say Pokemon? As in, that kids' franchise with all the cute critters that fight and... oh of course that's a real thing now. "Yes. The Multiverse being what it is...." He doesn't elaborate, instead taking stock of just /what/ he is going to be fighting. "Y-yeah... man, never thought anything more could surprise me, but you've done it." Blink. Blink blink. Then he steps into the arena and prepares himself. "Alright... I guess I don't need a Pokemon of my own for this, then?"
Touta Konoe      Touta's attention turns to the familiar voice. The 'hot' blonde that he had a blast with the last time he came to the shrine. Both literally and metaphorically. He takes the soda and jokingly cheers Yang.

"Lemeza, I think I've heard that name on the comms every now and again. Still if he was keeping up with you then this should be good. Also I've been alright. Been working alot since the beginning of the New Year so thought I'd come take a break. You know anything about the other gi-"

At that moment he stops as he looks down at the arena. He has no idea what just happened but he's pretty sure that he just saw Mort come out of that ball. He stares for a moment not sure what he just saw...

     "Wait...That isn't Mort...I think."
Yang Xiao Long     "Nah, Gramps would have made a comment about how those things always mess with his back." remarks Yang off-handedly, digging Touta in the side. "Busy in the new year, doin' what?" she asks conversantly, leaning back in her seat and sipping her drink.
Touta Konoe      Touta smirks at her 'gramps' remarks, giving her a dig back before taking a sip of his drink. "Oh right, I don't think I ever told ya about my job. Well I work at this place called Fairyland Hall. It's sorta a hotsprings inn slash island resort sorta thing near the coast of the mainland on my world. We were getting really busy cause of people traveling for Christmas and the New Years so I had to stay back and help take care of guests and stuff like that."
Alexis     Alexis chuckles and shakes her head. "Nah. We've been fighting more than other monsters for quite some time. It'll be a good workout though." She settles back into her typical at-ready stance and throws out one hand into a point. "Let's do this. Scorch, Quick Attack!"
"Typh!" Despite the somewhat bulky badger build Typhlosion is surprisingly nimble, bolting across the field in a burst of speed to just try and tackle Lemeza now that it's been made clear that yes he's sparring with the other human and not some other monster like himself.
Lemeza Kosugi     Lemeza grins. This really /is/ like a Pokemon battle! He'd spent time with his daughter just listening to her talk about all the different mons and such. Hell if he can remember this particular one - Typhlosion, was it? - but he was kind of familiar with the concept, at least. While he's contemplating all this, Typhlosion does its Quick Attack, prompting Lemeza to raise an arm to block the strike. It's a good block, letting him deflect most of the damage while the tackle merely sends him back-sliding just enough to give him spacing. Time for a counterattack.

"Lemeza, Fury Swipes!" In a completely unnecessary declaration of his attack, the professor takes out a set of razor-sharp claws and starts swiping, er, furiously at the fire badger's frontside, zealously trying to open some wounds. Maybe /too/ zealously. It's only the first attack!
Alexis     Alexis ... slaps a palm to her face as Lemeza mimics the 'attack call out' for himself. Though she can be heard snickering a little behind her hand.

As the professor pulls out his own claws and comes back swinging Scorch rears up on his back legs and crosses his forlimbs defensively in front of his head and chest. It doesn't work as well as it would against normal claws or such and several sharp cuts are left on the badger's arms. But as the man slices and slashes from his defensive stance the flames around his neck and shoulders start to burn even more brightly, crackling and reaching to the point that the air around him has that hazy effect like the middle of a super hot summer day. To the point that Scorch doesn't have to directly respond to the attack to shrike back, the intensity of the heat radiating off his form is enough to start burning into his opponent if he stays close for too long!
Lemeza Kosugi     Man, if only the Ice Cape worked against fire as well as lava. It keeps Lemeza from immediately overheating and keeling over, but he's rather burned regardless. He's staying close, though, as his claws seem to be doing quite a bit of damage. Though Alexis' reaction worries him a bit. "...what? Did I do something wrong?"

He keeps hacking away at Typhlosion's body, looking to deepen the cuts he's already inflicted. Out of a sudden sense of self-consciousness, though, he doesn't call out his attack again; he simply gets to work. And he's not slowing down anytime soon.
Alexis     Alexis shakes her head, smirking faintly. "No, just silly." But then puts her game face back on. "That's enough of a warm up, Scorch. Show 'em what you can really do!"

Knowing of those games may give Lemeza some frame of reference, but he's quickly going to find out that things aren't so limited to concepts like 'turns' when it comes to fighting the real deal. That heat haze is getting to the point that the Typhlosion is getting hard to look at directly without hurting the eyes. Which only worsens when he uses Double Team and everything seems to blur around him. Enough that when Lemeza comes in for another round of slashes all he finds his claws cutting is through afterimages.

The real Pokemon is rolling to the side of him, having spun into a ball of sorts as part of the evasive move. Then "Flame Wheel!" comes from Alexis and Scorch makes a drifting maneuver to turn and launch back towards Lemeza with one of his trademark attacks, the spinning motion causing the flames from his neck mane to flow around his entire body in a bright blazing corona.
Lemeza Kosugi     "Wha--what the..." Instead of the expected claws-on-flesh he had expected, Lemeza finds nothing but air. Huh... this could be problematic. Of course, if Typhlosion can dodge effectively, it can probably also turn around and attack just as nimbly. With that, he starts for the nearest rocky structure to gain some altitude, scaling quickly up a cliffside -- aided rather forcefully by the Typhlosion itsel, who crashes into him with a direct hit. Ow. Lemeza gains his height at least.

Seems like his pistol really is Ol' Reliable. Now that he's got some distance, he blinks his eyes quickly to try to see properly in the changing light, then carefully aims several angled shots at strategically-placed rock faces, intending to use the ricochet to intersect every possible place this dodgy badger could be.

Oh, and he's not calling out attacks anymore. Either he's too self-conscious or he's entered serious mode. Likely both.
Alexis     Probably both. The same reason Alexis only shouts commands when appropriate and necessary. Otherwise they can tip off a foe a little too easily.

It's a hefty impact, Scorch unfurling afterwards and skidding back on his hindlegs to brake himself. The flames around his neck flicker a bit as they recoup from enflaming the attack while he looks up to watch his foe. Figures an archeologist would be good at climbing doesn't it? "He's up to somethin--Look out!," Alexis muses. Sure enough Scorch starts to run towards the outcropping, only to jerk back with a yelp as one of the shots comes from an unexpected angle. "Phlosion! <Easy for you to say!>" he barks back at her, for the first time actually saying something that translates and isn't just animalistic growls and such. He hunches back down on all fours, zigzagging a bit to try and deal with the strange vectors but it's not entirely successful in avoiding a few more dings.

Alexis grimaces a little, considering. "You're going to have to smoke him out." Scorch nods with a grunt, narrowing his eyes at the perch Lemeza has taken. He opens his mouth, but instead of fire at first its a plume of ash and smoke that bellows out of the fire badger's maw, living up to a different aspect of being called the Volcano pokemon by sending a thick cloud towards the outcropping to disrupt Lemeza's view farther.
Then he spits into the cloud a few times, sending a few sparks of Ember hurtling out the other side to keep the pressure up. Make it harder to see and to stay in one spot so the guy can't set up another advantage point like that so easily.
Lemeza Kosugi     Despite all the heavy smoke and fire obscuring his vision and maneuvering room, Lemeza's able to focus, leaping from one rock face to another to get a better angle and avoid the field hazards as best as he can. He contorts his body in mid-air to avoid the embers flying at him, successfully avoiding getting hit as he latches on to his new vantage point.

"So it's a battle of mobility, eh? I'll have you know that's my specialty." His mobility extends to his bullets, as he once again starts firing at specific angles to bounce his shots /just so/, creating a web of trajectories that'll prove hard to evade. And yet, he's forced to rely somewhat on memorizing the terrain... which may give the agile Typhlosion the opening it needs to slip through.
Alexis     The smokescreen worked to a degree, but the actual attack not so much. Lezema is still trying to hold his defensive position and putting out a hell of a lot of suppressive fire to stay there.

Alexis waggles a finger. "Don't start bragging just yet." Then to her partner. "Go get in his face if you have to." "<Mmhmm>" Scorch drops on all fours and runs towards the now smoke surrounded outcropping even as Lemeza resumes firing. The strange angles and ricochettes make it practically impossible to dodge so instead he powers through and keeps to zigzagging instead of going in a straight and predictable line. This time he does manage to avoid any direct hits somehow, but as the shots hit the rocks and ground around him he's still pelted with the shrapnel of shattering stone. Lemeza has made it apparent that he doesn't need to see him clearly to shoot at him effectively.

But the smoke and heat still might make the Typhlosion hard to keep track of. He gets to the outcropping, and with a combination of agility and using claws for traction jumps onto the rock cropping and then jumps off of it again to propel himself upward.

Abruptly the Typhlosion bursts out of the smoke clouds, and roars as he lets loose with a massive blast of flames, aiming to just cover the entire rock formation in fire with Inferno instead of aiming more specifically at his foe.
Lemeza Kosugi     The smokescreen still lingers. The fire still roars. And the view still refuses to get better. Much as dodging things is his specialty, Lemeza's finding it hard to keep ahead of all the attacks.

And to make matters worse, Alexis has commanded her pet to /get in his face/. Which means the /cliff/ face is likely about to become unviable. He looks around for another spot to cling on to, seeing only smoke.... when an obvious and simple solution occurs to him. He lets go. He releases his grip on the rocky outcrop, and simply drops down, taking the time to wave as he passes by Typhlosion. All of that bum-rushing, all of those flames spewed at where Lemeza used to be, gone to waste as he escapes unscathed.

Curtain fire has done well so far, but Lemeza's feeling a bit cheeky right now. Before he falls too far from Scorch, he breaks out his whip and cracks it at the beast's behind. "VINE WHIP!" He calls out his attack again, grinning far too much at his little antics.

It should be noted that his whip is made of leather and not vines.
Alexis     Not -entirely- a waste. Sure it would of been better if he had actually gotten scorched by Scorch, but the pressure did get Lezema to finally leave his advantage point and that still counts for something. Scorch is unbothered by the flames himself and grabs onto the now burning rocky surface to keep from crashing back down.

Or that was the idea, until the whip lashes across his backside as Lemeza falls past. Of course he has a whip. "Typhlosion! <Oh that's it!>" Scorch doesn't just let go of the rock, he pushes himself off the ledge to follow the adventurer. By flipping as he does so and unleashing just enough flare from his fire mane to work like maneuvering boosters and propel himself faster, hopefully enough to slam into the man before he gets too far away.
Lemeza Kosugi     Gaining more distance might not be the best idea. While Lemeza has to stay busy trying to negotiate the smoke, Scorch seems to be suffering no such penalty. Perhaps it'd be best to shift back into closer range for now - the badger's too big to move stealthily, and its movements keep clearing away just enough smoke for the professor to see clearly through.

Back to the claws. Lemeza falls back on the tactic he'd used in the beginning, though this time he's doing something just a wee bit crazy: he's staying damn close to Scorch, close enough to catch the brunt of its bodyslam. Lemeza just straight up takes the hit, and uses the opportunity to trade blow for blow with his claws. He goes to dig in, and he's aiming to dig in /deep/.
Alexis     That did not go as planned. The intent had been to hit hard enough to knock his opponent away and into the ground. But instead those claws come back out and dig in HARD. Hard enough to get the badger, despite their oft generalized 'don't give a ****' attitude, to roar in pain. Both from the attack and from, being the larger of the two, taking more of the brunt of the impact of finally hitting the ground of the arena. The jarring landing is enough to knock the two of them apart, the firebeast rolling off to the side from the nasty attack.

That combo probably would of been enough to take out a lot of Pokemon. Scorch is a bit more tough and tenacious than that though, being one of Alexis' longest and most experienced partners. Not that the toll of battle isn't evident in how he's a bit more sluggish getting to his feet, smoke rolling from the corners of his mouth as he pants a few times, then snarls.

Now normally would be the time for Blast Burn, but with the way the fight has gone Alexis realizes they can't risk the recoup time if it doesn't work. Fortunately, there are other options, especially since this is also where Blaze kicks in. "One way or another, it's time to end this." Alexis clenches a fist as she strikes a pose, thrusting it out even though she's not the one doing the fighting. Trainers just do that sort of thing. "Scorch... BURN UP!"

"Tyyyyy." The flames of his collar mane roar in a sudden surge of intensity as he clenches his paws into fists and hunkers down, but then the fire mane goes out as all that elemental energy is charged into the attack and "PHLOSION!" expelled out in a humungous blast of inciderary power. It's literally burning up the last of his reserves to the point that he even temporarily loses his Fire type afterwards, which is how the attack got it's name in the first place.
Lemeza Kosugi     Oh that's not good. The fire badger didn't quite collapse from that attack, and it's still got enough energy to keep fighting back! And, hoo boy. It's really driving home the "fire" part. With a whole LOT of fire. Judging by the looks of things, too, it's threatening to engulf the entire arena! Lemeza needs a plan, and FAST!

Outrunning the blast is out of the question. The professor-turned-fighter frantically looks around for something to hide behind, anything, that can stop the impending blast. There's rocks sticking up out of the ground, but none of them are big enough to... oh there's no time! Lem picks the biggest-looking rock he can jump to, ducks behind it, and braces for the worst. There is no way in hell this could possibly work.

FWOOOOOOOM. Typhlosion typhlodes, and jets of flame do indeed engulf the arena. They smack against the rock Lemeza is hiding behind, and rocket past -- and as they pass, they damage only the terrain. Once the flames peter out, Lemeza just sits there for a few moments before registering the thing that just transpired. That should not have been possible to dodge, but he did it. That means he wins the fight!--

Oh yeah. Gotta actually attack again. He pops out from behind the world's strongest rock and takes a shot at the not-currently-fiery beast to end it. Probably.
Alexis     Sometimes the impossible happens.

A giant rock is actually a good choice for a defense, as improbable as it's success may be. Since the fire attack was a blastwave in instead of a stream, it flowed around it. Melting the stone down would of required constant application directly to it, which the attack didn't do compared to others.

While not as debilitating as his other super-attack is after using, it's visible by the way he's panting that between the expenditure of energy and strain of battle that Scorch hasn't got much left in the tank. He tries to move, but without the fire to stoke exaustion makes him too sluggish to avoid taking the shot to the non-burning shoulder, and he drops over like a spent piece of firewood. "Tyyy. < Owie >"

Then a flicker of red energy engulfs him and the pokemon is zapped back into his ball. "You tried hard old buddy, that's what counts." Of course he'll be fine and dandy once the simulation kicks over and ends, but this is just habit. "That's the good kind of fight that put us through our paces though."
Lemeza Kosugi     "No kidding. I had to push my dodging skills to the limit there." Lemeza pats his newfound hiding rock as he stands up, visibly trembling and shaking as he does so. "You had me convinced I was gonna get fried with that last one." Despite the shakes, he's at least steady on his feet. "Is Scorch gonna be fine in there? I mean, the Shrine is really good at patching up fighters, but will that ball--actually, HOW does he fit in there?! I actually have to think about this now..." Lemeza stares in disbelief at the Pokeball Alexis used to recall Typhlosion, finding himself wondering how the thing actually works.
Alexis "He'll reset with everything else. This is just... tradition. Habit. Take your pick." Alexis shrugs, clipping the ball back on her belt with the others. Then makes a face. "Don't even ask me to explain how Pokeballs work, I ain't not scientist! It's all quantum metaphysics stuff and junk." Best explaination she's going to give.
